The rice was extremely mushy and oily, the dolma are from cans or tastes exactly like canned dolma and not homemade dolma, the hummus was ok, not wonderful, the Baba Ghanouj was actually good, but the Sambusa and Kibbeh were tiny cocktail sizes. The Sambusa are by no means anything close to the quality of Rwandan, Somali, and Ethiopian Sambusa and this place charges nearly double what one will pay for 3x Sambusa twice the size of theirs. How is this authentic or Middle Eastern? It's on par with all the other bad or average Middle Eastern food in Raleigh. The only good Middle Eastern food in 919 is Flame Kabob and Habibi Grill so far. We stopped by for a quick bite after a soccer game. We ordered the traditional Palestinian Maklouba, Msakhan, Maftoul and the kibbeh. Everything was flavorful and tasty. I love the idea, but these dishes seriously lack seasoning and that authentic mediterranean or middle eastern flavor: maybe some zaatar or lemon or cardamom or idk... just something. Food was good but a bit pricey in my opinion. Appetizer of mixed items was great. For main dish we ordered the Maklouba it was ok but the presentation or flip part of it was a flop the waitress couldn't get all the rice out. If you have the mint lemonade note that refills are not free and $8 for two glasses of lemonade seemed ridiculous but that was my fault for not asking before requesting another glass. My husband and I came here after hearing about this place for weeks. We loved our experience. The decoration was so refreshing and had such beautiful nods to Palestinian culture. I especially enjoyed reading the historic pictures of Palestine back in the early 1900s. The owner came out and greeted us, and talked to us a little bit about her purpose for the restaurant. Our favorite part was how she was trying to bring a "home cooked" feel to her dishes. We think she knocked it out of the park. The kibbeh was so flavorful but did not feel oily or greasy at all. The grape leaves were fresh and palate cleansing. Maklouba was the star of the show-- from the presentation to the flip to the flavor. We finished the entire thing. We finished off with a slice of Knafeh and sage black tea. 10/10 recommend Flip It if you haven't been yet! It will not disappoint! read more

Check this place out! Flip It is a quaint little casual restaurant tucked back in the Poynar Place shopping area. The menu is authentic, the seating is comfortable and stylish, and the dining area and restroom are very clean. I have a serious gluten allergy and the owner was very helpful in knowing what I could and couldn't eat. We had stuffed grape leaves, hummus where she gave me cut up cucumbers to dip. I ordered Maklouba (Upside Down) which is brought table side and flipped over onto your plate to reveal the layers of chicken, vegetables and broth over rice. Disappointed and underwhelmed. My wife and I were excited to try Flip It, a Palestinian restaurant we had heard some buzz about. Unfortunately, our experience left us pretty disappointed. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was... off. The restaurant was completely empty and there was only one person working the entire place. No greeting, no smile, no "thank you"--just silence. We placed our order and waited, but during our entire meal, no one checked in on us--not even once to ask if we needed drink refills or anything else. The appetizers were actually decent, which gave us some hope. But then came the main course--the dish that's supposedly the restaurant's namesake and theme. It's supposed to be flipped over with a signature crust, but what we got was barely flipped and definitely missing that crispy, flavorful crust we were expecting. It just felt lazy. By the end, we had a $70 tab for a very underwhelming experience. Mediocre food, inattentive service, and a completely empty dining room--not exactly what we had in mind for a night out. This restaurant specializes in Maklouba, a dish which is flipped onto a plate when it is served. I didn't order that, so take that into consideration when reading this review. I took my daughter here when I was looking for a quick bite to eat with her. We came on a Sunday night and there was only one other party when we arrived. We were seated very quickly, but service after that was a bit slow. The menu was rather limited, so we decided to go for some appetizers and drinks. We ordered a fruit punch soda, Ayran (a yogurt drink), kibbeh, beef samosas, and hummus. Bluntly, we weren't terribly impressed with anything we ordered. The fruit punch soda was good at first, but had a grassy aftertaste. The Ayran was quite diluted; I'm used to it have a more yogurt-y flavor. The samosas and kibbeh were decent, but basically the same dish. You can get the samosas filled with cheese or beef. When ordering, we asked our waiter which he recommended, and he suggested the beef even though we were basically getting the same filling in another dish. The hummus was under salted and lacked flavor, despite visibly having other spices on it. After adding some of the table salt, it was better, but nothing special. It also came out much later than our other appetizers and only after I asked about it; it's clear that this part of the order was forgotten. Also, this restaurant has a surcharge for credit cards, so bring cash if that's something you want to avoid. Don't bother coming unless you specifically want maklouba, there are other better middle eastern restaurants. read more
