First time customer: My girlfriend and I are fans of Happy Hour on Fridays. We are continuously scouting for new places and we have some favorite spots already in our rotation. We went this past Friday August 29th here at Flecha for happy hour. Like I said, first time here. We had an eventful afternoon sprinkled with niceties coming from pretty much everyone there. First, like many other reviews here, we were greeted with peach margaritas served on mimosa glasses. We sat at a table closed to the bar and service was prompt. The guys running the bar (Josh and Joe), were very attentive and provided good explanation about food and drinks. So did Chris the manager who stopped by our table with complimentary guacamole and also provided advice about the different plates and what to order, what was popular, etc... At no point we had to wait for service, drinks, food...everything was nice and in a very relaxed atmosphere. We are making plans to come back and try other things in the menu. Loved the welcome drink!! Venue is gorgeous, menu fairly extensive and food was delicious. Drinks are pricey and a bit skimpy for what they charge $18 a margarita. They should serve in larger glasses honestly! We ended up ordering 6 appetizers. Outstanding was the Pistachio Goat cheese, taquitos. Boring was the guacamole and sadly the queso fundido. Flecha has so much potential, and we genuinely wanted to love it because it is Mark Wahlberg's restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience fell short. The servers were pleasant, but the hostess staff came across as dismissive and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. The food was also disappointing, bland and lacking the flavor and attention to detail expected from a restaurant of this caliber in Newport Beach. With a stronger front-of-house experience and more consistency from the kitchen, Flecha could be a great spot. read more

Early dinner at Flecha in HB. Parking can get tough but we were greeted by a complimentary Margarita by the hostess. Ambiance is rustic modern. Service by Jaylin, was on great. Served with chips and salsa, always nice to he ave while waiting for appetizers. Drinks: The mango passion fruit martini was a miss. Texture was more like a smoothie, tasting lacking. Replaced this with Rum elderflower cocktail, perfect and hot the spot. Food: enchilada mole with tofu chorizo was okay, dry. With separate small plate of beans and rice. Expected more for the price. Came here for Sunday brunch. Large party so we got seated in the open air area, which was not the vibe in this heat or humidity (not the restaurant's fault) Buffet had a large offering of Mexican items like chilaquiles, enchiladas, pan dulce, birria, chile verde, and juevos rancheros, along with more traditional American stuff like bacon, sausage, eggs beni, and waffles. There are a couple of stations where staff will make fresh omelettes and tacos, along with pancakes, concha ice cream sandwiches, and cotton candy, of all things. Overall, the food was not bad. Most everything tasted good and staff was definitely on top of replenishing. The stewed meats were on the fattier side, which is how it should be. The good thing is there is a lot of variety here so even pickier eaters should have no problem. It's decent. Nothing blew me out of the water but I also can't say I didn't enjoy. The price was also not bad compared to how much you pay to eat out nowadays. Service was the best part of our meal. We had Brandon and some other gal (name is slipping my mind) - maybe Michelle? They were both fantastic. Empty plates were cleared quickly, drinks were always full, and (Michelle) even took the time to walk me to the dessert section. Ambiance is cool. Came back to Flecha Cantina after bringing some guests here last time and having such a good experience. This is Mark Wahlberg's Mexican restaurant, and I really like the modern vibe. They even greet you with a complimentary mocktail when you walk in, which is a nice touch. Right now they have a $20 lunch special that comes with unlimited drink refills, chips, an entrée, and dessert. Such a good deal, especially for this area. I'm pretty predictable here and always get the Burrito Bowl with salmon. For dessert, I switch between the flan and churros with ice cream, and both are really good. As we walked in we were greeted by a hostess and offered complementary margaritas in small flutes. We ordered flavored margaritas to start which were delicious. The house chips and salsas were also very flavorful. Unfortunately, the food that we ordered was just ok. We ordered the enchiladas and a tablita. I would give the food 3 stars. The food wasn't bad but it also wasn't anything special or unique, it was just ok. Overall I probably return for happy hour since the margaritas were delicious. Upon entering, I was rocked by the huge bar at the entrance to the restaurant and was greeted with a margarita that was perfect on this warm and humid day. If I was here for a drink, I think i could sip about seven of these margaritas just to set the stage for a wonderful dinner. The restaurant is gorgeous with plants flowing from the ceiling like a tropical rain forrest. The food is relatively inexpensive for such nice ambiance with lunch specials and brunch menus available during the morning and mid-day. The menu has all the favorite Mexican/Spanish cuisines and really fills you up. But wait, there is dessert that follows, which can include flan or loaded