Superior interior, decent coffee taste Unbelievable this kind of stylish, cool place is in BG! Just music is not my taste. I prefer to listen Mild David or John Coltrane. read more

This coffee shop is SO cute with amazing coffee, too! The vibe is super peaceful and perfect for getting homework or meetings done, and also would be the perfect place to meet up with friends! I think the best part of coming here was the sweet girl working. She was so friendly, kind, and helpful, and she made a mean chai latte (YUM!). I'll definitely be coming whenever I'm in BG needing a coffee fix! read more

Sooo good. I got a plain cappuccino with oat milk. Usually I get syrup when i get coffee but this did not need it at all, i'm glad i didn't so i could taste the full flavor of the coffee. I also got a orange lavender scone and it was seriously the best scone i've ever had. The person working was also the sweetest person ever, they seemed like they loved their job and made the experience even better. read more

Isn't worth the price tag. The coffee isn't better than any other place, but due to lack of business imagination and generic competition the owner's charge $5 for a simple cup of tea or coffee.....latte's can get up to $10. The acoustics of the place aren't great and create an echo that doesn't let you hear what other's are saying over the commotion of the central coffee station and customers. read more

Five star rating because every aspect of my visit and this coffee house was perfect. The space is very minimalistic and beautifully crafted with the small details in mind. The serving counter is low and uncluttered to give a sense of more open interaction with the baristas. The the baristas I met working (including the owner) were very nice and conversational. The owner has incredible knowledge and love of coffee- and it shows! I had a very well prepared and delicious cortado. They are a multi-roaster coffee shop, meaning they are always bringing in new coffees to try, and keeping the best. They had a $7 pour over available because the owner loved the quality and flavor so much of this limited quantity coffee that he had to pay full price for the coffee himself. Go out of your way to give this shop a try. Make it a point in your life to go here. You will learn so much about coffee and have new friends. read more

Absolute perfection. From the beautifully minimalistic interior design, to the knowledgeable and passionate owner, everything you want from a coffee shop is here. Ben (the owner) knows his coffee and is always ready to answer any question you may have before brewing the best cup you have ever had. I can honestly say that I have never had a cup of anything here (they also serve tea) that I did not absolutely love. There are new types of coffee every 2 weeks or so as well, so there will almost always be something new to try. Also available are craft sodas and delicious pastries. After only 2 visits Ben greeted me by name when entering. I've definitely found my coffee shop. read more

Absolutely amazing is the best way to describe Flatlands. I'm a huge coffee fan and love going to new coffee shops, and I can honestly say this is the best one I've been to. They order high quality coffee and brew it perfectly--both of which pay off in an amazing taste and great overall experience. These guys definitely know what they're doing and are pros at it. On top of the coffee, the food here is outstanding. The macarons are super authentic with a crunchy outer shell and a soft, chewy interior, plus delicious, creamy, and flavorful fillings; sweet, but not cloyingly so--a great complement to the coffee. Not to mention the rotating flavors of scones and the tastiest croissants I've had in BG. Flatlands also has the best baristas and owner. Everyone here is super friendly. A lot of similar coffee shops I've been to have an an air of pretension to them, but here they're all about making sure their customers feel welcomed and appreciated. Basically, this place is the best place to get coffee and hang out in the area. If you haven't been here yet, you definitely should check it out! read more

By far the best coffee in town, and the state, maybe even the country?! Iv never been anywhere that was so passionate about their quality, and so caring about their customers and service. Best coffee I think iv ever had. I actually started drinking it again because of this place, just so damn tasty. You guys Rock. Ben, I'm so happy you and Cassie have made your dream a reality, it's such a gift to the community and the world of coffee. read more

