Oh my!!!!! So my sisters birthday is today , the 6th so I ordered over phone yesterday. Due to everywhere in Georgetown does not deliver except G.T cupcakes. We have done our welcome with them since the little house was the hidden gem. Well..... I jumped out on a limb to find the most perfect cake! Didn't know how far they were or if they would travel the distance to me. Luck was on my side. It SNOWED the next day!!! I called to see if they would still deliver, the lady said she'll Check. So I went to get a glorious tip for his service. Unfortunately I missed him by seconds. ' Fluffy Thoughts ' has come through as spoken. Please check out the lemon raspberry , four layer, heavy lb. for lb. beautifully decorative and every taste bud counts cake! My sister was much obliged. read more

I ordered a cake for a business meeting. They said it was delivered, but no one at the business can find the cake. No one at Fluffy Thoughts has gotten back with me or expressed any interest in helping us locate the cake. No one has responded to my calls or emails. Cake cost $120.00 and was not delivered. They did send a picture of the cake and we requested frosting cover the seam of the cake topper we sent, they did not cover the seam, but put the frosting around cake edge. read more

If someone had asked me prior to today if I recommended Fluffy Thoughts, I would have said yes in a heartbeat as they did our wedding and grooms cake, birthday and holiday cakes, and holiday pies over several years. After today - absolutely not! Previous loyalty means nothing. They have zero customer service now and will not give you the time of day at the slightest miscommunication. In my case regarding a simple cake order, their emails were going to my spam and I asked for a call back instead. When I did not receive it, I called the next day and instead of apologizing for a simple miscommunication and offering call back times, they doubled down with an attitude; were extremely condescending and said we were rude because we expressed frustration at the lack of a call back; made it seem like a favor that they even bothered to speak with me; and then hung up and ignored my calls! Hanging up because you don't want to deal with a customer's issue is the definition of rude! This is how a long time customer that gave 6+ years, referrals, and several thousands of dollars of business gets treated. This is absolutely not the way to run a business regardless of how busy you may be. read more

I now see why the rating for this bakery is where it's at- after 6 years of working with fluffy thoughts, I don't think I will be patronizing this establishment anymore. I have ordered all of my son's birthday cakes from here for the past 6 years (no cake was ever less than $200) and considered myself a very loyal customer. This year, the cake that was delivered was not one I would expect from a bakery of this caliber. The fondant had several flaws and the birthday message was crooked- now I understand that fondant will not always be perfect, but the cake I received looked like it was made by an amateur. I ordered an extra cupcake with the cake- I was overcharged for the cupcake and it wasn't ever delivered!!! Quality is something to be expected at these prices and unfortunately, it seems like it is no longer a priority at this bakery. read more

Lara, Fluffy Thoughts has become my family bakery. We've chosen your services to celebrate birthdays and graduations and have received compliments for the simplicity and sophistication of your designs and the delicious cakes we've picked. My husband has particularly loved the last one we had this week, a vanilla, buttercream and dulce de leche combination; the Hermes box. We appreciate your services in McLean and have spread the word to friends and acquaintances. It's a pleasure to see your business grow. Malú Costa and Mangueira family read more

Ordered coconut cupcakes for my sons birthday and they came out so delicious. The cake was light and fluffy with great flavoring. The frosting was good, too! Even better, they were able to provide a GF cupcake for our celiac family member so they could participate in birthday celebrations. They said it was "really good." read more

We were so absolutely thrilled with Fluffy Thoughts. Lara was really nice and responsive, and gave us a very reasonable price point for our dessert bar and cake. We decided to do a small 6-inch cake (pumpkin sponge with cinnamon buttercream, and beautiful fondant autumn leaves for decoration) along with our dessert bar (mini pumpkin pies, Nutella mini pop tarts, chocolate cake pops, vanilla cake pops, and raspberry Linzer cookies). Absolutely everything we tried was to die for. The execution we received the day of was amazing - and every one of our guests demolished the desserts - there was nothing left! We can't wait for our one year anniversary so we can go back and get a pumpkin cake in celebration :) read more

