The owner of this shop is always great and my experience with him was awesome. When the owner isn't present and his workers are running the shop...it's HORRIBLE! They are rude, dismissive, and there seems to be an underlining animosity towards non-hispanics and black people...As a black person in America, you learn to pick up on the non-verbal passive aggressiveness. Its unfortunate for the owner because he is a great spirit and always conducts good business. The service at Jersey Cycles is always great and prices are fair. I've brought my bike for several tune-ups and repairs, and even rented one of their hybrids for a tour ride. They are always finished with my bike within an hour, so I usually get to indulge in a quick lunch or coffee/cake at Rumba's Cafe across the street, or just pick up quick groceries at C-Town next door. Luca is very friendly and experienced, he gladly provides helpful suggestions and answers any random bike questions you might have. I love that they're a local small business, and that you don't walk in feeling like this is a snobby bike shop that's only for fancy carbon road bikes. They also carry all the biking accessories you might need -- gloves, cycling clothing, locks, bottle racks, lights, bells, spare tubes, baskets, handlebar bags, etc... I came in here a week or so ago with my friend to look at bikes. He was buying I was making a mental wish list. This little shop is great. The owner & staff are so friendly and bend over backwards to help you. They are really knowledgeable, but not only that they are so enthusiastic & excited to talk bikes. Sure it's a business, but you can tell they take personal satisfaction when someone gets fitted properly for the right bike and walks out of their happy. I think the inventory they carry is priced right as the lines of bikes they offer are great values considering what you are getting. I was talking to one of the employees about what I ride and how I like to ride. He made a bunch of suggestions, showed me some options, and seemed really amp'd to get my bike in for an evaluation & possible handlebar upgrade. I will definitely take it here in the spring to do just that, and will update this review if the service & end product is anything less than spectacular. read more

Massive dose of attitude I called to ask them to assemble a bike I was going to purchase. This is my first time purchasing a bike and I was deciding between a mountain and hybrid. I politely asked what is the difference between a mountain and hybrid. In a condescending voice, I was told one is for mountain and one is for hybrid riding. Many thanks for clearing that up! Such a ripoff. Don't bother with the "tune up". My bike still had cobwebs on it after they were done! For $79 all they do is grease gears and wipe down your bike. Before getting the service I called ahead and asked if they did what other local shops do as part of a tune up like adjustments to brake, gear and headset. They said they "do everything" but then 4 hours later when I went to pickup my bike it looked like nothing had been done. They couldn't tell me what they did. There is no description or checklist of what a "tune up" includes or what was performed. Such a waste of money to pay them for virtually no service or maintenance. Also, beware when you are buying tires from them. They do not give you back your old ones. When I came in I had barely used mountain tires and bought a second set of street tires. When I returned to pick up my bike after the "tune up" they told me they had already thrown them out. I assume they just plan to resell them. I would not return. Too many other bike shops to bother with this poor service. read more

Located in a little shop on Central Ave I peeped this fixed gear bike parked outside for a really great price. Since I haven't biked in going on 15yrs or so, I decided to bring my buddy who bikes often to give me his expert advice. When we came back the guys there were super helpful. Willing to work with us on what I wanted and what would work best for me. Ended up getting a fixed gear for a little more that the bike outside and I'm super excited. They offer a layaway plan which considering it's too cold out to bike anywhere is really the way to go. They also offer a one year warranty on their products as well which is sweet. If your looking to be more active and want to bike I really think this is the place to check out. I love stopping in and saying hey to these guys and I can't wait to get on my new ride. read more

Have had tune-ups and gone back and been given free adjustments in the same 12 months. Had cables, cassette, break pads and chain replacements. All needed. Other recommendations have been made for free, including what to look for in a new bike to fit my needs. Luca has given free instruction on many things, including how to, and what to watch out for, when changing a flat in addition to many other things. The only attitude I've experienced is helpful. After storing my bicycle in a shed for a few sad months, I rode the bike (flat tires and all) up hilly Central Avenue with the hope of finding help at Jersey Cycles. Riding a flat-tired bike up a hill while some smart-aleck teenagers laugh at your deflated rubbers is slightly demoralizing. In fact, I dreaded asking the guys at Jersey Cycles to help me. Thankfully, the scene was nothing at all like my worst nightmares and instead went something like this: Me: Hi, my tires need air. Friendly, non-judgmental guy: Bike been in storage for a while? Me (sheepishly): Yes. Guy: We have an air hose right outside for that purpose. Me: It's free? Guy (gets up to help me): Of course! He fills my tires with air while I watch with gratitude. Me: Do you recommend a tune-up? Guy (does a more than cursory examination of my bike): You might want to get your brakes tuned up. Me (while he tinkers with the front wheel lock): I never really figured out how to use that thing. Guy (teaches me something new): Oh, it's easy. Had a flat tire on my bike at Liberty State Park so I called this place and they were so kind on the phone. They said if it's something other than the inner tube they'd be glad to fix it, but if the inner tube needed to be changed it was only $18. So we drove over and they were quick and friendly. This is hands down the best bike shop in jersey city. PRICES are super reasonable. I ride a Shwinn 700 hybrid. I actually love my bike. It does come with a slew of problems mainly the gears. Yes I ride a bike with gears. They always need adjusting. Fixing a flat (I know I know I should be doing this myself) but I hate taking off the back tire. The worker noticed that my chain is rubbing against my back tire. He quickly called me and said that he can fix the problem for cheap. I gave him the ok. My bike is riding the smoothest ever! As others have said, this place is fantastic! I took a bike here last weekend to be put together. The staff we nice and helpful. It only cost $30 (I think, maybe $35) to get my bike put together and it was ready in less than an hour! We had shopped around for a place and this option was much cheaper than the other bike shops in the area. The work is guaranteed for 30 days, or you can take it back and they will fix it. I needed a light (I sometimes ride in the dark), a pump, and a lock and I really liked how the staff were not pushy to up-sell me on any of these things, they just wanted me to have the right accessories. As far as accessories go, they have tons of options to suit anyone's needs! I also liked how they didn't seem snobby with me since I am a novice biker and don't know much about accessories or biking in general. Will definitely be back soon! read more

