The spray area at The Uni-sphere Playground for All Children, the Lawrence Street Playground and the Jurassic Playground were all needing to be deeply sanitized according to The Health Department following a bacterial infection outbreak that sickened thirty two park goers last week. All were admitted into the local hospitals care after testing positive. The bacteria was identified as Shigella which affects the intestines when ingested by ingesting water and eating contaminated food or coming into contact with a contaminated person. So if you or anyone you know was in the park in the areas listed above, your fever, nausea and cramps might not be from the greasy Chinese food take out spot on that corner in that neighborhood you just stopped in at for lunch. Get your act together New York, the subways are crumbling, the roadways are beyond the Ho Chi Min Trail levels of obliteration, there is garbage everywhere in the streets and sidewalks and garbage cans nowhere. Flushing Meadows may sound like a field full of porta-potties, but it's actually... well, OK, it's a field full of porta-potties. But it's so much more than that. It has a brick & mortar toilet too. My favourite park in the country, I actually enjoy it more than Central Park. The views are very different, but just as awe-inspiring. The Queens Theatre is haunting and bizarre (it's the thing from Men In Black). The Queens Museum backs onto this park and is amazing. The Billie Jean King Tennis Center is at the corner of this awesome space. You can hear the crowds during the US Open games on center court. And of course the gorgeous globe, the World's Fair, dominates the skyline and is a highlight of this area of the greatest borough in the greatest city in, possibly, the world. Certainly my favourite park in the world, and one of the most visually stunning. People are a little down on the fact that several major highways traverse this enormous park, but I'm pretty enormous myself, and on Saturday nights I become something of a highway, so I can absolutely relate. read more

I remember riding my bike over here as a teen with my best friend. The park seem to have expanded since my adolescent years. Holy smokes is this park huge and quite intimidating if you don't know where you're going. Luckily I didn't let that deter me. Although I used to frequent the park many moons ago it's hard to locate certain locations. For example I was trying to find the Queens Theater and ended up in No Man's Land. Good thing I had my hunny with me because I would've been left for dead if I came by my lonesome. We had to utilize google maps because it was clear that we were lost. The navi told us to make a left but actually it was a right. I felt like if we had a compass and a map of the park it would've helped a great deal. In my opinion there needs to be more signage throughout the park. It needs to be at every turn, up, down and around. If you were to ask me if I would come back? I was initially a little skeptical when a friend of mine suggested we walk off our lunch at Corona Park. We'd come all the way to Flushing from out of state. It seemed like we should have spent more time in the city soaking up the sounds and sights of the metropolis. Nevertheless, I relented and made the trek to the park. I've always been a fan of green spaces. There's something so freeing about standing at the edge of an open field with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. This park is massive, with multiple entrances and exits and fields of green as far as the eye can see. On this particular Saturday afternoon, there were tons of people gathering on the various soccer fields. Some were playing, but most were simply enjoying each other's company and a good picnic. The trees had already dropped their leaves by the time we went, but I can imagine how much prettier the park would be in the spring or fall. The numerous walkways are paved and take you along the fields, studded with a few statues here and there. At the center of the park is the Unisphere. Until I stepped into the Queens Museum, I hadn't understood the significance of this steel structure, but had a newfound appreciation for it afterwards. Whether you're looking for a quiet space to gather your thoughts, a game of pickup, or just want to explore someplace new, this park could be the venue for you. read more

This park is gets better and better. There has been many improvements around Meadow Lake section; they rebuild the boat house and the old pool/diving stadium that was a eye sore at the north end of the lake is gone and rebuilt with a paddle boat and surrey bike rental station. We used a coupon and tried it out; fun! They opened additional parking areas and a full bathroom near the north section of the lake. Very large park that seems to be forgotten by a lot of people because it doesn't have the flair or beauty of Central Park or Prospect Park, but don't let that stop you from coming here and enjoying what it has to offer. I ran a race here and got to see a lot of the park. It's huge! There are a ton of playing fields of all types. You can actually walk through the park and get to the Queens Botanical Garden. Some of the structures from the World Fairs are awe-inspiring, especially the Unisphere. Some others are in a bit of disrepair. With the Science Museum as well as the theater in the park, you can always find things to do here. read more