As far as quality of coffee served, Flatlands is untouchable in the BG area. The staff is very obviously meticulous in the way they choose what coffees to carry and serve, with great affect. For a small town like BG, having a third wave coffee shop is almost as irregular as finding a golden goose egg in the street, in that only a small section of the population understand how awesome a golden goose egg is, while the other part of the population sees the golden goose egg as just an oddity. If you're unsure what to make of Flatlands, think of them as you would your friend who likes wine tasting, or your friend who likes craft beer. Third wave coffee shares the same quality as both of those - the folks involved believe in making exceptional products, and that we shouldn't settle for the cheap, big box, version of the thing. I am happy for BG to have a shop like Flatlands! Enjoy it read more

Go here. Get coffee. Bask in the craftsmanship they behold. The owner, Ben, cycles through a lot of different coffee, so if you get attached to a coffee, it won't be there in a few days. Regardless, everything they do is top notch! Their pour overs are superb! read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in BG. I'm sad I no longer live in the area to frequent it more often. The ambiance is amazing and conducive to studying, engaging in conversation with friends, or just relaxing and enjoying the coffee. I love that they have nitro coffees and pour over coffees--not something you find in every coffee shop in town. Moreover, the flavor of the coffee is amazing. I've never had a bad drink there, and the staff is so friendly. Finally, if you have the chance, order a scone. They are the best scones I have ever tasted. read more

Can't tell you how awesome this place is. Whether you are a jaded coffee expert, a burgeoning aficionado or can't tell the difference between arabica and robusta, Ben and his team at Flatlands will blow you away with their dedication to a perfect cup of coffee. While searching the globe for the finest and most interesting coffees, Flatlands still finds a way to feature and support high quality local roasters. The environment is sleek and comfortable, perfect for enjoying your beverage. The best part of all of this is how kind, courteous, and passionate the staff is, especially Ben himself. All told this is the definitive coffee experience in our part of the country. You would have a hard time finding a superior shop even in the likes of San Francisco, Seattle, or Chicago. read more

This coffee shop appreciates coffee more than any place I've ever been. It's also a great place to open your laptop and study/work for a bit while you enjoy your beverage. It has as much cool feeling/vibe as any coffee shop I've ever been to, even in larger market cities. Yes it's more expensive than a simple Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's coffee, and yes it takes longer than just pumping your own coffee at Bigby... but the thought and craft behind it make it a a unique experience to actually TASTE the handpicked coffee that they offer without junking it up with sweeteners or additives. If you want sweetness, their mocha is off the charts by the way. Flatlands is my favorite place to visit and work from for sure when I visit my family in BG and I hope they continue to thrive. read more

This is a great little coffee shop to hangout at with plenty of outlets to plug devices in. The baristas are very nice and helpful. But the prices...holy cow! I really enjoy coffee. I personally order my coffee and have it shipped in from out of state, and grind it myself. But paying $5.87 for a large coffee that's maybe 10oz, is absurd. In this part of the US were it's college students and what's left of the middle class. The coffee was good, a $2.87 good. read more

This place is amazing. The owner is one of the nicest guys in town. He greats you right away as you walk in. He is also extremely knowledgable about his craft. The coffee is the best in Northwest Ohio by far. The coffee shop itself is beautiful on the inside. It's truly unlike anything else in Bowling Green. Stop in, you'll be impressed. read more

Fabulous coffee. So much thought put into where the coffee is sourced from and every bag has a story. The pour over is perfection. The price is the same as what you'd pay for Starbucks but it has ten times the ambiance and taste. The decor was simple and stunning. Far more than I would've expected from a small college town. Flatlands, you won this city girls heart! read more

Simply one of the best coffeeshops I've had the pleasure of visiting. Drop Flatlands in Brooklyn, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, London, Mexico City, etc - it would shine. It's been my pleasure to work with Flatlands to create world class customer experiences for last few years, and still I'm amazed every time I enter the shop at how Ben and his staff work to create an incredible coffee experience for each and every guest! read more

I love Flatlands Coffee! The quality of their manual drip pourovers, the interior design, and the music is awesome! The owner, Ben Vollmar has superb knowledge of coffee and is inspirational! Flatlands Coffee - Ben Vollmar did an amazing job with our Ecuador coffee pourovers from Populace Coffee Co today! - Coffee Roasteries Near Me - Bowling Green, Ohio

