I recently started running and my left knee was hurting due to an old injury. I'm a Nike lover and have always based on my sneaker purchases on style and color, which I guess was fine in my 20s, but now I need something more. About 8-9 years ago, I went to Fleet Feet for a pair of running shoes and was fitted with the Nike Pegasus and really enjoyed the service and experience. So even though I didn't need a new pair of sneakers (I already have 13 pairs cause I'm a legit shopaholic), I decided to go back to Fleet Feet for some expert opinion. I made an appointment online earlier in the day and I'm glad I did. They were a couple of people in there already and the guy who was helping someone else (a walk-in) actually told him that he's going to have to help me first since I had an appointment. I was surprised that he did that, but also appreciative that he did because it seemed like the gentleman had walked in only a couple of minutes before me so I probably would have waited a while if he had to finish helping him. They have this new 3D foot scanning machine now and it's pretty cool! I now know so much more about my feet's profile which will surely help with all my future shoe purchases. They can make custom inserts based on the scanning results but they're like $150 a pair. I wasn't ready to make that kind of commitment yet so I ended up just getting 2 pairs of $50 inserts that I'll be able to use in most of my sneakers where the original inserts are removable. I've been using them for the last week or two in various sneakers and they've worked pretty well. I don't have any pictures of my visit there but here's a pic of my current workout sneaker collection, which includes the purple Nike Pegasus I got from my first visit to Fleet Feet years ago. I can only say this location has amazing service. As a new arrival in Buffalo, I went to two sneaker stores and Macy's. Macy's no longer carries sneakers at the Boulevard Mall. The two other stores one local and one a large chain where the service was so BAD , I had to leave. It is so embarrassing. No wonder retail is dying. At least at Fleet Street they were attentive and courteous. Unfortunately. I picked out 3 pairs, no size 10.5. Went home ordered on-line. I tried Buffalo but customer service in our retail establishments needs to improve, or all the stores will go the way of the Boulevard Mall. read more

Fleet Feet is a great place to go for running shoes, clothing, stickers for your car, and gels to eat during long races. The staff is friendly and helpful. I used to go here frequently to buy sneakers and other items. (This was 4/5 years ago, when I was paying to run in one of their paced run groups. Prior to Covid, Fleet Feet pacers led pace groups for those wishing to run fast and/or to help their endurance. They had long run groups on Saturday mornings and speed groups on a weeknight.) They still have a rewards program, which is great. After spending $150, you'll get a $15 coupon, which is valid for six months. (If you don't use the app, the employees can look you up in their system.) I bought a great pair of wool mittens on Saturday, when I was in the area, because I managed to lose one of every glove that I own. After buying the mittens, I had enough to get $10 off of my next order. It wouldn't be valid until the following day. I came back today and bought marked down light gloves that have a cover so they turn into mittens. It'll block more of the wind and coldness, while I'm running or walking. I used the $15 coupon, so they came to $10.48. This is a great place to buy anything a runner might need. It's usually pricy but I'm glad I stopped here today and five days ago for my recent purchases. read more

I had such an amazing experience at Fleet Feet! I was able to get a new pair of running shoes and two pairs of socks for under $150. Everything was decently priced and the staff was very professional. I called for an appointment and was promptly seen when I arrived. I was directed to sanitize my hands when I walked in and each seating area was tapped off so I felt every COVID precaution was made. They have you step on a machine and measure your feet, and discuss which shoe options would be best. I know they offer running groups two times a week, but have not recently due to COVID. I love Fleet Feet. This chain of stores originally opened my world to the joy of running almost 8 years ago. I remember buying my first pair of running shoes here and spending close to $100 on it. I remember how the employees asked me to run on a treadmill while recording a video of it and thereafter gave me suggestions on form as well as what shoes work best for the type of support I need. Perhaps some of it was theatrics, but it helped me feel confident about my purchase. And in the world we live in, with thousands of choices for running shoes and every company having their own marketing agenda trying to convince me to buy their shoes...some confidence in the purchase I'm making is highly valued. With Fleet Feet, I don't really have to research too deeply about what shoes to get. Their employees are very knowledgeable and will help me figure out what works well. Sure recommendations such as "Brooks are great if you're injury prone" from friends who run marathons are valued, but if I come in here with nothing, that's fine too. A few years back, I came in here and left with a pair of barefoot running shoes and tried that for a few years. Although a great experience, ultimately when I started training for a marathon I decided that running with barefoot shoes would be too much of a feat (especially after I started receiving injuries) and came in here and bought another pair of shoes. Yes, I spent probably around $100 on them, but oh god how great my feet felt hitting the pavement in those things. ...and this store has more than just running gear. The other day I picked up a pair of swimming goggles here. I didn't even think that this place could have it and before coming here stopped in Target, Kohls and Big Lots...only to find they have a pair. It cost $21, but hopefully it will last and not me like the last flimsy pair I got that broke rather quickly (and had trouble staying on my face). Need winter running gear? This place will have it, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny. Like $300+ for tights and a winter running jacket. Oof. They will have accessories to keep your water bottle or iPod / phone hoisted on your waist as well and those gels that you can eat while running long distances to keep your glycogen levels flowing. Best of all, if you know very little about running and just come in there and tell them you're getting your first pair of running shoes they will help you and help you feel comfortable with your purchase. I know that after I spent $100+ on my first pair of running shoes, I invested far too much to give up. Spending that money gave me the physiological jolt I needed to commit to my training and I haven't looked back since. Awesome place, but prices are a bit steep. read more

