I don't typically write these reviews, but I definitely want to jump on here and say Dale Rimmer…read morewas beyond amazing. I got his name and number from my vet actually so I had to cancel the appointment because water was pouring out of my ceiling which I thought was a roofing issue from my porch. It turned out that it was a heating pipe that split. My daughter told me that the floor upstairs was soaked. I ran upstairs I pulled up the carpet and it was scolding to the touch. There was a lot of steam coming off the floor. I ended up calling the fire company going way over the extreme, but by that point I had already called Dale Rimmer. He ended up getting here as fire company was leaving ( which was 20 minutes ) He did explain on the phone that it was probably just steam coming off the floor. He remained with me at the house until I had somebody able to come out and fix the pipe( the fire company turned off my boiler as it was pouring water into my house). I'm also leaving a review for my Fire company. I've never needed them in all my years living here, but they were downright amazing and the same thing with the police downright amazing. I cannot be thankful enough for my community and the fact that Dale was the voice a reason and calmness in my crazy day.!!!

Several siding contractors we called said they only did siding. Dale said he had contractors that he has worked with for years that could do the stone work and build the new porch. Dale was involved during the entire process and the stone mason and carpenter he brought in were great. The porch and stone work turned out better than we expected. We also had a new flagstone walkway installed and our deck refurbished. The new siding, gutters and downspouts completed the makeover of our home's exterior. Dale was personally involved and was quick to answer and questions or concerns we had. All of the people took pride in their work and the results show it.

Upon completion of the project (after "clean up") we found pieces of shingles and debris all over our yard. We have two dogs and one attempted to eat a shingle before we realized they were in our yard. I figured I would just let it go. Yesterday 9/21, I went up to our attic. I had not been up there since before the 8/25 project. As I begin walking up our steps I see pieces of wood and debris on the stairs. I was confused but assumed it was just dust from the banging of the project next door. As I turn the corner into my attic, I was shocked to find several more larger pieces of wood and much much more debris. Including large nails. Shocked, I went over to see where they came from. As I approached I could clearly hear the outside, as if a window was open. I look up along the wall I share with my neighbor to find that wooden beams in OUR attic had been haphazardly ripped out and our ceiling was replaced with something. I did not know what at the time. In that moment I was just shocked but so pissed. Our roof/ceiling was tampered with and worked on without any permission. OUR HOME. OUR PROPERTY. We did not sign anything. We did not see a contract. We did not know this had happened. The wood was just literally ripped out, and there was evidence of this very clearly on our ceiling and our floor. What if that was our bedroom? The roofers did not know what they were cutting into and could have easily began cutting into our room. According to Tom Banes Jr. "We could throw what if's around BUT....". But what? WHEN (not IF) we go to sell our home, that attic ceiling is going to look horrible the way the wood is ripped out unless Banes fixes it properly. I call immediately (10:18 am) and speak with Jean. I was told "the person I need to speak with is in a meeting and he will call me back". 1:03 pm rolls around and I call back. I should not have waited that long as it was an urgent situation that we needed resolved. From our perspective, this was serious. We had no clue what was going on with our roof. Jean repeats that "they are busy so just wait for a call back". I told her "no thank you, please go get someone that I can speak to now as I should not have been waiting 3 hours, and I will not continue to wait". She then says again "they are in meetings all day out of the office", so I asked for the contact number of whoever "they" are. She gives me the number to Tom Banes Jr. I begin to thank her and ask her to please relay that I called again, but I will be calling Tom Jr as well. Before I could finish my sentence she hangs up on me. I guess because I am not a paying customer I do not deserve her respect and professionalism. Not the way to do business, my friend. Tom Jr and I schedule a meeting for him to come out at 2:30 pm to take a look at our attic. He arrives right on time and we head up. He explains it is a ridge vent and "it will only benefit us as it adds ventilation to our space". Ok, fair. Great, even! However, we did not give permission for this to occur. We did not sign anything. We had no clue that they touched our roof. I asked why we were not asked for permission or notified that they were literally going to be cutting into our roof and ripping out our ceiling and Tom Jr nonchalantly said "usually the neighbors communicate that". Not a good answer. During this conversation there was no type of apology for the lack of communication. There was no type of accountability taken for this. At this point we are just angry that we were not informed that our roof and ceiling would be ripped out. Tom Jr said "we have been in business for 71 years and we did not get here by blowing smoke up peoples asses". At this point, I wonder how you got here, because this is unethical. Tom Sr, please call me to resolve properly.