A nice comfortable place to sip a deliciously prepared cappuccino and a savory scone. The atmosphere is chic and enjoyable. The baristas do clearly understand how to make a cappuccino. The scone was filled with savory toppings and wasn't overworked, albeit just slightly denser than I usually like my scones. I also appreciate the name, because you know, we all are stuck in the flatlands of NW Ohio where a hill is a foreign object. read more

We always go out of the way to find local eats and drink and Saturday was a pleasure for us to find this gem of a coffee shop! We enjoyed spending some time with Ben during our baseball travels and are thankful to have taken the time to learn about this shop and what makes everything come together to serve an amazing cup. The scones and coffees were just amazing! Thank you for adding a little class to your town! Jerry. read more

Flatlands was recommended to us by John from The Clay Pot and he knows his coffee. Flatlands is a unique coffee shop and Ben was extremely hospitable and the coffee was amazing. The nitro brew was delicious. I'm already missing the vegan gluten-free pumpkin bread. I should have bought one for the road. read more

A great, modern coffee shop in the middle of downtown. The space seems really conducive to working or hanging out! The barista was really extra friendly and gave us free samples of the nitro and was very knowledgeable. They also have special/unique drinks - I had an espresso rose lemonade and it was amazing! read more

Wow! I visited this shop as part of coffee quest, and it was worth the 35 minute drive from North Toledo. I ordered a latte; and it was possibly the smoothest drink I've ever had. The customer service is great, atmosphere is nice! I look forward to stopping by again when I am next in the area. read more

A bit pricey, but good coffee and even better scones. Good atmosphere to focus on homework, read, or have a quiet conversation. Very chilled out vibe! read more

Living in Chicago, we are spoiled to have lots of great coffee shops. Our visits to Flatlands Coffee ranked with the best for wonderful coffee, great, friendly, personal, and warm service and a lovely space. The coffee is carefully selected for flavor and smoothness and prepared to order. Pastries and sandwiches rounded out our lunch deliciously. read more

Visited yesterday for first time. Very unimpressed. Walked in, place was very sparse and plain looking. Lady behind counter was nice and that is reason for two stars. All drinks were pricey for are but since first time, I sprung for their number one drink. Ten minutes later, she walked over to our table and said "sorry, but we are out of our number one seller and no idea when it will be replenished". Okkaay, we picked a pour over, another 10 minutes, we received and, at best, they were luke warm and tasteless. Also, overpAid for a pastry that was at least a day or two old. To top it off, she put on a vinyl record that was so loud that it took care of any normal voice conversation. I don't think there will be a return visit. read more

Love this coffee shop. Super delicious coffee, Dry sparkling drinks when you are in the mood for something else. Locally made scones and a super welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Great ambience whether it is a quiet afternoon or a busy morning. This shop is a wonderful addition to downtown Bowling Green! read more

Among coffee snobs I am probably ranked as "Highly Snobby". I and my ilk are forever searching for the elusive "perfect cup". Our unremitting "sehnsucht" drives our prodding, interrogating, and general oppugning of poor unprepared baristas in every city we visit. Asking copious questions is our cultic methodology, because we know we will not find our obscure quarry in the kind of establishments that considers our nosy probing to be bothersome, tedious, or a waste of their time ( i.e the baristas that serve below the two-tailed mermaid, (and shops of that nature), have no time for questions, they look right through snobs like me as if we were transparent, too eager to motion "Next" to the queue of caffeine crazed, candy-craving addicts willing to pay good money for their personalized Double Ristretto Venti 4-pump Half-Soy Nonfat Decaf Organic Chocolate Brownie Iced Vanilla Frappuccino Extra Hot With Foamy Whipped Cream Upside Down Double Blended, One Sweet'N Low and One Nutrasweet.) Today I walked into Flatlands Coffee, in Bowling Green Ohio, and I suddenly knew I was welcome. I am always greeted and served by the most well informed, and well trained baristas you will ever find anywhere. It is a rare establishment where their answers are always longer than my obnoxious questions, always accurate, and always presented in such a way that makes me feel like they actually appreciate my asking. I always learn something when I go in there. This visit I asked barista Ben to select a coffee for me based on what he was especially proud of, and based on what he already knew I might like. He chose an Ethiopian single origin coffee that he had himself roasted to perfection. He took the time to show me the beans which I could see were well cleaned, roasted slightly light and perfectly even. Weighing the beans and the water with apothecary skill, Ben made me the perfect cup of coffee. There is no doubt in my mind that every essential flavor that those Arabica cherries had to offer, Ben lovingly coaxed out of the beans and infused them into a sublime experience that I will remember for a very long time. I am not yet resigned that my "sehnsucht" has been satisfied; I'm not sure I found that "perfect cup" for which I am always searching, but today I came as close to it as I have ever come. Thanx Flatlands. read more

