Based on the recommendation of a friend, tried this restaurant on a Sunday morning around 10am. Loved the food. Service was fine. Prices pretty standard. Good ambiance while we were there as it wasn't too crowded or loud. Would definitely return.

An experience to say the least. I went on a Sunday for brunch. The DJ was TURNT. I felt like I was in undergrad in Champaign. The music was good but entirely too loud. I guess I am getting old. There's a a mixed crowd In terms of age. We had a 2pm reservation and were seated by 2:15. When we sat down we were informed the kitchen was backed up due to large parties but we could order drinks to start. Our food order wasn't taken until 3:15. I was livid and hangry yall. I was two seconds away from asking for my drink bill and going to McDonalds across the way. I'm so glad I didn't because my food was so good. It's truly what saved this review. I had the gumbo grits and catfish. Spicy but delicious. My cousin had the chicken and waffle and lamb chop and waffle everything was great. We also got a mimosa flight and they had ran out of watermelon and subbed out a flavor. I'm excited to hear the are opening another location but nervous about their supply chain and staffing. I'll def be back when time allows. Maybe with ear plugs. Lbs

I've heard such mixed review about this place. The reality is that the food is pretty good. The prices are way too high but I recognize the kind of experience they are trying to create. I believe the service was just okay, and the food has some unique combinations. But the ambiance gives tik tok resturant, which is fine! They have a specific audience, and for the food to actually be good is a win! Just don't come here expecting to spend less than $100 for 2 people.

The drinks here can be potent--which is definitely a good thing! Just pace yourself so they don't sneak up on you. One of my friends was toasted... pun intended! I had the salmon hash, which was tasty, but I think it would be even better if the salmon pieces were cut smaller--it would help balance the dish more evenly. Our waitress was very nice and down-to-earth, which made the experience even better. The decor was stylish and inviting, and the music gave the whole place a lively, energetic vibe. Overall, a great spot to relax, eat, and enjoy a good time with friends.

I came here as soon as I landed. I arrived starving and left completely satisfied. The portions were generous without feeling sloppy or overdone. Everything tasted seasoned well, not bland but not trying too hard either. Those eggs were scrambled to perfection! It's the kind of spot you recommend to friends when they say, "I just want something good."

I really like this place. I've ordered it quite a few times when I work from home. Only thing is I feel the portion size is smaller when you take it home. For me only I don't like the mandatory gratuity added onto your check. I adjust my tip based on service. I also like when I place my order how fast I can pick it up.

Finally I made it to Toast It IZ and the experience was tea! I came to celebrate a good friend of mine birthday brunch and I must say this experience was definitely beyond my expectations! Happy to find parking, reservations were easy and prompt. The hostess was very nice and my waiter was very down to earth and quick on his feet. The photographer was great and it was a great vibe! Ran into another former classmate , but she always been good people! The ambiance is nice, the music was a vibe. My friend looked beautiful for her birthday. The shrimp and grits were good. The seasoning has a hint of Smokey flavor to it that was a little bit off, but definitely good dish. There is a 18% gratuity and yes the food is expensive. I would come back again! Thanks to Toast! My first brunch of the year! It's a Saturday! I heard about Sunday being turnt up. That's cool and all, but Saturday is more of my vibe. R&B and Neo Soul vibe!

The banana pudding chicken and waffles, omg, so good!! Loved the birthday demonstration. Free parking and an extensive menu with plenty options. Tables could be a bit wider as they got quickly filled after the drink flights. Fast service. Love the decorations. Would definitely return.

Went here for a lunch on a Friday. By around 1pm a deejay started playing so you know this place has the vibes of a good time. Our server was super nice, wish I knew her name. We sat down quickly and the food came out soon after we ordered, so service was great. I ordered the sea house omelette, which has lobster baked in. It was seasoned well, the eggs were cooked properly, but it was missing something. I added hot sauce over top, but I wish it had its own sauce to make it great. It was just OK for me. It came with toast. I wish the toast was buttered and that they had more varieties of toast, given the name, but they only offered white or wheat. It came with no other sides which I thought was a real shame, not only for the price but also for the experience. My friend had the chicken with banana pudding waffles. She subbed out eggs for potatoes. She didn't like her chicken, which were Wingdings and not whole wings. She said they had a strange taste I tried her waffle and it definitely tasted like banana pudding on top. I liked them. She also said her potatoes were tasty. I would go back and try something else. A table next to us had the shrimp deviled eggs and said they were good. I would like to try those next time. I would say overall great job on decor, location and service!