(http://tehomet.net/zadie.php) From fame to fortune to muscle definition to 24/7 sushi, she runs through a list of the things we've all been trained to crave, and reveals them all as illusory, transient pleasures ... all of them, that is, besides a pair of new trainers. (She's British, so she means sneakers.) She writes, "In the end, it's New Trainers you want and don't try to tell me different. Well, the good news is you don't only think you want them. You really want them. despite their three-month life span, Nike's profits and the children who make them. Because they are beautiful, because they are Art. And as we have learnt these 20 years, Art will make you do shit like that, nine times out of ten." Like Zadie Smith, I really do believe that a pair of new, proper running shoes is one of life's great pleasures, and that there's an art to it. So, it seems, does Fleet Feet. As other reviewers have noted, this is not some generic store for uber-jocks and ten-time triathletes, wherein you're expected to go in and know exactly what you need and want. They understand that your desire to run may center on being able to make it around the neighborhood with your dog, not just to the finish line of your next 10k. They'll start with the basics, measuring your feet, checking out the rise and fall of your arch, the way your feet hit the floor. Then they'll pull out a few shoes for you, give you the sock of your choice, and lace 'em up for you tight. If you find something you like, you can run around the store, and if you take 'em home, you can come back for free Wednesday night runs around Delaware Park, where you might pick up tips on how to improve your running style (and meet other likeminded running fans of all ages!). There's something really beautiful about all of this, and that's even without remarking on the shoes, which are, indeed, works of art. Some of them are beautiful, and some are really, really ugly ... they have them all. Most pairs run about $90-150, but when you're paying for a piece of art that's not going to simply hang on your wall, but carry your weight each day as you move toward being a healthier and more awesome you, I'd say it's worth it. They're certainly cheaper than a vintage English bicycle or a hunter-green Jaguar, which are also works of art that I think I want ... but I'll stick with Zadie's contention that a new pair of shoes (ideally fitted for me at Fleet Feet) are the only pieces of art I truly need. read more

This is a nice store next to Taj Grill in Kohls Plaza. It's large and has a nice selection of running shoes and clothes for men and women. The staff are knowledgeable and very nice. Stores like this know what they want to be and focus on that. They are wise not to try to be all things to all people and as a result they offer good service. This place has all you need for any running gear. It's a little pricey, but it's high quality and the store is happy to exchange if you don't like something. They'll talk to you and hear about your own running/walking style, and help you choose what should work for you best (again, if you take it out and use it, and find it's not a good fit after all, they'll take it back). Mostly I love this store for their training programs. I signed up for the Learn to Run 5K back in 2012 and absolutely LOVED it! I never thought I'd run straight through a 5K (but always hoped I would), and this program taught me how to do it. Since then I've done several more and did the Turkey Trot, and now I'm training for a half marathon! Dreams do come true! I loved the program so much the next year I returned as a mentor for their training programs. I took a break for about a year, but Fleet Feet was happy to bring me back on as a mentor this year, so I'll be back in the saddle helping out with the Learn to Run 5K program again. With all of this running, I'll be back at the store getting running shorts, compression socks, I'm definitely going to want a water belt as I am getting pretty thirsty around my 5 mile mark, and I'm going to need a new pair of running shoes as my toenails of steel are tearing through the mesh on my current pair of shoes. You know how you go to a shoe store, pick out a pair of sneakers that look nice (maybe you trust the brand), try them on, and buy them? You don't do that here. Nope. Instead, staff at Fleet Feet first size you up, so to speak. The woman helping me had me take off my shoes and socks and took a good, hard look at my arches. She had me bend my knees and looked at my feet as they bore my weight both from front and behind. Then she had me walk barefoot, up and down the store, to get a better idea of my pronation, etc. I completely forgot that my ankle tends to roll, but she caught it. After measuring my feet while both sitting down and standing up, she disappeared into the back and brought out two pairs of shoes for me to try. It's not about buying pretty sneakers, here. It's about finding a shoe that fits well and gives support where you need it. I walked around the store to try out my shoes, but you can use the in-store treadmill, if you choose. While checking out, the sales associate signed me up for Fleet Feet's buyer program (spend $250 and get a $25 credit - they keep track for you, so you don't need to think too much about it), and let me know that they organize weekly runs for anyone who feels like stopping by. They also have other programs, like a class for beginning runners who want to train for a 5k, etc. That's pretty cool, eh? I walked out with a great fitting pair of shoes. Bought my very first pair of running shoes! For most of my life I have resisted becoming a running. Not sure while but I never liked it, mostly because I bought I couldn't do it. A lot of people in my life are runners and have tried to get me into but it never worked until recently. My best friend is traveling with me to Oakland to visit my family and discovered the Oakland Running Festival going on the same weekend. After she expressed interest on the 5K she encouraged me to do it. Despite some resistance, I decided why not? I went into Fleet Feet not knowing what I expect and not knowing anything about running shoes. I was greeted with a warm welcome. It mentioned that I needed running shoes and the girl who greeted me said that she was going to do a fitting for me. So far, so good. She had me stand and walk and then measured my feet. She brought out a few options for me and did a great job explaining each one. I went with a very nice pair of Saucony's. I'm not sure yet if I'll like running but I definitely love the fit and feel of the shoes so far. I'll be going back soon to see what new running clothes they will bring in since they didn't have a lot to choose from at the moment. read more