Having to hire a slate roofer in the Allentown area (rather than relying on our old one in another…read morearea) turned out to be a re-education about the difficulty of finding a reputable and responsive roofer. In all, I made five phone calls to try to line up estimates on having slates replaced. Two never bothered to return the call. One called back 3-4 days later. Another called back 2 days later. (That guy, the Coplay, not Bensalem Romano, said he "doesn't do" estimates on slate replacements.) Just one called back that very day, and boy, did we luck out - J & M Roofing. We already knew the rough going price of slate replacement and J & M was right in the pocket. The boss, Greg, was a charming and down to earth guy and his son (he has two in the business with him) made a point of stopping by swiftly and taking pictures that were emailed to us to show exactly what needed replacing. Greg has been in the business a long time and knows how to ration his time. Quicker jobs like ours get reserved for days of iffy weather and weekends, and indeed, the following weekend he and one son and one helper showed up and got the job done in short order. The job was done just recently so I can't tell you about durability. I can tell you that we were happy with the speed of response, and that all the workers were personable and cleaned up afterwards decently. Throughout the process, Greg was a good and consistent communicator too. If you're looking for an experienced roofer - and one who knows slate - definitely include J & M Roofing in your considerations.

He didn't overcomplicate the project or load me up with roofing jargon like other contractors did. Their quote came in customized to our project and was built to have no large "extra material " surprises when the project closed. They were always communicative and friendly about the project. When they encountered a situation that was abnormal, they walked me through the issue and offered resolutions that would've cost them money. They seem to be stand-up craftsmen who want to do a good job at all costs and don't treat their customers like just another number. If you are going to invite anyone to do work on their home especially on your roof, they are the type to get.

So when i saw their fleet of trucks decend on my street a few years back, efficiently and respectfully doing a neighbors roof, I decided I was going to jettison my old roofer and hire BHC. BHC is a very well run, responsive, personable, respectful, and conscientious business. They come when they say they will, do only what's needed, and provide fair value for their services. The workers are straight forward in their explanations, taking photo evidence of the roofing conditions to share with the home owner. They discuss what needs to be done right away and explain the options available, which is good to have if working with a budget. They follow up with reminders if the roof is coming due for maintainence which is a nice service. Outta sight, outta mind is human nature, so i appreciate the reminders for recoats, etc. The roof is not something to leave to chance, especially with the crazy weather experienced lately ( strong winds, hail, torrential rainfall, etc). I recently had a clogged downspout (from some tree debris) that was pooling water on the roof and BHC was out within a few days of my call. No job is too small when it comes to their customers. I sincerely appreciate that kind of respect and service. I am so glad I found BHC Roofing! They are a reliable, honest roofing company providing excellent work (at a fair price) which they stand behind. A joke: Q: How did the roofer get such good feedback on his roof installation? A: He nailed it. Thanks, BHC!

"Sorry it's been rainy, one to two more weeks" I was told repeatedly every time I called to ask. Safe to assume my little leak repair fell to the back of the queue. Work was finally "completed" by their tech in early May. A moisture meter showed that one of the leaks was fixed but the other was not improving. The tech came out again to go over the work once more. He seemed honest about doing everything in his power to make sure everything he saw was properly sealed, but again the moisture meter showed the problem still wasn't improving 1-2 weeks after. Finally the original salesman came back but bluntly refused to do any more work on the issue, or even seriously look at it. He took a glance at my 5-months-of-water-damaged plaster bedroom ceiling/wall and said "sorry there's nothing we can possibly do". Not even sure why he bothered showing up.

After finally scheduling a date they didn't show up and never called - after I took the day off of work to meet them. Then, calling back 2 more times with no response - a technician randomly shows up while absolutely no one is home, unannounced, caulks 5ft of my roof, without my permission to do the work, then sends a bill of $377 for 10 minutes worth of work, which is all recorded on our home security system. We never even called to have a technician to come out. We simply wanted someone to look at the roof and give us a recommendation on what to do and give us a quote. The technician then proceeds to follow up his work with a text message saying that "caulking is not the correct fix, but it was something he could do when he was out at our house." So after all of that we still have the issue with our roof. To make things worse, after paying the bill they reach back out to me and tell me that the method they use to get paid had an error, and that error is going to charge another $30 fee. I would like to also mention that the entire interaction described above was done completely over text message. Not one employee - the scheduler, technician, and billing personnel ever called or talked in person. The lack of communication was baffling. I find that very unprofessional - especially after a customer is expressing issues with your company. When I reached out to them with my complaints the only response back from them was it was my fault, not theirs and that I was problem, without hearing me out. That is horrible customer service which I find ironic when their company goal per their website is to "achieve a 100% customer satisfaction rating from every customer." That's obviously not true. All and all it was an absolutely horrible experience from start to finish. I highly recommend finding another company to do the work that will not take advantage of you.
