GREAT first experience at Flo on Wheels. I'm a total newbie and went here after calling around to several places in the area and by my parents in Bergen County. Flo's pricing was comparable to those in Bergen County and MUCH less than Grove St Cycles, so I headed here for convenience. The employees were very straightforward and helpful. I luckily only needed a tune-up and new tubes ($100 total) and also purchased a helmet ($50, same price as on the brand's site) and lock ($50, also same as elsewhere). For $200, my ~12 year old bike that's been sitting in storage (no moisture = no rust) is good as new! Highly recommended. read more

My BF and I stopped in today to check out cycling shoes for spin class. These guys were great! It's a small shop but they were pulling out chairs so could we sit to try on shoes. The shoes were on sale thanks to being the end of the season but they knocked a few more bucks off since we purchased 2 pair. We made it a couple of blocks before I realized I left my water bottle in the store. Turned back to get it but someone from the store had hopped on a bike and caught up with us. They were pretty busy so I really appreciate the great customer service. We'll definitely bring our bikes in for tune ups in the spring. read more

I have visited and used many bike shops since starting with triathlon's and flo on wheels is by far the best shop I have worked with. The larger shops always make me feel like they don't need my business and are too busy to answer questions. Flo always takes time to explain my questions regarding my bike, maintenance, parts, training etc. Prices are always fair and turn around time for any work has been extremely fast. I've come here for years for maintenance and tire repair, and consistently find they guys to be kind, professional, and knowledgeable. With flats, they were so service-oriented that they took my number and called (same day) as soon as the bike was ready. I also like that they cater to recreational cyclers with as much attention and care as they give to serious cyclers. We've bought 6 bikes here, over several years. We love the bikes--I wish we could get something cheaper for younsters, but the Target c..p doesn't last a summer, and there prices are in-line with others, and their free tune-ups for (some long period--don't remember) makes them a bargain if you use your bike a lot. They know their bikes, and I have only two complaints keeping them short of 5 stars. First, the selection is surprisingly wide for such a small store, but it's still a small store. Second, they tend to under-inflate tires, which probably explains the other reviewer's problem with a flat. Which is sharply at odds with their otherwise strong expertise. In there early years, I once even had an argument, noting my racing tires weren't pumped high enough, and one employee claimed it would make my bike more likely to have flats, which is backwards. But that seems an aberration. I've never had a problem with poor attitude that others have experienced (though buying a bunch of bikes may be a factor...) Overall, they have good bikes, quality service, good prices, good location. And a free air pump! What more could you want? read more

This place is not for me. Everything is super expensive (although, I guess that works for it's main clientele in Hoboken). I was shocked at how expensive bikes were at this store (although the new bikes they sell look super cool). Even the used bikes that the leave out front were very pricey. I brought mine and my girl's bikes here for tune-ups a few years back. The "experts" recommended that I get new tires on my bike. I followed their recommendation. When I came back several days later to pickup our bikes, my girl and I were very excited. We ended up paying just over $300 for the double tune-ups, plus the new tires on my bike. Now we're not road racers, we're casual city bike riders. In hindsight, I should've just bought 2 new $150 bikes at Target. That being said, her bike rode better than it ever had. My bike, however, was a totally different story. The new rear tire was scraping against my bike frame. I noticed it immediately upon exiting the store. They took it in the back, and "fixed it". I was told that this wasn't unusual, and that the tire would wear down within a few rides. That was total B.S. My rear tire continued to scrape against the frame continuously, and permanently. The tires were too fat for my bike frame. Over the next few years, the rear tire popped on my bike half-a-dozen times. I'm not sure if the problem was just the technician that serviced my bike, or if it's the store itself, but either way, my one encounter with Flo On Wheels has caused me years of frustration. You may ask why I'm writing this review now, even though my purchase at this store was several years back. Well, the answer is that after popping the rear tire TWICE in May of this year, coupled with the relentless scraping of the rear tire on the bike frame (which essentially makes my bike a mobile exercise bike), I finally decided to purchase new tires. I waited so long because the tires that I bought here still have plenty of tread, and despite them being the wrong size, I tried desperately to get my money's worth. I will never, ever go back to this place. It will haunt me forever. read more

