Sweet patient staff. I must say however that I was very disappointed in the amount of open space and dearth of vibrant color in this upcharged deluxe bouquet. I would definitely suggest asking them to point out a photo to you of what they intend to send. I pointed out some very lush bouquets here on Yelp and paid more than those cost asking for something more deluxe for an artistic person. I also said there had been a death in the family and asked for some white in the arrangement. I could see adding in these flowers along with a lot of green and I was told mostly ranunculus. I count a few ranunculus here. I was not expecting more spare for the $$. I realize this could be from a lack of communication, but this piece here does not say lush deluxe bouquet for someone who had lost a close relative, but with an artistic touch. My heart sank when I saw it. Perhaps when the flowers open more it will seem like more? They were very sweet and patient with the wording on the tag and delivery schedule. Just ask for evidence of what they will be sending before you choose. I really feel three stars for the bouquet but gave an extra star for the great service. read more

I ordered a baby boy bouquet for my sister's new arrival, explicitly stating it's for a boy so green, white, blue flowers would be great. We agreed on a price of $100 + delivery fee. I asked for the delivery on Friday and said our Mother would be there all day to accept and they have a doorman, so should be an easy drop off. As of 6pm the flowers still hadn't arrived, so I called to check in and they stated they didn't deliver because my sister didn't answer her phone (she just had her baby and is in the hospital). After again explaining that my sister is in the hospital and that my Mom was there all day, they finally delivered the flowers. The flowers sent were white and pink, opposite of my request, and it was very skimpy for the price. I thought there was a mix up, but the card was correct. I called to express my concerns and the florist's response was, "We don't view flowers as gender specific here and those were the most beautiful." Umm, the flowers weren't for you and I explicitly said blues, greens, and whites. Why would a florist ever think that doing the opposite of the client's request would be acceptable?! A bit of pink with blues and greens would have been ok, but the only color added was pink!!! For reference, here's a picture of a $100 baby boy bouquet. Might want to think twice before working with a company that doesn't listen to their clients and won't deliver surprise flowers unless the recipient answers the phone or calls back. Please be careful when buying on holidays such as Mother's Day. I was told that because prices are higher per flower, the arrangement will be different i.e. not as bountiful. What I got were sad, thin arrangements -- one with only barely open peony and two closed. The excuses and confrontational attitude by the lady who arranged my flowers were bountiful, though! I am embarrassed I spent $164 on two arrangements that I could have bought at the many other beautiful shops in Brooklyn. To top it all off: they were wrapped in tacky neon ribbons. Yuck! This shop is the absolute greatest. The flowers are amazingly unique and Delgis & her staff (& her minecraft loving cashier) have an amazing eye for creating truly stunning bouquets. They also have a tendency to have long-lasting flowers & plants in stock so that even as your more delicate blooms fall apart & end up in the trash, you'll have something beautiful left in your home for 2-3 weeks. I've gotten bouquets at everything from $20-$100 and every one is made with the same care & sharp eye. I really can't recommend this store enough. My only note is that you may not find the sort of stuff is always in more generic stores - but that's perfect for my tastes. read more

Stem is an extraordinary, tiny flower shop with gorgeous blooms--listen, all flowers are lovely but don't expect a Urban-Bodega or Farmer's Market or Suburban-Nursery & Landscaper's vibe here. Stem is as much about the experience of being in the perfect flower shop as it is about perfect flowers. Key points to remember: the aesthetics of the shop are serene and elegant; the product is thoughtfully chosen; the arrangements are modern--meaning not FTD or 1-800 style but along the lines of that modern "natural state" vibe that means if woodland nymphs--aka dryads--made bouquets (but maybe they wouldn't because wouldn't cutting down your flower sisters and brothers might be a little like murder?) they would look like those designed by Stem. Before I go on, may I sidebar a bit about cut flowers? Thanks. A cut flower is an impermanent entity. And, we know that the depreciation value of a flower eclipses that of a car--because guys, a cut flower IS DECAYING AS IT RESTS PRETTILY. Kind of like a steak or a piece of fish. Decomposition to complete slime and goop is inevitable. There is nothing you can do to bring cut flowers "back to life" (except be sure to know how often to change the vase water, if at all; and how to properly trim the stem ends, if at all). Indoor heat, dryness, humidity and cold all impact and differently drive cut flower decomposition rates, as you might imagine. Some cut blooms are studier than others, whilst some blooms are incredibly delicate. * I always ask a florist to tell me when the flowers I'm considering purchasing were delivered to the store. * I don't buy "flower specials" just as I know not to buy a "brunch special" (thanks Anthony Bourdain! https://www.theguardian.com/books/2000/aug/12/features.weekend1) * I check the stem health buy pulling a flower out of the display vase and noting how green (or brown and slimy) the end is. * Are the petals is good shape? Or are they faded, wilt-y and creased? As for delivery: I only have flowers delivered from shops that I have personal relationships with. I tend to send food gifts, mostly, but if I'm sending flowers, I've either * Fucked up badly; * I'm in love; * I miss you; * Something amazing or terrible has happened in your life and food doesn't make sense as a gift (rare, but it happens so I'm ready for that with my florists). These are not times to mess around with flowers that don't get delivered on time/get lost in translation--i.e. without instructions and/or a card; die in a couple of days, etc. These are the times that only the very best will do. But folks, if you're after a more "permanent" floral experience: make a donation to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens or The Sierra Club (to protect some trees y'all!) or go for a lovely walk in one of our borough parks. It takes strength of spirit to buy cut flowers, friends: not everyone can be cool with death happening right front of their eyes, no matter how pretty the colors. Ok. Back to the review: I've been in Stem several times--for luxurious bouquets that were pricey (~ $80.00) to simpler ones that were downright affordable (~ $10.00 ): it all depends on the blooms one chooses. A deep, coral pink King Peony with a blossom the size of a dinner plate will be priced more than an equally gorgeous but more common deep, coral pink dahlia. That makes sense right? The weirder the bloom the more you pay. It's basically Keynesian. So listen: if you the type of person who understands the biology of decomposition, is down with supply & demand mechanics, and can't resist impermanent beauty, Stem is your store. Hands off the King Peonies, tho, please. Those are mine. read more

