Doc Gordon is the best. He follows up. Is like what care is supposed to mean.

At first seeing him I thought he was as some have reviewed, an "old fashioned" Doctor who took his time discussing your issues and addressing them in an appropriate and common sense manner. As I had to see him over several years I noticed he had changed has demeanor to one of short expedient time related visits. He would spend more time relating to his intern as to what I was encountering. He spent less and less time directly addressing the issues I had gone to see him for. He would ultimately send me to someone else to be probed, tested or treated. On my final visit I had requested a physical since it had been several years since he had given me a hands on assessment of my general physical condition. He gave me some papers to fill out and then upon seeing me he gave me a "wellness exam" which entailed me answering questions related to answers I had placed on the "generic form". NO hands on physical or for that fact no "real" questions or examination what so ever!!! He then switched to this "Preferred Pay to Play" medical plan. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT AS I HAD THOUGHT I FOUND A DOCTOR THAT GAVE A DAMN ABOUT HIS PATIENTS BUT NOW ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!! I AM GONE, ON TO FIND A REAL DOCTOR AGAIN!!! read more

I am very disappointed in the unprofessional way in which appointments are handled. I had an appointment today, showed up on time and after filling out the forms for this visit, was told I had to reschedule an appointment as a new patient. I hadn't seen him in 4 years, but the office staff knew this when I set up the appointment and had even located my file. He also now says one issue per appointment. I went to this guy because he takes my insurance plan and I liked the name. He did take his time, like people are saying. He also showed me a cool app called GoodRx that helps you find the cheapest prices for prescription drugs. However, he did something without asking that ended up costing me $300 and I'm very upset about that. I showed him that I had a cyst that I was in the process of removing with an herbal drawing salve that I've used many times in the past on my cysts. I've been dealing with these sebaceous cysts for 25 years, had removed many, had a few of them biopsied, and generally know about this condition, which I told him. Dr. Gordon said, "I'm going to swap this for MRSA," and he dabbed it with a gauze. Two weeks later, I get a bill from Marin General Hospital lab for $200. I call them and they tell me that it was this swab that Dr. Gordon took. I told them, I did not consent to that and I will not pay it. They told me to talk to my doctor. Then I get another bill from a pathologist and it's another $100 for the same swab. I am totally outraged! Dr. Gordon's office tells me that there's nothing that they can do about it. It's between me and the lab and the pathologist. So, now I have to decide whether to just pay this $300 bucks or fight it out with these people. In my opinion that is an outrageous practice! Whenever a doctor is going to send something to a third party and incur an expense for the patient, he should ask for their consent. I feel robbed and wonder if he gets a kickback from these labs, or if he's just kind of a nut. One other thing: When I came for my physical, I had a lingering cough from a cold that I had just gotten over. Dr. Gordon prescribed me an anti-biotic for that. I knew I wasn't going to take an anti-biotic for a typical post-cold cough, so I just humored him and took the prescription. When I told my girlfriend that he prescribed me an anti-biotic for my cough, she said, "I bet you he's old. They used to do that back in the day." I hadn't mentioned his age to her, but he is getting up there. read more

I am sorry, but my mom is a former patient of his, and I have to respond here. All I can say is that he was lucky to avoid a malpractice lawsuit. He has repeatedly kept my mom waiting close to an hour while he yakked on the phone with buddies, and refused to refill prescriptions without explanation. It turned out he wanted to see her, but it took repeated phone calls to find that out, and only AFTER a trip to the emergency room to deal with the condition that it developed into. Let me point out that the ER doctor did not appear the least surprised by these events. He might be a decent physician, when he bothers, but his office is disorganized to the point of putting his patients lives at risk. I wouldn't bother writing, if I didn't feel the man is a genuine danger. Feel free to go to him at your own risk. Obviously others have had better experiences, assuming they aren't sock puppets. read more