Do their custom cakes capture your idea perfectly? Are their cakes delicious? I wouldn't know because they lost the order for my daughter's first birthday cake, and they really didn't seem that upset by it. I exchanged a few emails with the owner, Lara, to discuss and finalize the cake design. She then asked that I call the bakery to place the formal order. I called, confirmed the order, agreed to a pick up time, and gave them my credit card information. When we went to pick up the cake at the agreed upon time, they had no record of the order. They said they couldn't make a cake in time for our party, and asked if we wanted to purchase one of their pre-made cakes, all of which were Halloween decorated (we were there after Halloween). Pay you for a days old Halloween cake to make up for the order you lost? No thanks. Who knows what happened to the order - and my credit card info! I understand mistakes happen, but their customer service needs some major improvement. read more

We used Fluffy Thoughts for our wedding and could not be an happier! Our wedding planners recommended Fluffy Thoughts and from our first tasting/design appointment I was blown away! The cake flavors were all so delicious and unique - we actually had a hard time deciding which we loved the most. The team worked very hard to complete sketches that matched our idea for our wedding cake design. Thankfully, they were also very flexible on my last minute addition of a groom's cake for my husband. On our wedding day I was so excited to see our cake! It was so gorgeous and so tasty!!! Our guests not only complimented us on the taste of the cake, but also the design!! Our big day was so much sweeter thanks to Lara and the entire Fluffy Thoughts team! read more

I had high expectations for this bakery. The pictures on ig are really nice. But they definitely only take their time with certain orders. Placing my order with Lara went smoothly however customer service on the day of pickup was horrible. The guy at the bakery was very rude, does not have any idea how to treat customers. If I'm paying $500+ for a cake I would definitely like to see it upon pick up. The cake had air bubbles all through the design and didn't not match the requested colors. The cake portion per person was also way off. Definitely going back to classic bakery in tysons. read more

My husband and I ate our entire wedding cake over the weekend. We know you are supposed to save the top tier for your first anniversary, but we literally couldn't wait to eat it again. We went pretty simple with vanilla cake and vanilla buttercream frosting, and it was the tastiest cake we've ever had in our lives. Lara was incredibly professional, timely, and attentive throughout the entire process. She particularly exceeded my expectations with the presentation, and it fit perfectly into the schemes of our wedding. We are trying to find an excuse for a special occasion so we can get another cake from Fluffy Thoughts! read more

Fluffy Thoughts Cakes - my wedding cake - Bakeries Near Me - McLean, Virginia

Fluffy Thoughts was the venue we used for our daughters wedding cake. The positives, the cake itself was exactly what our daughter had in mind. Also, they did a great job in delivering the cake on time. The not so good: It was very difficult to get in for a cake test. On the day of the testing it was an ok experience but as we were tight on time we decided to go with Fluffy Thoughts. Fluffy Thoughts was also very difficult to track down the details and gave our daughter a bit of the run around. On the actual day of the wedding, the cake was beautiful on the outside but a little dry on the inside. Wish we would have had a little more time to shop around but overall they did a solid job. read more

They really saw ME comin'....I contacted Fluffy Thoughts when my first and second choices couldn't come through (one left the business, the other never responded to my emails). They came with rave reviews from my first choice, so I figured they must be fantastic. Well...let's just say "not so much." While the cake was GORGEOUS in every way, and everything I wanted, two things left a bad taste in my mouth. First, the cake. It was a strawberry cake, but rather than being a soft, fluffy (and with their business name, you'd think their cakes would BE fluffy, right!?) and yummy cake, it was, well, hard. I watched as my guests took their first bite, and each and every one of them looked at each other and then at me. Well. If THAT doesn't tell you everything. When asked, they said, "Cristy, it's just a "dense" cake." Dense. The cake was stuffed with strawberry cream cheese, which was fine. The second thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was their attitude. I called them after my husband picked up the cake to ask if we should leave the cake out or refrigerate it until we cut it. They were sassy and rude over the phone, acting like they really couldn't be bothered. I'd never ordered a fondant cake before and just wanted everything to be perfect for my daughter's party. I guess there's a third thing that was the worst: the $150 price tag. Not one person ate their entire portion, in fact, I threw away many plates that had one bite taken off their slice. The second half of the cake is currently parked in my fridge and has been for 2 days. Maybe I should freeze it and use it as a door stop. Or drive a handle into it and use it as a sledgehammer. But I wouldn't even have to freeze it for THAT to work. I want my money back. read more