churros to round out the experience. Met up with my friend Dough for dinner here on June 18th. He had been before and said their happy hour was really good. We arrived and checked-in at the front and were told there was a little bit of a wait which we didn't mind, then the hostess asked if we would like a complimentary margarita while we wait and I said yes-please! She grabbed a carafe that was sitting on ice in front of the register and proceeded to pour our margaritas in a champagne flute. The margaritas were delicious and shortly after we were seated. Our server was this really nice Asian girl/lady. I wish I got her name, because she was so on top of it. Immediately she asked if it was our first time and I said it was mine. She suggested a few of the things she likes that were on the menu and I found that super helpful and went with the birria quesitacos and the house margarita that I had when I walked in. We were there to catch up on 3 weeks worth of stuff and our server read the room and was so polite when checking in on us. The food was great and the tortillas were what really stood out to me. I hadn't had tortillas this good since dining at Pour Vida. I ate one taco and some beans and then for dessert I had the Churros Royale and they were everything you would want in a churro dessert. I would come back here again and try to make it to their happy hour. We arrived just as it was ending around 7 pm. Our server really made our experience excellent and the complimentary margarita while we were waiting was an nice touch. I love when I go somewhere and they have complimentary drinks in a champagne flute ready to go. Initially we were waiting for Cheesecake Factory, but it took so long so we walked across to check this spot out. It had good music bumping and a lively atmosphere visible from the outside so we felt intrigued. We ordered the chipotle crema enchiladas with asada (comes with side of rice and beans) and the birria plate. I will say that towards the middle and end of our visit, the service definitely slowed down and wasn't as attentive. It took a bit of time to flag her down to get the check and close out. However, the food and ambiance coupled with the service in the beginning definitely made up for it. The 100% blanco used in my cocktail was extremely pleasant and smooth. I have a feeling we just had a bad experience with the service but the food was mid and not memorable (really "Huntington Beach" Mexican food) 1- the first impression was great because you get there and you get a welcome drink. When you wait for your table, you sit in this side lounge area that felt like we were really just chilling instead of in a random waiting room. 2- Staff was nice. I'll give them that. But our server wasn't training and it was kind of painful. And to be honest. We couldn't tell which one wasn't training and which one was the experience server. They were both pretty bad. Took forever and mixed up things. One person never got their food put in. 3- coconut margarita was sooooooooo good omg!!! But... they ran out of cups for my brothers coconut margarita. And they put it in a regular glass. You would think, awesome! But the ratio was off and it tasted really gross. We sent it back twice and they never got it right. I was expecting to have a great Saturday night experience, but it ended up being just okay. The hosts welcomed us with a peach margarita, which had a very good flavor and was a nice touch. We sat at the bar, and all bartenders were super friendly and attentive. However, one bartender took a very long time to take our drink order. When I asked about my margarita, he said there were not enough glasses available to serve it, which seemed like a strange explanation. Later, when we ordered a second round, he again told us we would have to wait for glasses to become available. We didn't mind waiting, but the service was noticeably slow. Fortunately, another bartender noticed the delay and kindly stepped in to bring us our drinks. There were also a few mistakes with our food. That said, the place itself is beautiful, lively, and very popular. The food was good, and we appreciated the complimentary chips and salsa when we arrived. Despite the service issues, we came back a week later on a happy hour at the bar and sadly again the service was super slow, bar tenders are super nice but they need more people working in the bar. Although came here at night and the service was horrendous to us people-of-color. Our server completely ignored us, continued to pass by and say she'd be back, and left to talk to other tables. My husband took me to Flecha Cantina for their Sunday brunch as part of our Mother's Day celebration. The brunch included unlimited mimosas for $50 per person, although I overheard it is normally $45 on regular Sundays. I accidentally made my reservation for Monday instead of Mother's Day Sunday at 11:00am, but the staff was very accommodating and still allowed us to be seated at the bar area. We came with our baby, so it was a little challenging since the high chair sat lower than the bar seating. They had a wide variety of food options including prime rib, ham, omelettes, tacos, quesadillas, chilaquiles, premade mole, and pozole. The tacos and quesadillas were pretty good. The prime rib was decent, although it was sliced very thinly. There was also a large dessert selection, and they even had cotton candy available which added a fun touch to the brunch experience. On a recent visit