The Flaggy...as it is know by the locals..is a local pub by all means!! Half the hotel is a large front/sports bar with all the usual TAB facilities, cheap counter meals and cheap beer. However if its atmosphere or class you want give it a miss!! The decor is drab, the seats worn and the carpet threadbare. If you want a beer after work in your overalls this is the place to be. The other half is made up of 50% pokie room, with some limited outdoor seating mainly for the smoking rules. The room is large, bright and noisy with all the pokies being busy! The other 50% is the Bistro. I have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. The menu is as any other bistro menu and has all the faves. The main selling point of this bistro though is the extensive salad bar included with all meals. Not only salad but also, soup and breads, veg, fruit, sauces....as much as you want! The bistro also includes 4/5 games consoles...im guessing to keep kids occupied. Small serve was disappointing. Ordered Roast of the Day and got 3 tiny slices of beef, yes the salad and veg bar is good but $25 for a tiny serve of roast was just poor form by this hotel. Would not recommend. It's busy , clean but expensive and you're better off hitting Gouger Street or somewhere else that offers value. read more

Commonly referred to as "The Flaggy" by the locals. I recently went here for a birthday lunch. We went in and were seated. It was a constant stream of people but not so busy you had to wait ages or didn't get served quickly. Basically there is not really waiter service here. You can go to the bar and buy your drinks at any time. You get up and walk to the menu board and stand in line until you get to the register to order and then pay. All meals come with free salad and vegetable bar. They did offer a seniors discount to someone I was with who was eligible which made that meal even cheaper again. The pricing was pretty good and the food was nice. We had a lovely relaxing lunch with a table by the window. My dessert is the photo which was a strawberry and waffle creation. It was so good. Lightly toasted waffles with flavoured ice cream slighlty melting with the warmth of the waffle. So simple but so good. For a pub attached restaurant it was really good. They also have a few playstations for the kids to use. Restaurant only hours are lunch 11:30am to 2:30pm and dinner 5:30pm to 9:00pm. The open hours in business info is for the hotels opening times. There's also a sports bar. They have their own menu with most counter meals under $14. In addition they have poker nights on Sundays and Tuesdays, trivia night on Wednesdays and meat and booze raffles on Fridays. They also have TAB and Keno in the Sports Bar. Then there's of course the poker machines. I'm not into them myself but if you are they have a great rewards card type system and for every $30 you redeem off your J Card you get a $20 voucher for use in the dining room. They also have double and triple happy hour points at certain times on different days. Details are on their website. And finally attached to the Hotel is the Sip'n'Save bottleshop. So if you just want to grab something on your way home this is easy and convenient before to drive in and out then continue back up the hill. If you are ot heading south it is a slight pain in the arse to try and turn around at this intersection. They do advise making a booking first so maybe give a call to avoid disappointment. The Flagstaff - well. well. well. The comfortable favourite for locals around the area. The people who visit the Flagstaff are happy with the Flagstaff and they don't need no other meal establishments - oh heeelllll no. I've been here a few times with my partners parents. It's a very stock standard pub with stock standard pub meals. There is a salad/veg bar which on two occasions I really enjoyed - but on the last occasion, found it watery, bland and disappointing. Food has never been too bad. There is always lots on the plate & surprisingly the 'easily ruined' meat, kangaroo was really not too bad. The venue is quite bright and a pretty cavernous space filled with tons of tables and chairs. I have nearly killed myself on every turn in to the carpark from busy South Road. Changed the menu again and now there is only one vego option- a lasagna. Which would have been ok if a) it wasn't 40C and b) I hadn't had pasta for lunch. Previously there have been at least 2 vego dishes on the menu so I had somewhat of a choice... not anymore. I still remember the first time I came here. I wanted to have at least one day by myself at home and did everything possible to avoid being contacted by my friends, however at 6:00 pm at night I got a call asking me to come down to this pub and for some reason I couldn't refuse. It turned out that all I my friend's were here so we ended up making a night of it. It has ended up that I have frequented this place quite often, namely because it was next to a bus stop and another friend lived just around the corner. However, as a pub it is a pretty ordinary pub with the exception of one thing - the balcony outside of the pokies room. That one balcony is really, really cool - to the point that my friend and I ended up requisitioning it for ourselves. It overlooks this creek with a natural area sloping down from the road. Today we're at The Flagstaff; A hotel that's situated on the corner of the busy South and Marion Road intersection. We were here in the early evening and I couldn't decide if the view of traffic speeding by with their twinkling head lights was strangely comforting or causing some mild anxiety. Hubby and I had both had a bit of a stressful day and I don't think we'd wound down enough when we entered the Hotel. I know I myself just wasn't "feeling it" tonight and I don't think that was The Flagstaff's fault. We walked into the large Bistro area dining room. Hubby saw the Salad Bar immediately and his eyes lit up but my guess is he researched this before we left home and that's why he wanted to come here. Cheeky. We felt a little lost but grabbed a table while I searched for some menu's. There were a LOT of people here so this place is happening although I think we brought the average age level down a little when we walked in. I thought there were lots of good options on the menu but nothing jumped out at me. It was regular good pub food. Again, I just wasn't feeling it so I don't want to blame that on The Flagstaff. I waited in the long line to place our order while hubby gleefully raced to the salad bar. I ended up ordering the Baked Barramundi - Served with eggplant, truss tomatoes, ratatouille and a salsa verde (I'm not convinced I got all that) and hubby ordered the Pulled Pork Burger - slow cooked pork,double smoked bacon, tasty cheese, slaw, and kewpi mayonnaise on a glazed bun with sliced dill pickles and crunchy chips The salad bar greatly lived up to hubby's expectations. Lots of cold and hot choices AND two choices of soup as well. I noticed the potatoes, broccoli and pasta salad all had heavy doses of cream. I tried some of the "rich tomato soup" and I wasn't sure what to think. It tasted like someone had added cream and cheese to a canned soup. Perhaps I'm being too harsh but it wasn't to my liking, however everything else there was just fine. We saw other meals coming out and immediately got diners envy. Everything looked big and delicious! We weren't disappointed with our plates when they came out either. Hubby's Pulled Pork Burger looked amazing!! Overflowing with that pork and just oozing yumminess. I wasn't sure how he was going to be able to eat it though and told him "good luck with that". I'm pretty sure he'd zoned out at that stage and only had senses for the burger he was about to devour. Eventually he said "It's a bitch to eat but I love it" which summed the dish up nicely! The pulled pork was tender and had a gorgeous taste and was definitely a winner. My Barramundi dish looked pretty good when it came out too. I love the different colours. It definitely was an inviting dish but I just would have liked to have been able to see the fish. The broccoli and greens were good. Tasty, crunchy and a nice compliment to the fish. The fish itself was cooked really well and tasted lovely. I had no complaints about it although I really could have done without that sauce that was so very thick and rich. I wasn't won over by the ratatouille. It was almost like a carrot fritter. I'm assuming the orange thing is the ratatouille. I'm really not sure. The menu also said that there would be eggplant and truss tomatoes - or were they in the ratatouille? I don't know, but I couldn't taste them. These are all just minor things. The star of the dish was the Barramundi and it was delicious. I would recommend you try The Flagstaff for yourself. It's very popular and you're sure to find something you like on the menu - Dare I say it, the salad bar alone is worth the visit. read more