Meh... I really really had (probably too) high expectations for this place. It was in my favorite town and not too far from work. Being such a cupcake freak (I am THE official cupcake fan of the DMV), I'm all about trying out any place that serves my favorite baked treats....cupcakes! Being Cupcakes Antonio, I had to order the following assortment: - 1 red velvet - 1 chocolate cake with peanut butter butter cream - 1 vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream Here's my own fluffy *ahem* MANLY thoughts about Fluffy Thoughts: First impression, all of the cupcakes' cake seemed a bit too dense for my liking. It wasn't too sweet which was a great thing as it paired well with the sweetness of the frosting. Surprisingly, I wasn't a big fan of the red velvet which had a bit of an odd aftertaste which thanks to my foodie wife she helped me figure out it was cinnamony-mon. The chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting was a bit better. After all, how can you go wrong with chocolate an peanut butter? The flavors were well balanced and definitely better than the red velvet. The vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream was just okay and didn't wow me. I just couldn't get over the denseness of the cake of all three cupcakes and kept comparing them to both Baked and Wired and Alexandria Cupcakes. I really really wanted to like...nay...LOVE Fluffy Thoughts but I was let down like a little kid that finds out Santa Claus is just a fat overpaid dude with whiskey breath. Now I'm a generous fat boy and will definitely give Fluffy Thoughts another chance in the hopes that I caught them on an off day. Did I mention I really want to like this place? :-/ read more

I had a cake made from here for my engagement party. We went in and they scheduled an appointment where we could try the different cakes and fillings-- the picture in my profile is of my cousin and I at the tasting. The cake tasted amazing and looked amazing, but it was expensive and it was charged like a wedding cake. If you're looking to pay over $1000, look no further--- this is a great bakery. But if you're looking for something a bit more reasonable, maybe look elsewhere. read more

Twice, I have had a bad experience with Fluffy thoughts. once when they canceled on my daughters first year birthday cake a week before after completing a tasting and finalizing all details with them at the shop !!! Second time, I ordered a cake for my husbands birthday, and despite requesting them to explicitly keep down the sweet level and being assured that the cake would not be sweet. it was sooo crazy sweet, imagine having to dump a $90 plus dollar basic small birthday cake after the first bite! I could I've just picked up anything for the shelf at a bakery and it would've been much better. On another note, I am glad they didn't do my daughters first birthday cake since my husbands birthday cake was such a flop and we had invited people for my daughters. Won't bother going there again read more

Don't trust your cake will be made! I ordered my birthday cake by phone two days in advance. My order was confirmed and I received a receipt. Wow! Tough crowd here on Yelp, coming down kind of hard on Fluffy Thoughts! Cupcakes have such a happy connotation, I can't imagine having *that* bad of a cupcake experience. I can only report my own experiences with Fluffy Thoughts, which have been excellent. I will preface this review with noting that I do NOT enjoy writing reviews that aren't five stars. :-( And while I wanted to love this place, I didn't have the best experience. Let me explain... The cupcakes are good. Nice size. Not too pricey. Flavorful etc. I first had them at a birthday party for my coworker's daughter. It was then I bookmarked them and was determined to check them out. Finally, one Friday I did. I walked in and I was the only customer. The gentleman behind the counter didn't greet me. He was on his computer or phone - whatever it was it seemed more important than having a customer in the store. They had a few options but not a ton on this day. Lemon, Chocolate, Vanilla - the usual suspects. The guy never asked me if I had any questions etc, so I went for it and ordered a lemon and a chocolate. There was no small talk etc. In fact, another guy came in and asked about the payment of another customer and they started talking among themselves like I wasn't there. For me, customer service is EVERYTHING even if your product isn't the best. I wanted to love this place, but the customer service sucked! I waited some time before I wrote this review because I've heard great things. I'm not opposed to trying them again; however, I'm not in the area any more. I just would not go out of my way to have the same experience. Meh.. read more