The site of the 1964 World's Fair!! I was so excited when spent the day there. There was so much history! I was there during one of the NYRR half marathons rooting on my friends and family. I spent my time looking around the park and enjoying all of the monuments. I hope they preserve the items left from the World's Fair. This is such a wonderful park. Came here for the Queens Summer Festival & summer stage. It is a huge park with amazing sites. I wish they played music throughout the park to make it more of a festival. There is a line of food trucks (overpriced & not very tasty). There is a kids area with oversized bouncing area & the stage is kinda small. There are also a vendors who are giving out free stuff. Beautiful, beautiful, and GIANT park! There's plenty of open space, great place to take energetic kiddos who can't sit still. There's soccer fields and regular grassy areas. Looks like there's food trucks nearby as well which is super convenient. The park is huge so if you get hungry, finding a sit down place will definitely be a walk. They do have public bathrooms, downside is that there's so many people seems common for the women's restroom to run out of toilet paper. But let's be real, no one ever comes to a park to specifically use the bathrooms... I came last weekend specifically for the Water Lantern Festival. It happens once a year and I had an amazing experience. I was impressed at how the park was able to literally fit THOUSANDS of people and still feel huuuuge. I would definitely love to come back here and have a picnic! read more

This place is something special. And not because the Men In Back believe the observation decks are retired space crafts to return unwanted extraterrestrial guest back to their own planets. Some people knock it as old and dirty and past it's prime but for me, I love it. It oozes history and charm. The remnants of the Worlds Fair (Unisphere and the observation decks) gives it a nostalgic feel and the Hall of Science and CitiField bring it back to modern times. Not too mention Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, National Tennis Center, Queen's Zoo, Queens Museum of Art, Meadows Lake and the numerous paths make this place a great time. Sadly, the flying saucer observation decks are noticeably rusty and in need of paint. It'd be nice to see them brought back to yesteryears charm. Also bugs me that the baseball stadium is called CitiField when it should be called SHEA STADIUM. If sponsorship is so important then at least call it "SHEA STADIUM SPONSORED BY CITIBANK"; or at least "Shea Stadium brought to you by CitiBank". The park is absolutely wonderful but unfortunately the area outside the park is looking bad these days (somewhat rundown). I don't know if I want to be walking around the community at night, much less through the park. read more

Iconic park. Got so many things to do near the area, Hall of Science, Queens Zoo, and ton of grassland to relax and have a picnic or play sports. Flushing Meadows Corona Park or Corona Park is a public park in New York City. Located in northern Queens I took the 7 train to Mets-Willets point (a stop before last stop) then walked to the park to see what remains of the 1939 World's Fair. Sadly only one building remains from that time, but there are skeletons of the Fair held in 1963. The whole site is very well maintained and I had great fun figuring out where the various 1939 pavilions were. Ireland's Shamrock Pavilion, bulldozed on site in 1942, appears to be under the famous Flushing Meadow tennis courts! The whole area oozes with atmosphere and history, and it is a fascinating day out. I particularly liked the water feature - in the shape of the globe - left in situ since the World's Fair in the 1960s. Highly recommended. read more

I enjoyed walking through the glorious Flushing Meadows Park while deciding that I was either going to visit the Queens Museum, the Queens Botanical Garden or the Queens Zoo. So many great aces and things to see in this park.....Such a difficult decision! Finally, I decided to go to the Queens Zoo. On my way through Flushing Meadows Park to get to the Queens Zoo I saw so many things.... 1.) Ballfields and areas that was sectioned and there were 2 separate baseball games, a soccer game and 2 volleyball games being played at the same time. 2.) Groups spending time together having picnics. 3.) The cute little amusement park located near the Queens Zoo! The children were really enjoying the roller coaster! 4.) Great music, great energy and lots of people enjoying the lovely weather and environment. 5.) The beautiful tennis center with scenic water/sprinkler view near the Queens Museum. FMCP is great to run through - the inclines presented by bridges and bike ramps are good for training. and it's wonderful to run past statues and rockets and spaceships and the Unisphere! however, I wish they'd work on fixing the seemingly eternal puddles on some of the paths - some of which are beginning to dwarf the actual lakes. this is a bigger problem, hilariously enough, on the southern end, near Meadow and Willow Lakes. I've since learned to adjust my running routes to mitigate that risk. cutting through the grass fields between the aforementioned puddles often means sinking into deep mud. to be fair, I am training for an all-terrain relay race in a few weeks...perhaps I shouldn't kvetch so much. the various grilling setups are a great resource - yes, you have to bring your own charcoal, and it's first come first serve, but still it's a nice way to get outside and engage in that primal need to set meat on fire and eat it. read more

