It's been so long since I've been to Flor de mayo, it's nice to see that it hasn't changed. Food still really good. I always want to try new dishes but keep going back to the basics. The chicken is most and flavorful. Fried rice delicious. Service is good. We came for early dinner so we got seated right away.

Stopped by for a Saturday lunch and had 0 wait for a table for 3. We ordered the Half chicken with plantains, Lomo saltado & Pepper chicken with fried rice. - The half chicken was delicious - the meat was juicy & fat nicely rendered so the skin was thin and a little crispy, but it was pretty salty, especially in areas like the wings, where its not that meaty. At the time there was no green sauce (!!) but was still overall delish! - The lomo saltado was my favorite of the day - perfectly seasoned and I love when the veggies still have their bite and not overcooked. the fries were still crispy when it came to the table but eventually softened soaking up the sauce. Absolutely delish and would definitely get again - The pepper chicken was not what i expected - the meat was tender but I expected it to be a spicy green pepper but the flavor was of green bell pepper. No complaints - was tender and well seasoned - just not what i expected. The star of this plate though, was the pork fried rice. It had the slight smokey flavor of a well prepared fried rice, wasnt oily/heavy and was one of the best bites of the day!

Wow!!! The chaufa is so tasty! Literally took my first bite, and said, "Wow" out loud. Lomo saltado, great portion of fries, tomato, and steak. Next time I'll order the steak medium rare, but this is the best I've had in NYC. I can't wait to come back and try the other dishes. Delicious!

I can't visit the Upper West Side without stopping by Flor De Mayo -- it's been my go-to for nearly 30 years! Their Pollo a la Brasa is always juicy and flavorful, and I always pair it with the House Special Fried Rice. My food came out in about five minutes, and the service was just as great as always. I stopped by around 2 p.m. on 11/1/25, and it wasn't too crowded. The noise level was low, making it a nice, relaxed lunch. My server, David, was super friendly and attentive. Fun fact -- they serve 7UP! I don't know any other restaurant in the NYC area that does. Most places only have Sprite, but I'm a 7UP fan all the way. And if you didn't know, Flor De Mayo actually created the Nutcracker cocktail (Don Q 151, Southern Comfort, and Disaronno) -- it was even featured in The New York Times! I skipped it today though... it's strong, and I wasn't looking to risk a DUI.

Service was quick and easy! This restaurant had quite a bit of seating but was overall a great experience! I really enjoyed my virgin pina colada with the SUPER JUICY N DELICIOUS pollo a la brasa! I think its a underdog among the rest of the menu! The ceviche wasn't traditional unfortunately but was pretty tasty. This place is great overall and are doing a great job!

I am amazed at how consistent this place is with the quality of service and food. The amount of people who come here speaks highly of how good the food is. I recommend calling if you plan on coming in a large group because everytime I've come here I've had to wait. The wait is worth it 100%. I came with my friends and as usual we enjoyed our drinks and our food but I will say this isn't the type of place where you sit around and talk without ordering anything. It's super fast pace and they're always trying to get everyone in and out (no rush though) because of how high the demand is. The servers are great. Attentive, helpful and will ask YOU what you want before placing their own opinions on you. I love that although there's a lot of people it's always clean and well organized. It gives you a feel of the city always. Always recommend this city staple 100/10.

Stopped in here for an early dinner. We were greeted and sat right away. Our waiter was amazing! My Seco de Res was so tasty and beef was so tender. My husband loved his dish and the fried pieces of chicken were just right, along with the different sauces. The Nutcracker drink was good, a bit on the strong side but not complaining. The place got busier as we ate and everyone was very helpful and welcoming. Will definitely return!

Delicious food all around! The ají de gallina was fantastic, creamy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The maduros were absolute perfection, caramelized just right. Service was friendly and attentive, and they were so accommodating, even adding an extra person to our table last minute without any issue. A great spot for comforting Peruvian dishes and a relaxed, welcoming vibe.

YUMMY Food !!! Great Soup & Cuban Chicken . Delicious Special Fried Rice . Great Price's .

My friend and I came here for dinner. We were given comfortable booth seating. The decor was simple and the place had a welcoming atmosphere. For my drink, I had the Morir Sonando, a sweet, frothy creation consisting of orange juice, milk, sugar, and crushed ice. This was citrusy and refreshing. I ordered the Lomo Saltado with fried egg on top, and a side of Special Fried Rice. At first the dish came without the egg, but that was quickly fixed. The Lomo Saltado was thick cut steak perfectly seared, mixed with onion, tomato, as well as nicely crisp French fries in a yummy savory sauce. The steak was tender and well seasoned, while the veggies had a satisfying crunch. Fried Rice was quite tasty, chock full of shrimp, pork, ham, bean sprouts, onion, and scallions. All the ingredients combined well together. Service was pretty good. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were decent. I would be open to returning in order to try Pork Chops with Tostones.

The seasonings was absolutely amazing (i.e. you'd would've thought we cooked it ourselves for context our backgrounds are Caribbean by way of Jamaica and Southern influences).....a gem down the block from a usual haunt (which we go to once to twice a month in the summer and every few months in the fall/winter).....me and the boyfriend have walked pass this place unknowingly several times to our usual fav eatery unaware. The drinks hit and overall service was reasonable. I would've like to have the menu organized better or rather I would've liked accompanying photos with a few dishes or more of a descriptive breakdown of ingredients etc. for several of the menu items - given we haven't eaten Peruvian food often if ever. We had the yucca balls and half a fried chicken with fried green plantains (tostones) with garlic then we did sweet & sour chicken and I did squid with black beans sauce. We loved our dishes equally.

Food was great. LOVE the Lomo beef and Nutcrackers. AVOID THE SANGRIA....it's sweet trash! But love the place and all the food!

I have only had Peruvian twice and hated it the first time. This place made up for what I had the first time. The service was so quick and efficient and everything was brought out rather quickly. I had the Lomo Saltado and it was amazing. They have a huge drink selection and I went for the Mai Tai, perhaps not the best pairing for my meal but the drink itself was so good. There is almost always a packed house for both lunch and dinner, but there are plenty of seats evenly spread out so you're not on top of anyone.

The place was pretty busy at 10:00 PM last Saturday, with a wide range of diners, which is good for business. The food though, at least that night, was really disappointing. My friend had the chicken dumplings. He said they were okay. I thought they were overcooked. My steamed shrimp shumai were fine, but steamed, they didn't have much flavour. The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Then we got a handful of apps - everyone else swore by all the ones they'd had - but I just tried the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and... sweet baby Jesus, this little plate had a wicked amount of flavor from every angle.  "Aggressively seasoned" might be an understatement.  Wild. Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. (And you'll never see such a heavy wine pour at a restaurant... they filled the glass almost to the rim - which was not even something I'd do for myself when I'm home.) Definitely recommended.
