Flame Broiler used to be a go-to spot for a quick, healthy fill of carbs and protein when there was a location closer to my house. Several years later, I walk past this store in The Shops at La Jolla Village every week when I am redeeming a free ice cream serving from a nearby business. The marquee was updated to look more modern and prominent than the previous signage. Several tables were set up outside of the suite if you wanted to dine on-site. The menu offerings have remained the same with mini-bowls, regular bowls, or plates as the serving vessels; chicken, angus beef, half & half, or organic tofu as the proteins; and white rice, brown rice, veggies, or rice & veggies as the base. One area that has changed was the prices which have dramatically increased. For example, a regular bowl used to cost well under $10. The chicken bowl is now the only variety that was less than that mark. The business also used to frequently advertise with coupons in the monthly mailers, but those have long disappeared. A regular bowl with angus beef and white rice was my selection. Dispensers of magic sauce and hot sauce were at the service counter in which you could help yourself to portions in little plastic cups. The magic sauce was basically teriyaki while the hot sauce was similar to tabasco. The bowl was topped with green onions only per my request. The beef and rice were cooked just fine. I do have to say the service was still very efficient. I don't believe I have ever waited longer than a few minutes for my order to be prepared and ready.

Ordered online for pickup, and service was super quick. This location is a small stand with nearby outdoor seating. I love Flame Broiler for a good, nutritious, and filling meal! I always get the plate for 7oz of chicken, rice, salad, veggies, and fruit. All for under $13, very worth the price.

I was looking for a quick healthy lunch yesterday during my workday and this was perfect! The tofu was prepared well and the chicken was very flavorful. The value is on point if you're looking for an inexpensive option that will fill you up. Serve your self sauces were a delicious bonus.

This is a tiny place. You order inside but eat at one of the tables outside. Server was nice. Ordered the small tofu bowl and the chicken bowl. Price was affordable. But the taste matches the price. It wasnt something to write home about. It wasnt bad. It just didnt give me the wow factor.

My autistic daughter loves this place. Today, we bypassed several restaurants because she wanted to eat here again, the second night in a row on our vacation. She says the tofu pieces here are bigger and a bit more delicious than other flame broilers. I like that she's getting protein and some reasonably healthy food in her besides the three other food options she chooses regularly. I tried their tofu myself, it is pretty good!

dawg ngl i wasn't rly fw this at all bruh. i got some chicken bowl thing with white rice and man. im disappointed. like ik that shi is flame broiled or whatever but the chicken deadass just tasted like charcoal and smoke bruh. like no other flavor whatsoever to that shi i think they cooked the chicken on bare coals or sum fam. like nah. and also the proportions of chicken to rice was like 1:20 bruh. very lil bits of chicken to like hella rice. omg and don't lemme get started on that rice tho bruh. that shi tasted like bare ahh charcoal :sob: lmao. i deadahh think they be smoking all their food or sum bruh. like there's no other flavor besides smokiness. and it ain't even a good smoky flavor either tbh. man and i gotta say the sauces weren't rly it either bruh. the magic sauce is wayyyyy too sweet bro. like it's just overly sugary and unpalatable. wasn't fw it all. the lil jalapeño sauce wasn't bad. had a decent kick to it too. overall this place a nay man. nah and for $14 for a lil ahh bowl w barely any chicken? do better man. do better.

A decent spot to grab a quick lunch in the UTC area. My chicken was a little over cooked and the veggies were a little undercooked. The sauce had good flavor and brought everything together.

THE MELT @ LA JOLLA…read more This spot is open until 2 AM, so if you're craving food late at night, this is definitely a place to check out! The Melt has really good, high quality food that honestly does not taste like your typical fast food. This was actually my first time at the La Jolla location. I had previously been to the Delaware location, and every single time I've gone, the food has been so good. This time, I got the Oreo Shake, Melt Burger, Mac & Cheese, and Garlic Bacon Fries, and honestly, everything was a 10 out of 10. The quality is consistently so good, and I really love how flavorful everything is. It's also a really quick and easy spot. You can order through the kiosk or at the front counter, grab your food when it's ready, and sit wherever you'd like. You're also expected to clean up after yourself, which keeps everything pretty simple. The vibe inside is decent. It honestly reminds me of a typical fast food chain, but the biggest difference is that the food quality is definitely not fast food. Everything tastes fresh, delicious, and much higher quality than what you would normally expect from a quick service restaurant. I've been here past 2 AM a couple of times, and there are quite a few homeless people walking back and forth in the surrounding area, so I would just recommend being aware of your surroundings, especially if you're coming late at night. Overall, I really love The Melt and would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area or looking for a late night food spot!

After my appointment at the Veteran Affairs we passed by here at Mendocino Farm La Jolla…read more Our first time here so we just picked which one looks good and sounds good on the menu board. We picked PERUVIAN STEAK SANDWICH, a seared steak tossed in Spicy aji amarillo sauce, then their CHIMICHURRI STEAK BACON; it's a seared steak and applewood-smoked bacon, and also got their SMOKEY BBQ BRIOCHE SANDWICH , this one is a smoke Pork burnt ends with BBQ sauce. Every sandwich we had tasted good, but i like the most the Chimichurri Steak & Bacon, it's more to my palate, not too sweet or not too spicy. Service was quick our sandwiches were done quickly, plenty of staff go around checking the tables and greeting the customers. Parking is easy, with lots of spaces.

I like the Mendocino Farms concept and we had a good experience at the first one we visited (it was…read morenot this one) so I was disappointed with our long wait for three to-go sandwiches and a cup of soup. I think I was sitting in the store for at least 30 minutes while a family member waited in our car and watched several people park, get their orders and leave. Two people who ordered after us received their food before we did. I finally stood up and only then did an associate crabbily pack up our order and give it to us. When we first arrived, no one even showed up at the counter for at least five minutes. There was another customer waiting behind us as well. My sandwich (Happy Hippie) was not very good...insubstantial and put together in a blah manner. A family member who had the "not so fried chicken sandwich" said it was too salty. I paid $62 for this order (with a tip, which I had added before the long wait...) It obviously wasn't a good value, This is a beautiful and clean store but a general lack of enthusiasm from the associates, inconsistent customer service, high prices, and mediocre quality food will dissuade me from making any future visits to this location.

Free Whopper from the T-Mobile Tuesdays app!…read more Sometimes, the residents of the 50th State might feel shortchanged. For example: on television, we see advertisements for Kohl's... And there are no Kohl's stores in Hawaii! Similarly, on the T-Mobile Tuesday app, there are offers for discounted movie tickets through Atom - we don't have Atom in the Aloha State! So - when I was in California, I was able to get my free Whopper from Burger King (because we can't redeem the offer in Hawaii - I don't know why)! Driving from Los Angeles to San Diego takes about two hours. By that time, I needed a restroom and something "free" to eat. I thought I could get three things done at one stop by going to the nearest Burger King. GPS said that the nearest Burger King was on the campus of UCSD (University of California at San Diego)... Okay! However, the pin's location on the map was totally wrong. I drove all over campus, looking for the Burger King. Finally, I parked and asked some students where the Burger King was. It happened to be at the Campus Center with other vendors. (It's actually a really modern and artsy place while being clean, spacious, and functional!) I ordered the $3 minimum on the app (soft drink with free upgrade to large!) and applied the code for the free Whopper. I asked the cashier where the nearest restroom was... Around the corner... Pass the meeting rooms... Alrighty! By the time I returned, my meal was ready! Gosh... That took some work! Uhg!
