I have to say that despite all the rage on Yelp and other websites for gaucho, it was just okay. I…read moregot a 100 day age stake and it was pretty thin. It was cooked medium but there wasn't any flavor in it. They also didn't sear it very well so it really didn't taste that great. They oversalted it with sea salt crystals. The only redeeming thing was that the french fries came out super hot and extra crispy. I'd say the french fries were better than the steak. I don't think I'd come here again because it is pretty pricey for what you get and the steak. I could cook a better steak at home.

After having several people recommend this place to us during our Australian holiday, we decided to check it out. Since it was a Saturday we called ahead for a reservation-we were only calling about an hour ahead but were able to get a table outside. It had been 100 degrees (40 Celsius) for a couple of days so no one wanted the outside tables but luckily for us the weather changed and the temp was a mild 79 at dinner time. As others have said, this place is about meat so that's what we had. My wife and I split the porterhouse and while it was a bit under our requested medium temperature, it was a wonderfully flavored steak and just enough for the two of us. It is served cut off the bone and sliced which makes it very easy for sharing. We also shared a pear salad which surprisingly was served at the same time as the main dish (which, as we looked around seemed to be how it works). The two others in the group each had a filet (or as they put it "fillet" - pronounced " fill-it"). They actually have two different ones on the menu and the main differences are the size (in grams of course) and marbling (Scotch Fillet is the less lean, more marbled steak). The other thing American diners will notice is the size and shape-about an inch think and round like a small pancake. Nonetheless, these steaks were also quite tasty. You can order extra sauces for the steaks but we chose not to and we're happy with that choice. The dishes are served with roasted potatoes and they also have a decent wine list featuring several nice choices from the surrounding Wine regions. Recommended.

Fast forward 30 years and its a little quieter, but menu is much the same and the decor is almost back in vogue again! That might sound like a criticism but in fact that is the E&C's strength - no nonsense steaks, schnitzels, seafood, a good salad bar, and a reasonable wine list, not to mention bar prices for drinks. We ate on a Friday lunchtime and from list of rump, sirloin, t-bone, porterhouse, rib-eye and eye-fillet steak, we ordered the Filet Mignon (yep another blast from the past - that's fillet steak wrapped in bacon). It came cooked to order and was a 300gm portion that was 3cm thick and full of flavour. Coupled with the hot vegetables or salad bar and a bottle of Mitchell Peppertree Shiraz, it was a simple but enjoyable meal. You order at the counter and service was attentive and friendly. If you are wanting a steak fix, definitely a low key alternative to the more trendy, and expensive steak houses in town.

The Bistro is much more upmarket, but the prices are expensive if you are looking for a standard meal, but the steak menu here are fantastic. If you need some extra luck, there are loads of elephant statues here, and they all have their trunks up. It's all about the vibe.

It is so refreshing. If you're not looking hard enough you would easily miss it. Walk in and it's like the prohibition era, from the grungy shelves to the dark, moody decor and booths to the sad music. It is easily one of the best themed cocktail bars in Adelaide. Drinks are fantastic. Some bars have expensive drinks for not much and they don't taste great. Not at Baddog, they are top notch and the barman does it right in front of you on the bar so you don't miss a thing. Brilliant. Best find of the year for me so far.

The waist coats, crystal glasses and twisted stainless steel and silver spoons all work to make this a top spot for a cocktail or cheeky beer. A maestro of the common and rare cocktails and a range of spirits you wont find in many bars Zack makes this bar. Sitting at the bar is mandatory for the first drink in my opinion then sneak off to the lux booths for quiet and intimate drinks. Its dark, has very cool décor and edgy clean bathrooms. Bad Dog Bar doesn't have tvs, doesn't have pokies and doesn't have tap beer and for goodness sakes never order an apple-tini :) and that's the way we like it. Top Tip: order the pickleback - rye bourbon shot followed by some freshly made pickle juice. The SMoking Joint cocktail is also a fav!
