Located in Fort Industry Square, Brew House Downtown is a pretty cool place. It's fancy, a little unique, and the product is great. If you need an after work pick-me-up, OR, if you want to edge off after work, BHD has you covered! This place is both a coffee shop, and the "speakeasy." Want a coffee or tea drink, a bagel, a banana, or a bougie pastry? You can find these in the cafe. If you want an excellent, if not overpriced, cocktail? You can find it at the bottom of the spiral staircase, in the bar area. The area directly above the bar (up a few steps up from the cafe), is a nice seating area. The view, over the parking lot(s) of the river, is surprisingly scenic. Service: This is a weird one...on nearly every occasion that we've been here, the wife and I got strange vibes. The people behind the counter in the coffee shop seemed, for some reason, snobby and aloof. C'mon, girls, you're baristas, not prima ballerinas...Still, the service was at least fast and accurate. I like the atmosphere. From the comfy chairs in the cafe, to the "secret" back door of the speakeasy, this place is very cool. However, THE BAR NEEDS A FOOT RAIL! All in all, this is a very nice edition to the downtown coffee, and bar, scene. read more

Brew House is such a downtown staple for me! I always bring out of town guests here and they love it! I love to start my mornings with a latte and slice of cheesecake (the best in town). If I visit during the evening I enjoy getting dressed up and heading to the speakeasy for an espresso martini or a seasonal special martini. I've never been disappointed with the staff in either part of this establishment. The ambiance is amazing! I love the comfortable seats or large table upstairs with a view of downtown Toledo, there's always relaxing music playing and it's always clean! Stopped by here for some coffee and a treat. First of all, the space is beautiful! The staff was so friendly and o enjoyed drinking my coffee by the window. Now I've been to the coffee house for a coffee and a pastry months ago, but was really looking forward to trying the downstairs "speakeasy" bar that was new. The space is tight, but the coffee shop stays open as well so you can grab your control and then head back upstairs. We came in the first night the featured contrail menu came out. We were told that the espresso martini is amazing because of the fresh espresso upstairs of course, but we wanted to try that new menu. The cocktails we tried had an exotic flavor and was perfect for the chilly setting that was ahead of us. read more

A fun visit! Excellent food & service! There were 3 of us; and we all agreed that the ambiance was pretty mellow; a super way to relax, chat and enjoy watching the Maumee River. Brew House Downtown is a wonderful coffee shop from dawn to dusk... that becomes a speakeasy after dark. Place has a fancy feel to it that I dig, but comfortable all the same. You will find every kind of coffee in here... whether it's drip, pour over, aeropress, french press etc. They also have sandwiches and breakfast items for sale as well. Coffee is delicious! Brew House provides contemporary, slightly upscale vibes in Fort Industry Square, which is in the final stages of a complete redevelopment. It's so cool to see so many things happening downtown, and it's clear Brew House is looking to capitalize on the momentum. The coffee is good, and the desserts in the deli case looked pretty awesome, but our order, which was served with a smile, was also incorrect. And while the vibes of the space are excellent, the actual space to congregate with others is *very* small, and not appropriate for any sort of work or intimate conversations, as everyone else in the room can hear what you're saying. With all of the fantastic coffee shops within a short walking distance of Brew House, I am curious to see what the long play will be. I suspect once the word is out, the bar on the ground level will be why most people visit, as coffee is not enough of a reason to navigate the parking. I wish them the best, but likely won't be a frequent visitor. read more

We were downtown and stumbled across this cute coffee/pastry/bar. We got a coffee and pastry and were very happy. The staff was very friendly and informed us of the bar downstairs. We went downstairs to try a drink at the bar and it was the same people upstairs helping us. We had a couple drinks and they were just ok but it wasn't the normal bartender making the drinks. The regular bartender ended up showing up and was a total dick. He was mad the bar was full when he walked in and we asked if they had a certain liquor and he laughed rolled his eyes and said "no" very rudely. There were two groups including us and six people at the bar. When the bartender came in we all felt uncomfortable and cashed out and left. Love the decor and ambiance but the bartender killed the mood. Would definitely walk out if we saw the same bartender working. Would still go again though. read more

Stopped in on a fall-like windy night. It was cozy inside. The atmosphere is relaxing and classy. There's a lot more space inside than appears from the outside and I loved how there were different sections to hang out in upstairs or downstairs. It was the Fort Industry Square building that drew me to the Brew House as the exquisite architecture of the building recently is so beautifully renovated. My husband went and grabbed us some coffee and we are perfectly located right across the street. He got me a vanilla latte, it's creamy and sweet but just the right amount. He got a drip coffee and he says it's pretty good but mine is better. I would definitely recommend this place before a walk in the park strolling around with your drink. :) read more

Excellent atmosphere but just terrible over all service from both bartenders. I decided to visit this place to try something new, and I was surprisingly disappointed. Prior to coming here I saw about 3 negative reviews about the service and I was willing to negate that just for the sake of my own experience but in the end they were correct. I don't understand how a bar so small and intimate could have such poor service from the bartenders. I even noticed other guests becoming displeased with how long they were waiting on the staff to notice them ( me included) or stop talking to their friends enough to serve them. I also work at a small restaurant so I understand. But time and place. It's not that hard to look around and see who is clearly displeased in the face and without a drink. I don't even work there and I could pick that up instantly. It wasn't even busy and the man was continuously telling his other bartender who to service next. Mind you there were abt 6 of us at the counter. And 2 of us just waiting and waiting. I was also ignored so long I eventually just had to be like " Hello!!! I'm ready!" Just inattentive. Initial reaction: nice decor. Cool coffee shop. Ordered drinks and noticed the stairs leading to the lower level. I asked and the barista mentioned it was a speakeasy with full bar. Head down and am impressed. We sit at a high top and are drinking our coffee while overlooking the menu. A bartender asks if we needed anything, and we mention we are looking through the menu and will let him know. Not a few minutes later, a woman rudely walks up and tells us that we have to go upstairs if we aren't going to buy anything. As I have the menu in hand, we tell her we're looking at the menu to pick something and she ignores us. The speakeasy was mostly empty and I don't know what leads someone to condescendingly speak to their patrons, and as the only person of color in the speakeasy, it felt targeted. When we discussed this with the employees at the coffee shop, they apologized on her behalf and let us know it was one of the owners. Coffee is good, owners are not. read more

To be fair the coffee and cheesecakes ae good. I went to the speakeasy on Thursday with a couple friends and we had a couple cocktails. Also good and staff was great. What wasn't great is their deceptive business practice with credit cards. We get the bill and there was a different price for cash and a card. Had we known we would have only had one drink. Visa's T&C clearly state the a company has to have it clearly posted on the enterance and teminals if they aer charging the fee and they don't have it posted anyplace. Visa's T&C also state that they can't chage a fee on debit cards. Bartender said he couldn't make a one time exception since we didn't have enough cash to cover it since we ween't awaer of the surcharrge and offeerd to pay with a debit card and was told they could charge a fee on a debit card even after showing him Visa's own site about how the sucharge had to be posted and debit card and prepaid visa fees weren't allowed. Be aware if you don't have cash. My firends and I paid sepaate on debit cards and going to contest the fee with our respective banks and have all filed complaints with Visa who wil hopefully fine them. read more
