Fleet Feet is a small running shoe store where they do a foot scan and help you with trying on different shoes. I am skeptical of the foot scan as my friend who is a former employee calls it "all smoke and mirrors." They don't usually have sales on their running shoes, as they only offer a limited selection of the latest, most expensive models. They have a treadmill in store. This location has a small parking lot that is very awkward to turn into and out of on the busy street. I think it's really nice the employees don't make commission, so there isn't pressure to buy shoes on the spot. I tried on seven pairs of shoes and didn't find any of them to be very comfortable. For a store that emphasizes trying on a variety of running shoes, their return policy is not conducive to that. They allow returns within 30 days, but the shoes must be unworn. You don't know if a running shoe feels good until you actually run in them. read more

I had always wanted to get my foot scanned because my feet would always hurt and I would always attribute it to me having flat feet and being on my feet all the time due to the nature of my job as a nurse. I came across Fleet Feet on TikTok as I was looking up Hokas. This was overall a great experience and it was thanks to Santiago. It did take a few minutes for someone to help me when I walked it but it was pretty busy and there were several employees already helping customers through their shoe journey. When Santiago did come up to me, we first did a scan of my feet with my shoes off and then he had me walk to analyze my gait. Afterwards, they sit you down and go through the scan with you and discuss your sizing, arch, and width, and anything outstanding they've noticed from your scan and gait. I was told that I have pretty significant ankle pronation on both sides which could be seen in both my scan & how I walk. I had a feeling I had this issue because I have rolled and sprained my ankles a looooot while playing sports over the years so this made sense. He then showed me with my current shoes that I was wearing how that was affecting the shape of my shoe physically which I do notice more now. Based on this, he recommended a stability shoe. He asked if I had a specific brand of shoe in mind when I walked in and I told him no and thus gave him full range to grab whatever brands and styles he thought would be best for me. He came back with 4 boxes - Saucony, ASICS, Brooks, & New Balance. He was really thorough in explaining what made each shoe unique and the key differences that would match what I needed in a shoe based on my stats. He also gave me plenty of time to try each one on and walk throughout the store to see how I liked the fit and feel without making me feel rushed in any way. Once I picked out a shoe I liked, he brought out the different colors that they had in store for me to see which one I liked most. I ended up choosing the ASICS Gel-Kayano 32s. This was a seamless process and I really enjoyed learning more about my body and how to go about picking what my feet needed to be happy. Best store in Houston to buy running shoes! They have a machine they have you stand on that measures the size of your foot, arch height, and width. They then watch your gate to determine which shoes would work best. I thought this whole time that I had supination but I found out I actually have pronation. Rob (shoe specialist) was spot on with the first shoe he had me try on. They don't work on commission so they aren't pushy at all, just there to help you with their vast knowledge. They didn't have the color of shoe I wanted but the Greenbriar location did so Rob called them and placed them on hold for me. After looking at reviews, I walked in the store today to get my first pair of "real" running shoes. Once I walked in, I looked around, and then Gina came across the store and asked me if I have been helped yet. I told her I was looking at doing a 3-D scan and gait analysis for my feet and she gladly helped me. I shared with her my running experience and goals, she watched me walk to back of store and back, then we did the scan. We thoroughly went through the 3-d image on the iPad, she explained everything about my feet, then recommended me some shoes to try on. She went above and beyond my expectations. Getting multiple brands, checked my fit/size, insisted on me walking on them, jogging in front of store or on treadmill, asked me questions about each one's fit. Gina was so personable. Gave me her full attention. I loved it. After finding the one that felt the best, she insisted on showing me all the colors to make sure I got the one I wanted. Sam, you are a fine runner and know a decent amount about shoes and technology, BUT nothing about anatomical and gait issues. Recommending support shoes when one foot is neutral forces compensation which, in turn, tends to increase inflammation and recovery times. Often leads to degenerative conditions. If two feet are different the only sound approach is a neutral shoe with properly prescribed, molded orthotics. Unlike th off the shelf, these are no only molded to the athlete's anatomy, these align the strike. Yes, costly, but then again, medical bills, treatment and downtime cost far more. Sadly, from that said to me, the staff is trained to treat the worst foot, not the situation. At least Luke's Locker had to tier training for shoe fitters. Miss 'em. read more

