Since i wasn't too hungry i got some sliders. I was glad i chose this place today. I havent seen my friend in over half a year and we wanted a chill place to eat and chat and enjoy the weather. This place has the feel of a diner but it seems kind of fun. They have a huge window to let in the fresh air and sunlight so it's not stuffy and overbearing with the smell of grease. The menu is nice, simple and can be easily explained. They have a little bit for everyone's taste from hungry hungry meat either who wants bacon burgers to sliders and even a kid's menu. I ordered two turkey sliders (which came with fries (i chose the 50/50 which was half sweet potato fries and half potato frieds)) and my friend ordered the beef sliders. I enjoyed my turkey sliders very much because it was soooo juicy and well seasoned. i've definitely never enjoyed any turkey patty as much as this one. As for my friend's beef slider it came with a special sauce and some chopped sautéed onions. The beef patty were also very juicy with a thin line of pink in the middle. The sweet onion and the special sauce made it taste even better. Also my friend ordered a chocolate shake which was thick, creamy and delicious! I love the fact that they have many flavors to choose from. The fries were nice and crispy and i love their selection of mustard from Coney island's mustard to sweet and hot mustard. Best place to sit is the counter because you can see how everything is made. Very nice, Very clean, and i appreciate that they also promote the sustainable movement with their free ranged animal products. I will come back again soon. read more

Very average at best. The bun became soggy almost immediately, draining a patty isn't that hard, who wants soggy bread, no one I know. The mushrooms were good and fresh so that was nice. Now the garlic fries, not bad, fresh garlic, they use thin fries, but have had much better. Would I go back? No. I don't crave hamburgers too often, so when I do I want a super delicious one. Trueburger is less expensive and tastes better, including the fries.. Lakeshore is not a street I've looked to for great food, Grand Ave is a bit better. read more

Flipside wins with a neo-classic 50s dinner appeal. Red and silver bar stools, milkshakes, bottled beer, sodas, fries. Even has a modern touch to it with reasonably fresh organic beef, choice of bun (like white bread, or multi grain), choices of meat (Beef, turkey, chicken, veggie burger). Their biggest obstacle is price. Their basic burger is just under $9... that's a tough sell. (bongo burger in Berkeley makes the best damn burger ever (with all your favorite organic sustainable etc meat notes as well) local made bread... $6. Soooo, I dunno. At any rate--decided if I'm getting a burger, might as well get the fries (comes with the meal) got curly fries--extra charge. Asked for more lettuce and tomato--extra charge. Asked for a drink--extra charge. Total = $16.25. Burger, fries, soda. Got the bill--tip option ::sigh:: $2. Total was over $18 :( The burger was dry and oddly tough. The bread was good but a bit doughy and squishy. The taste was pretty bland. All and all, the facility is nice, the music is fun, the people are okay. But I'm not interested in spending this much money for lunch. Unreasonably overpriced for what you get. Everything is good here but way over priced. I like how they have a lot of options from the type of meat, to toppings and even sides. I always get a burger with teriyaki sauce and pineapples. I've always seen this place, and have finally got to try it out. It was pretty empty on a Tuesday around 2PM, with only a few other people there. There's a lot on the menu from burgers to salads. I ended up sharing a burger with my sister. We decided on the Lakeshore Heat because we wanted something spicy. Lakeshore Heat had sauteed green chilies and grilled onions, jalapenos, jack cheese, fresh jalapenos and chipotle aioli. We upgraded our regular fries to garlic fries because who doesn't love garlic fries! While ordering our food at the counter, the man who took our order didn't seem like he wanted to be there. He barely spoke to us and just simply took our order. He just tossed the receipt and the pen on the table for a signature. His attitude made me not want to be there anymore. He gave us our number and that was it. We sat and the food kind of took long, but I didn't mind too much. They ended up forgetting about our garlic fries so we had to tell them. I would think that the fries were tossed in garlic, but the other guy took it back and threw a few garlic mix on the fires and brought it back out. Flipside is a kitchy, 50's(ish) burger joint that plays doo-wop music within walking distance of the lake. Yes pleeeez!! Burgers are generously sized and come with your choice of bread, cheese, veggies, and sauces. They have some specialty burgers - the Hangover stands out, smothered in cheese, an egg, bacon and fries - but you can also just get a plain burger, grilled juicy and served straight up. It's not the best burger you've ever had, but it's hearty, meaty and flavorful. The fries are reminiscent of McD's, but in a crunchy, deep-fried, this-is-a-compliment way. Adam's Burger buried themselves with high prices, sub-par quality and outdated decor (may you rest-in-peace).. Kwik Way has tried to reinvent themselves as a gourmet drive-in with high prices, small portions and meh quality offerings. The cafe down the street has a mini burger (1/4 lbs?) with fries/fruit combo for $.55 less and the cheesesteak shop across the street has a no frills burger for a little over half the price... and then on the flip-side (get it? FLIPSIDE, LOL), we have a rose that grew from concrete! A few co-workers and I have been anticipating Flipside's grand opening since there were no good burger joints on the block and Anh's was a bit too far for an OK burger; TrueBurger/Barney's was even further for a premium burger. Wow. This was unexpectedly good. First off, the portions are great. I love big portions since I can eat a lot, and the burgers + fries were very satisfying. Overall, it was decent but not amazing. When I try a new burger place, I always get a hamburger, to really taste the burger (plus I am lactose intolerant). To me, the burger may be too big. The patty is half a pound, and I wish there was at least a quarter of a pound choice. The meat was cooked to the medium I requested, but it lacked seasoning, some salt and pepper would be nice while it is cooking. I ordered it with a side order of curly fries, which were fine. The best curly fries are the ones at Barney's. The basic parts of a burger were there and the portion is generous, but I wish the bun was softer. It was super heavy with 1/2 patty. The flip sauce was nice but I have had better. My boyfriend got regular fries which were much better and seasoned. He got the hamburger with jalapeno jack which gave it a nice kick. The food was more like 3 stars but the wait for my burger was about 25-30 minutes. Based on looking around, most people were just like me: looking around and waiting for food to come out. While looking back at the kitchen they seemed confused and overwhelmed with the full house. The staff was friendly and courteous but it couldn't make up for the long wait. I got the specialty burger (mushrooms, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, bacon) with onion rings for around $14 and it simply wasn't worth the price, especially with Trueburger and Umami so close by. The burger was sizable and cooked medium as I requested but it lacked flavor. Maybe more salt? It was loaded though, lots of onions, mushrooms and bacon but still lacked flavor somehow. I'm hoping my last visit to Flipside was just a fluke. I always get a burger on Texas toast because no one in California knows about Texas toast, which is thick cut and buttery because it's grilled on both sides like grilled cheese sandwich. The last burger I got had regular dry toast. I mean I realize in this time it might have been out of it but I'd rather just be told that they're out of Texas toast so I can just order a regular bun. My friend that goes with me is generally gluten-free but she makes an exception for Texas toast. Still think it's the best burger in the East Bay I just hope they get the Texas toast when I go in next time. read more

I come to Flipside when I'm craving a really filling burger (black bean all the way!) and they have some of the best fries I've had in Oakland. The decor inside is bright and it's always clean, which I appreciate. There are plenty of tables, some outside on warmer days but I take my order to go the majority of the time. The folks who work here are kind enough, and there's usually a game playing on the TV. I brought my friend here once and she was lowkey overwhelmed at how good their burger and shake was. It's really well made! I'm not in the area often and I'm not always craving a burger and fries, but when I am, I come here 100% of the time. read more
