Since Covid, I've limited myself to running outdoors and doing stairs during breaks at work. Unfortunately my individual efforts are simply not enough. I know I need to vary my workout and shed additional pounds but most off all, I need the motivation to make it a regular habit. I started to research a few gyms with Shred415 being one of them. They're a circuit training gym offering group classes and caters to all skill levels. On my recent visit, Jordan was my instructor. She was awesome. She was lively, showed us proper form when switching to floor exercises and kept us motivated the entire time. Their parking lot is ample and I didn't have trouble finding a space. I'm hoping to make a decision in a month and glad I got the chance to try this place out. read more

I've been shredding regularly since yelping about my first shred back in July so figured it's time for an update... Overall, I love it! I know when I go here I'm guaranteed a workout that will absolutely kick my butt (in a good way). I personally hate running, but don't mind the interval running at shred. I love that by the time the hour is up I've run at least 3 miles (and probably way more for those that don't run at the pace of a turtle) and gotten a full body workout with weights. Of course some instructors are better than others... Jeremy teaches on Wed mornings and his classes are worth 10 stars. He's challenging, motivating, fun and has complete control over the class. He also is the only instructor I've seen that takes the time to correct bad form (I'm usually guilty). I'd worry I wouldn't be able to get into his classes by posting this, but I already have to sign up 3 months ahead of time for it so how much worse could it get. I'm also always guaranteed a good workout if I sign up for a class with Ashley, Lauren or Jordan (the owner). I've yet to have a bad instructor, but if you stick with the 4 I've mentioned you'll have an amazing & challenging hour at Shred. As I predicted back in July the morning classes are absolutely packed (afternoon is not as much of an issue). There's been at least 3 times when I arrive right on time for Jeremy's 9:45am Wednesday class and they've already given my spot away. Each time I've negotiated myself back into the class, but I do think they should wait at least 5 minutes (or perhaps even 10!) before giving away a spot. It's a miracle I even make it to class on time most days between work and taking care of 2 little ones...and don't like worrying that I'm not going to get into a class that I paid for AND signed up 3 months ago. read more

I love the variety between the floor and treadmill. They have the treadmill compared to all other facilities. I also attend orange theory 2x/week and i prefer the treadmill at shred. More cushion so better on the joints. Each instructor has a slightly different routine- I like using different instructors depending on my mood. What I most appreciate is the flexibility in scheduling and cancelling. Because it is not part of a large corporate s it it- they have more understanding w late cancels if one is sick or emergencies come up. Orange theory Does Not. I also like they shower facility and having towels for the workout available I am signed up for unlimited classes- even though I still attend orange theory 8x/ month. Amazing class, First class and just scheduled more. My first class was with Jessica she introduced herself and explained the class set up 15/10/5 intervals in addition to the 3 minute warmup and cool down. Jessica had me running at a 6/6 incline for class one. It's so nice to have supportive ladies around me. I loved the body workout the first time around was hard to keep up because everyone was doing so well but I will get it! I loved the padded thread mill the run was so easy. Very well trained instructors giving a great total body workout. The studio is always full and the staff knows you by name and creates a friendly atmosphere. Time to drink the Kool-Aid! I won't lie - I have no running ability at all. I am so meh at cardio that I don't want to pay to have that thrown in my face, ya know? Anyways, Shred is perfect for me, since the lights are so dark no one can tell I'm running a full mile or two per hour behind the rest of the class, or that I've cramped up during the second treadmill interval and maxed out at 5.5 miles per hour. Derp. Or...when I got a few classes under my belt and started keeping up with the rest of the class. Victory! Anyways, the format is simple - four 15 minute intervals, alternating between the treadmill and a stepper/workout bench that has a bunch of weights stashed under it. Anyways, the majority of people like to start on the treadmill, so if you're not early you might have to settle on the deck first, especially in a full class (not a bad thing on leg day - it's a chance to activate those glutes before getting your run on!). On the treadmill you'll be clearly led through some intense intervals - srsly, I'm never lost and I'm easily able to follow the incline and speed changes. On the weights it's nothing too fancy - just solid rows, push-ups, squats, etc. Basically, the tried and true stuff that'll kick your ass and give you results. The best is all the weights are right there under the bench, so no need to stress about grabbing the right weights for your workout before class and having them run out of what you need. So ya, drink the Kool-Aid and enjoy! read more

