The theme is based on the tale of the flying trunk. The cocktails are delicious. We had the salted caramel star and the so flute. I loved the little pretzel star in the salted caramel. They also serve tapas food. They also serve tapas food. We had the pan fried gnocchi with artichokes, and the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes. Mmm! The prices are pretty reasonable as well. The cocktails are $17 - $20. The tapas is under $15. We also had a lovely conversation with the owner evi about the design of the place. I'd love to come back again on my way home from workies :) Nothing much more I can add to what Karen F had commented, both Adam & Evi are great hosts. Very attentive and explained both the cocktails and food very well and enticed us into trying them. Enjoyable evening.

I have only been here for a wine and cocktail so far but this place really adds to the quirky little shops, bakeries and cafes that are popping up on KWR! Fast and friendly service, combined with some unique concoctions and names of cocktails means you will spend most of your time there deciding which cocktail you'll get when you next return. The Elephant Espress is on my list to try next time. If you are like my other half though and think cocktail is for cordial drinkers then never fear - the wine and beer list is for quoffers and swirlers alike. These guys take their booze seriously and I am definitely signing up for one of their monthly "tasting flight masterclasses" in the future.

While I should probably be more reserved about sharing…read morethis sort of thing in public, I have absolutely no shame in admitting that I very much enjoyed Gemtree's wine. (We just finished our last bottle last week. Sad face). Generally, when people start talking about bio-dynamic growing techniques, organic whatnot, our eyes gloss over because I usually interpret that as compensation for why the wine doesn't taste as good. It's often been the case for me this past decade. Gemtree, however, blew a massive hole in this trend, theory, assumption or whatever. Massive hole. These are bold, character-filled, and pretty damn good wines that dare you to diss them. They are un-dissable! We followed the completely backwards directions of our GPS, which directed us to the administrative offices, not the tasting room. Bad GPS. However, because of this misdirection, we were able to see just how expansive the Gemtree estate was. This is quite a bit of grape-growing land! Which made a lot more sense later, when the floor cut-out in the tasting room showed the different soils across the area and how they relate to the wines. The wines were amazing, the playground came in SUPER handy for the kiddo, I kicked the soccer ball on the grounds, learned some new things about poo, and gained a greater appreciation for all the science and care that goes into making all this very lovely wine. Stop, visit, take in the breathtaking scenery, learn some new things, and buy tons of their wine.

Their thorough knowledge allowed us to start the day with plenty of info ready to take to following venues. The wines were all superb and I certainly didn't leave empty handed! Although it was a chilly summers day when we visitied, I can see this being a fantastic place to soak up the sun with a few drinks in hand - their balcony area has a great view and there's even a playground to keep any children tagging along happy. Check out this gorgeous little winery - well worth a stop in!

Zahr made way for a new eatery. V2 Social House is its rather telling - I'm guessing its the same people behind it... V2 meaning version 2? - though aesthetically odd name. The 'social house' aspect sounds kind of fun. And if you look at the logo, it conjures up a bit of excitement. Is this place going to be as interesting as The Pot or Faraja? Communal tables. Interesting shared dishes. Yes please... But then you eat there. Zahr serves up more of the same. Small plates. There is certainly a Mediterranean twist to this menu which is nice, and many of the small plates do look interesting. Pizza. Really? Why must restaurants insist on pizza? And some disappointingly predictable starters - bruschetta, arancini balls. Please! I went for a bruschetta for lunch. The bread was garlicy and oily - quite nice actually - and the tomato so ripe. It was fluffed up with a drizzle of fine olive oil but I couldn't taste a grain of salt. Oh, they provided me with salt and pepper on the side. Standard refined salt and that horrible cheap pepper dust your parents had on the table. My Coopers pale ale was fine. As I ordered I peered over the counter to see what sort of soy milk they used. Vitasoy. At $0.50 a serve to boot. Sorry, but this is inexcusable and an indicator of where there coffee is probably at. No barista worth their salt would combine a fine espresso shot with anything other than Bonsoy or Silk. Service was half-half. One waiter was not particularly warm and friendly. The other was quirky if a little disconnected. Perhaps this review comes across as a little hard or unfair. But no, I make no excuses for being just a little miffed by another restaurant doing the same old thing, where many other restaurants are already doing it better. If I hear one more restauranteur closing their doors and blaming penalty rates or The Greens or taxes, when its the fact they failed to differentiate themselves, I am going to scream. Be different people.

The two blue replica food trucks stood out amongst the timber. The exposed walls and ceilings was subtle which made way for booths, tables and chairs to be the centre of attention. Warm lighting was distributed throughout the space. Music was a tad loud for my liking which could become an issue if there were more patrons. Glassware and serving wares was simple, but modern. I especially liked the turquoise plates. We were offered two menus, the main one and the lunchtime specials. Table service is part and parcel of this establishment, as the friendly waiter attended to us offering us water, then took our order. We both decided on a bento box this time. I chose the soft-shelled crab and my friend had the terriyaki chicken. It was a difficult decision because so many items sounded delicious. Our meals arrived in a timely manner and we did not waste time digging in. My friend found her terriyaki to be too salty, but my crab was perfectly cooked, with a nice crunch to every bite. All bento boxes are served with a seasoned bean sprouts, cucumber and celery salad, a potato salad, broad beans and pickles. If you fancy something different, but with hints of familiarity, then come check it out. Fusion is very much alive in this place. Note: Construction of an outside area is currently in progress. Completion expected in the next month.

I've been caught out many times! The service has never been 5 star and sometimes it takes a while to be served. Staff always seem friendly though and I try to relax into the beach vibe instead of worrying that things aren't perfect. I like the atmosphere and it varies delaying on day and time of day. Sunday evenings is always busy and there is live music, plus an enthusiastic dancing crowd. Quite an older crowd the later it gets on Sundays. I have had a few meetings here in the day and it's a great spot to chill out and pretend to work ;-) I agree with Chloe about the food being a bit overly deep fried. I have had some tasty food here, and it does always look fresh and nicely presented, but some lighter options would be welcome. The cocktails look amazing, but somehow I just about always order sparkling wine! Bacchus is one of the better locations because of their good wine menu and well made cocktail and drinks list. They would get 5 stars in my books for location and the fact you can drink on the foreshore alone. Unfortunately though they have an incredibly ordinary food and tapas menu and no matter how many times I give that place a try I am always disappointed by their unoriginal, over fried, pre-packaged food. It's weird, because their menu and photos of food from Facebook always look so enticing, so maybe I'm just ordering wrong? Cocktails were all $30 - quite steep for this level of table service and setting. We had no drinks that night and decided on several appetizers and one large plate. We started with the crispy spring rolls - 3 to an order - which were served interestingly with a soy dipping sauce and not a sweet and sour one as is customary. It was different and good. Next we had the roasted pumpkin with labneh and pumpkin seeds. It was basically one small to medium wedge, well roasted and sliced and although tasty, not worth $18 AU. Next we had the Asian dumplings. They were beautifully plated and had just enough garlic and ginger in the pork filling. The sauce served with them had too much oil for my liking, the soy portion underneath the oil was just right. They were so tasty my better half ordered a second plate of them. Last and best was the crispy pork belly with Thai coconut sauce - it was almost like a curry - the fish sauce was very noticeable in a good way. The pork was tender and moist with crispy skin and the sauce was really delicious and well balanced. The dishes were all garnished exactly the same way with herbs, sliced scallions, cilantro and Fresno peppers. It would have been nice if there had been a bit more variety given the pricing.
