    charcuterie
    Eli G.

Meat meat meat, very paleo friendly. This spot was surprisingly full on a weekday night, but we were able to snag a table outside without a reservation. To keep things light, we went with the charcuterie board and a giant smoldering pit of meat over fire. First up was the meat plate; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gauchos-adelaide#Zatb5CSICDsEIrFfq_2AFw Packed full of bresaola, osso collo, guanciale, spicy chorizo and pickled ox tongue, it was all lovely, especially the tongue. Next was the parrillada de carne ($60pp) that came with a mixed grill of char-grilled chorizo sausage, lamb chops, free range goat, mesquite smoked turkey drumstick, pork belly, skewers of dry aged beef, black pudding, kidneys and sweetbreads, garnished with lemon wedges, extra virgin olive oil and fresh herbs. It was a beast and this picture does not do its enormity justice; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gauchos-adelaide#MPWLugKxQD72f6j_ah1q1A It really was huge and mostly very good. The kidneys and sweetbreads were overcooked and on the organy side, but almost all the rest of the meat was excellent. We ordered for two people but it could have easily fed four normal eaters. Fun spot, I wouldn't mind going back.

Normally this place would be way out of my price range. However, about a year after returning from Argentina, the cravings for chimmi churri and huge chunks of beef became so overwhelming that I had to break the budget and invest my life savings into a meal at Gaucho's. Whilst I am no gastronomer, my experience in Argentina has at least equipt me with sufficient knowledge to say that that Gaucho's serves perfect and authentic Argentinian cuisine. My Steak (Bife de Chorizo) was massive and cooked to perfection and there was home made chimmi churri upon the table. Accordingly, my desires were satiated, albeit at a fair portion of the price of a flight back to Argentina. Really this place is suited to swanky old boys wearing suits. This is fine dining, and there is a serious wine list. In addition to huge chunks of beef there is a broad range of Argentinian cuisine available on the menu, including a broad range of seafood.

Where do I start? This place is serious Argentinian fine dining. My family and I have always celebrated each important event here (graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, the time my kid brother got a job). The food here is amazing. My personal favourites would have to be the king prawns, porterhouse, and wagyu beef. Although, the last time I came here I ordered one of their specials: pork belly. It was mouth-watering, and so were the sides of salad and mashed potatoes. The last time I ate here it was my parents' wedding anniversary, and I spoke to one of the staff about surprising them with a dessert and candles. The staff were very helpful, offering to stick sparklers in my chosen dessert, the Don Pedro - Tia Maria with vanilla bean icecream, callebaut hazelnut chocolate and pistachio tuille. Delicious! However, get ready to spend like there's no tomorrow. This time around it was my turn to shout, and for the next week I was living off bread and water.

Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. These steaks don't fuck around. If you're serious about meat, then Gauchos just might be your holy grail. Gaucho's has long been one of my favourite establishments, purely for the reason that it doesn't compromise. Sure, you could die of a coronary heart attack halfway through chewing your way to victory, but you just have to give the people what they want. There's no better place to get a slab of high-grade beef, Argentinian style. The chimmi churri sauce will blow your socks off - I can't eat a thing at Gaucho's anymore without drowning my meal in the stuff. Let me just give this quick disclaimer - though the decor is wonderful, and the dimmed lights provides great ambience, this isn't the kind of place you'd want to go for a first date. The amount of juicy beef and garlic on your plate won't be kind later on in the evening when things get hot and heavy. If you have the balls to try anything above a 250g steak, I salute you. But you better loosen that belt buckle, because chances are your waistline won't be too happy with all of that carnivorous deliciousness you just devoured. Also, make sure you book in advance, as the restaurant can get booked out for consecutive days.

If a restaurant is good enough for the Ex - prime minister to eat at, it must be absolutely phenomenal and Gaucho definitely lived up to that expectation! Immediately as we walked through the door, we were greeted immediately by a waiter, all of them dressed extremely sharp. We were lead to the back of the restaurant to a private area, where we were seated next to the table of the man the himself, Tony Abbott. Which was a pleasant surprise. Onto the food, though the wait for long, it was totally worth it as the steaks were cooked to perfection. Each slice into the steak released its oozing liquid flavours, absolutely amazing! I would have to say its the best steak I ever had in Adelaide. The mushroom sauce glazed the steak in a way that brought out the true flavours of the steak. The chips that came with the steaks were also delicious being proper clean cut potato chips. Though I wis that there were more servings of chips as each person didn't get their own serves but it was all placed into a large bowl to share. Overall the experience was amazing, and would definitely comeback again for a special occasion. Though the total cost of the bill was equivalent to the new iPhone.

Best black pudding and chunky chips. Black bean pasties were good.

Always a great place, Gaucho's is now even better! They've always served late all year around and still do. From large glasses to decent steak knives, you feel like you're in South America! Great oysters, blood pudding and of course steak. Great service too.

Thumbs up to the head waiter who knows his stuff and has some special wines both on and off the list. This is a steakhouse, and their bread and butter are big t bones and upmarket wagyu sliced fillets. As a vegetarian, there is one entree, one main and sides on the menu, but chef can whip up something special and the offer was made to me but I was there as a blogger event with set menu this time. The pumpkin dish was excellent and I ate a heap of that. The house made chimchurri sauce is now being bottled by Beerenberg and is available in IGA's and Foodlands so you can make steak and oysters like Gaucho's at home. Enough to satisfy a vego, but really a meat lovers paradise

A small establishment it's best to book ahead unless you want to sit outside or come in early. Staff are attentive, helpful and chatty and the wine list is excellent with a decent beer selection. Louca's isn't too pricey compared to other eateries and the platters are decadent. The seafood here isn't fancy, its just great produce cooked simply in a nice setting. There are some imported barra's and other fish on the menu but I'd stick with what you know is spectacular in your own back yard. What was nice though is that you could go from a simple "fish and chips" up to a grilled atlantic salmon or seafood platter for 2 with oysters etc. We dined on prawns, salt and pepper squid, mussels and kingfish. The prawns were a bit tough but had a nice charcoal grilled flavour and the salt and pepper squid came in huge slices that were very well seasoned and succulent. The highlight of the menu was the tomato broth mussels. A huge pot came out and we proceeded to suck all the juices and meat from each well cooked shell. All meals were perfect for sharing and it was all complemented well by a simple SA wine list. The service was nice, but a little busy at the time and overall we were impressed with the cost of our meal for the quality of the dishes - good seafood ain't cheap people! On a side note, I don't quite understand why all seafood restaurants look the same - white tiles, white tables, white kitchen/bar? As Neale Whittaker from The Block would put it - "it feels 90s and dated." I look forward to the day when someone in Adelaide does it a little differently.