If you want an amazing workout and transform your body, this is the place to go. Not recommended for those just starting to work out though. The instructors are incredible at pumping you up and getting you to reach those goals you never thought you could reach. Awesome music you workout to and the hour goes by fast but you accomplish so much! I feel a complete difference in how I feel and how strong I have become after starting here. So thrilled that Shred decided to open a location on the north shore. They did a great job of getting the word out by posting updates on Facebook, etc. so much so that am classes were full the first week they opened. I love a brand, spanking new gym and Shred 415 does not disappoint. They have a bright & open check in area and retail clothing section. Spacious, clean and well stocked locker room with showers and of the essentials - soap, shampoo, hair dryers, etc. You won't need to pack a stocked gym bag full of supplies. The treadmills and actual gym space seem well maintained so far and cleaned between classes. Onto the actual workout - some instructors and super-star stellar and will kick your butt so much that you will be in pain (the good kind) for days on end. Others are not as strong but if you've been coming enough you can take the workout to your own personal level. Don is amazing at taking the time to correct form and he will walk around and correct you. Some have amazing energy and really know how to get you motivated. As others have pointed out - it is tough for some instructors to get the timing down and give instructions to two groups in the class. Even though I feel some instructors are better than others I haven't had a bad workout here and I've been trying to get in 2-3x a week. You will not get bored with this workout as the format changes and times flies when you are actually in it. I can't give 5 stars as actual scheduling can be a pain as people seem to book out months in advance and cancel as need be. I like a one week booking window..I think the 12 hour cancellation policy is generous and really appreciate that they have a scheduling app for your iPhone/ipad. I haven't used the child care but bonus points for having it available. I can already see a difference in my running pace and endurance. I typically hate hills but am growing to appreciate them. Again, so happy Shred is here on the north shore!~ read more

I live in downtown Chicago and work in the North burbs and love to get a workout in at Shred on my commute home while I wait out the traffic. I've been to all three and considering this is the newest location, it's no surprise it's the nicest with the cleanest gym bathrooms I've ever seen and meticulously organized equipment in the studio. You all probably know about the workout by now, 4 (sometimes 6) sets rotating between treads and strength training. The one thing I can add is that, after going to Shred 3-4 times a week for the last 3 months, I am still not bored with it. And it is still the hardest workout I've ever experienced! Down nearly 15lbs, I find myself sticking with the faster "runner" speeds for most of the tread workout and have doubled the dumbbell weight I use. If you go, commit, and if you commit, you'll see changes faster than you ever have before! If I had to find one complaint, it's that this location is not set up for TRX. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset at that...I despise any part of a TRX workout and curse to myself under my breath when I see that it's going to be a part of the workout (I'm looking at you Old Town!). But, I can't deny the level of intensity it brings to any routine. I'd also recommend a more playlists to choose from, but I'm just being nit-picky at this point. So, what are you waiting for? Get off your butt and get over to Shred! read more

I've been going to Shred for a few years now and its a great workout, no doubt, but there are some issues that do bother me. 1) Why is it so loud?! Yes, I know the music needs to be turned up/motivating but there is no reason it needs to be eardrum bursting. I do many classes at different studios that utilize a similar system and none are anywhere near as loud as Shred. Please turn down the volume just a tad so we all don't go deaf. 2) Studio is always so hot to the point where im worried people will end up passing out or will get sick. This is true in the dead of winter or crazy heat of summer. Trainers seem to rarely remember to turn fans on and even when they do they dont help much. They just blow stale hot air around. Please invest in A/C or something to cool the tiny studio down. 3) Over the years I've noticed a decline in the cleanliness. Trainers don't remind clients to clean (w/wipes) on their stations, mirrors, treadmills, and deck areas are covered in sweat (gross). Fans are covered in dust. Bathrooms need some care/attention. 4) Please asks clients to keep their clothes and shoes on during workouts (this is actually a rule at other studios that they make clients sign off on). I've been in classes where people take their shoes and socks off or sometimes most of their clothing. Its so unhygienic and i was shocked no one ever said anything to these people. read more

