Yesterday we had a music teacher (not at Rootz) send out the wrong zoom passcode and teach the entire class without realizing any kids were on there. But today we had my one of son's favorite classes, Super Hero Boot Camp, here at Rootz take place on zoom and it was the best virtual class I saw yet. Mr. David was well prepared by sending us parents some worksheets (scavenger hunt and coloring page) ahead of time. He had a fun superhero background on zoom and engaged the kids for 40 minutes with super hero activities. Since they are so young it did require a parent to be present and think my husband had so much fun that I may have to sign him up for the class in the future. Are 43 year olds allowed? My son did get distracted a few times, which probably also happens in class, but overall he had so much fun. While he wishes he could see all his fellow superheroes in person, this is a great plan b.

Only problem I have is: no slam balls, and drinking fountain is no where to be found downstairs (bring water). 3. Locker room: clean, provide blow dryers. Only problem is showers. Takes a while for water to get hot, stalls too small with only a curtain that doesn't really cover you and you run into it when taking a shower which grosses me out. All in all I am happy, and would recommend you checking this gym out.

This park is really quite extensive. They have a workout facility which had fewer folks there than I expected for a Sunday afternoon. The parking lot of the park is very large as well, which is good to support all the activities. They have multiple ballpark fields (three, I believe), as well as batting cages and a soccer field. There's a skate park, and I was surprised to see the breadth of folks who use it--there were some younger folks here but I also saw someone in his 50s or 60s skateboarding. They have a playground. There's a picnic-type shelter for people to have gatherings, complete with a fire pit. And there's a golf course! I don't know anything about golf but it certainly looked large. I think the golf course is free, as may be the other activities (unsure about the batting cages). There are also walking trails, and you can fish here but you must release what you catch. And near one of the ballparks, there was a tall hill... perhaps tobogganing in the winter? Really nice, well-kept park for all to enjoy. Glad to have learned about it and hope to return.

It's been awhile since I've updated my experience at Rosewood. This review is based on a recent walk I took to get some fresh air and much needed exercise. After parking the car in Downtown Ravinia and walking to Rosewood beach and back to the car (round trip about 1.3 miles), I noticed a bunch of beach updates that are worth mentioning. First of all, gear up, because the beach is open this year and you'll be able to swim! It's a private beach and not free, so you'll have to follow this link (https://www.pdhp.org/beaches/parking-2/) for resident and non-resident fees. This year you can purchase a swim pass and a parking decal. I entered via the dirt path that leads down to the beach so I could make my way back up the stairs for a good stair climb. The path was nicely cleaned up and breathtaking all on its own. Surrounded by lots of foliage and overlooking the ravine, I walked until I met up with the beach boardwalk. The boardwalk is all cleaned up and nicely refreshed. Looks like it did when it first opened! The beach sand is all freshened up and ready for summer. The play structures for kids are covered (but not sanitized). The best part? The steep, really-great-for-your-legs staircase now has handrails! This is such a huge plus for when you can't quite make it up and need to lean over a rail to hold yourself up (don't judge). It was a nice quiet walk, since the beach isn't actually open yet, but it will get crowded for certain. Parking lots have meters.

This was my first time at Taste Buds Kitchen in Bannockburn, IL. This was part of a team building…read moreexercise that my manager put together for a group of eight people. About a week or so before the event, we were given three options to select from for the menu we would be preparing, so we ended up with pasta. Taste Buds Kitchen is located in a mall, so I had some difficulty locating it, but finally saw it. We were split into teams of four and the meal we were prepping was fettuccini, spinach/ricotta ravioli and a marinara sauce. Our instructor was Lauren and she was very nice. There were two ladies assisting her as well, responsible for the clean-up and helping with the prep work. Lauren was great explaining all the steps as well as showing up the prep moves. I love fresh pasta but never thought about making it (and still won't do it at home), but I had no idea how easy it could be with the right tools. Making the dough was fun and interesting, with each of us taking turns kneading the dough in preparation to make the fettuccini and the spinach/ricotta ravioli. Making the fettuccini was such fun and so easy if you have the proper equipment. I really enjoyed putting the dough into the pasta roller to flatten it, then into the cutting attachment to make the pasta. We each got turns going through the process, so I can say that all of us made the pasta and sauce. The spinach/ricotta ravioli and a marinara sauce were also very easy to make. Marinara I have made at home before, but the recipe we used at Taste Buds added a twist by adding shredded carrots for sweetness. Not something I would have thought of, but it really worked. Making the spinach/ricotta ravioli was a hoot. The very first one was a hot mess, but I learned and moved on to make perfect restaurant quality looking ones (IMO). Because we did a morning 2-hour session, tea, water and lemonade were provided for us. What we prepared was delicious and a nice early lunch. Because Lauren and her crew had made dough in advance, there was plenty of pasta for eating and to take home. My only complaint (if there is one) is I would have loved that we had made more of the marinara because it was so good and I would have loved to have taken more home. Overall this was a wonderful experience and the staff was amazing, cleaning up behind us, setting the table, cooking the pasta and ravioli for us. I think this is something I would consider for my direct reports as a team building event.

