Really pretty restaurant. Servers were amazing. They start you off with some in house made bread that was honestly so delicious. Then the amuse-bouche, apps, palate cleanser, and the entree. Food was overall great. We skipped dessert because we had a show to catch. This is a nice place to have a meal if you are on a date and want to impress.

When I saw Flor De Sal participate in Winterlicious 2020, I made a reservation asap. I've been wanting to experience Flor De Sal since Cristina opened it, yet for one reason or another I never got around to it. Anyhow, my partner, who coincidentally used to work there before we met, raved about the food, decor and ambiance to me all the time. Especially the food, so us going was no debate lol! Portuguese fine dining? My only memory of any experience was with my avós when I was too young to appreciate food, but not to young to forget the classic Portuguese dishes that were appropriately being offered on the Winterlicious menu. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and seated in the Garden Room, Table 10, near the entrance, and a view of the lovely patio to which I was already day dreaming of future summer outings on. The decor was impeccable. Each item, carefully picked out, and placed with intention. It flowed. Nothing like I've experienced before and we hadn't even eaten yet. We were given the Winterlicious menu, water, and some warm, buttered bread that had some pieces of chorizo in it. My mouth was beyond happy already. I would go there just for the bread even. Moving on. I ordered the Caldo De Verde with Chorizo for an appetizer. The freshest bowl of soup one could have. The chorizo was packed full of flavour and I enjoyed sprinkling the salt on top for that extra kick! I don't like salty foods so I appreciated the opportunity to control my own salt intake. For the main, I ordered the Grilled Filleted Sardines. I wasn't sure what to expect but what was prepared by Chef Hugo was delivered with flavours that brought back my memories of my childhood in Portugal that I haven't been able to remember until today. The scent married with the flavours of the sardines created the epitome of what Portugal and its cuisine is all about. Thank you for this. For dessert, I ordered the Flor De Sal Sampler. Everything was delicious. You can't go wrong with three mini desserts that provide you with different flavours and textures; chocolate, wafer and custard. Yet had I known the Pasteis de Nata was going to taste that delicious, I would've ordered just the Pasteis de Nata. Warm, with the perfect crunch and the custard wasn't too sweet, perfectly balanced on the zabaglione which I wish I could've taken a jar home. I wish I had asked where the Pasteis de Nata are from but I was too lost in an a sea of bliss with how everything tasted. I look forward to trying the other plates on the menu that I've heard about such as the Cataplana and Octopus and hopefully in the warm weather on the patio. Flor De Sal is a cozy home, packed with class and comfort, but most importantly flavour! Thank you for a delicious lunch. On a side note for those who are vegan: I was happy they had vegan options so my partner could also enjoy lunch, but the Tofu Wellington my partner ordered was just as delicious as everything else when I snuck a few bites from her. The texture, ingredients and flavours were married with such creativity. Chef Hugo could teach vegan chefs a thing or two about how to transform vegan staples into a cohesive, tasteful and beautiful dish.

I think this experience with my beau has cemented this place as one of our favourite restaurants for more formal couple dinner dates. Location: 4.5/5 It is slightly out of the way with a hidden parking area across the street at the nearby gallery, but this place would be perfect for those near the Casa Loma area. Decor/Ambience: 5/5 I love the romantic standalone house decor of this Portuguese corner house restaurant. Candle-lit dinner and fireplace with lovely plating. Very fancy and chic. Food quality: 5/5 My grilled filleted sardines and cataplana (daily fish, shrimp, clams, sweet peppers, onions, tomato, white wine and white port broth) were cooked to perfection! Steaming hot and moist! Likewise with my beau's Portuguese medley charcuterie and 6oz ribeye with mashed potatoes and string beans. Service: 5/5 The staff explained the name and history of the restaurant in great detail and every single item we ordered. Everything was paced out perfectly well. Super polite and impeccable customer service and attention to detail. My beau's medium rare New York sirloin steak came out medium well done and he casually told our server and he promptly replaced it with a freshly made steak that was larger than the originals without any hesitation. Now that is top quality service. He even suggested pairings for each Winterlicious mains such that we both eagerly ordered a cocktail and beer. Value: 5/5 Winterlicious menu pricing made this more affordable, but the portions were amazing!! I was completely full after the 3-course meal and that does not usually happen at finer places such as this. Overall: 5/5 This restaurant is by far one of my favourite restaurants in all of GTA!! I happily rate this a 5 on all criteria. Coming back for future special anniversaries!