Dr Flash Gordon is the best Primary Care Physician that I have ever had. I had to leave Dr Gordon's practice for a few years due to a work related geographical re-location. I was so happy to be able to return to his high level of care---I had been spoiled by his intense individual attention to each patient--by his interest in ALL (and I mean ALL) of a person's medical issues. Dr Gordon's Office is a clean well lighted place. The reception room has Hot Chocolate and a nice new high tech stereo player--his front office receptionists were polite and friendly--his medical assistant was kind professional and absolutely first rate. Since I was a returning patient who he had not seen or treated in over three years, and there were significant medical issues that had transpired during that time period, Dr Gordon spent about an hour with me. After the hour was over Dr Gordon forgave his one hour lunch break to further counsel me on all sorts of other medical issues---weight, sight, hearing, blood sugar, cholesterol ,exercise,diet,skin care,etc. You will not find this level of care in many places. I am so happy to be back. I left the office in an upbeat mood--really feeling that I now have a great partner to help me stay in good health. If you are going to visit Dr Gordon you might have to wait a bit--this is because he is probably talking to a patient the way that you would like to be talked to--I don't care about this---I bring a good book and my IPhone. I should mention that Dr Gordon is an up to date high tech guy with and old fashioned family Dr approach to care--you almost feel that he would do house calls if he could. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Gordon's for over 12 years. He remains one of the only docs I have ever met who really cares about his patients. If every doctor were required to study with this man, our medical care would be improved 1,000%. He does not assume you know what he is talking about, and takes time to carefully listen to your description of your illness and to explain details. At one point he was the medical director for the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic. His referral network is outstanding too and he has referred me to an excellent gastroenterologist, and a great orthopedic surgeon. His staff is responsive and kind. I like Dr. Gordon. I've just seen him once for a physical. He gave me some pointers on dealing with my reflux. He is very thorough. It was easy to get an appointment within a few days. He gives you a printout of everything you talked about do it is easy to remember and have for your records. read more

Dr. Gordon is great because he is the quintessential patient advocate. He listens to you. He cares. He has no problem sending you to get tests like MRI, Xray, lab-work, etc. if they are needed. My experience with other doctors over the years is that they are more influenced by the insurance companies and avoid authorizing additional tests to rule things out or in. Dr. Gordon wants to get the right diagnosis for you and he makes every effort. I recently moved to SF from Marin, but I am keeping Dr. Gordon as my primary. It's worth the extra drive and bridge toll for me to go to someone who truly cares about his patients. read more

Dr. Gordon is hard of hearing in his advanced age. Makes it difficult to communicate to him what you're feeling. The inspection was brief despite his scheduling a full 70 minutes for our first meeting. It took 70 minutes total from the time I checked in to the time I got home. In Fairfax. Glad I didn't come 40 minutes early like they asked me to. When he asked if there was anything else we could talk about and I mentioned another item, he said we could talk about it, but not today. Would have to schedule another appointment for a full physical. Isn't 70 minutes, the FIRST time you see a doctor enough for a full physical? Nice guy. Surely he has the best intentions. Dr. Gordon has been my primary care physician for more than three years, so I believe I have ample exposure allowing an informed opinion. He has been an absolutely brilliant diagnostician for me, finding causes to issues that had been unnoticed or misdiagnosed by multiple other doctors for over 30-years. This man has truly changed the quality of my life for the better. I believe that Doctor Gordon cares more for the wellbeing of his patients than for the money in his wallet. I happen to know enough about our healthcare system to understand that there is not much monetary wealth to be gained as a private practice primary care physician (PCP). This is why it is so hard to find a great PCP. When researching a serious issue with a patient, I have never known Dr. Gordon to cut his time short just so he can get to the next patient on time. This is incidentally the manner in which insurance companies compensate doctors, which is not necessarily in the best interest of patients. A PCP who is not as thorough and accurate as a diagnostician will earn more money than a doctor like Dr. Gordon (quantity versus quality). This is why I am never upset if Doctor Gordon is a bit behind in his schedule. I know he is not out at lunch or meeting with his stockbroker, but assisting someone who is in serious need. I am more interested in having a doctor who will be committed to my health and wellbeing when I need it most rather than someone who will get me out the door on time. I have been looking for a great primary physician for years, many years. I don't think I am asking a lot. I want someone who follows up if there is a problem, looks into things, orders blood work and does a thorough exam when a physical is due. Really I just wanted someone that paid attention, seemed to know what they were doing, and someone who cares about my well being. I found that person and more. Dr. Gordon, really listens. Dr. Gordon is, hands down, the best GP I've ever had. Regarding some of the negative reviews here.... he is only thing I wait for without minding, ever. He is a brilliant, old-school diagnostician. More importantly, he actually cares. This is not healthcare patient-processing... it's actual health care. He listens, he puzzles through symptoms, he identifies the problem and gives you actual solutions. If you care about your health and you want a personal relationship with your doctor, then this is the right practice for you. My own quality of life (having suffered for many years from two misdiagnosed, chronic conditions) has improved dramatically as a result of his care. My wife, mother-in-law, friends... everyone I refer to him has largely the same experience as I did. We all love Dr. Gordon. Yes, you have to be patient. Yes, he's a bit of an oddball from a bygone era. Yes, he could use some additional office staff. Yes, the office is a little dated. I could care less about any of that window dressing. I wait, I laugh, I follow up when I need to on paperwork. This a small price to pay to be healthier than ever before. read more