Not only will you discover a remaining stone wall structure that was part of the Robert C Schaffner Estate, built by Howard Van Doren Shaw, but the restored Schaffner Garden, which is a magical place made for a fairy princess. In the midst of wild flowers, you'll also discover planted trees and benches dedicated to loved ones who have passed on. This garden overlooks the lake and the Millard Park Beach. I can't wait to come back when the flowers are in bloom. On the beach you will find a rock garden and a fun wooden structure/rock identifier displaying native rocks. Kids and kids at heart can take the rocks they discover on the beach and match them to the rock identifier as a learning tool. It's kind of difficult to explain, so you'll just have to see for yourself! Overall, an incredible place to escape to. Note: You can only park there with a Highland Park sticker and dogs are not allowed on the beach.

When we first arrived the main pool was closed for swimming lessons so we made our way to the toddler play area, which is basically a park and sprayer in the middle of very shallow water. I was about to make myself comfortable on a lounge chair when an announcement was made that the main pool was open to the public (around 11am on a Saturday). My 4 yr old dragged my husband over, which meant I had to go too since my 2 year old insists on doing everything that his big sister does. Sigh. The water was absolutely freezing and no area was shallow enough for my kids to stand. More work for me, but (of course) the kids had a blast. I personally prefer Hidden Creek in Highland Park for swimming while my kids are young and not swimming perfectly on their own. The main pool has both shallow and deep ends so one of us can hang w/ my 4 yr old in the deeper water, while the other can hang w/ my 2 yr old in the shallow water...and he's perfectly content being in the same pool as his sister. The water slide in the shallow end is also a big draw for both my kids (and many others) at Hidden Creek. However, as my kids get older I could see myself loving Meadowhill as much as my kids did. There's also an additional side with a very impressive water slide and diving boards as the kids grow. Also worth noting that Glencoe residents pay Northbrook prices here making it one of the more affordable pools in the North Shore for my fam

The large main pool is divided into areas for family use, lap swimming, and adults. There is a separate, well equipped "kiddie" pool for children, a diving pool, and two water slides with a splash down pool. One slide is for use with a flotation device and the other is for use without. There is a refreshment stand that is open during certain hours, and vending machines for use at other times, You can't bring food into the pool area; you must eat in the designated eating area, which is very nice. There are nice areas around the pool for relaxing on the deck chairs. In recent years, Meadowhill pool has been expertly maintained and kept beautifully clean. They have certain hours for lap swimming. The hours change from time to time, so it is important to check with the front desk for up to date information. They generally keep one or two lanes open during the afternoon "rush hour" when the rest of the pool is in use for swimming lessons. Aesthetically, Meadowhill Aquatic Center is one of the nicest outdoor pools I have ever seen. It is landscaped beautifully with native plants along the south side of the pool next to the family picnic area, which can be rented for parties and other events. A couple of times each summer the Park District sponsors a special night at the pool. Usually they will have a DJ, refreshments, games, and prizes. Signs for these activities are posted in advance. The only issue I've run into is weather, which affects all outdoor facilities. They make everyone leave the pool area at the first indication of an approaching storm, so be prepared if you come on a cloudy day.