For many years, I didn't bother going to Flushing Meadows Corona Park because I was afraid to get lost. It was intimidating, especially with multiple entry and exit points right off the parkways! But once in a blue moon, a gathering here and there forced me to drive here. I've brought family and friends to the Unisphere for a relaxing stroll and quintessential photo op, not to mention that Queens Museum was the easiest parking lot to get to. Last year, my friends and I ran the NYRR Queens 10k here and thought it wasn't bad! So I planned my longest training run pre-marathon to be held here because if I unintentionally wander, my mileage is counted towards my training! This helped me to become more comfortable with some landmarks, although I'm certain there's a lot more routes to explore. We came here two weeks ago too. Unfortunately, it was crowded despite COVID restrictions and not everybody wore mask. read more

A beautiful park. Not the best place logistically to have a huge concert though. At least not the way they had it fenced off. I love this place, its gorgeous. If I lived closer I'd visit it more often. That said, having like thousands upon thousands of people trying to enter and leave one exit wasn't only annoying, it just wasn't safe. Here's a review I never thought I write but during quarantine with not much else to do we found ourselves coming to the park on more than one occasion. This is Queens biggest park & it's not a bad one at all so much to do & explore here. You have the Queens zoo, Hall of Science & the Merry go round area which now looks like a small amusement park. For a little culture u have the Queens Museum & Theater & let's not forget the famous landmarks that being the Unisphere & Worlds Fair. On the entertainment front u have both tennis stadiums Arthur ash & Billy Jean & home of the Mets, Citi Field. The park is easily accessible walking, driving.. biking & by the 7 train. Great big park, nicely kept great way to spend a day outdoors , either relaxing or taking in the sites. Plenty of open space & picnic areas, the lake has rentals during the nice weather. Flushing is also home to many events during the year. This park was a life saver during quarantine with not a lot to keep u entertain a walk in the park was good enough to keep me sane. read more

As a kid I had loved going to Flushing Meadows Park. With their plentiful grasslands, trees and endless bike area. Flash forward to present day, it doesn't feel the same anymore. Park seems emtpied on a bright and sunny day. Benches are worned out, the world's fair landmark is all rusty. The parks bathroom are kept tidy and clean though. Main attraction is still the Unisphere and the gardens surrounding it. It is a piece of NYC landmark that represents the pride of the people living here. I did want to take a picture of the Gazebo outside of the Queens Museum, but found someone inhabiting it with a toddler (thats odd). Still, revisiting this park brings back a sense of nostalgia for me. read more

The other reviews are right - this park isn't that clean. It's not that fancy. There are no hipster ice cream joints like on the High Line or a food fair like at Bryant Park. But I wouldn't trade an afternoon here for one anywhere else. New York life is here - the real deal, no tourists need apply. Families and kids are here, grilling, playing some very exuberant soccer (ahem, futball) games, walking dogs of all sizes, rollerblading, skateboarding, flying kites. The people watching alone is worth the trip. Grab yourself a Mister Softee cone - becoming a rarity in Manhattan since their turf war with the other ice cream truck gangsters - and stroll through the rusting out World's Fair towers, which everyone knows are really space ships via Men in Black. Check out the giant globe, and the amazing sculptures of athletes dotting the park. We even discovered, in the dusky gloom, a miniature carnival had sprung up, dreamlike in the late October sunset. The call of birds from the zoo aviary fill the air. There's a smell of barbecue smoke, and elotes. It's not glossy. It's not bougie. But It's New York City. read more

Definitely one of my favorite parks in Queens. Not only is it huge but there's so much going on in here that it's like a never ending maze of activities. I just found out there was a golf course on one side of the park lol. They also have the huge globe they're known for in the back of where the Queens Museum is which makes for pretty pictures lol. Of course we come here for the Pokémon hunting excitement because they definitely have a lot of stops and a few gyms you can fight. You can also definitely get your steps in because it's a lot of ground area you can cover. They also have a zoo in there lol which I've never been to but my nephew went and he enjoyed it very much. Definitely a kid friendly park that kids will enjoy running around or biking around in. We sure love coming here. read more

Decided a spontaneous trip yesterday with Nicole and was not disappointed. We rented a two person bike from a bicycle rental in the park for an hour and had an amazing time. This park is great for sight seeing and pictures. Normally the park would be packed on a sunny weekend however we were lucky enough to come right after a downpour so it was empty. Overall the park was beautiful but I would wish they had more signs or better maps of the park. read more

This park is so big and I've only been to parts of it but it's great and very pretty. There is a huge lake with a nice path around it to walk or rent bikes. And along the path is a boat rental as well. The park isn't the cleanest but there is ample parking in the big parking lot off the highway. Great for a walk or a picnic! read more

