Best coffee shop in Boulder, in our humble opinion. A newer, friendlier owner; nice baristas, and Coda coffees and espresso. Like another reviewer, we seem to be fans of Kaladi Bros.' roastings, but don't discount Coda. They were roaster of the year for 2014! And, they offer healthy slices of Outrageous Baking, gluten-free, nut-free cakes. Check 'em out, if you haven't already. A Coda coffee/espresso and an Outrageous Baking zucchini chocolate bread? Yes, the coffee is great here. Yes, it is local and yes, it is at a very convenient location. But is that what keeps me coming back? Well, kind of! Truth be told, I meandered around Boulder coffee shops with a grimace and chip on my shoulder for an entire year before I ended up here. What keeps me coming back are the wonderful staff who are always friendly and make it feel like 'my' coffee shop. And - this is a slight rarity, as I am coming to find out - their restrooms are always spotless. It is insanely difficult to find decent coffee in Boulder. I have been searching for even mediocre coffee since August. There have been a few redeeming spots, which I won't mention out of courtesy, since why mention competitors, especially when I am writing a highly positive review. Here, I have found amazingly good coffee. Coffee where I took a sip and I said "Holy shit." It's perfect. The only star off would be for the ambiance of the shop, which is slightly cramped in terms of set-up/feeling. However, the staff were polite and kind, and, let me state again. I've been to almost all of the coffee shops in Boulder with the intention of finding the cup of joe I like the most. Flatirons Coffee has, so far, been the most consistent where good flavored coffee bevs and friendly customer service are concerned. The drinks I order range from Americanos, cortados, lattes, iced coffee - depending on the day, the weather, and let's face it, my mood. Flatirons brews fantastic iced coffee, and pulls great shots of espresso. I have yet to find the flavor and consistency in the other shops around town. So, as of now, Flatirons is my coffee shop of choice, but I'll still be sampling the fares at the other shops just to stay on the up and up. read more

Coffee was good but I came here to work and the WiFi connection was being very finicky. First didn't work at all, the staff were super sweet and restarted the router to get it to work. Then it kept throwing me off saying I was using a third part file-sharing (which I wasn't). I work a lot in cafes and haven't had this issue before. read more

I was sad when I saw that Peaberry's was closing. It is in a fairly handy location with reliably delicious lattes and friendly services. Then I went into Flatirons. Same location, same look. But now, they're an independently owned coffee show. I reserved judgment until after I tasted my latte. It was perfect: smooth, smokey, without a hint of bitterness. The interior looks the same as it did with Peaberry's except they've added a few touches that makes it really feel like an independent shop. They have books, now! I had a delicious breakfast this morning at Flatiron coffee. I was in Boulder for a friend's wedding so I decided to try this place. I had the honey pot latte, a latte with honey cinnamon and vanilla as well as the chocolate croissant and black/white cookie. The coffee was delicious but the real stars of the show were the baked goods. The cookie was perfectly half soft and half crunchy and the croissant was one of the best I've ever had! In a desperate search for good Iced Coffee while traveling, I came here based on proximity to the hotel and other people's reviews. The other reviews were all very positive, and they were not wrong. The staff was very friendly. The coffee is wonderful. But, like so many other coffee places, the size of the large iced coffee just isn't big enough. I like good coffee in large volumes. This lacked the volume, so I had to order two coffees in the morning. Both good, but would have been nice if the largest size available exceeded 20 ounces. read more

Pretty bummed... this place has great coffee but I just waited behind a couple for 10 minutes to order... then when finally ordering asked if I could buy one of their hydro flasks in a different color, the girl said no problem and told me to grab one from the back wall, I told the gal "great I'll take a small black one"... went to go grab it real quick and by the time I had got back (maybe 15 seconds) she had started serving the group behind me and I ended up waiting another 5+ minutes... really frustrating (15+ minute) experience. Before someone writes a review of any business, unless their initial experience was extraordinarily awful, I think that people should go to that business at least 2-3 times. We have been to Flatiron Coffee more than several times. Realizing that this a subjective subject, we think that Coda's espresso and Coda coffees are excellent; second only to Kaladi Bros. Unlike some of the other commentators herein regarding "Flatiron Coffee," we have never experienced any rudeness by the owner or by any staff members. And if you speak with the owner, it will be obvious that he a knowledgeable coffee afficionado. One other reason we continue to patronize this coffee shop, besides the high quality coffee and the warm ambiance, is because their 'Outrageous Baking Breads,' to which we have become addicted, are priced less than any other coffee shop or grocery in Boulder. No question, there are several friendly coffee shops in Boulder which also sell good coffee. (I mean, we will go to Peets before we would go to Laughing Goat on Pearl even though LG sells Kaladi Bros. coffee, just because the employees at Peets are just so much more amicable.) But I do suggest that if you have had a less than satisfactory experience on your initial visit to Flatiron Coffee, that you revisit the shop and see if your subsequent trip isn't better. I LOVE this place, I've loved it since it was Peaberry's. The thing that keeps me coming back is the Polar Cap. I don't drink coffee and I cannot get enough of that espresso drink...delicious! But that's not it. The staff is super friendly, quick to enter you into their repeat customer memory and having your "regular" order ready for you before you walk in the door. Rude. I'm in town from Boston and have worked in coffee for Years and have Never made a customer as uncomfortable as I just was. Apparently you must be Actively consuming one of their products to be Allowed to sit and using their free wifi. I had even come in earlier when my girlfriend needed to use the bathroom and bought a coffee and bottled water to be polite before coming back a little later for the wifi. As far as the barista behind the counter was concerned - that wasn't good enough. Too bad, the place has a nice feel and was really quiet (no music? Probably too disturbing like those patrons who hang out for more than 5 minutes without spending money). Only reason I didn't give them more stars is because they use crappy milk alternatives on top of their rudeness. I won't be returning thank you very much. read more
