My sister, her friend from high school, and several other girls that I know came to Flowers by Emil for their wedding day needs. My now husband and I came here for a consultation, and then came back again to complete mini bouquets of what I would receive, and what my bridesmaids would receive. That was incredibly fun! Whether you come here to talk to Phyllis or Carmine, you can be rest assured, that your flowers will be the peak of bloom, and be absolutely breathtaking. My twelve centerpieces were submerged cherry blossoms in water in their tall cylinder vases with pink rocks at the bottom, and then a floating candle placed on top. Talk about classy, simple elegance! These looked like a million bucks, and we got compliments all night as to how gorgeous they were. More importantly, our guests appreciated that they weren't too elaborate as to blocking their view of the dance floor and other guests at their tables. My wedding bouquet of peonies, pink roses, white calla lillies, and white hydrangeas lasted the whole night, and then some! Right afterwards, I put my bouquet in my refrigerator, and it stayed perfectly for another two weeks!! No browning! Yes, the hydrangeas didn't last as long, but the other flowers were perfectly untouched. I was taking the bouquet in and out of the fridge just to smell them; it was so nice. Phyllis was even able to add six brooches that I had strong sentimental value to, by wiring them into my bouquet! It added a nice touch of glittery glam without overpowering the natural beauty of the flowers. Pricing was fair and reasonable, and they made me feel at ease knowing this was one less thing I didn't need to worry about. Thank you for making our day special. read more

I went by to buy two bouquets for my family for Mother's Day. The flowers and bouquet were beautiful but I wanted to make sure every customer is aware of this: I bought three flowers for each bouquet and since I saw the prices of each flower I need exactly how much I should be paying. When it came time to pay they charged me double the price so I had to sit down with the person and show them each calculation of each flower. I'm giving them the benefit of doubt that they just simply don't remember the prices on the top of their head TLDR: please make sure you calculate your own bouquet or else they will overcharge you read more

Do not buy from this place. I ordered the dances with me bouquet with roses standard edition. First they deliver at 6:30 at night. When the flowers arrive they look like a 5 year old put them together. They are not full like the picture. It is half the vase. Most of the roses aren't even bloomed and a few were dead that one actually fell off. I contacted them and spoke to a Phyllis and all she could tell me was they looked fine when they were sent and the send more noon bloomed to last longer. I understand you want them to last but to send the majority not bloomed is not attractive. She then told me the arrangements will not look like the picture. Are you kidding me. I paid for that and was promised that. I will never order from here again. read more

Liars and thieves!!!!!...!!!!!!!! Came here for Mother's Day to get flowers. Our total as per the cashier/owner was $18. I saw that the sign said $20 minimum for credit cards. I said it out loud and the cashier said "it's fine." We figured it would be "fine" and not get charged a fee. What shows up on our credit card statement was $21.77, so we did get charged a fee after he looked me in my face and said "it's fine!" It's all about Principle here; don't lie to us about the price and then charge us something different. And we threw away the receipt because we figured "IT WAS FINE." read more

Ordered flowers for Mother's Day to be delivered THE DAY BEFORE ON Saturday. They were not delivered, so I called Sunday at noon and was assured they would be delivered in 10-15 minutes, not sure how they would accomplish this timeframe. I waited and waited no flowers and I am writing this review @ 10pm Sunday evening still no flowers delivered for Mother's Day. This is the second time using this florist and the first time was not a great experience either, late in the day delivery and below average presentation and the flowers were not very fresh they only lasted a few days and my wife knows how to care for flowers very well. I won't give Emil a third opportunity to underwhelm or disappoint the love of my life. You don't deserve my business Emil nor do you respect this customer. read more