The only place I buy running shoes. Well, except for the Fleet Feet in Cleveland. I've had nothing but positive experiences buying shoes and gear here. When I developed plantar fasciitis a month before my first marathon and felt (I think rightfully) a little panicked that all my training was going up in smoke, I went to Fleet Feet for some new shoes and some advice. Armed with both I felt a lot better - and made it through the marathon with a respectable finish and no further injury. The shoes aren't cheap (though they are comparable with prices you find elsewhere) but when you go here you aren't just buying shoes - you're getting the backing if a knowledgable staff that actually has the knowledge to back up it products. read more

I kid you not...they will let you go for a run in the pair, and what better way to find the perfect pair for your needs?! I've been running for years and was putting 20-25 miles into my shoes when I was in high school. One of my friends from the track team told me that I should probably look in to getting some quality shoes if I wanted to continue training. I went once and I've never looked back. I get new shoes every 6-10 months now. A pair from Fleet Feet will last you more than six months. They're high quality shoes, made to last. I just took off my old pair and I could still feel the cushioned support in them, despite them looking shabby as all hell. I really like the service they provide. You enter, they chase you down to help you, measure your feet, take video of how you walk, recommend different padding for your shoe based on your arches, watch you run, and then bring out a ton of shoes that match your needs. My feet love the attention! However, this place was developed for an individual who has money. It drives me insane that I have to spend $120 on a great pair of shoes. I'm willing to treat my feet, but I have to amp myself up to spend nearly $200 with the shoe + insert. But once I buy a new pair of shoes, my world feels right again. My feet thank me, my back thanks me, my knees thank me... and if my feet always support me, shouldn't I support them too? You're welcome. *grumbles* read more

I needed new running shoes in a pinch and came across Fleet Feet Sports on Yelp. I walked in and immediately was asked by staff how best to help. The knowledgeable sales associative looked at the type of shoes I was wearing, correctly identified them as 'neutral', recommended three alternatives, laced each up for a walk test (I was asked if I wanted to take them for a test run) and I actually settled on a fourth pair. I also picked up some socks and saw they had a nice but somewhat limited selection of running apparel. Just bought my son a $200 pair of sneakers and you would think the least they could do is put them in a bag instead of just handing us a box. Then I call to see if they even carry bags and the person christin that answers the phone tells me that they usually ask if you want a bag they didnt ask us anything smh. I cant even imagine anyone making a large purchase and not needing a bag to carry that purchase. Where is the customer service at? I know nothing about what a running shoe should be therefore, I am always reluctant to spend a lot of money. So...off to Fleet Feet I go. They measured my feet, video taped me (then we reviewed it in slo mo), and showed me exactly how I walk/run. This lead to certain shoes to compensate for my pronation. I hate running. I hate everything about running. If anyone tells you they love running they are lying...runner's high my a$$!! Yet running is a necessary evil in my life due to my deep down love for food and my desire to control the size of my aforementioned a$$. I noticed over time my running shoes were giving me shin splints and running seemed to be doing more damage than good. I spoke with my dad who's a crazy marathon runner (I truly do not believe the human body is meant to run 26.2188 miles at one time...hence I believe all marathon runners are crazy) and he highly recommended Fleet Feet. Always looking to support a local business I stopped by and was blown away by the customer service. The first thing they had me do was measure my foot, and they determined that I was a half size smaller than I always thought I was. They also measured the arch in my foot and it turned out my feet are comparable to Fred Flintstone's, hence the shin splints. Finally, they put me on a treadmill and watched me run to analyze my stride. That is an awful lot of customer service for a $120.00 pair of running sneakers. Eventually they found several pairs of sneakers for me to compensate for the lack of arch in my foot and to provide the most comforting run. While they did try and up sell me on the more expensive pair of sneakers, I found the medium range shoe much more comfortable on my foot. About a year and a half later I had worn through this pair of running shoes and instead of being re-sized and fitted they had all my information on the computer. I was so impressed with their service and selection that when my girlfriend needed a new pair of running shoes I made her go there and get fitted (and she loves her new shoes). Fleet Feet is a runners paradise (even for those who hate running) and I am proud that Buffalo has businesses like this in its community. read more