Amazing florist! Stem and owner Delgis go above and beyond and are very accommodating. I contacted Stem to create floral arrangements for my bridal shower tables. Throughout the process Delgis was very responsive to emails. I requested additional flowers for the cake and the arrangements, similar to centerpieces, we gorgeous! I went to Stem on my way home from work the other day to get a small bouquet for my partner. I told the person working there that I wanted to spend $25 and she put a very beautiful little bouquet together. They have unique and interesting flowers that anyone would be happy to receive as a gift! Bonus: she used gender neutral pronouns when referring to my partner (whose gender I didn't mention). I stopped by, having been charmed by the vintage racquets in the window and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a flower shop. Stem is my new favorite florist. They did the bouquet, boutinier, and table arrangements for my wedding and totally killed it! Took our requests and spun them into something distinctive and beautiful. You're definitely going to pay more than a deli or whatever, but what we got was a bargain: Cala lilies, some crazy thistle things, and Rosemary, which was actually really beautiful and fragrant and somehow made sense for our wedding. read more

I don't mean to get all misty, but I am moving out of the 'hood in less than two weeks, and hands down, the place I am going to miss most of all is Stem -- the most charming little flower shop you will ever meet. See that chalkboard on Fulton pointing you towards fresh flowers? That's Stem! Go! The front table has all sorts of stems (ok, obviously) sorted into vases for your choosing, or you can ask one of the owners to make an arrangement. After choosing the flowers, Rado makes sure you know how to take care of them, and ties everything up in brown tissue paper and stripey string with a store tag -- it's a little parcel that makes me SO happy. And the flowers, for the most part (when I remember his advice) last a looooong time, which is always a good sign. Plus I like that I can walk in and buy just one or two stems for a bud vase and be treated just as well as if I was buying a huge bouquet. Stem also has a small stock of cards and gifty things (antique linens!) -- the first time I came in I stocked up on a bunch of faux-bois printed blank cards that were super cheap considering the going rate for cute cards. And I've heard through the grapevine that you're starting to see Stem around the neighborhood -- on the tables at Ici, and as party favors at the latest Thistle & Clover trunk show (ok, that I know because I went to T&C specifically because I knew there would be Stem stems there! Am I a flower groupie?) I love cozy, independently-owned shops, and now that I'm leaving Brooklyn you should all go buy fleurs from Rado and think of me. Or you could buy ME flowers. I placed an order from Vancouver today for my husband's birthday and I was so impressed! I prefer small boutiques for flower delivery as it assures the money goes to support local business and because I can speak directly with the person creating the order to ensure it is personalized for the recipient. Delgis was so patient when my foreign credit card was having problems processing and my e-transfer was equally ineffective. I am definitely a fan. The owner was delightful and very expedient with my order, being that I was in a rush. The only 2 cons: 1) I do need the shop to open on time (sign states noon, they opened at 12:15). Their selection wasn't quite set-up upstairs, the wife was still bringing arrangements/flowers from downstairs. 2) Burgundy peonies started to wilt within 4 hours of arrangement...think they could have been a bit more fresh. However, the shoppe was delightful and such a nice addition to the neighborhood. I'll definitely make sure to stop by Stem again, for another floral arrangement. read more

