So, stopped by Flame Broiler to pick up dinner for the family. Ordered two half-and-half plates and an Angus Rib plate. Got back home and discovered I had an Angus beef plate instead of and Angus rib plate. Very frustrating. I blame myself for not checking before I left the restaurant. But the responsibility for preparing the order right isn't mine. These days it seems like there's a mistake in virtually every other take-out order I get. Went back to the restaurant. I was asked if I wanted to pay the difference. I said, 'No, I didn't wanna pay the difference because I ordered the Angus rib plate so that should of been what I was charged. If the cashier rang me up for something different then that was her error. I would like to add, the difference between the Angus rib plate, on the menu for $10.60, and Angus beef plate, on the menu for $10.55, is, you guessed it, 5 cents. I told her I thought it was pretty ridiculous she's asking me to pay more when I had to return from home to get my order fixed. I didn't so much as get a "Sorry for you trouble." I never leave here unsatisfied. I know there are a few Flame Broilers in the area but I have always felt this one is the best. Up until they raised their prices, I would go here at least three times a week. Now, I settle for maybe once. The owner is extremely friendly and she recognizes you if you come in enough. The food is great, simple, but great. It is filling and healthy at the same time. It never leaves me feeling gross like most greasy fast food joints or other 'beef bowl' places. I always get the chicken bowl with green onions and brown rice. I like to stock up on the jalapenos and carrots. I hold on extra magic sauce because I try to keep it as healthy as possible. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to eat if I am in a hurry or after a long workout. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to keep it simple and tasty. read more

Not all Flame Broilers are created equal. There is another location on Euclid that is awful. I've also been to one in La Habra that was equally awful. This one, this one is ALWAYS good. The chicken is never hard and dry because they grill it when you get there. The veggies are cooked so perfectly and the rice is not dry or soggy. I am never worried about if my food will taste like it's been sitting around for a while because I've ordered lunch from here at least 15 times now and the consistency is what keeps me coming back. Like so many others have said, this store is INDEED the KING (Queen?) of the Flame Broilers! I get the Works plate with both meats and NO rice, all vegetables with onions! You get a little lettuce salad with a slightly creamy Italian dressing and a cleverly cut orange that easily comes apart to eat off the peel. With NO MSG, the sodium is pretty low in these, but if you want to really keep sodium down, they will custom broil the meats with no coating. That just takes a few minutes. Their sodium chart says 870 mg sodium for the WHOLE plate WITH the marinade on the meat, so I get it now. They have a dark teriyaki sauce that is surely a sodium hell but sure tastes good, but for me they have a red spicy hot sauce that is actually CAJUN CHEF Hot Sauce, even though the containers are now unlabeled (they used to be labeled). I LOVE IT! That is a Louisiana hot sauce which I have tried to buy online TWICE and both vendors NEVER delivered! I sure wish FB would sell it, but if ANYONE knows where a store may have it here in Orange county, please let me know! read more

This is the healthiest lunch that is fast, that I can grab on the go, when I have had no time to pack a meal and am rushing to make it to class on time. I get the "works" bowl with brown rice and it is so good. Its a lot of protein and brown rice. It keeps me full for hours. The customer service is great. I especially like the Latin guy that works in the afternoon. He is so nice. Everyone is really really nice though. This was one of our favorite places to get some really good, cheap grub back in my college days at Cal State Fullerton. Can't beat flame broiled beef or chicken, topped with their signature sweet teriyaki sauce over some rice and veggies! The only thing that sucks is that it's located in a relatively small mini-mall strip and the parking is very limited. I've seen a few other branches pop up in recent years, one in Brea, one in Cypress, and one really close to where I live now in the City of Industry. I think it's time to revisit this place... The Rib Plate is Korean-style marinated short ribs atop your choice of white or brown rice, and served with salad and fruit garnish. The short ribs were pretty good for fast food. The ribs were definitely marinated for quite a while as the flavor penetrated the meat really well, tasting almost like teriyaki. You feel your carnivorous side come out as you gnaw on the bone to get each piece of meat off. I prefer the brown rice as it has more flavor than just white rice. A little bit a shoyu (soy sauce) and/or "Happy Sauce" and you're good to go. The salad was fresh and house sesame supreme dressing was very good. Thumbs up! The Half & Half Plate is beef and chicken with the same choices as above. If you can't make up your mind, the Chicken and Beef Plate is the way to go. They give you a lot of meat on the plate dishes so you'll definitely get your fill of protein. The chicken is okay on its own, but once you top it with some the Happy Sauce, it's amazing! The Happy Sauce really does make everything happy whether it is meat, vegetables, or rice. The beef was perfectly marinated and cooked. It was just great all by itself with some rice. This version also comes in a mini or regular bowl option too. Thumbs up! read more

