Fix is located on the northern end of the boardwalk, so it's super easy to find. As its name implies it's a beer garden: beer and simple bar food. When I walked in, I instantly started smiling: there's an old retro bus, 2 fire pits, Adirondack chairs, corn hole and open space - big kid's play ground. Check out my pics for this outdoor venue. Beer Pong is here! We didn't have anything planned for the remainder of our day in Catalina so when we walked by here, stopped cause there are two beer pong tables! We ordered a pitcher and got to play some beer pong which was fun. The rice lager is really refreshing and easy to drink. So easy that we got another pitcher of it to split between three people. The environment is super cute. Lots of umbrellas and spaces to sit. If you sit behind the beer pong table, just be aware that ping pong balls may be in your area. (So sorry, kind of, to the couple that was making out behind us. But also, take that elsewhere. Lots of "excuse me, ball is under your table, let me just grab that ) Bartenders were friendly and service was quick. They have two "fancier" portable toilets in the back. Love the way this place is set up. The beer selection is excellent and their pretzel with cheese is surprisingly delicious, you know, for a pretzel. There is a beer pong table and on weekends they have outside pop up food. We came here every day for the three days we were in Catalina. The guys running it are helpful and delightful. read more

Service fast and pleasant. Prices surprisingly affordable for a tourist town. That said, brisket moist and flavorful, pulled pork same. Not sure where their bacon jam comes from but was very good with a nice balance of bacon fat richness and sweetness. The homemade potato salad and macaroni and cheese were both amazing. Overall rates favorably to good texas bbq, meat and sides. Fact it's at the beach rocks. They also have a great selection of good beer on tap. Outside only seating that's welcoming and clean. A must try from the abundance of fish and Mexican that seems to prevail in town. Salads also available. Better selection than normally found at eateries. Water feta for example. DO NOT COME HERE! Guy who appeared at the front after I walked in stopped my group of 15 from coming in. I walked in to find a table. A large group got up and gave me the table. As my other part of the group found chairs by the fire pit at the entrance. A man came and said the area was for PAYING CUSTOMERS. It doesn't say anywhere to wait for seating. Instead of telling the group that we needed to wait for seating. My group even told the guy we got a table. We were told by the guy at the front that our group should leave for no reason. We just left the Discanso Beach Club and spent over $1000 because we were a large group and to turn us away for whatever reasoning was NOT OKAY!! The guy was rude and I hope that this is not the kind of service that is tolerated. read more

Legit chill spot to hangout. Lots shade on a hot day and one of the best micheladas you can get in the area. Bartenders were super cool and friendly. Overall a really great experience. Oh and the bathrooms were super clean. read more

Nice decor but it was off-season and the vibe was dead because there were very few people due to the colder weather. They did have various fire pits and heat lamps that were clean and appeared fairly new which was nice. Beer price is a bit more expensive as expected... $8 for Bud and $10-12 for most other options. It would be nice to have Catalina local brewing for the pricing to support local brewers (I don't think there are any on the island). My big disappointment was the beer selection... I tried 4 and they were all big misses... pretty important for a Biergarten. read more

Back at my favorite out door patio in Avalon. Right on the popular bay walk past all the boats on the bay. This is the walk most who visit the island travel. Lots of shops, eateries and bars. Vehs. ( Golf carts ) not allowed so popular . Flx is at the north end of this zone. For those looking for a place with the best selection of craft beers on the island, this is it. Lots of covered tables to relax under the sun of Avalon. ( 21 and up) "No kids running around here". Corn hole, ping pong, beer pong too. Great selection of music from the 80s streaming . Now they have food too. Wish the beers were a little more affordable ( 2 beers on tap from San Diego set me back $24 ) otherwise it's a must visit buisness when in Avalon. read more

A great place to end the night! We spent the day at Avalon renting golf carts, seeing the deer, and eating food. Of the places we tried, FLX Biergarten was the best. I ordered the pulled pork sandwhich for $16 and it was filling and tasty. After eating, we played Bingo. In our group of 5, 2 of us won! Bingo was a great way to take the experience from a quick dinner to a memorable family evening. Michael was a charismatic host who showed us to our seats, helped us order food, and hosted the Bingo night. He made the night even better! Kai and Jack helped keep the food truck running and the dishes cleared. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. Everyone was welcoming, the atmosphere was fun and light hearted, and the food was great. We will stop by again when we're back in Avalon! read more

Service from Michael and his awesome personality and excellent recommendations top off the sweet rocking Adirondack chairs really made the space feel like our back yard! Try the "El Segundo Christmas Break" on draft!! This place has it all. Instead of clarifying the misunderstanding, the server became extremely rude and kicked members of our party out while the rest of us were already ordering drinks. The way the situation was handled was completely unnecessary and unprofessional... It escalated so quickly that nobody wanted to argue or make a bigger scene, so the people who had not yet ordered simply left.. What makes this even more frustrating is that this was a large group of adults who were planning to drink.. With 14 adults and only two children, the restaurant easily lost hundreds of dollars in potential drink sales because of how the situation was handled... To be fair, the bartenders who helped us with our first round were actually nice and friendly.. Unfortunately, the interaction with the server completely ruined the experience for us. Overall, it was just okay. The food was fine, but we felt the prices were a little high for the quality and the location. The service also wasn't anything special, and unfortunately, our bartender came across as a bit rude, which definitely took away from the experience. One thing that really surprised me -- and this seems to be common at a lot of places on Catalina -- is that they don't provide complimentary water. If you want water, you have to purchase bottled water, which seems particularly strange to me and arguably worse from an environmental standpoint. I've never really understood that practice, but I guess that's just how things are done on the island. The Sand Trap is probably a convenient option if you're playing golf and happen to be nearby. But if you're staying in the main part of Avalon and looking for a place to eat, I'd probably explore some other options. Nothing terrible about our experience, but nothing that would make us rush back either. Next time we're on Catalina, we'll probably try somewhere different.