Amazing coffee and technique. I prefer lattes and frequent one other coffee shop in town. However, I've never ever enjoyed straight/black coffee without any additives (like milk, sugar, or chocolate) before having some of Flatlands picks. The tastes range and each has its own complexities and can be enjoyed from first sip to last. I never thought I would enjoy straight coffee until I had one of Flatlands brews! Great addition to downtown BG! read more

Right when we stepped through the doors we knew there was something different about this coffee shop. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and simplistic. Our Barista was Aaron and he was everything a barista should be, and more. He took the time to explain the coffee beans, the process, the filtration, and answered any questions we had. He invited us to sit at the bar to continue conversation with us. Not only was it one of the best cups of coffee I've had, we also had the best coffee experience. There is passion and care behind each cup of coffee here. Highly recommend! read more

Recently visited for the Coffee Quest and was very impressed!! I had been here before but only once or twice. They've expanded their menu from when they first opened. The atmosphere is great. We received excellent customer service as well. The guy who made our coffees was so, so nice! Wish I knew his name to mention him, but we were there at 6:45 pm on Monday, May 13, 2019. Will be back and looking forward to trying more on the menu! read more

This coffee shop along with the staff and owners is absolutely amazing!! When we are traveling around to different areas we are always on the hunt for the best and most unique coffee shops! This place was exactly what we love! They always have different coffees in from roasters everywhere! The owner Ben was so helpful and nice in helping us choose which pour over would best fit our taste preference. Now about those fresh made in house pastries! My significant other and I shared the coffee cake and blueberry lemon scone. They were both fantastic!! Going for that sleek-modern feel, but the seats are less than comfortable and coffee is extremely overpriced for what it is.

The coffee is deficiently high end but if you're not real experienced with coffee fancier that black the staff is really helpful and friendly. Super fast internet and convenient power outlets makes Flatlands the coffee shop of choice in BG for getting some work done. read more

The owners are the nicest people! I was welcomed in as soon as I walked through the door. The barista made several great suggestions about what coffee to get, and when I found out Thursday's are when the Nitro coffee is only $3, I had to try it. She gave me a free sample and I loved it. Also had a blueberry and lemon zest scone of course! No competition with Grounds for Thought, since they're so different from each other. Flatlands has better coffee and a more hipster atmosphere. Only suggestion is that I wish the seating was cozier. read more

Was dying for some quality coffee on a roadtrip and found this place. Awesome pourovers and espresso. Bowling Green is pretty much a college town and I don't have any reason to be there, but if I'm ever driving by again it's worth a 10 minute detour from the highway! read more

I was never really excited for another coffee shop as BG does not need more, but decided to give it a try anyway. There was no one in line ahead of us, however it took 10-15 minutes to get 2 drinks. Barista seemed knowledgeable, although I got the feeling he was extremely high. Coffee was...not good. I couldn't finish my drink. It was bitter and flavorless all at the same time. So bummed. I really wanted to like this place. 2 stars instead of 1 because the decor/atmosphere is great. read more