Now under new ownership, this store has changed for the worse. Of course, this could be a result of the franchise. The color selection is extremely limited. Very few options. It's America people!! I really wanted to like this place. Honestly, I did. I have a soft spot in my heart for running stores, but this one comes up short. I get the feeling that salespeople think I'm about to steal something every time I walk in there. It's more like a suspicious "Can I help you?" rather than a genuine one, and then they follow me around the store when I say I'm just browsing. I once went in asking for energy gel and got a very confused and almost ridiculing look from the salesperson who didn't know what it was. When I described it, he said, "Oh, you mean GU!" Actually, gel is the correct name for the product, and GU is just one of many brands of gel. In my previous city, I have never had someone at a running store not know what gel was when I asked for it. The last 2 times I stopped by to get Sport Wash, they were out, and they took down my name and number to call when they got it again, but it was around 3 months before it was back in stock. I have never had the experience with a running store running out of Sport Wash and taking so long to get more of it. Now, I just wind up ordering from Road Runner Sports. I have a firm belief that, as runners, we should always support our local running store, which is why it took me so long to give up on Fleet Feet. I guess the reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is that I still have a soft spot in my heart for running stores on principle. I was mislead about something regarding shipping and when I spoke to the individual on the phone, instead of admitting they made a mistake, she only said "I'm sorry you feel that way", which was very unprofessional especially when I was in their run group for two years. I recently started a 5k training program, after a few years of being pretty sedentary. I was having some issues with shin splints, and thought that it might have something to do with my sneakers being a few years old. I wanted to get properly fitted, so I stopped in here yesterday. The associate who helped me was awesome! She measured my feet (like 10 different ways, I swear!), watched me walk, and began to bring me some suggestions. After trying 5 different pairs, I made a decision, and picked up some comfy socks and a pair of earbuds as well. Took my first run in them this morning, and not only was my shin pain almost completely gone, but I hit a new personal best on my pace! :-) They really know their stuff here! And while yes, good running shoes are expensive, after I got home, I googled the model I purchased, and found that the cheapest price online was the same price they charged me. I was looking to buy a thermal insulation that covered a portion of my face, neck, mouth and nose, similar to a ski mask. I seen one that closely resembled what I was looking for, the price was $28.00. I asked if they planned on having a winter sale eventually, the women said possibly closer to the end of winter. The following week I went back to the store, they said every thing was marked down 25%. I asked the sales women if this product would stretch more after wearing it for awhile, it was a tight fitting material. The sales women wasn't sure, so she asked another employee, he replied one size fits everyone. I told her I would give it a try, when I got home I put it over my face, it pressed against my nose and I couldn't hardly breath, at that point I decided not to wear it. When I went back to the store I explained the situation to the sales clerk, it was extremely tight and had a problem breathing due to the quality of the material. The sales person had looked at the sales slip and told me I couldn't return the merchandise because it was a final sale. I told him I was unaware it was considered as a final sale, the women never mentioned anything about being a final sale. If she would have brought that to my attention, I wouldn't have bought it, not knowing how it would feel or fit over my face. I had explained once again to the sales clerk what my conversation was concerning this merchandise. The sales women should have at least been honest about not being able to return the merchandise. I personally feel that their customer service skills needs improvement, due to lack of communication. I hope no one else will go through this type of a ordeal like I did. I could have been a satisfied and repeated customer for a very long time, if only the sale women would have been up front about my purchase. This product is no longer useful to me and I had wasted $18.00 dollars of my hard earned money. I'm completely dissatisfied and wouldn't be able to recommend this place to family, friends or coworkers. Due to lack of communication and not honoring a customer request for a return of this particular merchandise that wasn't worth the money or problem. It appears their main goal is to push the sale of their product onto a consumer and forget about customer service and satisfaction.