I've been in here for a few different things and with two different bikes. Each time I walked out of there and say, "I like this place". The staff is friendly and they have a GREAT variety of bikes/accessories in all different price points. The first time, I brought in my road bike for a tune up. I was used to paying upwards of $70 at my previous shop so imagine how shocked I was when it was WAY less. They broke out the cost to clean your bike instead of just including it which helps make it cheaper. The next time I went in, I brought my single speed that I ride daily to JSQ. I got sick of carrying a backpack and decided to get a basket. When I told them it's my commuting bike, they didn't try to upsell me to a more expensive removable basket, they installed it right then AND there was no additional charge. I just bought a bike online and brought it here to have them put it together. The first good sign was that, when I called, I didn't get any grief about bringing in an internet bike. The second good sign was when they help my fiancée take the bike box out of my car (don't judge me for having my woman do my dirty work, somebody needs to make the medium bucks.) The third good sign was, when I went into the shop to pick up my bike (within a couple hours of dropping it off) they had prices that were right in line with the website I purchased from. I wish I knew that because I like to purchase local but I also like to eat; their prices will allow you to do both. Their tuneup/assembly prices are the best around, they did a great job with my new bike (in hours, not days) and I'll be bringing in my 18-year old mtn bike for a tuning soon. Super-approachable, reasonable, casual experience. With the staff's guidance, I picked out a bike in fifteen minutes (and I am a chick!) after two rides on two different bikes. I bought a hybrid, had the seat swapped for a small fee after identifying a seat I liked better, had a water bottle cage (color-coordinated-who knew) added, wheel locking system installed, bike-lock bracket installed, bell and lights put on all in less than 15 min. I asked a bunch of questions that were very happily answered. I felt like I bought a bike I love from a friend I trust and the only reason I went to this place is because the reviews on here were so great. I will be attending a flat-tire class soon. After checking out several bike shops to pick out a bike for a newbie, I finally decided to get one here at Jersey Cycles instead of other stores nearby. Their outstanding customer service clinched it for me. Luca, (a true educator), one of the guys there helped me out from picking the bike, to teaching me how to maintain it and actually continuously gives me advice on bikes. Their prices are relatively good in comparison to most online stores. They didn't have the biggest selection but would be willing to order whatever you wanted. The store at that time was pretty new (I think my bike was the first one officially sold), clean and was setup that any work needed on your bike can be done immediately. A few months after that, I came in for some items such as a lock, helmet and such. Luca wasn't there but the other guys I've met were at the same level of friendly and non-judgemental attitude. In fact, one stopped me from buying stuff I didn't need. I give respect to salesmen who wouldn't sell you stuff and tells you have all you need. The store was a little more crowded now, with more people browsing but you wouldn't have to wait a long time to get helped. Finally a few days ago, I went in to have my tire repaired. The guys there helped me out immediately. However, without even riding it, the tube deflated on itself the following day. I brought it in the next day and they replaced the tube without any questions asked. Service doesn't go well all the time in any field, but the fact that they take care you if something goes wrong goes a long way. All in all great store, great service. read more

I drove almost 20 minutes to get up to the Heights because I thought Grove St Bike was a little out of my price range and they had a two week waiting period for their repair shop. My grandmother left me this awesome '60s foldable bike that definitely needed some TLC. This place is the best. They have the nicest staff. I dropped my bike off on Sunday at 2pm and they said they would have it ready that evening. I ended up picking it up the next day at 130pm. It was waiting for me. The price was great and they even shined her up for me. I will definitely be going back to get her fully upgraded. read more
