Ventured out to Runner's Roost in search of a new pair of running shoes. I had consistently purchased Brooks running shoes but was open to any brand if it was a good fit. Unfortunately, the smallest shoe size Runner's Roost carries were still a bit too big for my teeny tiny feet. Of course Runner's Roost offered to order for me and were very knowledgeable on all things running shoes. Instead of a new pair of shoes, I left with a great new "Allen Diggs 2020" t-shirt. This place is my favorite place to get running shoes. I've been here about six or seven times. The associates are really knowledgeable about fitting your feet and figuring out what shoes work best for you, based on the way you walk and how you stand on one foot. I'm still a neutral. The young sales associate was a saint yesterday. He had a lot of patience. I was being very indecisive because the pair I originally wanted they were out of, a similar pair wasn't in my size, and the other pair didn't fit well. (I have a second job in retail where I stand and walk around. I wanted a shoe that would work well for my retail job and running.) I tried on about seven pairs of sneakers. I ended up going with a pair of Brooks Ghost 11's. I bought a pair of Teva's too. I'll definitely be back. read more

When it comes to running shoes, I wouldn't go anywhere else. They really know their stuff and can offer you suggestions based on your needs. My most recent visit was to replace a pair of sneakers I had wore out. George was extremely helpful in offering suggestions for the same shoe, as well as other similar options. I had brought in one of my old sneakers to show what I had gotten last time, and he explained the wear and what he would suggest I try as well as the same shoe. He brought me the newer version of the old shoe I had as well as two other choices. They were all good options and I went with a different shoe than before, but still comfortable and a perfect fit. It is worth the drive out to Orchard Park to purchase running items at Runner's Roost. The staff is always so helpful, pointing out the right running shoe or accessories. My most recent interaction with the Runner's Roost staff was due to my favorite running shoe style that had been discontinued by the manufacturer; Runner's Roost carries this brand but did not have my size in stock of the suggested replacement model number.They ordered the shoe for me and called to let me know when it arrived. I was also advised to try out the new model running shoe at home, on the carpet, as it was a new style for me to wear. If it was not comfortable, I could return them. Finally made myself drive out to Orchard park to see the experts. I enjoy running and have several races under my belt but an old knee injury and toe surgery have been holding me back lately. I'm currently wearing Nike Air Pegasus 35's which are ok but too snug and just not the right feel and support I need. Enter Josh from Runner's Roost. He welcomed me and helped me first by measuring my foot and educating me on the fact that you don't need the big thumbs width between the end of your big toe and the end of the sneaker. You need a running shoe that fits you correctly so it can do what it's designed to do. He also had me walk away from and back toward him to see if I need motion control or just a neutral running shoe. After talking for awhile and me telling Josh about the previous running shoes I've owned, both good and bad he had me try the Hoka Clifton 5 from yes; the clearance rack. Keep in mind there were brand new full price Clifton 6's on the main display rack. I loved the Clifton 5's!! Josh also had me try the Clifton 6's to feel the difference in the fit and ride and told me I could go outside and run in them if I wanted too. I also tried several other brands and models that Josh brought out. I ended up purchasing the Clifton 5's with no up-sales or the pushing of after market insoles just an "is there anything else I can help you with today"? I felt invited over the phone and welcomed upon arrival. I explained my work outs and my previously used running shoes. I had one on one with a lovely woman working there. She helped me try on a few pair and talked about the differences- of both cushioning and brands. She was highly knowledgeable about the products, and even shoes I described to her from my past. Brand loyal by coincidence, I was actually able to find two other brands I could invest in that really work for me. A great place to get some inspiration and gear in the "Southtowns." My first visit was almost undesirable as the associate who helped me seemed less-than-interested, and less-than-forthcoming with helpful suggestions on brand/fit. I had a gift certificate to use, and I was due for a new pair. That's why I was there. Maybe I arrived closer to closing time than opening, but that's no excuse for a cold reception. The staff at that point just didn't seemed enthusiastic about customers. The only reason I chose to drive 25 miles for sneakers a second time after this unimpressive experience, was because of a juicy little tid-bit I received at the close of my purchase. *Half-Off Sale in January.* Fast forward to January. The sale started on MLK Jr day (Score! because the BF and I had the day off....) BF and I were up early for a gym date anyway, so we made sure we got there when the store opened. We both walked out with two (or three) pairs EACH. It was buy one, get one *free* (and then 50% off the BF's third pair; they cut him a deal. ) The associates this time around were AWESOME. So helpful, as I wanted to find a pair of trail runners and wasn't sure which ones were most like my beloved brand. They steered me in the right direction and I couldn't be more satisfied. This is the only place I will ever buy shoes from ever again! I work in retail, and am on my feet on concrete floors all day, so I need to make sure I buy good shoes ever few months. The staff here is so knowledgeable, they take the time to size up your feet correctly. At first this was a little creepy, but they will even go as far as to inspect the shoes that you wore in, to see how the wear looks on them, and help find shoes with the correct arch support that you need. This place has it down to a science!! They treat you like you are the only customer in the store which is also rare to find these days In my opinion it is not any more expensive than any where, and the knowledgeable service you get is the best ever!! read more

Great at selling! Some nice shoes but customer service not so much. Brought back a birthday present but instead of store credit or buying a replacement they credited back to the buyers credit card even though I asked them not to. First I was told to supply the card for the credit then told me they had already done it without the card? I had to go back in after leaving as they gave me no receipt to show the credit. I have walked/run for many years and have never had a professional fit or consultation until now. I always bought what I thought were "good" cross trainers that I tried on in large sporting goods stores. Well... I was wearing the wrong shoes (turns out I should be using running shoes for my mileage), the wrong size, and the wrong fit! Who knew? As the very knowledgeable young man who assisted me went through my various options I marveled at the comfort right from the get-go. No breaking-in period. I realized that this is one item where personal service and fit is critical. Both employees there were actually runners, themselves. The prices might be a tad higher but the folks in the big box stores never offered me any advice like Runner's Roost did. I know that people today will sometimes go to these wonderful family stores and then buy their product at a discount store or online; somewhere with no service. Shame on them! If you use a place to try on their product and gather information, then have the courtesy to purchase your product there. You won't regret it! read more