There are two kind of people in the world: those who seek COMFORT, and those who seek GROWTH. The people who seek comfort sit at home, watch tv, and eat their double cheeseburgers. The people who seek growth meal prep, go to the gym, and get training sessions with Shane McDade. I don't care where this guy works; if you want total body transformation, he's your man. Shane has been the go-to physique expert in my life for about a decade now and let me make something abundantly clear: he has always been the most MASSIVE guy I've ever met. Even as a young man he has had a long-term commitment to health, fitness, and nutrition. But Shane isn't my trainer because he's a nice guy; he's my trainer because he's the very best in the North Shore. Period. In fact I would warn you AGAINST working with him if you're not trying to get the best accountability partner in Chicagoland. With Shane there are no training wheels. No half-ass attempts. NO weak wills allowed! I'll be the first to admit that I don't train as much as I should. But he's the kind of trainer that keeps you motivated, committed to self-development, and makes you excited to come back for more. He will NOT ALLOW YOU to give up on yourself! Just know that as long as you have the dedication and consistency that he will lead you to the best shape of your life. I was interested in locating a personal trainer to improve my overall health and to compliment my love of running. Initially, I was attracted to F.I.T Boutique because of the 8 one hour sessions for $99 promotion. I figured this was the perfect way to try out a F.I.T. trainer, the facility and help determine if personal training was something I would benefit from. I have been working out with Jim twice weekly and I couldn't have anticipated how incredible I would feel less than two months later. Coming from a history of back problems I had a bumpy start, but Jim did not give up on me. It was clear that his priority was to give me the best workout possible without risking injury and he knew exactly what to do. I am a stronger person physically and mentally and I cannot wait to experience more positive results from future sessions. The F.I.T. atmosphere is always friendly and it is evident the trainers are dedicated to their clients. FIT is the place to be! I have never had a personal trainer, but decided to give it a shot (they have a special - 8 sessions for $99), and now I am hooked. I started to see results after just two weeks! I've learned to love to workout and feel great because of it. The trainers know what they're doing and are extremely knowledgeable.They are very motivating and so much fun to work out with. I have been working with my trainer there for about 8 months, and the hour we are together training goes by so fast. He pushes me beyond my limits, and I am stronger and healthier because of it. I purchased the eight session package at F.I.T. Boutique and had my final session two days ago. I must say I'm very pleased that I gave personal training a try. My Personal Fitness Trainer, Tristan was sensational. He was really patient with me and listened closely to my goals and physical concerns. Tristan was not a drill sergeant but he found just the right way to motivate me and get the best out of me. He introduced me to many exercises I was not familiar with and explained concisely what benefits each exercise would provide. Tristan was extremely accommodating when it came to scheduling appointments and very understanding when I had to postpone on one occasion. Above all he is very knowledgeable and highly professional. I work out every day and have tried every kind of fitness class/workout. Working out with Shane at Fit Boutique has been by far the most effective. Shane is highly professional and continually corrects my form to avoid injuries. I have been working out with Shane for the last four months. During that time, I have lost weight, gotten stronger and am now in the best shape of my life. With other exercise programs, I could never achieve well-toned arms and abs. Now, people comment on the muscle tone in my arms all the time; the change has been dramatic. In the last month, we started focusing on toning my legs and glutes (which I have never accomplished with any other workout). I was hesitant to start working out with a trainer, but I wasn't getting the results I wanted working out on my own after having my third baby. I was initially drawn to FIT's introductory offer of 8 sessions for $99. I honestly thought I would stop after those 8 sessions, but the results I was seeing after just two weeks were amazing. My body is changing in ways I never thought possible and I have FIT and my trainer, Trystian, to thank for that. Trystian is an extremely knowledgeable, positive, and motivating trainer. Whether I'm working out at 6am or 6pm, Trystian dedicates the entire hour to my fitness needs and pushes me further than I ever thought I could go. I've been training at FIT for a few years. Exercise, getting in shape and general fitness has never been easy for me. My trainer, Shane, keeps me motivated to do better each time I see him. He makes sure to keep it interesting for me by introducing new equipment, new workouts and always having a positive and encouraging attitude. Since training with Shane, my stamina has improved, but more important, I've gotten much stronger - including core strength, which has improved my balance. FIT recently moved into a new, larger space with more equipment and added classes. They have a great boot camp on the weekends and now offer yoga. Overall, this is a great gym for people who want more one on one training than a "big box" gym could ever hope to offer. read more