A cozy and beautiful restaurant with great Mediterranean food. I loved the elegant decor and quiet atmosphere. The servers were very courteous and took our jackets while we sat down. They had a pretty extensive wine list and I ended up getting a Pinot Grigio. For food I ordered the grilled octopus with patatas bravas while my girlfriend ordered the Cornish hen. The octopus was cooked to perfection, not rubbery but tender and juicy and I loved the subtle saltiness of the seasoning. I was also digging the how the patatas bravas melted in your mouth. For dessert, my girlfriend got the lemon vanilla cheesecake while a decided to go with a flor de sal sampler. The pastel de nata was my favourite of the three mini dessert but they were all great, even the cheesecake which I managed to take a bite of! This place is definitely great for an intimate evening and I hope to come here again!

I first met chef Roberto Fracchioni when he was running Monk Kitchen, a true "hidden" gem that was located in the basement of the Templar Hotel. Sources tell me that Monk Kitchen is no more and the Templar Hotel is now void of its own restaurant. I had taken my sister there last year for her birthday, and we loved Roberto so much that when we found out he is now cooking out of Flor de Sal, where the former Corner House was once located, we decided to go there for my birthday this year. Cristina da Costa, former CHIN radio host turned restauranteur is the perfect hostess. She greeted us at the door, checked up on us without being obtrusive and when she found out we were celebrating a birthday offered us a dessert/aperitif on the house. She definitely knows how to make you feel special. I'm glad that the dated décor left with the Corner House as the space is minimalist but modern and the patio is extremely inviting. Naturally, we both decide that's where we want to spend the night. Dinner starts off with Portuguese corn bread which fails to excite me. It was all too dense and rather bland. The only saving grace are the duo of olives from Cheese Boutique. Wines are pretty pricey though I do like that they have the option of a half-bottle which allows room for both a white and red wine, especially for a smaller party of 2. My sister found a new favorite in the form of a Santa Rita Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. We quickly search the LCBO to find a full 750mL bottle for $13.95 while our half-bottle rang in at around $30. That's just to give you an idea on the mark-up. An amuse of Ricotta and Beamster-stuffed shisito arrives at our table on a bed of pine nuts and cherry tomatoes. We quickly devour it. The cherry tomatoes are sweet, plump and delicious and the shisito pepper is extremely satisfying. We start with a bowl of Bulhao Pato, clams cooked in vinho verde with garlic and cilantro. The serving is quite scant for the $18 price tag and I wonder if Fracchioni is taking Flor de Sal (which is the Portuguese-equivalent of fleur de sel) too seriously. I'd normally sop up every drop of the cooking liquids with my bread, but... A palate cleanser dubbed the Sicilian Lemon Bomb arrives at our table infused with Limoncello and sprinkled with pomegranate. With mains starting at $39, one's expectation is high. I opt for the Branzino, which comes grilled whole with lemon and rosemary tucked into various pockets of the fish but the kitchen is happy to fillet it for you if you don't want to do the work yourself. The accompaniment of sorrel, farro and radish is bland and flavorless and is more there for plating than it is for consumption. I certainly didn't waste any calories on it. My sister's rack of lamb ($47) however, is fantastic. Grill marks are not there just for show as you can taste the charred goodness through the mustard and oregano. The fried artichokes get quickly consumed as my sister and I exchange glances before our forks race to finish the last piece. It is worthy of noting that when we were originally deciding where to go for dinner that the final 2 considerations were Scaramouche and Flor de Sal. We eventually opted for Flor de Sal because of our previous experience with Fracchioni at Monk Kitchen and the fact that it was named in Toronto Life's list of "Top 20 Best Restaurants" this year. Suffice it to say that we were extremely disappointed in our decision to go with Flor de Sal (and will think twice before taking a recommendation from Toronto Life again)...we didn't even bother with dessert. All we could think of was the coconut cream pie we could've had at Scaramouche. Flor de Sal definitely looks the part, with its elegant interiors, the amuse and palate cleanser and its area code, but for the price tag, better food can be found elsewhere.

Amazing food, great service. Very tasteful decor. Loved the place. Wine selection is rich and selected with great knowledge, very impressive. Don't forget to try their desserts, delicious and to me they are artworks. We were five people to dine there for the first time and we tried different dishes. All of them were unique, fresh and tasteful. We will definitely going back there again. Highly recommend to all.

Good presentation but no taste at all.

