Our main sewer line was blocked. We called Roto-Rooter. They came out quickly and cleared the line…read morein the late evening. The next day Doug came by with a camera and showed us that there were tree roots in the pipe. He was able to schedule service for the next day. So far so good. The team came out the next morning and said that if everything went smoothly they would be done by about 2:30. Well, everything did not go smoothly. They dug up our front yard and said that there was nothing wrong with the pipe where Doug had told them to dig. They sat around for an hour, waiting for Doug to get back to them. When he did, they were told that the clog was much farther away from the house than where they dug and had to keep digging closer to the sewer clean out. They did not finish until 9:00pm. The problem is that while they spent half the day digging in the wrong spot, they damaged bushes and knocked over a tree that were nowhere near the clog. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. In their response, they said that the pipe took an unexpected turn. As you can see from the attached pictures, the pipe was perfectly straight; Doug and the team just miscommunicated about the location to dig. I know that in this kind of a job, damage to the landscape is unavoidable, and they are not responsible for the unavoidable damage, but because of their miscommunication, there was a great deal of avoidable damage. I have asked them to reimburse me for the portion of the landscaping that they should not have damaged, and they have refused. I have not asked for a refund of my fee as they did the work they were supposed to, nor have I asked for them to pay for all my landscaping. I have merely asked them to pay for the damage that was caused by their mistakes. They have refused.

On a Sunday evening, a huge clog backed up the drain for both of my 2nd Floor bathrooms and the water ran down into my 1st Floor ceiling. I got the water turned off and called the plumber and Kevin at Hamilton's Unlimited. Since I also have a Powder Room on the 1st Floor, I told them both it can wait until Monday morning. Early the next morning the plumber called to say they were running ahead of schedule and asked if they move me up. Of course, I told them yes. By the time the plumbers got here (early), Hamilton's Unlimited had already removed all of the wet ceiling, disinfected the framing, set up fans and a dehumidifier, and hauled away the debris. Here is what this company put me through to arrive at the same outcome we could have reached a year earlier: I contracted with one of Jeff Holland's SERVPRO franchises in October 2024 for a bathroom renovation with a completion date of November 15, 2024. They took my deposit immediately and then disappeared. For months I had no functioning bathroom and received zero communication despite my repeated attempts to reach them. They never told me their project manager had died and simply let my project collect dust while I waited. Months of silence. No reassignment. No accountability. Nothing. When they finally showed up, the tile work was so bad it had to be torn out and redone multiple times. We are talking about a professional restoration company that could not install basic tile correctly on the first attempt, or the second. The photographic evidence of their workmanship is genuinely embarrassing. When I raised these issues and pushed back on the final invoice, which arrived six months after the contracted completion date and included charges I was never invoiced for during the project, management responded by threatening me with attorney fees, late fees, and legal action. Then they actually followed through and filed suit against me in court, represented by an attorney, apparently convinced they could bully me into paying in full for a job delivered five months late and half wrong. They were wrong. I filed complaints with the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, prepared a full defense, and was ready to walk into that courtroom. Case No. D-01-CV-26-019615, District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City. Look it up. They dismissed the case and settled for the $2,000 I had been offering them for over a year. The same number I put on the table long before lawyers, court filings, and months of stress were ever involved. Jeff Holland's management team chose every single one of those steps rather than simply do the right thing. This is how Jeff Holland's franchises operate. They will take your money, vanish, deliver substandard work, blame you for their failures, threaten you with litigation, and ultimately fold the moment you stand your ground.