Not your plain old bouquet! Recently had a bouquet made for my girlfriend and she loved it. I had never been to Stem before, but I saw they were local on Yelp, so I just walked in on a Friday afternoon. I told them a little about what I wanted and what my budget was. Then I sat while the man helping me put together a beautiful, diverse bouquet. The best part of the bouquet was that it was more than just flowers, the thistles were especially beautiful. I wanted something significantly nicer than deli flowers and while it wasn't cheap, I was very pleased with what I got. They've been brightening our apartment for almost a week now. The shop is cute & beautiful with pleasant classical music playing. They also had a nice selection of local crafts including nice letterpressed note cards. read more

Called for a bouquet delivery today. Was told minimum for delivery was $50. Fine (am in trouble with the wife!) We discussed flower choice and selected one. Asked how many stems for the $50, was told 3 or 4.... uh, OK. After I exchanged details was told there was a $10 delivery fee on top of the $50 (minimum for delivery would seem to include the...delivery). Actual total would be $64 with tax, etc.. O.K..fine... (am in trouble with the wife!). Asked when it could be delivered, was told "their guy" goes out around 5 - 6pm. Asked if I could be at the front of the line (am in trouble with the wife!) was told (in a unenthusiastic way) she would see what she could do (low expectations there for sure.) My wife got a text asking if she was home (isn't the whole point of delivered flowers that they are a surprise?) I called shop to say I was at home and asked when I could expect delivery, and was told around 7pm. I asked why the change in time and was told that they were "backed up." Was also told that they had called my wife "a couple times" and got no answer. Asked why they didn't call me and they said, "I dunno". I ended up driving to the shop to pickup myself (am in trouble with the wife!). The bouquet was just OK, color of flowers not what was discussed and overall a very lack luster performance. read more

Rude, Overpriced, Belligerent, and Inflexible Being out of town for a long business trip I thought I would surprise my wife with a bouquet of flowers. I called Stem, because I have passed by while walking my dogs numerous times and it looked like a lovely little shop and I really enjoy supporting local small businesses. The owner (or whomever answers the phones and returns calls there) had difficulty explaining to me what was or was not included in the $50 minimum purchase for a delivery. Instead of hanging up and trying someone else, I decided that I would try a $65 bouquet. This seemed to confuse them so they suggested that we do "tied" flowers for $65, which with tax and fees came out to almost $100. I returned home from my trip that night and the flowers were not there. I called our 24 hour doorman at our building and they did not have any record of any flowers nor anyone have attempted to make a delivery of flowers (they keep Orwellian levels of records on these things in my building). I called Stem and asked that my card be refunded since the surprise of my having sent my wife flowers while I was out of town had now passed. I received a call back at 10:15am the next day from the same employee (owner?) who proceeded to give me 101 excuses on why they did not deliver the flowers (My wife didn't answer her cell phone, I didn't answer mine even though I was flying across the country). I asked for a refund and she refused. I asked to have them delivered at 12:15 PM, she refused. I reiterated that we have a 24 hour doorman as well as a full time nanny (that there is ALWAYS someone here) and she told me that since she had tried to call my wife yesterday, there was nothing that she could do. I am now going to pick them up by myself as the employee/owner refused to refund the $15 delivery fee. She indicated that the way they handle this is just add more flowers (I guess this is not the first time this has occurred). I've no idea of the history of this shop nor the typical protocols for attempting delivery (we live fewer than 2.5 blocks from the shop) however I am positive that I will NEVER do business with this florist again. If they had attempted delivery and there had been no-one home, than I could understand the inability to refund, however there was NO delivery attempted and to suggest that the reason for this was that my wife (this was to be a surprise for goodness sakes) and I did not answer our mobiles prior to their attempting to deliver is unacceptable. read more

Bought floral arrangements over a many a Valentines from Stem and have always recommended Stem's work to friends. Their arrangements are beautiful. I'm getting married in less than three weeks, went to Stem with my fiancé in plenty of time before the big date and Rado understood our aesthetic and budget, taking copious notes. We agreed on the date and shook hands -he told us to expect a detailed proposal and invoice within a couple of days. A few days later we followed up with Rado, who asked us to wait a few more days since he has been very busy. A voicemail, a phone call later, another voice mail and another call (over 2 wks since our meeting)- finally got him on the phone to learn he "is not available that day" and "meant to call". Beautiful bouquets, but they have a lot of work to do on their customer service. I spent about an hour last week in their store setting up a regular flower service. I had wanted a Friday evening delivery, but was told that Saturday was a better day (asked to do what was convenient for the store, not the client). I agreed to Saturday, but said I would like to pick up in person on Saturday. I showed up at noon on Saturday and was told that delivery was better and they would deliver "later in the day" (again, the client is doing what i convenient for the store). I called at 6:45 pm as I still had not received my flowers and was told "it's been really busy and we forgot about you". Hmmm. They offered to deliver Sunday and I refused an insisted on today. I am curious to see if and when anything is delivered. It'd close to 7:30 pm now....This is not how to run a business. read more