I've been going to Dr. Gordon for around 5 years and in the past have been very pleased to have him as my physician. That changed today. I arrived at his office promptly at the time of my scheduled appointment. In the past he has always been able to see me within 15 minutes of my appointment time - one of the things, though far from the only one - that I like about him. But today, after waiting for 50 minutes, I asked his staff how much longer it would be, and was told that, as he was running behind, it would be around 40 minutes longer, beyond the 50 I had already waited. No one in his office had made any effort to apprise me of this situation - they were content to just let me sit and wait. Had they informed my of the delay when I first arrived, I would have chosen to reschedule as I had work commitments and could not afford to spend an open-ended amount of time waiting for Dr. Gordon. Better yet, with him running 1 1/2 hours late, his office could have made some effort to contact me before I made the trip to his office. I find it incomprehensible and frankly outrageous that people in the medical profession so routinely find their own time to be extremely valuable and the time of their clients to be utterly worthless. So I left without seeing the doctor, after having arranged with my employer to work from home in order to go to this appointment. My schedule just doesn't permit this sort of thing - I guess I'll be looking for a new primary care physician. Bottom line - if you value your own time, Dr. Gordon might not be the best choice for you, unless he makes some changes in his office procedures to reflect a higher degree of respect for his patients. read more

Dr gordon is one of a kind. I'm an old lady who has seen many doctors over the years, and this guy is in a class by himself. I have more maladies than any decent person would, and dr gordon has thoughtfully and thoroughly helped me through all of them. Thanks to his spot on instincts, he was able to get me to treatment for lung cancer before it had passed Stage 1. Many doctors don't pay attention unless you're bleeding from the eyes. Dr. gordon has an absolutely uncanny ability to listen and remember even the smallest detail of what I have reported during a visit and dictates it all onto a summary report at the end of the appointment. It is apparent that he actually CARES about his patients and is not just rushing through an assembly line calendar. His medical knowledge includes not only an encyclopedic grasp of textbook information, but is elevated and enhanced by his personal experience and familiarity with what a patient is going through. I have never felt that my own remarks were overlooked or discredited in favor of his preconceived notions of my condition. It is a truism that nobody knows their body better than oneself, and this doctor clearly knows that too and acts accordingly. No MDiety here. Just a funny, smart and concerned medico. dr. gordon is absolutely great. He is easy to talk to,and not overly stiff like some docs. He doesn't talk down to you, and is willing to take the extra time to go over things with you, when needed. It's true, his office does seem to be understaffed, and your appointment will probably begin quite a bit late (up to an hour), but be assured... you will not be rushed through just because of this. dr.gordon will still spend the proper amount of time paying attention to your specific needs. The only major downfall I've come accross (and thus the loss of a star) is that the receptionist/ nurse who takes your vitals, who can be very rude, and likes to offer her opinion on your prognosis before the doctor makes an appearance. (e.g. she's told me directly that she "doesn't think there's anything else they can do for me" before-- not something you should hear before your visit even begins! read more

When I was calling around for a new doctor I initially selected Dr. Gordon because the staff that answered the phone were the most friendly from all the doctors I called. I found Dr. Gordon to be a very attentive listener and he is also very thorough and detailed in his explanations. I like that he finishes consultations by recording a dictation while I'm still there - it gives me another chance to listen to, understand, and verify all the details of the visit. In my experience Dr. Gordon is outstanding at diagnosing the root cause of a problem - despite being a generalist he has provided me with better care than two other doctors who were specialists in their fields. read more