    Gumbo grits and mimosa flight

The good: - The Fried green tomatoes and the Mimosa flight were amazing The not so good: - The gumbo grits just didn't do it for me. The catfish was tasty, but the grits were lumpy and loose somehow. Also the gumbo just was not good for me. Too much like a gravy with very little meat and veggies. I ended up with a soupy mess. - the music way waaaaaaay too loud for how small the place was. I would give them another try if invited out. Ps. This has a club twerk vibe. Just fyi if you were expecting a more traditional airy low key brunch vibe.

I usually come here for coffee and donuts, but recently I tried a few other things on their menu. We brunch and ordered plenty, but the food missed the mark for me. Beverly Bakery & Cafe was a lot better than we expected at first. Kind of in a not so impressive area to be honest. The atmosphere inside it though has a cozy feeling and the food was impressive with pretty big portions. Basically we were going to a few bars early when we saw this and thought to get something to eat first. It's in a kind of unassuming area with sketchy looking auto shops. The inside is a lot better though. Actually pretty impressed with it. Menu has lots of choices for any preference. Certainly one of the few great places for breakfast around here. It's about $13 for an entree which comes with a lot. Filling. I chose a hearty one, the Vegan Skillet. This has green peppers, mushrooms, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, and zucchini. A lot packed into it. She got the French Toast. Made with soy milk. This comes topped with bananas or blueberries, good stuff. For sure we could go here again. It's closed Mondays. There's plenty to get for vegans and vegetarians.

Once my sister arrived and turned her mug over, we found lipstick marks on the outside of a supposedly clean mug... okay, no problem. The waitress was appalled and brought another mug. She took our orders. I got a patty melt on rye with mushrooms added, with fries. My sister got the garden skillet with pancakes. It took a while for everything to come. While waiting, I got a cup of cream of chicken & rice soup (too watery and too much lemon), only to have a long hair caught between the bowl and saucer... yes, that went back too. Finally, our food arrived lukewarm. My sister's butter wouldn't melt on her pancakes, so we had to send that back as well. By this point, we just nibbled and chatted. It may be the original location, or that honor may go to the yet unvisited-by-me third location closer to the Loop, but in any case, this Huck Finn definitely feels different from the one I'm used to. The lighting fixtures, booths, and art all have the same tacky early-2000s feel as the other location, but that's where the similarities end. This one is much smaller, although its dessert-case area has its own tables, and the outside of the building advertises ice cream. This Huck Finn feels like a coffee shop, which is probably why my dad says he likes it more than the "original"--original to us, at least. It has a counter, and while the building looks large from outside, it has about half the seating of Oak Lawn. There's a funky mirror near the bathrooms that makes it look like there's a back dining room--or possibly a Den of Iniquities like the original--but it's all an optical illusion. Service is quick and efficient, as it is at Oak Lawn. Our server, though, was a familiar no-nonsense throwback to an earlier time. Oak Lawn has some of those, but most of its servers are younger women with the thickest Chicago/Great Lakes accents you'll ever hear. (Seriously, although they're all under thirty-five, they sound like they're about to start collecting Social Security.) She was short on small talk, but she made up for it with sass and a whole lot of hard work. The food is good, although the menu is more limited than Oak Lawn's. One thing I don't like is that the menus are flimsy printouts. Oak Lawn at least has laminated pages, although I miss the old multi-page booklet-style menus. Oh well. They have Texas and Alaska donuts here, so it's a legit Huck Finn. It's physically possible to make a left turn onto Pulaski from their parking lot, but I think it's illegal, as you'd have to cross a quadruple yellow line.
