An amazing lunch stop as a special lunch menu is on offer. The process of dry aged beef provides an excellent culinary experience. This I an excellent place to bring children. The children's menu comes as part of a small booklet which also contains a story which includes pictures to be coloured in with the pencils also provided in a cylinder. These proved a great hit with our children. And certainly maintained their interest while waiting for the meal to arrive. My friend and I had both selected the lunch time steak. We were delighted with the extensive salad bar which contained an unimaginable variety of accompaniments to compliment steak. Our experience was delightful and we are eager to return.

Okay - I admit it Hereford Beefstouw is a chain Restaurant - albeit a very expensive and charming Danish one. This concept has not previously been seen in Adelaide and for it's originality it deserves to be applauded. I think there are 16 restaurants in the chain, throughout Denmark, Sweden, and now Adelaide! The fit out is nothing short of phenomenal, the building on Hutt St is beautiful and everything about it exudes charm and class. I am surprised firstly by the salad bar in the middle of the restaurant and then by the quality and interest of the winelist. It seems picked by a South Australian with a good knowledge of international wine, rather than the other way around. That's exactly it.. it becomes evident that Hereford has an emphasis on local quality South Australian produce, how Scandinavian! The ordering system is different and the salad bar strange for a pricey restaurant in Australia, but the overall experience here is culturally different to our own and for that I salute it. This restaurant is for people who love meat and the novelty of the place dictates that it is not for those who are inflexible in their approach to dining out! The napkins hanging from the hooks on the table are another cute addition. This place is definately worth a try, for those with the coin to do so.

A Steak at A Hereford Beefstouw - Requested Medium, got Rare

** Word of warning ** They WILL reheat your meal if it is undercooked and re-serve it to you thinking you are none the wiser. Now, this is by no means my final review of this place as I will generally give places a second chance, I understand occasionally places have off nights. They shouldn't but they do... We went to A Hereford Beefstouw for a birthday, for a bit of dinner. Nothing too drastic, just 7 of us there. 6 of us ordered entrees, the Salmon was apparently amazing, it looked good but I had the Salt & Pepper squid. The S&P squid was delicious, cooked perfectly, not too much S&P and the highlight of MY meal. Another diner at our table had the scrappy ends of the Squid and they were all cooked for the same amount of time, meaning the smaller pieces came out rubbery and over cooked. I ordered a steak of which is definitely over priced, but this is obviously the clientele they are targeting for their market, people who want other people to cook a steak for them then charge them a lot for it. So I ordered, my steak to be cooked medium... 45 minutes later, the rarest steak I have even been expected to eat (bar the Steak Florentine in Tuscany) lands in front of me. Normally I would not send it back and I would just eat around the uncooked part and leave the rest on the plate, but this was literally seared and brought out so there was no much there for me to eat. It was sent back; and in some strike of fortune it returned not long later (5 or so minutes), cooked evenly and steaming hot... Like I don't know it was just shoved in the microwave and stuck back in front of me. I know for sure it was not a new piece of steak, because firstly you can't cook a steak that fast, and secondly I could still see where I had cut the steak in the middle to check how it was cooked (as their menu suggests doing). Last time I checked, once a meal had left the kitchen, you were not allowed to recook it and double serve it... As we were ready to leave, we got offered a free coffee... Now after that poor experience I did not want to stick around any longer, so we declined and left. In order for them to get people back in the door so to speak (we sat outside), they should have offered me some kind of discount or freebie if I was to return (which would also mean I have to bring more people back to spend more money there). That is neither here nor there. Now all that they have achieved is a bad review.

I've heard people say that they never change their menu - well, for one, that's not true - there's always seasonal specials floating around - but two, the core menu doesn't need to change. Perfect steak - aged on the premises. Seriously, this doesn't need mucking around with. They do steak so well they're the standard I gauge EVERY other steak I have by. It IS a little formal - you'll be greeted at the bar, and the expectation is you'll settle down for an aperitif before being seated. There's invariably a little dip to nibble on, too. A small serve of the house speciality meatballs will help you through the choices on the menu - and the BEST steak on the day will be recommended. There are some alternatives for non cow lovers, but really Cork & Cleaver is ALL about the best beef in town. I'm normally a mushroom sauce kind of person, but here, go the bernaise, it is an incredible accompaniement to the perfect steak you'll receive - the plate of sauteed mushrooms as a side is pretty top notch too. Desserts are done with just as much skill as the meat - the personal attention of your waiter or waitress will ensure your dining experience is second to none. As a devout foodie, this is exactly how I think heaven will be.

Meat! This restaurant embraces the wise and timeless words…read more"You can't make friends with salad!". The Glenelg BBQ Inn is the origin and home of the Man Meat Night. Approximately once a month myself and some of the lads (there are about 15 regulars now) get together for an onslaught of meat. Needless to say the fairer sex is not permitted due to the manliness required to consume as much meat as we do. My nickname is 'The Surgeon' on account of my preference to cutting all of the fat off before eating. The go is, at the BBQ Inn one must order a minimum of the Mixed Grill which is a porterhouse, lamb shashlik, 3 chevapchichis, a big-ass sausage and some token onion, tomato and potato salad. Any other order must be approved by the Man Meat Members present. Just to paint an even more 'enlightening' picture, mid meal 'dumps' are not uncommon. The first time this wondrous occasion occurred it was my two mates (brothers) and myself. At one point I began to turn white and the waitress was incredibly concerned with my well being. This was my first experience of the 'Meat Sweats', and certainly has not been my last! Anyplace that can give birth to something as amazing as Man Meat Nights has got to be sweet as, and the BBQ Inn is most certainly that! I have noticed the quality of meat has dropped a little in the last few years, but I tend to take a LOOOOONG time to eat my half cow, so if gets a little cold and tough! By the way....if I have inspired you to organise your own Man Meat Group remember that the aftermath is often unpleasant. I'll leave it at that!

Everytime I'm in Adelaide I always try to make at least one visit. First thing you see when you step inside is the bbq's and meat cabinet. Everything is freshly prepared while you wait. Go for the mixed grill as you get a decent selection of meats. You have to get at least one or of chevapchichis as they are amazing. The plates usually come with salad sides and the potato salad is very good. Well worth a visit whenever in the Glenelg area. Haven't had any problems with it but make a reservation just to be sure. Bring your appetite. Service is good and prices are very good.
