I hired Handi Boyz to repair a few projects at my home including a sinking car port, large outbuilding repair and shed restoration. What a fantastic job on all the projects. The car port especially, is secure and grounded, all the downspouts refreshed as well as the siding. The outbuilding was deteriorating, had foundation issues and needed overall TLC. I am really surprised and confused on the high ratings based on my experience. I first reached out mid-May (May 17) for gutter cleaning. The owner responded immediately to my request asking for my address to form a proper quote. He sent me the quote and asked for my contact information to move forward for scheduling and billing. I replied with my information and did not hear back for 5 days. I never ended up getting a scheduling or billing document. After 5 days he did quote me again, and said they're about 2 weeks on work which is not a problem. I communicated with him that I have an extremely inflexible schedule, so scheduling out is not a problem and requested to get something on the calendar. Then that same day, in the afternoon he messaged me asking "does tomorrow work?". Again someone with an inflexible schedule will not be able to make something work less than 24 hours On May 31 I asked again a very detailed question "Can we schedule 5 weeks out at this time? We generally are inflexible with our work schedule and schedule weeks to months out in advance. Weeknights - available 3pm or later. Weekends - can schedule out July 2nd weekend and further at this time." I received a reply on June 7th 7 am"I think we can take care of your gutters tomorrow after 3PM. Does that work?" Extremely frustrating after already explaining twice I have an inflexible schedule. I replied at 808 AM and said yes 330 PM is fine today. I did not hear back. At 401pm I replied " can we please get something officially on the calendar". I can't keep playing this game everyday. He then replied "tomorrow is better". Again... inflexible schedule.. I then replied "I am not available the rest of the week. I was only available today. Like I said before, I have an inflexible schedule. This is why we need to schedule in advance. When is the next time you are in Philly." June 10th he replied " we can do late Monday after 4pm does that work", we finally got it scheduled. His son arrived and cleaned the gutters, $169. He took some photos. It took over 10 days for him to send the photos to me after requesting. I also asked several times for the photos, as well as recommendations based on their findings. At this time, I still have not received any recommendations on what to do with what his son found. Bottom line - they are NOT easy to work scheduling wise. They are not responsive. It felt like they just cleaned my gutters, took my money, and aren't willing to help further. Although I can understand a busy schedule and understand they only come out to clean when they have multiple jobs in Philly - I still firmly believe this could have been handled better. Better scheduling and time management, I don't see how or why we couldn't have gotten something in the calendar. I hate to give a bad review, but this is my honest opinion and experience. read more

Got a quote and signed a proposal with these guys.. they came in around the lowest with their bid. At no fault to them, the color I picked wasn't what I thought it would and without hesitation Kenny immediately said, "hey, no worries, we'll send it back and get you what you really want". Unfortunately for us, Kennys schedule fills up pretty fast and because of that I wasn't able to go with him. He immediately offered a refund and delivered it back to us. Update: As you can see, the owner responded to my review and I also wanted to share that he followed up with me to give me a refund for service I was charged incorrectly. Really appreciate that he owned up to the fact that his staff has room to improve and he didn't expect me to change my review at all. Including the update here so you know there truly was follow-through! I needed a gutter cleaning and to install gutter guards in a specific area of my house, but may have needed other work done. Water was pooling in a certain area because our gutters were overflowing, so I asked for quotes from multiple businesses and received different recommendations which included fixing pitching or installing a diverter. I ultimately chose Handi Boyz because of the honest assessment of what I may need done without trying to upsell and because the owner Kenny was transparent about what the options may be, told me about how he's a veteran and this is a family-owned business. I found it's easier to communicate with him over the phone rather than text and I liked how efficient he was about sending me a detailed estimate and appointment confirmation soon after we spoke. With other small businesses I had talked to they seemed less professional or efficient (not a fan of back and forth texts). Kenny explained to me in advance that his estimate may include the diverters but if I didn't end up needing them then I won't be charged (which was true). The day before my scheduled service he called to tell me that he would be sending two people to do the job, but the day of I was surprised that only one person came. He didn't own up to the fact that he was 4 hours late and claimed that I shouldn't have been told he was going to arrive at the earlier time. I had called and texted Kenny a few times during those hours that I was waiting to ask for an update, but he never responded and his voicemail box was full. That was disappointing since he was so communicative beforehand. About the actual service: I was satisfied with the job that was done and could accept what I paid for it, I just wish communication was better. Apparently it was debris that was clogging my downspouts and causing the overflowing gutters, which I would think should be included in the "gutter cleaning" cost but apparently that is considered "gutter repair" (he told me I didn't need any repairs yet that's how I was billed). I tried asking for more clarity about this because it didn't seem like this is what Kenny had explained to me, but he didn't really have an answer for me and maybe wasn't involved in the business side of things. I will say I appreciated his explanation of what was causing the pooling. He had good work ethic, worked efficiently, and was really considerate about not coming into the house to access a specific area of my gutters so he just went from the roof without needing to come in at all. However, I can't give this a 5-star review because of the lack of communication (nobody apologized that day nor after the service to admit there was some miscommunication) and I kept finding leftover gutter cover pieces/parts in my garden beds after the installation. Wish someone would have followed up with me to explain what happened. read more

We paid 50% up front and reserved 12-2 today--you can't schedule them unless you pay up front. It is now 3:20 and we haven't seen or heard from them--after leaving multiple messages, phone and here. They were very responsive on Wednesday when we were booking--told us immediately how we were to pay, which we did promptly. Now they won't respond at all. However, I noticed many plastic signs on my property and neighbors properties and public corner parks etc. I counted 7 signs within a 5 minute walk from my house. When I contacted the owner of HandiBoyz and he ignored me and said that it's completely within his right to post those signs. Most municipalities - including Philadelphi, expressly prohibit "bandit signs". It's considered litter. However, Kenny Lassiter refused to remove them.