FIT Boutique is amazing work out facility with amazing staff. I was really skeptical about a training facility in Deerfield but I was so impressed. They have all the standard equipment but they also have sleds, giant tires and some misc items that helps mix things up. I was setup with Shane McDade as my personal trainer. The man has so much knowledge and he gives an amazing workout. We hit all the muscle groups and he always had the next exercise lined up so there was never down time. We worked inside and outside (weather permitted) I would strongly recommend Shane as a personal trainer. Not only do I love his workouts. He puts on an amazing boot camp. I've been training at FIT Boutique for over a year now and absolutely LOVE it! My trainer, Kevin, is awesome and creates workouts specifically designed to help me achieve my fitness goals. I feel great after every session (physically tired, but mentally and emotionally charged) and look forward to going every week! The owner, Jim, is a great guy and really takes an interest in his customers and what they are trying to accomplish. Great place to train. I started training there 3 years ago and have been a regular since. Now, my wife and 11 year old son are training there as well. My wife who has trained relentlessly for 20+ years agrees that the weight training combined with the cardio is the best workout she gets every week. My son who was concerned with being small has been going for 3 months now, and his self esteem is through the roof. Not to mention he really has gotten stronger and you can see the difference in his body. Jim and the other trainers make you feel comfortable while training and are very knowledgeable. I have been training at FIT for about a year and a half. This past 8 months I have really dedicated myself to building muscle and getting in shape. Shane, my trainer, has been truly inspirational, challenging, motivating, and informative. Because of him and his instruction while training, I have been able to incorporate more lifting into my workouts on my own. Shane is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and patient. For over two years I've been going to fit boutique and I plan on going there for many more years. I started with Izzy 2 years ago, and can easily say it is one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself and my health. Prior to this, I had never been very physically active and I had always been pretty wary of gyms, trainers, etc. When I set up an appointment to meet Izzy, I was very unsure about starting and worried about embarrassing myself when working out. From my first day meeting with Izzy, not only did my cautiousness/hesitancy around personal training quickly begin to fade, but I became excited about training with her each week and building strength. Two years later, and I see Izzy twice a week for personal training and wish I could go more often. Izzy's knowledge, infectious enthusiasm, and dedication make each training session fun and motivating. She continuously shifts and updates my workout program so that I'm always engaged, challenged, and building strength and new skills. She is fantastic at modifying exercises so that they best fit my body's ability. Overall, I've learned so much about my body and how it moves over the last two years, and I can now move and lift so much more than I ever have been able to (e.g. band-assisted pull-ups, push-ups, deadlifts, and much, much more). In addition to physical gains, I also feel more comfortable in my body and more confident in my body's strength and abilities. IzzyFit is also great because of the community involved in training with Izzy. She often has two people train together for each session (although they are each doing their individualized training program). This really builds a sense of community and support around working out. She also owns and trains at TruFit, which is easily the most welcoming, body positive gym I've been to. The trainers are friendly, experienced, and encouraging, and the clientele are diverse. The gym makes clear efforts to be inclusive and to support the community. As part of this, there are ongoing fundraising opportunities to support the gym in providing personal training scholarships. I attended a Gong Immersion event at Avani Studios at Sky Fitness…read more A gong immersion, or gong bath, does not involve water but instead being immersed in the sound vibrations of a gong, believed to be healing to the body by entering a relaxing or meditative state. I knew what to expect because I had attended a gong bath many years ago. That experience had me falling asleep, experiencing synaesthesia, seeing explosions of light, color and sound, as well as feeling very peaceful and relaxed. This immersion was held in the yoga studio and was at capacity. You set down a mat, and other blankets, with feet in the direction of the gong. (This event had five sound healers and gongs). We started with some stretches and yoga. Then you lie down, palms up, legs uncrossed and listen. It's hard to describe the sound. It's deep, almost like a rumble, kinda like the cymbals, but more than just hearing, I also felt it in my pulse. With five gongs it's almost like a symphony with sounds and vibrations building on top of each other but you don't just hear it coming from the direction of your feet, it seems to be coming from every direction, immersing you in vibration. At this point I went in and out of sleep and certain sounds made my limbs twitch. One certain sound seemed to jolt me awake and I saw yellow or green pops of color (my eyes were closed). After that, I started to get restless and could not stay still and needed to stretch. I think at that point I had enough and it was maybe 10 minutes more (the total gong portion was 75 min?). I felt very tired (perhaps extremely relaxed?) and calm, my eyes were tearing (???), and we then had a short deep breathing and meditation. The gong practitioners were lovely, beautiful souls who promoted peace and healing. I felt at peace and in a more refreshed state of mind than when I started. I would attend another of these events but next time I would bring more blankets.