Whatever issues the office had in the past that some other reviewers are referring to are now gone, at least according to my experience. I switched to Flash Gordon from another doctor about a year ago and I have not had a problem getting an appointment or waiting In the office more than ten minutes. I am so glad I made the switch. Dr. Gordon is incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. He loves to solve complex problems, looks for patterns, and has a lot of fantastic tricks for treatment that don't automatically involve being subscribed yet another pill. I went to Flash because I needed a super hero to be my doctor. Been going to him for a few years. I read the reviews and he does not disappoint. Best doctor that Ive ever had. With that said he has told me some things that I needed to hear. In my opinion - Doctors are supposed to tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear. Some reviewers on here don't get that. He is very reassuring and will stay all day to talk to you about your issues. As a result he runs a bit late with appointments. I would rather wait for a Doctor though that cares enough about his patients to spend time with them. read more

Didn't even get a chance to see the doctor. I called and was told by a female assistant she'd call back in five minutes. Which she didn't. Then after about two hours I called again, explained my situation and was given an appointment the following friday. I agreed. Then I was told by a different lady that I cannot have the friday appointment as it's for established patients only. So I was given a different appointment for next monday. Then I was asked to either give my credit card details over the phone or bring by a personal check within two hours time. Otherwise my appointment could not be confirmed and given to somebody else. I thanked her and hung up. I'm sure Dr. Gordon does not know the story, but I sure hope he reads this anytime soon. Both thumbs down! read more

Most doctors I've visited in the past write a prescription and are in and out in 5 minutes. I first met Dr Gordon at a health fair at BonAir shopping center about 10 years ago, and was instantly impressed by the way he connected with the public. Being a former motorcyclist myself probably helped form the positive imprint. As fate would have it, and an absolute blessing, my regular doctor of 15 years, dropped my insurance carrier last year, and Flash was available across the street. Besides his sense of humor, I couldn't help being impressed with his thoroughness and proactive approach, ordering all the tests needed at my age, and giving lots of advice. Another plus is his accommodation of my desire to remain as holistic and homeopathic as realistically possible, regarding medicine lifestyle, and treatment, showing a very impressive knowledge in those areas, as well. As a result, my cholesterol has been steadily dropping, something it hadn't done for years, except for see-sawing with statins. I noticed that one patient complained about, among other things, stacks of paperwork in his office. I think if one were to consider the number of patients he sees a day and multiplies that by the amount of extra time many of them get, the complainant might realize that with only so many hours in a day, his patients are probably getting the most care and attention of anyone in California, especially compared to most of the numbers/dollars driven mass production types who practice around here. That shows a doctor who gives 200% in my opinion. I am a very grateful convert, and could not imagine any other doctor filling his shoes. Keep it up, Flash!! Smart, plain spoken, efficient, experienced and a great diagnoser. I've been a happy patient of Dr Flash for more than a decade. If there is something you don't understand, he explains. He LIKES explaining. In fact he's written the book on motorcycle medicine called Blood, Sweat and Second Gear.And he has a sense of humor. I saw doctor F.Gordon just once as I recently moved to this area but he impressed me with many things that became very rare at medical offices. First - I was able to get an appointment within a week even without an emergency. Second - He spent about an hour examining me, talking to me and checking my medical history. Third - I had some shots of the medicine prescribed by my previous doctor left and I talked to several medical offices to give them to me but everybody refused. They said they need to make a blood test and if blood test shows the need of those shots I can make an appointment and the nurse will make them. When I said that I had a blood test and my doctor prescribed those shots based on the results from those tests the answer was that they need their own. It's not only about another $200 for the blood test and 2 doctor visits, but also about 2 weeks delay. And I have to have this medication every other week. When I described to Dr. Gordon my situation and he discovered that I have that medication in my posession just asked several questions about the influence of those shots on me and asked his nurse to give me a shot. He answered all my questions and referred me to a specialist. Nothing incredible but so rare in the modern medical offices. I am very happy to have Dr. Gordon as my primary physician. He is very detail oriented and try to take the best care of his patients he can. And he sounds very logical. Need to say a few words about his medical staff as well. His nurse gave me a shot of a very thin medication and she did it so gently and slow that I almost did not feel it. Great job! I had previous 8 shot of the same medication from different nurses and it was never so painless as that time. read more