I have been to Shred classes for a few months now about once a week and I am loving it! It is seriously one of the best workouts I have had. Each one, whether it is Total Body, Legs&Butt, etc. leaves you feeling that great second day soreness every time. All of the classes give you easy, medium, and hard options so that no matter what fitness level you're on, you can have a good workout. In addition, I love that the north suburb location has extra bobby pins and hair ties available in the restrooms. Forgetting bobby pins to work out was the story of my life -no more, thanks to Shred! read more

I took a full body 1 hour workout class at Shred 415 and every single square centimeter of my body felt like it was on fire! You start the class either on a treadmill or on the floor with weights and a bench. For 15 minutes the instructor leads the groups in either speed intervals on the treadmills and various strength training exercises. Each of these segments are anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes. After the 15 minutes is up, you switch the treadmill to the floor, or floor to treadmill. And then rinse, repeat, until the hour is done. It is pretty remarkable how the instructor can keep all of the exercises straight as well as the treadmill intervals every 1 to 2 minutes. The classes are $24 each, but if you go to a later class, like the 5:15 class, it is only $18/class. I am guessing there is less volume at those times and the early classes are booked. I am definitely coming back for a tough workout in the future! read more

I have always loved working out at Shred, so it was hard when we all had to start self-quarantining. However, to be able to continue shredding from home has been AMAZING with the fantastic at-home workouts Shred has been providing all of us! Shred's care for their clients is always outstanding, and their workouts are what are helping me stay sane through these hard times. My latest experience here was fantastic and deserves a new rating. This fitness instruction is not for the beginner but I'm now a believer that it can change your body. The owner was incredibly friendly and went out of her way to assist me and honor the previous deal. i attended a class later in the day where there were only 4 people in the class so the instructor was able to correct form but maybe such a small class isn't as motivating for some. I enjoyed it but my takeaway is that if you are new to shred, regardless of prior exercise experience, you should try to attend a class at off times ( afternoons/ evenings) to get the format and form down. The morning classes will still have those wait lists although I was informed that shred will be adding more classes so maybe that will help. The class was hard, but its self paced so I could have toned it down, but the instructor pushed me through an amazing workout that I wouldn't do on my own (and I am incredibly motivated). I also had a few moments to look through the clothing racks ( there is a small boutique up front of activewear) and they carry super trendy lines like split 59 and so low. I like to wear cute workout clothes all day so this is just a bonus- shopping and a workout! I have a feeling ill be a regular here and for those wondering if it will change your body, I'll update in a month or so and let you know, though I'm certain I already know the answer. read more

First, let's start on the positive - everyone is very nice at Shred and the equipment is good. The "trainer" started the class saying, "the music is really load so I'm going to scream over it!" There have been several comments about the volume and I'd have to say it's the loudest workout facility on the planet. But my opinion aside, look on the wall and you'll find EAR PLUGS for the members. Have you ever been to a gym that provides ear plugs? Please see photo. I felt like I was at a rave. I predict that long time members will have significant hearing issues and that Shred will find itself in a class action lawsuit. The trainers were very nice but they are not really training anyone, rather they are acting as conductors telling the large group what to do next. There is not any instruction on technique and there is no personal connection. Again, these are nice people but the vibe is hyper stimulating in a bad way. read more

I just took my first Shred class. There was a lot to like. Everyone was super encouraging and it's an amazing workout. If you do Shred and eat clean you will get results. I struggled a little with the atmosphere. The instructor's microphone was incredibly loud, like earsplitting. And the whole headset thing felt very Janet Jackson to me. Like, very 90s. And the instructor (who, by the way, was fit, gorgeous and totally present) kept addressing us as "you guys," which felt impersonal. I don't think there's anything wrong with Shred415. It's state-of-the-art group fitness delivered by people who totally care. Shred is good. The problem is me. I'm just old. read more