This is my first negative post on yelp but I feel it's well deserved. I believe in shopping locally so I've been practically begging them to take my money with no success. I own a Dahon folding bike which I bought from Nycewheels in the city because although flo claims to be a dahon dealer, your choices at that shop are specialized, specialized, and did I mention specialized? So fine, at least I can pick up off the shelf parts, right? Wrong. They never carried my bike tubes and unless I wanted (you guessed it) specialized accessories, I was out of luck. I started going to Grove Street but I feel bad when there's a shop in my town. So I try one last time. My free hub and bearings need servicing which I began but I work on cars for a living so I'm tired of getting my hands dirty so why not just throw money at flo to finish it since I don't want to bother with all those specialty tools. Nope, I bring it in and he won't even look at it till Monday. He says he didn't even want to work on something someone else touched. I'm not a layman. The work is simple. Super easy. Fool proof. Dirty and annoying but easy. There's plenty of bike stores around and maybe I'll just finish this myself but I'm never walking through those doors again. read more

Knowledgeable and amazing service. Bought my latest bike there last year, and utilized the free tune-ups for life this weekend as we head into spring weather. They also rebuilt my boyfriend's road bike that was saltwater devastated after Sandy to like-new standards at a decent price. Great shop for triathlon and biking enthusiasts, and also casual riders. Flo will not oversell you - he makes sure you get enough bike and bang for your buck, but doesn't upsell you on more than you need. I wish they carried more than Specialized, but it's such a great shop and they utilize their space so well. It can get busy, but the staff is always very courteous and gives you a heads up on wait times. They will gladly take your cell number and call promptly when things are ready. read more

I would take my old road bike here for tune ups once a year. Wound up buying a new bike at a different bike shop in Fort Lee (because Flo was closed). Took it for it's first serious ride, and the gears were grinding badly on the left hand gears. The bike wasn't build correctly. Flo fixed it for me for a discounted rate. I got it back not just in perfect working condition...but it looked liked they'd CLEANED it! I highly recommend Flo on Wheels. I am fairly new to the cycling world, and ride a hand me down bike. Flo has been instrumental in getting me fitted to the bike (without telling me I need a whole new bike), finding the best seat, and answering all my newbie questions. Very reasonable pricing and the place has a small-town feel, where they remember you and your bike when you walk in. They succeed in serving both serious cyclists and casual riders. I see lots of reviews about how busy the shop is, which is true. But do you really want to eat at an empty restaurant? They are busy for good reason, just have a little patience. read more

I bought my new Specialized here today as an early Christmas gift and what a great experience it was! The first time I came to browse Jason helped me, and once I explained what I was looking for he immediately picked out a bike which looked great. Then he paused and pulled a different ride and yelled to the back about what they could do on the price. I couldn't believe the deal they gave me! I ended up getting a better bike for the same price as the first one he had pulled since it was the last one in the store! He knew it was my size and had everything I was looking for. He had my back and as a new customer that really makes an impact. When I went back a few days later to pick up the bike, Flo and Jason were both there. They both talked me through the bikes gears, answered every newbie question I had without any attitude and made sure the bike was in perfect condition before it left the store. Since I live 2 blocks away and had bought a bunch of other stuff Jason walked me to my place and carried the rest of my stuff while I happily walked with my bike. I've been going to this bike store and repair shop for years. They do great repairs and always call me before any expensive work is done. Anytime I have a problem I don't hesitate to just bring it in. I usually get it back same day if it's a popped tire or other simple fix. They installed a kid seat on my bike for my daughter, and answered my many many questions about it. My bike is 12 years old and still on the road because of these guys. The best. read more

I broke a pedal (my fault) and brought it in on a Saturday to see when they could take it in and fix it - did it on the spot and didn't even charge me. Flo knows bikes! Walked into his shop to ask about replacing my bike, which had a frustrating, annoying, mysterious problem of weekly flat tires (tubes). This was a result of the shop-that-shall-remain-nameless (Grove St. Bikes) replacing my tires last year. After replacing 4 tubes last year (2 in one day) & 6 tubes in 4 weeks this summer, I got tired of hearing "that's normal." And so we went to Flo - I was ready to dump this bike. First thing he said was "that's a good bike, why would you replace it?" Explained what had been happening & he said the rims on the bike were pinching the tube and causing the frequent flats. He suggested stronger tape inside the frame & to try a different tube and if that didn't work, we'd have to consider replacing the rims or tires. He didn't want to take $ for the replacement tubes, offering to let me ride around for a week or 2 and if they held, then call him with my credit card. Who does that?? Unfortunately, after a week, one of the tubes went flat. Back we went. Flo gave me a loaner bike & went to work - one week later, new rims, new gears, almost new bike! I'm fairly sure Florentino didn't charge me as much as he could have - he's got a customer for life and a raving fan. read more