I got married in Sept 2012. Flower by Emil took care of our decoration needs and exceeded our expectations. We had 10 tables, a main table, a chupah outside, 10 bouquets and more and they only charged us 2000$ for orchids, roses, candles, branches, crystals and peacock feathers. Ordered the Flower Fields in a Mason Jar online really last minute and selected same day pickup. I was worried that it wouldn't be ready on time but good thing on their order page there was a comments box and I let them know what time I needed the flowers to be ready by. They actually sent me an email response early in the day letting me know my order was confirmed and reassured me that it would be ready before my requested time. I thought I appreciated that promptness and effective communication the most. Little did I know they went above and beyond for me too when I saw the arrangement! (I had also made a small inquiry to see if it was possible to make the sunflowers stand out more and whether the accompanying flowers in the arrangement could be changed to purple color instead of pink. The recipient loves sunflowers and also the color purple). And they made the arrangement exactly what I wanted or even better! They came out so beautiful! Flowers By Emil and Phillis were amazing! If I had to pick one vendor that was the best value, they would be it. Their flowers are gorgeous andthe quality of their service is impeccable. I went to several florists for my wedding since I was a nervous bride. All I knew was that I did not want roses. Phyllis sat with me and my fiance several times and put together different arrangements of flowers to ensure that's what I really wanted. She was so patient with me since I had no clue what I wanted and couldn't make a decision. They always sent flowers home with me each time I went. At Flowers By Emil, they will make your centerpiece for you before your wedding and you will be able to make little tweaks based on what you see to ensure you are getting exactly what you want. All the other florists I went to, only showed me pictures and wanted to charge me double the price. If I wanted to see the centerpiece before the wedding at the other florists, I would have had to pay $100+. I got the most beautiful flowers with Flowers By Emil. My bridesmaid said that a stranger thought that her bridesmaid bouquet was for the bride because it was so beautiful. Phyllis was always very responsive and I didn't have to remind her to do anything the days leading up to the wedding. Everything was there on time and exactly how we discussed. I even asked her last minute to decorate my cake with some flowers and to get some flowers to put in my hair. They set up everything perfectly and even had a back up boutonniere for my fiance in case it wilted during picture taking. I can't say enough about Flowers By Emil. This review is hard to write because I really want to like Flowers by Emil..... but have trouble really doing so. There are a lot of positive things to say about this florist. We had booked them for our wedding and dealt with Carmine throughout the process. We had seen a centerpiece that we liked online, emailed the picture to Carmine and he got back to us with a price that was significantly less than what other florists in the area wanted. It felt that we were getting a lot more for less with Flowers by Emil. They were attentive and took time to amend designs to create exactly what we wanted. They were classy, made a complimentary bouquet for my bride every time we visited. A few weeks before the wedding they had made the trial centerpiece and it was exactly what we wanted. It looked stunning. We could not be happier. A few days before the wedding we were contacted and told that they would drop off the bridal bouquet at the hotel and then go to the venue to set up the centerpieces and the chuppah but would like to get full compensation at the hotel. I did not feel comfortable paying the full balance without seeing the final product. So, I offered to drive on the day of the wedding to the venue 5 hours prior to the start of the ceremony to see the finished product and pay them. This is where it gets a tad unpleasant. Once I arrived at the wedding venue I noticed that the purple stock that was part of our centerpieces was "soft" as carmine would later describe. I would call that wilted but Carmine later insisted that wilted means its dead brown while soft means it is simply getting there. Anyway, I was disappointed and called Carmine to rectify the situation. I was explained that it was 90 degree weather (though these flowers shouldn't have spent any time outside) and that they look a tad soft and if I didn't like it they can either take all the flowers back (no flowers during the wedding) or they can take out the purple stock and replace it with white oleanders that they had on hand. Obviously I was forced to go with the second option. In the end the centerpieces looked good but not the way that we originally envisioned and not as awesome as on the trial run. What upsets me isn't that there was a problem with the purple stock but the fact that I wasn't notified about it when it occurred. Had I paid the florist at the hotel, the issue with the stock would not be discovered until we entered the dining room with guests on our wedding. This does not seem like a professional way to treat the customer. At the end Carmine agreed to refund $70 (5.5% of total cost of contract) which is what he said the cost of the purple stock was. On the one hand its commendable that he refunded anything but on the other hand this really was not sufficient compensation given the amount of stress and grief the florist created on the day of the wedding. Given other positive reviews, I would like to think that this was an out of the ordinary occurrence. read more

Wedding flowers review: Phyllis was wonderful to work with and, while Flowers by Emil is a bit further away than some of the other florists we looked at, it was worth the extra subway commute to visit her for arrangements. We were looking to do a more "DIY" type of set up, so we sourced a lot of the containers and Phyllis provided the flowers/greenery. I came ready with some printed photos as a starting point for what I wanted the flowers to look like and, she took those ideas and improved up them. What I appreciated most about Phyllis is that she gave me honest feedback about the design - even if it meant the final quote would be less. She wants you to be happy and for the arrangements to look great; there's no "upselling" here that I felt with other florists we got quotes from. Phyllis was on site the day of to set everything up to ensure that it met our vision. My only comment is that Flowers by Emil, being a Bay Ridge flower shop primarily that also will create arrangements for special events and weddings, their vase/container/votive selection is a bit more limited than if you went with one of the "trendier" (and more expensive) florists in Brooklyn. If you're going for a more traditional look, this won't be a problem for your wedding and I anticipate you would be fine with their options, but if you're going a bit more avant garde you may have to source some of the containers yourself. Even with us sourcing the materials, the final cost was still much more affordable than if we went with one of the other vendors we looked at and I couldn't have been happier with the end result. read more

Flowers By Emil provided bouquets, corsages and boutineers for our Wedding, and decorated both our church, (downtown Brooklyn) and our catering hall, (Woodbury, LI). And, what a marvelous job they did! Carmine has such a passion for what he does! That is one man who truly found his perfect place in life. He saved me a ton of money by being completely honest, (which I appreciated thoroughly). All of the flowers I was interested in were Spring flowers, but Yianni and I were getting married in mid-July. Carmine told me what was impossible and what was possible but would cost me 3x as much as it would have during the Spring. MAN, was that helpful! Instead of smiling and taking as much money as he could from me, he sat my now-husband and I down, and went through book after book, and idea after idea, until we came up with not only my favorite flower colors, (yellow and orange) but also the correct flowers for the season and a price that was so reasonable, I asked him to go over the contract with me no less than three times, while wondering where the loophole was. THERE WAS NO LOOPHOLE! :) A few months later, when Yianni and I returned to ask about centerpieces for our tables, Carmine once again broke out the books, the advice and he gave us an incredible price. I had a very bad experience with this flower shop. I ordered a flower arrangement for my mother's birthday. What they delivered was completely different than what I had ordered online. I found out when I got home in the evening. The nasty owner said he will pick up the flowers back and refund back. How can I do that to my mom on her birthday? He doesn't even offer any apology instead of cursing and yelling at my friend who tried to me to talk to them as I was so upset. I got married 8/2013 and Flowers by Emil did our chuppah, centerpieces, bridal bouguet and the bridal parties flowers. Not only were they very patient with me and my mom during the consultation but the day of the wedding as well. I loved the small touches from i got to take home a mini bouquet and mini centerpiece during the consultation to that on the wedding day we had told them the wrong number of bridesmaids and they made a bouquet on the spot for her. It was great that they stayed through the chuppah to make sure everything was just perfect. The price was on target and we got the freshest flowers. Staff is easy to work with.