I was expecting this place to be much better considering all the hype with their Food Network appearance. Also, our wedding caterer suggested them because of some apple bacon cake they made. When we scheduled a tasting, I think we sat with the owner and she was just running through the motions, but she was really only excited when she was talking about her Food Network appearance. I know she probably gets a lot of soon-to-be brides and grooms, but she had very little enthusiasm, which did not bode well for the kind of relationship we might have with them for our big day. They give you a bunch of different cakes, a bunch of different icings and some fillers to try to put a cake together on your own. I guess that is kind of fun for some people, but I preferred to have those options given to me rather than try to select them on my own....I mean that is why you're going to a professional, right? The cake itself was really dry and the cake was significantly overpriced based on a bunch of other bakeries we went to with much better tasting cakes and simpler processes. Also, we really wanted a butter cream icing, but she said we could not do this based on the cake decoration we wanted. Not true. We ended up getting that design with the vendor we chose. They must just not be very good with using anything other than fondant to make a gorgeous cake. We ended up going with Edibles Incredible. Try them!! They are absolutely amazing. Feel free to read my review on them! Their cupcakes are really pretty and I have gotten some of them using Groupons, but I would not pay full price for them. Again, they were dry and uninspired. I have also gotten cupcakes from Cupcake Actually who also runs Groupons or Living Social, and they are much better. I have brought both to birthday parties and Cupcakes Actually is always the winner! read more

After reading the great reviews I considered this to be a very promising small bakery for a cupcake fix. I picked up today's special, Tiramisu, and a Red Velvet. To be perfectly frank, the Tiramisu wasn't bad, but it could have used more flavor. The good news was that it had a nice not too sweet delicate taste. The Red Velvet was so sweet it was like a Costco cake. They were both decent, but that's as much as I'll concede. read more

Took the kids and stopped by for some cupcakes today. A cute little shop with enticing looking cupcakes. We bought chocolate peanut butter, chocolate chip cookie, and cookies and cream. The cake itself was a bit dry (I'm a baker myself, so I am a little picky about things) but tasty. The frostings? Even the kids said they were too sweet! Wow. I like my sweets, but the frosting was over the top. When sweets are over the top for a 16 year old who never met a chocolate anything she didn't like and an 11 year old who thinks that nerds would be an awesome breakfast cereal, that's something. I like to support local businesses, but I'm not a big fan. I have had much worse (including my own baking fails, so I am empathetic.) But the frosting really didn't work for me. read more

Two point five for you, Fluffy. Presentation was good (that is until I thought it would be a smart idea to go hands free and put my thoughtfully gifted box of cupcakes in my purse for a little bit...oops!) Good presentation is key; But if it doesn't look or smell good why am I going to put it in my mouth? When it does make it to my mouth, sure it doesn't matter what it looks like then, it's all going to the same place. The red velvet and tiramisu did make the voyage from out of the box and into my mouth and that's when my mental review began to take place. I'm glad that Fluffy knew what's up when it came to frosting a red velvet: cream cheese frosting only. Despite this, I think they haven't quite nailed the consistency but are so very close. As for the cake itself, I think they may have gone a little over with the coco or just didn't add enough red dye because this red velvet was on the browner side. Topped with half a lady finger, the tiramisu definitely got more cute points compared to the red velvet. The frosting was good and the cake, just okay. Something was missing. I've had a tiramisu cupcake before and it was much better than this one. Based on this experience, I wouldn't ever crave a Fluffy cake but if I'm around and let's say...Fluffy Thoughts was around...and I happened to have a cupcake craving, I'd swing by to give them another chance. read more

Lara did an AMAZING job for our children's birthday party! To say the cake was a work of art is an understatement. I emailed her a photo of cake we saw online a few weeks ago and she not only replicated it, she produced an even better version. ***2.5*** I really wanted to love this place. My cousin got her wedding and groom cake from here last year, and they tasted great and decided to try it when I was around the area yesterday. The gal behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. I asked her suggestions on some cupcakes and picked up a peanut butter chocolate, samoa and red velvet for me and the bf... Unfortunately, they were all dry...and the frosting too sweet. It may be because they don't frost the entire cupcake, so the unfrosted sides may be dried out...but then I bit into the blondie I bought the bf, also very dry. We decided not to waste our calories...They added sea salt to the top of it,which was a nice touch, but geesh...maybe I came on a bad day. I also ordered a hot chocolate for my trip home, which was delicious...just not sure about this place, but will give it another try... read more