The place always look really empty .. employees included and they just don't seem very interested or excited to be there to be serving who comes into the restaurant. Small location. Small parking lot. If you are looking to eat inside, you will have to settle for a spot on the long counter facing the window. Only one single table/chair available. Ok. So let me start by saying the service is amazing. I think I've been about 5 times to this location. There's a tall Asian guys there. He's the best. He always smiles. Never rude. Healthy eating is a choice so I have to say this is a good option for is healthy eaters. Magic Sauce, spicy sauce and Soy sauce are the option also green onions. Bowls or plates , beef or chicken are your main choices. I finished the plate and they also increased the size of their plates way to step it up. I've been to this Flame Broiler at least 20 times over the past five years, and have NEVER been disappointed. Great food and service. One of the men who worked there recognized me during several of my stops and he always made it a point to say "hello" and go out of his way to ask how I've been. I attended the nearby high school. As a result, I frequently went here for lunch or after school. Really, some of the best teriyaki around. Unlike most other teriyaki places that tend to just boil their meat, they grill their chicken and beef to perfection, with just the right amount of charring on the outside. They put just the right amount of teriyaki sauce on the meat, so as not to be too over powering. The best part was the side of green onions. I always put extra as it really completes the entire meal. I remember this place as being really busy, especially during the lunch hours. This is due to its proximity to several colleges and high schools in the area. Since moving away from the area they have expanded to several locations. I have tried the other locations but I'm still convinced that their original Fullerton location is the best. read more

The Flame Broiler on Chapman is a bit of a mess. Literally. I've really tried to make it work... To be fair, some of isn't their fault, like the awful, dirty, impossibly tiny parking lot filled with gigantic Ford Exterminators, etc, parked in compact spaces. However, once inside, the food is quite good, if one can overlook the not so clean dining room. Since this place is walking distance from my office, I never drive there any more, nor do I eat in-house. Maybe it's just me, but when the windows look like hell, the whole place seems dirty. OK, back to the food - I prefer the Brea location, but the chicken dishes here are above average. Still, it seems like once a month or so is all I can handle of this location, and it's no fun in the summer when the sun blazing in through those windows makes the place feel like a cheap sauna. read more

I have dined at this location a few times over the years so I have a baseline for my review. Today, I ordered the steak bowl, which is my typical go-to menu item. I got it to go and drove back to work. I open the lid and right away the steak look like bone-dry jerky. As I ate the steak, I was very disappointed in the quality, texture, and taste of the meat. Even the rice this time was mushy and like a solid chuck of rice. While I understand its fast food, this was just plain ol' bad. Neighbors!!!! Do not eat at this Flame Broiler!!! My husband and I ordered 2 chicken bowls, no rice. The chicken was pre-cooked and they just warmed it up on the grill. When my husband asked for fresh chicken, the pulled out a few pieces of pre-boiled chicken and cooked it on the grill. They were NOT happy about this request. We paid $14.47 for two bowls with mostly cabbage, 2-3 pieces of broccoli and a couple of pieces of carrots. The chicken was tasteless and the services people were rude. I have enjoyed Flame Broiler food until now. If it weren't for the extra we paid for the veggies (ahem - if you can call 90% cabbage "veggies") I would not have wasted my time posting this.