So whenever I tell Em that I enjoy going to the gym, she always cocks her head to the side and is like, "baby girl, be real, it blows" - a statement that has always mystified me, given that my ADHD goes out of control if I don't move a little everyday - BUT, after going to Shred, I finally get it. Working out, man. Not always fun. To be fair, Shred415 is a good way to get your sweat on. It will kick your ass - but, it's also a little strange - you do 4 intervals of 15m (GET IT, SHRED415!!) - 2 will be on the treadmill and 2 will be on the floor - you will be sheparded through this experience by an instructor (Caroleen has been my fearless fitness leader when I've been home - great teacher) who is pacing around the small, dark studio shouting out commands - shoulder press w a crunch - put your treadmill up to 8% - mountain climbers with a slide - you can doooooo it - it's a little hectic at times, esp if you're on the floor as you change exercises quite rapidly - read: if you are tall and gangly like me, the transition from squat press to weighted tricep pushups will be....not elegant...and you may or may not roll off the exercise bench at one point or another....but fortunately, most people are not totally rocking every beat, so it's not at all an intimidating vibe. In terms of demographics, at 62y, my father is easily the oldest person in the class by 15y - I'd say it's more fit housewife w a banging bod and some cash to spend on Lululemon - though there were a few other people around my age - and if you have bad knees, a lot of the floor stuff might be hard on your joints - it's like of like a step aerobics meets Crossfit meets fat camp. My main concern is that you do a lot of weights w zero supervision abt form - yes, the weights are light, but you can still do some damage to yourself w an improperly handled 5-pounder. Thus, while I think it's not a bad way to get one's heart pumping, it has a haphazard air of impending disaster that I try to avoid in my experiences at the gym. Drop in classes are $24, it's $205/month, or other packages are available. If you like being fit, Miley Cyrus remixes, and being a masochist, Shred415 is probably for you. OH - huge bonus - they offer childcare during classes, which is actually awesome. read more

I am a mother of 4 children ages 10 and under. As a woman in my 40's I need both the cardio and strength training, ideally in the shortest amount of time. I usually do my cardio on my own and then work out with a personal trainer (time consuming)! In between sets my heart rate goes down and lets face it...more talking than I should be doing. At shred you work the entire hour and burn more calories than I have during ANY other class that I have tried (spinning, bar method, daily method). If you are someone looking for cardio, strength training and to be motivated, Shred415 is perfect! The studio is very clean and they keep it cool with fans. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to do it all but they cater to all levels. For example on the treadmill they will say start at a "4, 5 or 6" pace. There are people running at 10 and fast walking. The interval training has already improved my cardio fitness. Took a class from Linda and I loved her style. She explains, repeats, and demonstrates exactly what to do. She was often reminding the class about their form to protect their backs. She was motivating and when she said, "surprise yourself" I put that treadmill a little bit faster than I have ever done or imagined! I always walk out of shred sweaty (yuck) but feeling proud that I took the time to improve my health. read more

I highly recommend Shred415 for a great Total Body workout - and the mental challenge that comes with it. If you are a marathon runner or a power walker, the Shred program can accommodate your needs. The equipment is first class and the studio, locker room and ladies bathroom are immaculately clean and well maintained. The Shred app is easy to use for scheduling and the cancellation policy is fair and communicated clearly with your class confirmation. No small print. All the teachers are fantastic - well trained fitness professionals who are motivating and inspiring, without creating competition between students that you find in other studios. I particularly like classes with Annette Corbin, who brings to class all her skills as a former professional athlete, a coach and a yoga teacher. I feel like Shred415 changed my life. I adore the workout - it is the most challenging and rewarding workout I have ever done. After shredding for a few months I lost 2 dress sizes and wore a bikini for the first time since before I had three kids! It helped me get into the best shape of my life and helped my pace as a runner immensely. I now have muscle definition where I never knew I had muscles! I'm now 6 months pregnant with my 4th baby and still shredding 4 days a week. The instructors have been so accommodating and helpful in giving me modifications. This has been my best pregnancy yet and I think it is all due to Shred415. The MyZone heart monitors are extremely helpful in making sure I don't get my heart rate too high. I also adored them when I wasn't pregnant as I love seeing how many calories I have torched and it is a great way to track your workouts. I haven't had a bad instructor yet. I adore them all and all the friends I have made. It is a great workout and a great sense of community. By far the best workout in town! read more

Shred is the best workout I have ever had. I went 3 times a week for a month and saw significant changes in my body. I think the class is best suited for people who are already in good shape looking to push themselves to the next level or change up their routine. The only downside for me is the cost but if you're looking to see results, it's worth it. read more

Great, great workout. I don't like running, but love running at Shred. You run on a treadway treadmill, so it's easier on your knees, joints, etc. Every instructor pushes you to the max. I've been going for almost 6 weeks and can definitely see the difference. I also run much stronger and faster since starting a few weeks ago.