Oh Flagstaff, what to say about you? Decor is well, what you would expect of a bistro attached to a pub/bar mediocre, but not worth complaining about. You don't go to these places for the decor! It's so empty I am afraid to drop anything in fear that it would echo all around me like one of those twilight zone episodes. It's a cold winters day outside and it's not much different inside. Had to order a cuppa tea to keep myself warm whilst waiting for the other dinner guests. The staff, unlike the interior climate, are warm and bubbly. Ordered tea for two, and it came out quickly, it would have been nice if the cups didn't have coffee grains on the outside, but it wasn't dirty enough to complain about. I don't know what type of tea it was but for a self admitted tea snob, it was lacklustre, it tasted like milky water. So sad. Anyway time for the food, the salad bar- first stop bread rolls: toasty and warm on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, oh hey they got bread rolls right! Now we got here early, just as the kitchens were opening so the salad bar was all quite fresh. The only negative is their 'tomato soup' which was suspiciously the texture, scent, and flavours of marinara sauce, I'm onto you! I ordered the eye fillet steak, medium rare over a bed of mashed potatoes and a side of creamy garlic sauce (or as I like to call it, cream chive sauce, wait was that garlic? No it was more Chives!) other than the lacklustre sauce the meal was very nice. Steak cooked perfectly, Mashed potato was actually mashed, and not cold. Toilets could use a once over...blergh...took one star away purely for this because no stall was clean. You either love or hate this place, or you're me- and you're left confused about the whole experience. Admittedly I would happily eat here again. Two for you, flagstaff, you go flagstaff! read more

I was disgusted with the attitude of the lady staff member on our visit to the Flagstaff Hotel last Saturdat night.. We stopped for dinner after going to Clipsal 500, My grandsons partner who is 3 months pregnant wasn't feeling well and was not hungry so did not want a full dinner and just Picked a bit off her partners salad plate. We paid for 3 meals and there was 4 of us, the lady staff member came up and said someone will have to pay for a 4th meal seeing as my grandsons partner had eaten 3 bits of Potato!!! We tried to explain that she didn't feel well.. ! So we Paid another $18.00, for just 3 bits of potato, how ridiculous!!!! I explained to the staff member that we eat there often and that $18 was a bit too much to expect us to pay for 3 bits of potato, but she said she couldn't do anything about it and said 'it's their policy'. I said that we would not be coming back to eat again....she said she would go speak to the manager and we didn't see her again!!!! We had always enjoyed the food and service there in the past but NOT GOING BACK AGAIN!!! read more

The Flaggy it is known as.. It has a sports bar, pokies and bistro area aswell as a tiny outside sitting area mainly for the smokers which is located near the pokies area. The sports bar is more of a bar for the locals, The decor isn't great and the atmosphere in the place is a bit dull..I prefer to sit in the seating area outside, than the sports bar. The bistro area is the best place about the pub it has good food, you have a salad and veg bar where you can help yourself, aswell as a choice of 2 soups and bread rolls.
