Wanted to try Fluffy fresh donuts based on the positive reviews here, but they were sold out at 9 am when I showed up. Their hours on Sunday are 6am til Noon. Sold out at 9?! I shouldn't have to get up at 6am on Sunday to get a donut. Poor customer service to be out of product 3 hours before closing. If fluffy fresh is in the business of selling donuts, they might want to try actually making some! Bottom line - unless you plan on getting there before sunrise, go somewhere else. read more

I have past this place for four years and never stopped in. My hubby who has lived here all his life said that was the place to go in high school, I didn't even know the name of the place. Was craving a donut one day and stopped in, dingy place, hole in the wall kinda joint, but good donuts. I am not a fan of all the icing, but the glazed are awesome, so was the cake spiced. You may have gathered from the other reviews that Fluffy Fresh has excellent donuts. And, likely, that they sell out early, and they only take cash. If anything is known of Fluffy Fresh, it is these three facts. You could probably strike up a conversation with someone in a pub in Scotland, mention you live in Mission, and there's a chance that they'd say, "Oh, isn't there that donut place there with excellent donuts but they sell out early and they only take cash?" So I'm not imparting any new knowledge here, I realize. But something you may not know--the shop owners are really, really, nice. I was excited yesterday (Sunday morning) to get there about 9 AM and find they still had donuts left. Yay! Happy day! They only had nine glazed donuts, but I take my triumphs where I can. I'm not usually a huge raised donut fan, preferring cake donuts, but their raised donuts are good enough to make me change my mind on that. (Plus my wife loves raised donuts and isn't a fan of cake donuts, so, you know, whatever makes my wife happy.) I bought all nine--we took a half-dozen to friends, lest you think I was a giant pig. I was chatting with the woman who runs the counter, and she gave me a discount because they didn't have a full dozen for me. Then she offered me free coffee. I mean, they were shutting down right after me, but still, she was very nice and friendly. I've also talked with the guy who primarily works in the back--I don't know if they're a husband and wife team or just co-workers, but I like to imagine them as the Mom and Pop of the mom-and-pop operation--and he was just as pleasant. I overheard one customer get very rude and belligerent when he found out that he couldn't use a credit card to pay for his one donut, and Pop, as I now like to call him, handled it without getting angry. (I would have beaten him with a dough paddle, shouting "THERE IS A BIG SIGN RIGHT AS YOU COME IN SAYING CASH ONLY!") So, yeah, warm fuzzy feelings for the place. read more

When I told the owners it was my first time there, they replied "first ones on the house." They are so nice and friendly I don't know why anyone would go anywhere else. I have been going here my whole life, and it has remained as great as my memory serves that entire time. Some of my earliest memories are of getting donut holes with my Mom. The long-johns are some of the best I have ever had anywhere, ever. Come early because once they are gone they are gone. Whoa, now.... it's not really 5 Stars..... But I guess for most people the difference between 4 and 5 stars isn't much. It's definitely worth trying. But listen, YOU MUST GET THERE AT DAWN for a half decent selection. THe thing that irritates me the most about this place is that it there is essentially NOTHING left after about 800 on a weekday and about 730 on a Sunday. You might go in there at a decent hour for a dozen donuts and there will only be 7 available..... seriously. My hand to god, I have only seen a jelly-filled in there once and really, they use better jelly at Krispy The donuts are NOT so life changing that I have ever been there at 7am but after the EARLY hours of the morning there will be NO selection. Glazed and cinnamon twists if yer lucky. and although they are very good, its mostly because they are selling them after they are barely cooled enough to glaze. Any donut is a 4 star if it's only been out of the fryer for five minutes. Lamars is literally just a block up the street and although Lamars is an inferior donut, if they were that fresh, they'd be just about as good as Fluffy Fresh. I have been to Fluffy enough times to find the twists a little tough a couple times. They are good but there's just a guy back there frying dough, not some kind of mad scientist, he's not 100% consistent. Go early your first time, so the trip's not wasted if you show up at 815 and they are sold out. They WILL take plastic, everyone saying "cash only" is wrong. It was definitely handmade, light, and it really does have that slight crunch when you bite into it. We moved here in Oct of 2000. My first Fluffy Fresh was in the spring of 2001. A treat on the way to the zoo with my 5 children. WOW we were so amazed and very pleased to find such fabulous donuts. Over the years I have learned more about the business and was extremely impressed to find out they are ALL handmade! He makes his own, generations old family recipe, for the mouth watering goodness called CHOCOLATE on the long johns. A couple of coworkers recommended this place so I decided to give it a try. Got here around 6:30am so I was expecting a lot to select from and a lot of freshness. Not that much variety but I certainly found some donuts I thought I'd enjoy. I went with a regular glazed, chocolate long john, cinnamon twist, and a chocolate frosted cake donut. Everything was pretty dry. I was a bit disappointed. Nothing stood out. The cinnamon twist was probably the best out of the bunch but even then it was nothing special.The price point was great though. read more

I am so lucky to live right by this place. This place is AMAZING. I've had so many different popular donuts - Lamar's, Krispy Kreme, various grocery store bakery donuts... this beats them all. It truly does. The glazed donuts, god, they're to die for! You'll be paying about the same as a Krispy Kreme dozen for bigger, fresher donuts. These donuts are massive. Amazing glaze, crispy outside, and that perfect melt-in-your-mouth dough. They aren't too dense or overly chewy. Despite Krispy Kreme being massed produced, most people love them for how melty and sweet they are. These donuts BEAT THEM and I love Krispy Kreme. They taste so fresh. I highly suggest going as close to opening time as possible (6:30am)! These donuts sell out faster than any donut place I've seen. They often have a pretty empty case by 8:30! It is tempting to give fluffy fresh a 4-star review. After all, it could be better. The guy that makes the donuts is the crankiest donut God you'll ever meet; they could both be less grouchy. They could expand and hire another cook so they wouldn't be sold out by 8:30. There could be a couple little tables outside and they could bail on the cash-only nonsense. It is a place that is lacking in many ways. But for all this, oh sweet hairy crackers their donuts are out of this freaking world. If they're worth running out of the house on 3 hours of sleep with mismatched shoes, bed head, and funky morning breath, worth an extra trip to the bank or a scouring of couch cushions and pants pockets for loose coins and singles, worth being stared at with a not-actually-patient glare or snapped at for not calling in the previous night, then they're absolutely worth 5 stars. This wonderful little shop has the best donuts, in the entire KC metro area "more likely the entire midwest" hands down, and I have not had any other donuts from any other places that could convince me otherwise yet. If you are looking for nasty factory produced donuts that haven't been touched by human hands, and are pumped out by the dozen from machines....Then go down the street to nasty Krispy Creme, or Lamars and stay out of my Fluffy Fresh! The two owners get up at midnight, and start making their donuts from SCRATCH for the day ahead, and if you think only two people can make so many donuts then you would be correct. Unless you call ahead you must get there at 6:00 a.m sharp!! They will already be almost out of donuts any later than 7:30 a.m thats how good they are! Very friendly place. But get in, get your heavenly donuts and get out! Not any room for sitting and looking out the window, but who needs to when you will immediately want to get back in your car, and start munching on the best donuts around.