Cupcakes are ok but consistency is a bit of an issue, sometimes they're fluffy, sometimes they are stale/dry. They charge $0.50 per box for the cupcake boxes which is a downer. There is a lot of variety in not just cupcakes but also blondies, brownies, shortbread cookies, gingerbread cookies, cakes, mini cupcakes and macaroons. But I must mention that the one girl that usually works the counter always has dirt under her fingernails. Eww... read more

I busted my designer cupcake cherry just last night! My friend brought over four in a box as a birthday gift to himself and being one of those cautious and thoughtful eaters (he nibbles on stuff like a lady), he tore into these with a passion! We consumed all four in about ten minutes or less. His favorite is the carrot cake but I admonished him for being silly because Red Velvet ruled!. I also warned him that if he didn't bring over a box for MY birthday, we were never speaking again. read more

I've had both wedding cakes and cupcakes from Fluffy Thoughts. The wedding cake is so-so at best. It's sort of dry and the filling isn't very tasty. The wedding cake I saw also had noticeable flaws in the fondant work. That being said, the cupcakes at Fluffy Thoughts are just delightful. They are on the smaller size ... which is a good thing because it enables you to eat more than one! The icing is more buttery than sugary. I prefer the other way around, but it works very well with taste of the cake. I had the red velvet, cannoli, and "cupcake of the week" during my visit. The red velvet was nice ... frosting was spot on. The cannoli tasted just like a cannoli. The "COTW" was a marble cake filled with caramel and topped with vanilla buttercream and sprinkled with chocolate crunchies. Yep, it was as good as it sounds :-D Bottom line ... Skip the cakes, go for the cupcakes! read more

I'm signed up to Living Social's daily e-mails, but never purchase anything. I love it when they send e-mails for $10 off your first purchase, which can often equate to getting $20 worth of food for free. This is how I came to Fluffy Thoughts Cakes for the first time, as I jumped at the chance to get $20 worth of cupcakes for free. I ordered 8 cupcakes, at $3 each, so I was ready to pay a $4 difference. $4 for 8 cupcakes isn't bad. Because I failed to read anything in the store but the names of all the amazing cupcake flavors, I didn't see the sign that there is a minimum order of $10 for all credit card charges. Damn. I never carry cash. I immediately asked if there was an ATM nearby, but then I decided that by the time I paid an ATM fee, I would only be a few more dollars away from having spent $10, so I might as well just buy more cupcakes. I'm cheap enough to wait for freebies from Living Social, but not cheap enough to ask the employee to put back two cupcakes to make my order under $20. I should have been that cheap, because these cupcakes were really not worth the $10 I ended up spending. These cupcakes had the crispiest top I've ever seen. They were like cookies! The inside of the cupcake was relatively dry and flavorless, and the saving grace of all the cupcakes, (or at least the 4 flavors that I tried) was that they all had fillings in the centers, which helped disguise the flavorless cake. I tried the Rosey, Smores, Cookies & Cream, and something with peanut butter, and eagerly gave the other 6 cupcakes to my friend, sharing the disclaimer that they honestly weren't that good, but I had a Living Social coupon to use. Out of the four flavors I tried, Smores was my favorite, as I love a graham cracker crusted bottom, but the chocolate cake in the peanut butter flavor was the least dry of my cupcakes. I will never be back for four reasons in order of importance: 1) Your cupcakes aren't good. 2) Your location is too far for my non-driving self. 3) The fact that I usually never buy more than two cupcakes at a time, combined with the fact that I never carry cash, makes your $10 minimum order on cupcakes unsuitable for my needs 4) You didn't have a bag for me to carry my two boxes of cupcakes in I will note that the customer service was great!!! read more

