SOCKS, SOCKS, WONDERFUL SOCKS I've searched tirelessly to the ends of the earth for the plethora of socks one can find at the Lockport Outdoor Store. As irony would have it, the "sock promised land" was I my backyard all the time, where I don't need to run my socks thin to get there. Man, there's so many different types to choose from: Thorlo, Smartwool, Woolrich, Wigwam.... Crew cut, ankle, hiker, worker, athletic.... Wool, polyester, acrylic, polypropylene... The list goes on and on. Once you navigated the painstakingly difficult process to choose the right ones for your personal mud hole stompers, get them clad up in that merino wool and take the Lockport Outdoor Store up on their offer to travel a 1,000 miles to try to find a store like theirs, but just prepared to be disappointed when you don't. read more

The Lockport Outdoor Store is the best store for outdoor lovers to visit if you are looking to shop local, find a variety of high quality items, and interact with friendly,-- never pushy staff. I've purchased high quality gloves, mittens, long underwear, neck gaiters, socks, boots and hats here. I work and walk outside often and it can be hard to find good boots at an affordable cost. The staff will be helpful and kind but will leave you to your own browsing adventure unless you would like assistance. Madam Minus, Meet Surplus! I cant say enough about Lockport Surplus Center. I havent seen this much orange clothing since I was in Syracuse! I went in looking for camoflage clothes, but I couldn't see any (lol!) And fur! If you want something fur-lined, chances are, its here. Rabbits beware! Synthetics, too! They own more boots and plaid shirts than a field hockey team! I was hoping they'd have surplus guns and ammo, but no. The kids will be disappointed. I did finally get my husband a new set of coveralls. His old ones weren't "covering all" anymore, if you know what I mean. read more

I have been a customer for years. I have bought multiple pairs of shoes & boots for myself & my family. I purchased a pair of Rocky boots just over a year ago and I brought them in today with the soles coming off. The salesman told me there was nothing he could do. So the manager was going to talk to me, he was rude and told me there was nothing he would do. I told him I was leaving for a hunting trip and needed boots. He offered nothing, I said so i have to go somewhere else to by my boots, he said yes. That is terrible customer service, I am the General Manager of a Construction company and if I turned good customers away like that I would not have any. I am disappointed because we as a family would like a trip to the outdoor store. But no more. I will not recommend your store any more. read more

While i will admit that i shop at Dicks, Cabelas, Gander, etc., when possible i prefer to take my business to somewhere like the Lockport outdoor store. They don't have all the same items, but when it comes to footwear and apparel they are really killing it. They have all my favorite brands (namely Carrhart) and they have a nice variety of work boots. I'm an electrician and i go through work boots pretty frequently. I always try to shop here first. We also bought winter boots here for my wife, these Columbia ones that were cute (her wish) and practical (my wish). My favorite part is that they stock big and tall sizes right in store, and if you don't see what you are looking for, they will order it for you no problem. Great local shop! read more

If you've never made the drive to the ~Outdoor Store~ in Lockport, your simply missing out. The have all the seasonal apparel for all your outdoor needs. I purchased my newest ladies Sorel boots from here & have never gotten so many compliments on a pair of boots. I even had a lady stop me in store tonight (while shopping for a new pair of supportive, steel toe boots for my husband) to ask what I thought of the Sorel boots I was wearing. After we talked for a few minutes and looked through the Sorel boots, she asked if I could hang out in ladies boot section to show my boots to her husband, lol. And I did! I have several pair of ~Wig Wam~ socks from here too. They are the warmest socks around and carry a ladies style that don't slide down your ankle when you walk. After trying on 4 pairs of higher, supportive steel toe boots, my husband purchased a Mens Timberland boot that were comfortable for him, after his broken ankle and cast off as of this week. Take the Drive down Transit when your ready to treat yourself. It would be even better if ~Outdoor Store~ offered a customer appreciation sale or rewards program in future. read more

Absolutely love this store and the service! I've purchased a few pairs of boots from them over the years which are always reasonably priced and have lasted a long time. The most recent pair had a leather defect when I waterproofed them, Lockport Outdoor Store took them back immediately and refunded my whole purchase. Amazing service! read more

They carry a lot of great name brand clothing for outdoor activities. Their prices are decent but a little on the high side. They do have a clearance section which is awesome but sometimes it's sparse. Oddly it seems like every year they get swamped during that first snow storm and they sell out of most of the popular sizes in snow boots. If there is one you love they usually don't get any more in it seems. That kind of stinks considering the area we live in and our long winters. They always have staples though like work boots and Carhart clothing for workers in stock in all sizes. Just know that seasonal things don't seem to get reordered. read more

This is about 2 visits.....the first visit a particular young employee had an entitlement attitude as nepotism is obviously practiced here. There was some conversation I interrupted as I was an inconvenience to his day, not the reason for his attention. With over 2 decades of experience in retail myself, I am one of the most laid back shoppers due to nature of the job and how customers can be, especially ass holes, I get it. I did my research prior to going to the store and visited Cabelas and tried on the pair of boots wanted, so I was a lay down sale. The boots were purchased and I was given a $15 discount to $134.99 after asking given to me by another, that was fair, thank you. The boots are great. I could have even purchased them online for less but time was an issue and I needed them ASAP, in addition I like supporting local businesses. As things wear out and I use the boots daily I wanted a replacement set for when my originals die, now I have time on my hands. I found the exact same pair on Amazon.com for $117.00 and wanted to use it for leverage of at least come close in price while still supporting local business. As I entered the store for the second time I approached the shoe wall and asked to see the exact pair and asked about the price. It was a Saturday and there were other customers there, I was patient and polite. The price was $149.99, which is $15 more than originally paid 9 months earlier. I asked for the same discount or any discount even sharing my found internet price as well. This asking was met with distain and a reply by staff not worth mentioning. Again I support local business by not items marked up that might be considered price gouging. Mark them up to mark them down is fine, it's done everyday. But when that is coupled with the attitudes of the staff experienced on 2 separate occasions...it calls for concern about this business. The customer is NOT always right, but at least treat them as they are important to your business. I didn't make a stink, I simply left and let other people overspend their money there. I am sharing this with the hope that a WNY business does a better job, as I have proven you can shop elsewhere. I will return to the store, and depending on general attitude, the visit will either be my dressing room to purchase things elsewhere or for me to support local business that earns it, it's up to you.