to Flecha we had excellent food but terrible service. We went on a Monday night around 7pm and the place had a small crowd but plenty of open tables and plenty of staff working. Initially things looked promising service side but quickly got bad. The server failed to be attentive to anything we had ordered. Our initial drink orders still hadn't arrived by the time main entrees were being served. On top of that half our table got their meals while the other half had to wait an additional ten minutes for their food. This definitely falls on the sever for not paying attention to her tables especially when the food runners are bringing out the meal. Once they noticed the error they definitely started trying to correct which is why I'm giving four stars instead of three. The food was also amazing which is the other reason for our higher rating. Came here last night for the first time and it did not disappoint! Be aware it's in a very busy shopping center and parking was tough even on a Tuesday night so plan accordingly. They have a great menu with a good amount of options and even a special summer menu. We went for brunch before a movie and after devouring the chips and salsa (5 stars!), both my partner and I went with Benedicts. When in a Mexican restaurant, GET THE CHORIZO!! Perfect flavor without being too spicy, perfectly poached eggs--loved every bite. My partner had the smoked salmon and it wasn't what he was expecting--it was warm flaked salmon and didn't have any smokiness to it. Skip this in favor of other meats! Vibe comes down to preference. They had a decent desert bar with pan dulce, waffles, pancakes, flan, churros, and a couple other items. My last review I said I only rated them 3 stars bc the HH at the time was not spectacular, I wanted to update my review after I went to their Sunday brunch bc I so much wanted to give them a 5 stars review. I did go to Sunday brunch in 2024 right after we voted and needed to celebrate but I had forgotten completely till today, we had a glorious time at the Sunday brunch extravaganza so I decided to rate it here instead of Google review that would reach billions diners. The 1st time we came here, I was beyond thrilled, I thought I was at a banquet for the emperor of China or Thailand. Right at the door, we were greeted with a mimosa and got a table in 10 minutes. The patio was unlike any other, all the tables were like booths, very comfortable cushioned seats not garden chairs like most patios. The buffet was endless, there was a long table and on both sides were enchiladas, birria, chile Colorado, BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, chicken in wine, refried beans, friend rice, there were 3 more stations, salad bar, huevos rancheros station and salsa bar. That was not all as the buffet was in the patio, inside the restaurant were 2 stations, a cotton candy maker and a long table w delicacies such as cakes, fruits, churros, chocolate and oatmeal cookies. They were all so good, you just don't know what to start, well I started w pozole and menudo bc these 2 specialties were not offered anywhere else, not only that, the pig feet were cooked to perfection even the pork and cartilages were so delicious, they fell off the bone. I also loved their birria, it was again cooked to perfection, I was in Cabo in the most expensive all inclusive hotel on the beach and their menudo was full of chewy meats. The chicken cooked in some sort of wine was so delicious, they did not have a name so idk what it was. The only thing I missed was carne asada, they used to have a taco stand, maybe I did not see it, I had an amazing huevos rancheros, it was so yummy bc they tilted it so the flmae was licking the eggs giving it a flambé taste to the omelet. All in all it was worth more than $49, it was reasonably priced. The last time I had cotton candy was in Coney Island, it brought back memories of Coney and Jersey shore, I felt like a kid again watching the dude spinning the candy, I'll upload a video clip later. This definitely the cantina to be in for the best Mexican food ever, better than anything I had in Mexico lately. The only thing missing was the grilled carne asada but even in Mexico, this spectacular buffet would be about $60 to $70, unfortunately the margarita was expensive, $16 plus tax so I skipped it, it is still the best bargain in town, my next table diners drove here from Ventura just to come here! Unfortunately, my dining experience at Flecha Cantina was horrible, and the service from Gianna was a major reason why. Gianna passed by me three separate times without taking my drink order or even acknowledging that I was waiting. On the final pass, instead of finally taking my order, she told me, "I'm actually going to take these orders first," and continued helping other guests. I understand restaurants get busy, and I'm normally very patient, but there's a difference between being busy and making a guest feel like they simply don't matter. A quick acknowledgment or "I'll be right with you" would have gone a long way. Management seriously needs to consider retraining Gianna on basic customer service and how guests should be treated. You can train someone on the menu, procedures, and how to take an order, but you can't teach people skills. Unfortunately, that was what seemed to be missing here. For a restaurant where you're paying to have an enjoyable dining experience, the service should be much better than this. Very disappointing. read more
