I really like Flap-Jacks. It is one of my favorite diner's in the area. I have been here a couple times and have always had good food and good service. I have gotten their banana pancakes and they are delightful. They are light and fluffy with a great banana flavor. I love the combination of maple syrup and bananas. However, it might be a little plain if you are looking for more of a punch. I, also, really love their Mediterranean skillet. There are lots of tomatoes in this dish, but tons of flavor. It is light and fresh so you don't fee weighed down after eating it. The coffee is also delicoius. Sometiems at diners like this the coffee is burnt and doesn't taste good. Not only is the coffee good, they also have flavored cream. I love it. The service is always nice. The waitresses are very nice and seem like they love their job. My family and I really love this place. We haven't been here since they moved to this new location, so we decided to go this morning. It's set up nicely inside and service is pretty fast. Our server, Marie, was gracious and accommodating and it seemed that is the culture of flap jacks-- to make you feel at home. The kind gentleman that served us water and cleared our plates was sweet and talked to my son. I noticed throughout the restaurant that all the servers were friendly especially to the children. This makes it so much easier to dine. My son ordered his Nutella filled crêpes, my hubs the Swedish cakes (done perfectly thin with crispy edges) and I ordered the two eggs with meat. Please read til the end Let me first start out by saying I loved this restaurant. My husband children and I go just about every Saturday. We went today with my brother in law and his family and as our server took our order (she must have a cold or something) she wiped her running nose in her hand. So we got the manager and politely asked her to relay the message to have her wash her hands since she will be handling our food. The children were playing with the creamers making pyramids and the manager walks over to our table to let us know that it's unsanitary to her patrons that they are playing with those. !?!? I was dumbfounded. Are you kidding, you mean to tell me you walk all the way here to tell me that my kids playing with creamer that cost you probably 70 cents is more alarming then your waitress knowing spreading contamination to our probably $60-$70 dollars in food ?!? I am still shocked and can't believe they literally asked us to leave because of it !!! I have never been treated in that type of way at any establishment! She told me I left a mess , oh you expect me to put the "unsanitary" creamers and such back so you can serve them to other customers? I tried this place and I wasn't disappointed! My waitress Alice greeted me with a little joke and a pleasant smile. It took longer for me to decide what I wanted then the time it took them to prepare my meal. I went with this omelet filled with a Southern omelet. Where to start... we've been sitting here for almost 30 minutes and my husband had to ask for them to bring the soup that is supposed to come with his meal. We both ordered iced tea which is so bad we're opting to drink the water. Something was spilled and whatever they used to clean smells like cat urine, the smell is getting stronger instead of fading. We are near the the register and the last 3 customers have complained about their food and service. I ordered hash and my hubby ordered a burger; my guess is they had to kill the cow and dig up the potatoes. There is literally no food coming out of the kitchen. Second time going there was a disaster. It just opened up and word got out on the street so it was packed. My boyfriend and I tried our best to be patient though. As we got seated, we got an extremely rude waitress. She just sat us down and left, didn't ask for our drinks or anything. When she came back, she dropped off coffee cream. (tl;dr) Today (Sunday) I arrived about 35 mins before closing, was greeted and seated promptly by a friendly face. Busperson: Would you like water? Me: Yes, please, and coffee. Busperson: She'll be right with you (which apparently means coffee service is below her pay grade). I knew what I wanted but took a gander at the menu anyway. Then I put down the menu. Then I fished out my magazine. Then I read my magazine. Finally: Me (to Busperson, who has been casually chatting w/a coworker since delivering my water): Can I have a waitress? Busperson: Yeah. She hasn't been here yet? Me (looking at sad, empty table): No. Busperson disappears, never to resurface. Blonde Server to Me: Has anyone taken care of you? Me (gesturing toward sad, empty table): (Gives "take-a-wild-guess" face.) Blonde Server finds my server, Mary. As Blonde Server and Mary argue over whose table I am, I grab my keys, brush past them, and leave. Okay. A few pointers. Buspeople: Pay attention. Your job while I'm present does not begin and end with delivery of a glass of water. Notice customers who look neglected. Alert the server table X has been waiting a long time for service. Also, you underestimate the placating power of coffee. BRING COFFEE TO THE TABLE. The server won't forget to charge for it, I promise. Servers: I know the last hour is a bitch. You're trying to get your sidework done while juggling the stragglers. But this is not rocket science. Know your station, and then take care of those people in your station. If you notice a customer is being neglected but they're not in your station, take their damn order anyway. Shout the order into the kitchen without a ticket if you have to. The cooks will appreciate not having to make a meal five minutes before close, and the server actually assigned to the table will be glad they don't have an angry customer on their hands. You guys should be looking out for one another. Host: Your job doesn't end with placing a menu on the table. Give the restaurant frequent walk-throughs to ensure everyone is happy and taken care of. I really enjoy the food here, but such blatant disregard for the customer makes it difficult for me to want to return. Also, that is where you can see all the action and appreciate how busy they were. There is not much I can say about the food - average meal at a reasonable price. The pancakes were a bit small for my taste. I didn't have leftovers. When I have leftovers I feel I am getting my money's worth. We were seated as soon as we walked in, the selection was great, the food was exactly as we ordered it, and everyone loved their food. I walked in and was impressed with what they did to the space (since I had been here once awhile back when Top Notch had a restaurant here). After looking at their extensive menu I decided on a build your own skillet Scrambled with ham, mushrooms, and monterey jack cheese) with pancakes and my mom had a turkey club with chicken noodle soup. The skillet was tasty with just the right mix of ingredients. The pancakes were also tasty (and they served it with warm syrup...yum!). My mom said her turkey club hit the spot but the soup reminded her more of an egg drop soup versus a chicken noodle. All in all a good experience, albeit a bit pricey. Went in today and was treated poorly! My sister in law ordered her food and when it arrived she noticed a hair in it. The waiter came and took it from her and brought another plate but she was already so turned off as anyone would be she didn't touch the meal. I went to go pay and asked if it could be removed or discounted something. And instead was given an attitude and instead she replied well I wish you would have said something before the order was made and was just rude. My sister in law is a shy timid girl and doesn't like confrontation so once the manager came I told him the whole situation and explained how rude the lady was along with her co worker as a witness telling him how rude she was and needless to say nothing was done instead I paid for the whole meal no apology for the food or waitress just an excuse on how hard covid hit but also in my face without a mask.