It's clear this place positions itself primarily as a wedding cake shop. The little tasting room is a dead giveaway. Also, when we visited, a high-maintenance bride-to-be making changes to her cake order at the counter made a quick stop-in for a couple cupcakes a 20 minute affair. Why couldn't the other person behind the counter help those of us waiting in line to buy a cupcake? Now, on to the cupcakes. If you know me (and you probably don't) I have a sweet tooth which is out of control. So, it's a big deal when I say that the specialty chocolate chip cookie cupcake I got was over the top sweet. It was the only cupcake I've ever had with a cookie crust at the bottom - too much. It did taste like a chocolate cookie though, so I'll give 'em props for that. And, hey, it was a cupcake, so how bad could it be? read more

SamThe fiance and I went here to do a cake tasting and I was not too impressed. Don't get me wrong, the service was fairly good. We arrived 5 minutes before our meeting time and they were not quite ready. One of the workers was polite enough to inform us they had a rush of people and was unable to set up on time. They offered us coffee while we waited for them to set up. Like I said, the service was fairly decent. One thing I did not like at all, was the fact she kept saying "if this is out of your budget". I didn't tell them what my budget was. The assumptions are disappointing. I know I'm very handsome and handsome people are broke, that this is not always the case. (I joking, but seriously though!!) When the tasting commenced (I like that word), they presented us with the cakes that we told them we would like to try along with about 8 different toppings (cream cheese icing, etc). The presentation was phenomenal. To me, the yellow cake with the cream cheese icing and caramel was good. Unfortunately, my fiance was not at all impressed. read more

We came across Fluffy Thoughts for our wedding 10 years ago and were so pleased with our cake selection for our special day and we had been loyal customers ever since, ordering anniversary cakes, birthday cakes, picking up cupcakes and cookies if we were in the area, and always recommending the bakery with such high regard. When we wanted to celebrate a milestone birthday, we didn't hesitate to place our order for our usual cake with Fluffy Thoughts. Unfortunately, the area received a major snow storm the day we had to pick up the birthday cake. We called and called and emailed the store to pick up the cake on our scheduled pickup date which happened to be the day of the birthday celebration and nobody answered. The roads were pretty bad and we had to use a family member's truck to get to the shop to find out it wasn't open. The storm had been in the forecast for a week and being in the business where you are making cakes for special occasions, you would think there would be a process in place to reach out to clients to address picking up their orders or notifying them of the delay. The entire day went by and we were never contacted by Fluffy Thoughts and we had to purchase a cake from another place for the birthday celebration. The following day there was hardly any acknowledgement of how their unexpected closure and not contacting their customers impacted us and our celebration and very little effort made to make it right. We asked if the cake could be delivered to us, albeit the celebration was over, but we still really wanted the cake that we so very much loved, and that wasn't possible for whatever reason. We weren't able to drive to the shop again after our first attempt. After a lot of back and forth the concession by Fluffy Thoughts was to refund us the money and provide us with a $25 gift card for a future purchase. That really didn't sit well with us. We not only wanted the cake for the celebration, but also wanted to enjoy the cake we so loved and they wouldn't deliver it to us to make it right. Four days after the birthday we called to discuss how unhappy we were being long time loyal customers and what would really make this whole situation right would be to give us the cake for free. Their response was we could come and pick up the week old cake and that was the best they were going to do. We told them they have lost long term clients and they didn't care. I would never use them again. When you are in the business of customer service and delivering goods that are the centerpiece of celebrations that happen on a specific date you would think they would be better equipped to handle the unexpected (or forecasted snow storm) and if and when something goes wrong they'd be more willing to make things right with their clients. Our 10 year relationship with Fluffy Thoughts is over and we will go out of our way to make sure our network knows to never use Fluffy Thoughts. read more

I purchased about a dozen cupcakes here for a birthday party, in various flavors. I was impressed with the menu variety - they had everything from Red Velvet to S'mores flavor options. The location is small, with an attractive build-out, and (I believe) a table or two for dining. Mostly they are set up for take-out. I enjoyed the cupcakes, but like many reviewers thought the frosting was great and the cake was just OK. I wouldn't go out of my way for Fluffy Thoughts, but if I'm in the neighborhood and happen to have a sweet tooth, I will definitely stop by again. read more