Once we were finally seated, another 15 minutes passed without a server acknowledging us. We asked a busser for water, and he said he would get our waiter. We watched him speak to a male waiter, who looked directly at our table but returned to chatting with the bartender. Four other nearby tables that had been seated after us were also left without service. When the waiter eventually headed in our direction, he walked past all of the waiting tables and stopped to talk with guests who had already been served. After sitting for 35 minutes without even receiving water or being greeted by a server, we left. The couple at the table next to us left as well. It truly felt as though the waiting tables were being deliberately ignored. There are many wonderful places to eat on Catalina Island, but based on this experience, I would avoid Topside.

I really wanted to like FLX Biergarten--the vibe is cool, the beer selection is solid, and the outdoor space has potential. Unfortunately, the service just didn't live up to the setting. We waited a while to be greeted, and it felt like we were constantly trying to get the staff's attention throughout the visit. It wasn't overly busy, so the lack of attention was surprising. The beer selection was good, but nothing special--and honestly, the poor service took away from the whole experience. It's frustrating when a place with good atmosphere is dragged down by a lack of hospitality. Might give it another try in the future, but it won't be my first choice anytime soon. read more

Our visit to Catalina Island was absolutely amazing, and a big part of that was our time at the brewery with Michael! From the moment we walked in, he made us feel welcome and added a personal touch to our experience. The beer was fantastic--each brew we tried was crafted to perfection and truly showcased their dedication to quality. Beyond the great beer, the atmosphere was lively and fun, and the island itself offers so many activities to enjoy. We're already looking forward to coming back to explore more and, of course, to relax with another round at the brewery. Thank you, Michael, and the team, for such a memorable experience! FLX Biergarten was such a blast! They have a huge selection of beers--we tried two flights and sampled eight different kinds. The outdoor seating by the fire was perfect, and we even ended up playing Uno and chatting with people we had just met. It's got a laid-back, friendly vibe that makes you want to stay a while. Definitely a fun stop for beer lovers and good times! read more

I honestly have craved this salad once or twice already since leaving. Also had a great pesto type pasta, and a special shout out to their scallop potato that came with the lamb chop. Overall, food came out quickly, and the staff was very friendly - recommend for a casual dinner when you are on the island. Note that they only do bottled water.

We were a large party of 14 adults and 2 children. Before entering, we specifically asked if children were allowed inside and were told they were, as long as they stayed seated at a table and did not sit at the bar. Based on that, we decided to come in. Some of our group had already ordered drinks at the bar, and we were given two tables.. Unfortunately, there was some kind of miscommunication with one of the servers. He apparently understood that part of our group was only going to sit at the table and not order anything. In reality, our entire group was there to order drinks; we simply weren't all ordering at the exact same time.. Instead of clarifying the misunderstanding, the server became extremely rude and kicked members of our party out while the rest of us were already ordering drinks. The way the situation was handled was completely unnecessary and unprofessional... It escalated so quickly that nobody wanted to argue or make a bigger scene, so the people who had not yet ordered simply left.. What makes this even more frustrating is that this was a large group of adults who were planning to drink.. With 14 adults and only two children, the restaurant easily lost hundreds of dollars in potential drink sales because of how the situation was handled... To be fair, the bartenders who helped us with our first round were actually nice and friendly.. Unfortunately, the interaction with the server completely ruined the experience for us. The drinks themselves also weren't anything particularly special... We probably should have asked to speak with a manager at the time, but everything happened so quickly that we just decided it wasn't worth the hassle.. Unfortunately, our August 2026 visit was one of the most disappointing we've experienced. The attention to detail that has made Harbor Sands feel special was missing. We noticed trash in the Sands for days, abandoned towels that weren't removed until we mentioned them, inconsistent food and cocktails, and a general lack of hospitality from some of the staff. We also noticed staff socializing in guest palapas and lounge chairs while paying guests were nearby not being taken care of. None of these issues were major on their own, but together they created a noticeably different experience than we've come to expect. Harbor Sands has always been one of our favorite places because of its well kept grounds, excellent service, and attention to detail. With the premium prices today, we still expect that same level of quality. We're sharing this because we truly care about Harbor Sands and hope management can refocus on the little things that made this destination so special. We sincerely hope our next visit this summer reflects the exceptional experience we've enjoyed for so many years.

Apparently being a "local spot" means you only need to provide decent service to the regulars. If you're not a local, good luck getting the impression that your business matters. And yes, I know it's a dive bar. I wasn't expecting white tablecloths and a sommelier. I was expecting a reasonably clean floor, a drink, and basic customer service. Apparently that was aiming too high. Do yourself a favor: spend a few extra dollars somewhere else. There are plenty of bars where the floors are less sticky and the bartenders don't act personally offended that you showed up with money to spend. Definitely won't be back. I'm sure they won't care--which pretty much sums up the entire experience.

It wasn't busy as it was during the week, and we found a table on the patio. Mr. B ordered a flight to try and we ordered a pineapple jalapeno pizza. I know many say pineapple doesn't belong on a pizza, but we happen to like it. The crust of the pizza was thin and covered in melted cheese, chunks of pineapple and slices of jalapeno. It was the perfect amount of spice and the pineapple calmed it down by adding a hint of sweetness. The beer was great, the pizza even better and you just can't beat the views of the bay. Service was good, and we were off to a good start of eating on Catalina Island.
