This is a joint review from two yelpers who stumbled across this cute little cocktail/tapas bar one…read moreThursday night. The walls of this bar make you feel like you are in a child's bedroom. The theme is based on the tale of the flying trunk. The cocktails are delicious. We had the salted caramel star and the so flute. I loved the little pretzel star in the salted caramel. They also serve tapas food. They also serve tapas food. We had the pan fried gnocchi with artichokes, and the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes. Mmm! The prices are pretty reasonable as well. The cocktails are $17 - $20. The tapas is under $15. We also had a lovely conversation with the owner evi about the design of the place. I'd love to come back again on my way home from workies :) Nothing much more I can add to what Karen F had commented, both Adam & Evi are great hosts. Very attentive and explained both the cocktails and food very well and enticed us into trying them. Enjoyable evening.

I have only been here for a wine and cocktail so far but this place really adds to the quirky little shops, bakeries and cafes that are popping up on KWR! Fast and friendly service, combined with some unique concoctions and names of cocktails means you will spend most of your time there deciding which cocktail you'll get when you next return. The Elephant Espress is on my list to try next time. If you are like my other half though and think cocktail is for cordial drinkers then never fear - the wine and beer list is for quoffers and swirlers alike. These guys take their booze seriously and I am definitely signing up for one of their monthly "tasting flight masterclasses" in the future.

This is by far, Adelaide's best kept secret right now. Small bars are popping all around town, but…read morethis one stands true to the whole hole-in-the-wall hidden bar concept. GENIUS. It is so refreshing. If you're not looking hard enough you would easily miss it. Walk in and it's like the prohibition era, from the grungy shelves to the dark, moody decor and booths to the sad music. It is easily one of the best themed cocktail bars in Adelaide. Drinks are fantastic. Some bars have expensive drinks for not much and they don't taste great. Not at Baddog, they are top notch and the barman does it right in front of you on the bar so you don't miss a thing. Brilliant. Best find of the year for me so far.

The waist coats, crystal glasses and twisted stainless steel and silver spoons all work to make this a top spot for a cocktail or cheeky beer. A maestro of the common and rare cocktails and a range of spirits you wont find in many bars Zack makes this bar. Sitting at the bar is mandatory for the first drink in my opinion then sneak off to the lux booths for quiet and intimate drinks. Its dark, has very cool décor and edgy clean bathrooms. Bad Dog Bar doesn't have tvs, doesn't have pokies and doesn't have tap beer and for goodness sakes never order an apple-tini :) and that's the way we like it. Top Tip: order the pickleback - rye bourbon shot followed by some freshly made pickle juice. The SMoking Joint cocktail is also a fav!

Do you like a pub that's not too OTT? The Hyde Park Tavern - funnily enough in Hyde Park - is a…read more'mature' pub. That's not to say its old or dated, in fact it's pretty up to date and modern but its not full of teeny boppers. Put it this way, if you're over 30, you're not going to feel out of place in this pub. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. On their menu, I like the Warm Chicken Salad with pumpkin, pear, feta and fig balsamic and they do a good Chicken Schnitzel. Prices for mains are average at around $20 for pasta to $28 for a steak. Wines are around $30 a bottle but you can go high end with wine and spend $90 on a Rockford Basket Press Shiraz or $95 on a Penfolds St Henri Shiraz if you're cashed up. I like the fact that most of the restaurant menu is also available in the bar area if you're keen for something more casual. There are pokies but they're far enough removed from both the bar and restaurant to not annoy those who've come in for a drink or a meal. In fact most of the time you're not even aware they are there. If you're looking for somewhere to hold a function, there's an upstairs area that can cater for up to 120 people. All in all the HPT is a good pub. It's a pub pub if you know what I mean.

Basically it is one of those suburban pubs in one of the classier areas of Adelaide, and it certainly does show it. Like most suburban pubs they have a bistro and hidden around the back a room full of pokie machines. They don't really have anything in the way of a beer garden, just a small area to the side where all of the smokers congregate (though it does have a couple of tables and you will find people eating out here). There offering on tap is okay, though it mostly includes imported beers (as well as the locals, though they did have a couple of craft beers available). It wasn't a bad place to sit down for a about fifteen minutes, but not one that I would be going out of my way to visit again.

This restaurant was not a good experience, their food took in total two hours between ordering and…read morethe arrival of the dishes. The food was also average, as many of h the meat tapas did not have much meat, but instead was mainly batter. The staff were very inconsiderate, and took away dishes still being eaten because they looked partially empty. In one of the restaurant's specialty tapas, the deep fried fish bites, the layer of batter was about 1 centimetre thick, leaving only about 5 millimeters of meat in the centre. Additionally, later when the food arrived, the manager of the restaurant said that we should have "pre-ordered" our food, while there was no option to do so while over the phone for booking. Additionally, the restaurant's dessert specialty, churros, also took over an hour from when we requested that they be delivered. The churros' texture was slightly hard to chew through, and the chocolate sauce provided was minimal and extremely sweet. Their specialty, paella, was extremely bad compared to other paella, as the rice was extremely wet, contradictory to the conventional state of paella. The portions of the food were slightly below reasonable for the price paid, especially for the mains, as the prices for their special "feed me" were 28.50 per person, much above the price usually paid for this quality of food. In conclusion, the food at this restaurant was very much under expectations, the price was not reasonable, and the service was terrible. Do not go to this restaurant.

I have high expectations for my tapas and some of the dishes were lacking that punch you get from a great tapas dish. We ordered 6 between the 2 of us and they all came out at the same time so half of them were cold by the time we got to eat them. We ended the night on some churros and they were to die for! Crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

This is my special night out or even not so special night out starting point. The cocktails here are truly unique and now having collectively tried quite a few with partner and friends I can't find fault. (My personal favourite is the Violet Champagne Cocktail.) The setting is luxuriously decadent and seductive, the cocktails seduce even more and the alcoholic ambience is stupendous. A Sydney friend makes this her only must do whenever in Adelaide. Not that us Radelaideans need to compare ourselves in anyway - do we? I can't rave much more except to hint that whether it's Valentine's day, Birthday, Anniversary, Chinese New Year, Haven't Seen Old Friend's For Ages or you've just had a shitty week at work make a beeline for The Collins. Your efforts will be rewarded and the world will look beautiful again.