This place is great for people who love nature and exercising. I watched a beautiful sunset here tonight after spending most of my afternoon here. There are a few food trucks around as well as ice cream trucks. There is a zoo inside. I ran the New York City Marathon here as well! It is conveniently along the 7 train line if you get off at the Mets-Willets Point stop. It is also along the LIRR line! There are many parking lots inside the park so you can drive to a quieter spot rather than having to walk from one end to the other. There's a very well known spot which is the Unisphere that shoots up water on warmer days. It smells a bit tho... My parents waited at the Unisphere when I was younger and once the fireworks went off I cried and asked them to run away. There's fireworks here on July 4th weekend. Better watch your tax dollars burn! There are multiple toilets around the park. They close at sundown. There are park security that drive around throughout the day. There's a section of the park that's near a recreation center (which has a swimming pool) open to people that live in Queens. If you go ask for the bathroom in there they will hold your ID. There are soccer fields and basketball courts around Corona park. This park is great for pokemon players! You can rent out single, double, or 4 people bikes. I think there is also a rental for little rowing boats closer to the big lake. This is a very family and group-friendly place to be! read more

It's been many years that I had not visited this park. Too many. Today I was drawn here by the Dragon Boat Festival. They do not allow parking in the parking lots by the general public. I went by car and parked by the Subway Station and Shuttle Buses takes one to the Event. The place was teaming with spectators and participants. The teams set up tents and had families and friends providing them with a place to rest in the shade, food, beverages. There was an area with different vendors of food, beverages, for the general public in trucks, tents. The festival takes place over the weekend for two days. It was really fun watching the races. Today the did 48 races. I got there for the last 10 races. The boats and crews are colorful. Some of the races were really tied, several boats neck to neck. Exciting. The threat of rain was present, but it held off. The only negative incident as I was sitting down next to a young couple, the man next to me finished drinking a bottle of water and threw the bottle into the lake. I told him off."Shame, why did you do that?" He just hushed me and kept going. Otherwise, a very nice family oriented afternoon. read more

Main extraterrestrial attraction aside (that is New York State Pavilion I am referring to, of course *cough*), Flushing Meadows park is vast - lots of open space: for saucers to land, I assume, or for us, natives and aliens, to walk around and enjoy the landscapes. If you new to Queens (or planet Earth), you have to come here and see it all for yourself: visit Unisphere, several sculptures around the park, carousel, museums and sport fields. (Make sure to stare at buried Time Capsule that has to be opened in 5000 (what???) years - it looks suspiciously like an entrance to underground bunker... Just stand here... Turn three times... Flushing Meadows is the ultimate park in Queens for its versatility and its overall beauty. During the busy months, this place is crawling with tourists and locals during the USTA matches for the US Open, or whenever there is a festival happening in conjunction with its museum, or even the Dragon Boat races that occur annually in August or when movies (i.e. Men In Black) are filming the area, this park just seems to get little rest. But then there are the off days, where people lounge to enjoy the sunny days during summer time, or the joggers / bikers who come through here to satisfy their daily routine. It is simply a location where people from all corners of the globe (and New York City) come to enjoy their days / nights. The grass is green, especially in the summer time. This place is a choice outing for the people who enjoy outdoor BBQ's and don't want to make the trek to Exit 37. Also, when Spring rolls around, its a great place to either play a soccer game or watch as the the players troubadeur across green land and channel their inner "FIFA world cup" to score that ever elusive goal (crowd roars). Came here to attend the Louis Armstrong festival on Saturday(6/20). So glad that Queens is trying hard to promote the culture and history that we have here. Everyone needs to know about it especially in regards to jazz. The festival was small, it's the second year of its existence and Queens College, being one of the sponsors made a good effort. Lots of activities for the family, two beer gardens indoors and many of the food trucks that NYers enjoy in other parts of the city Now on to the music. They had an interesting lineup of performances spanning traditional jazz, fusion, hip hop, salsa, afrobeat, and rock. Anitbalas was incredible, Rebirth Brass Band was dope, glad I got to see them live. Then there was Ozomatli, which was a lil different from what I'm used to, kinda reminds me of the stuff my Tio plays with a west coast vibe. Then of course, the main reason a lot of people came : Ms Lauryn Hill!!!!! The Queen herself in Queens blessing us with her presence. At first I got scared because I remember what happened when she was late to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl. Then all my troubles washed away when she glided across the stage. The atmosphere changed instantly. She performed a mixture of old and new hits, all while it was raining down on us but nobody cared about getting wet. When she started free styling all of us got super hyped. And then boom it was over, it was an experience that couldn't be replicated. I could hear guys in the crowd offering her wedding proposals. The whole scene was dope. Only issue was getting home, thanks to the MTA as usual, the 7 train was on some next sh.. Not enough trains to get everyone home, and only express trains running. No one cared cause Lauryn Hill loves us!! read more