Eddie is awesome! Stopped by here today because I was way overdue for a new pair of trainers. I'm not a runner but I take long, brisk daily walks so I wanted something that felt soft underfoot but still supportive. Eddie spent more than an hour going through pair after pair with me, talking me through the different features and making sure I found the perfect pair. It was nice to have someone really listen to you and trust that how you feel in the shoe is more important than what might be on the label or in the product details--he encouraged me to go with my gut rather than try to persuade me to get something that didn't feel right. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to purchase a new pair of running shoes which is something I do twice a year. A long time ago, I settled on the New Balance 990 series of shoes as my preferred choice and usually buy them online or at a factory outlet store at a lower price. I know my size and they always fit perfectly. This time, I noticed that those locations were no less expensive than regular retail stores. I'm not sure if that's because of the pandemic but it's that reason that brought me here. I met Jerry, one of the salesmen, at the front door and explained my running background and the fact that I have only worn NB 990's. He had me stand on a measuring machine to determine if that shoe was proper for me and the machines measurements agreed. We discussed the 990's and he asked me if I would consider another NB model which I said yes to trying on a pair of the 860's. The 990 ($180) is a heavier and sturdier shoe where the 860 ($140) is lighter and a little bouncier along with being less money. I didn't care about saving the money as quality running shoes are very important health wise and the 990's have worked for me so long. After walking around the store with both types, I decided to take a chance and try something new besides with their money back guarantee there was little risk. I ran in then for the first time in a 5K last weekend and really liked them. They offer a different look, are lighter and with the Fresh Foam X technology provide a lot of cushion. Jerry was a pro using consultative selling skills and in this case actually sold me shoes that were cheaper than I was going to buy. After he assessed my feet, I learned that I've been supposedly wearing the wrong size shoe for years lol with that machine cool machine. So that was interesting to know. I love this store! My feet hurt so bad after several 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I kept buying random brands and styles of shoes that people suggested that I try and nothing helped. I stood on this machine and they watched me walk to get an idea of what I needed. I came to Fleet Fleet because my right foot started to bruise every time I ran. I tried everything and it didn't help. The guy (sorry I don't believe I got his name) helped me as soon as I stepped in the store. He assessed my feet and I found out that my running sneakers were too small. I usually wear a size 9 but my feet measured around 9.1, which meant that the 9 didn't give my feet enough room. I also learned that I had a high arch and neutral footing (I hope I said that right lol). He helped me pick out new sneakers and he was very patient with me. After having lots of pain in my feet from having taken up running 3 miles everyday I came here after a friend suggested them. Wanted to pick up my shoes and still get in my 3 miles for the day - Chris (whom I recommend) was awesome - we got the 3D model of my feet and after watching me walk the catwalk (to gauge the gait and because I am awesome), were able to determine what I needed. Let me tell you it was day and night the next time I ran - what a huge difference it has made. Where as I used to do it because I had to now I look forward to it and want to. If your looking for a place to get athletic shoes and need help getting the right selection to fit your specific needs - this is definitely a place to consider. I was initially annoyed by the staff since it took awhile for someone to get to me but Chris really knocked it out of the park with his service and obvious knowledge - I'll definitely be going back. I was long overdue for a new pair of quality shoes that offer good support and had no idea what I was really looking for. I came in to get my feet measured and get some direction on the best shoes for me. Manny brought out plenty of pairs that would suit my feet well and was very patient as I tried to pick a pair that felt best. I'm enjoying the shoes I got so far and look forward to returning for another pair I wanted. Love this place! I had an older gentleman who was helping me and he was great. He didn't rush me through picking a shoe or anything and really took his time to help me. He went through my running shoe history and then evaluated my walking form before selecting some shoes for me to try on. I tried each on and then he evaluated my running form with them on while outside. I ended up picking a hoka shoe similar to what I had before, but was really pleased with the service and experience i received!