It was our first time at the Golden Pheasant and have to say that we were impressed with the food…read more But what's more impressive, was the huge portion of their plates. The schnitzel that I ordered (Wiener Schnitzel) was enough to feed 3 people. Mine was with the potato salad that you pay an extra $2 (worth it in my opinion) or you could get it with rice and fries. It also comes with a salad. We also ordered the Potato Dumplings (Halusky) which brought memories of my trip to Slovakia a while ago. We also ordered some Pillsners Urkell to wash down our food. The schnitzel is a bit on the salty side so the Halusky, potato salad and salad provides a nice balance. The food took a very long time to arrive so that's something to be aware of. I'm not sure if it was a one off or if it's a regular occurrence. The food was worth the wait though. My advice will be to come as soon as they are open. The decor needs improvement but you are not coming here for the ambience. The food prices might seems expensive but when you compare it with the amount of food that you get, it's really not. There's parking at the back and the restaurant it's a bit lax about their opening time which is 5pm. We arrived at 5pm but needed to knock so they could open for us. It's in the same block as Dairy Cream so it was convenient for us. We did not finish our food as we were saving room for the ice cream. It's worth a visit if you are fan of schnitzels!

A lot of beatiful European-looking clienteles (and we are the only non-European one). lol. Upon sitting: Free bread and pickled spicy beets/cabbage are provided, along with 4 different types of sauces. We ordered: 1.khinkali (dumpling beef and pork). 3 HUGE pieces of dumpling. Theres broth inside the dumpling. Taste yummy and homey 2. Goergian bread with chese and runny eggs in the middle. best to eat while it's warm. the bread feels fluffy. cheese is not heavy as i thought. 3. (medium-grilled) baby lamb rack comes with side dishes & bread. tender. 'homey' taste (not overpowering like typical food in restaurant). 4. walnut cake comes with vanilla ice cream. cake doesnt feel condesed/heavy like typical cake! and definitely great mix with ice cream. Overall, food taste 'homey', which is good/different experience. But didnt feel compatible with high-price (receipt with food name&price are attached for reference). We will not be back as there's nth really memorable/oustanding flavor-wise..(except for the great service!) With same spending, we feel it's more worthed to spend in different restaurant. But if you never try and looking for yours-truly-experience, go ahead. After all, whats not too great for me might be hidden gem for you. Cheers!

They even asked the sous chef to make sure the presentation was excellent; he didn't disappoint. Their menu changes seasonally. I ordered the following: 1. Coke ($). 2. Tempura Shrimp ($27). 3. Crispy Duck Leg Confit & Breast ($46). 4. Saskatoon Berry Cheesecake ($14). The Tempura Shrimp were tiger shrimp and were so plump, each about 1 inch diameter at the widest end! They were de-shelled and tempura battered. There were orange slices (orange), avocado slices (green), and chili slices (red), making the dish colourful. The Crispy Duck came with a leg and sliced breast portions. Accompanying them were tamarillo, sunchoke puree, bordelaise, dried kale chips, berry gastrique, and chopped candied pecans. All the ingredients worked well together, with mixtures of savoury and sweet tastes. The Cheesecake was amazing. The cheesecake itself was an upside-down half sphere. It was soft; I prefer that over the typical firm cake. There were miniature dried berries on top, along with a ruby chocolate sauce, and a sliced of dried red beet. Surrounding it was a soft marshmallow meringue which was lightly torched. The colour theme was red and white with a touch of dark blue. Daimon, the sous chef, plated everything expertly for me. There is plenty of indoor seating, of which one side has a view of the lake. There is lively music playing in the background. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms. There is free street parking on weekends on a street running north of the restaurant. There is also a paid parking lot next to the restaurant. At the recommendation of the service staff, I ordered the Crab Cake Egg Benedict (lemon aïoli, boston lettuce, chive hollandaise), served for weekend brunch only. Similar to my previous meals here, the food had subtle layers of flavour that came together nicely with every bite. I tend to gravitate to food that I can't get at other restaurants. The server informed us that the meal was not served on brioche like the other Egg Benedict's, but I was still full with the side salad (yeh, no arugula). My husband ordered the side fries so his belly was full. There were two crab cakes with eggs, and plenty of crab inside. I was glad that I didn't taste fillers. Service was good and we sat at a table with a waterfront view. The Sloane tea and beverages were a pricey and small for what they were, hence one of the reasons I don't come here as frequently. Overall, I enjoy the food here.
