I actually don't know where to start? The Sneaky Pickle has graced the streets of Adelaide with its damn fine true American cuisine for a few years now. Every time I see their truck out, I get all high school girl excited. There is something about a business like this. I think what really captures me is when you meet a owner that is just so passionate about what they do. There is so much thought, attention to detail and expertise here. From cooking methods to their business style. It just reflects how cool they are as individuals, and something I really want to support and share. Oh yeah, their food is beyond good as well! After counting down the hours until this restaurant opened it's doors, we finally made it inside the restaurant. It's dark, comfy and just so much fun! There are all sorts of cool critters and artistic elements. Just go see it for yourself. I should point out, it features some booths too, so great for groups. I had the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. Oh yeah baby! Crispy, tasty, juicy chicken which is cut through with come fresh slaw. You can order this with fries on the side, but we opted for cheesy fries! So glad we did! These fries were covered in home made cheese sauce and crumbled cheesy bits, I kind of just wanted to put my face into the bowl and chew. Oh, I also had a bite or two of the Cheese Steak Philly. Well, well, well... God in sandwich form? But beware, this is a hefty meal. Be prepared to feel overwhelmed with amazing flavour and cheesy goodness. It is definitely not for the faint hearted or those watching the their waistline. It is amazing though and I really do recommend trying it. Ok, so let's just say this, get down there now before you have to wait in a line. This place is going get popular real fast. Bring your friends, family and neighbours. What can I say, My favourite Adelaide Food Truck is now a really truly restaurant. Made it here on Day One of the opening. They've done a GREAT job moving from the road to Bricks and Mortar. Serving some of the best American BBQ you can get in Adelaide. EAT HERE if you love tasty BBQ. Everyting is done in house. from the Pulled Pork or the Fried Chicken Sandwiches to the Mac N Cheese Bites and Cheese Fries, everything is so damn tasty Yes they cater for Gluten free by offering "NAKED Sandwiches" and there's a Vego option too. The owners are so dedicated to bringing us all the best they can AND they have succeeded. Don't go there expecting the same thing every day, every month. soon they'll be chopping and changing the Menu, adding things like Kocher Pastrami and Shrimp Po Boys. the list goes on. (they have so many ideas) If you love tasty food (especially us meat lovers) do yourself a favour and get yourself and your mates down here to feed your faces. read more

I must admit, I hadn't given sneaky pickle the attention they deserved when they were just a food truck. I think I may have visited them once or twice after a few drinks on a Saturday night. After visiting their brick'n'mortar, I'm kicking myself for not frequenting their food truck more. Those fried mac and cheese cubes are insanely good... I can't believe I had never eaten them before. I thought this place only did pickles! How wrong I was. The owner Jeff is also a total champion and has a great philosophy on food. Ask him about Pastrami... he'll tell you a thing or two. Jeff and his wife have travelled the USA in search of traditional southern and regional recipes and has done a ton of reading a researching. Jeff also has imported a couple of Meadow Creek smokers from Amish country - New Holland, Pennsylvania USA. I felt like I was Anothony Bordain in one of those no reservations episodes when I was talking to Jeff (and when I ate the "Brisket Philly Cheesesteak" sandwich - which was awesome). Jeff also takes time to explain the way he cooks, why he does what he does and why he loves his customers. This place runs on wood smoke, passion, hard work and word of mouth. The worst experience ever !! I had dinner a few days ago there with my family. When I approached the counter, I ordered two cheeseburgers for my kids and two of the cowboy feasts to share among four adults (plus some buffalo wings and drinks for all). The lady taking the order demanded that we had to order at least four cowboy feasts. I said we were not that hungry but in case we wanted more we would order more. She said that it was not how the place worked and called a guy (manager?/ the guy with the beard) who in a very rude manner said: -have you ever been to a bbq place to the US?. If you have you should know that the servings are bigger per person!- I said that was not the case and that I would stick to what I wanted. As the food arrived, I approached the guy politely to complain about the very rude behaviour. He kept his attitude arguing that people there need to order as per their expectations. Da Pickle is epic. Decor, hosts, booths, beers from the states (hell yeah PBR), and desserts to die for - cherry pie! But hey that's not what you come here for, no that's the barbecue. Low and slow brisket, ribs, links, tri tip, burgers and specials like the chicken fajitas! It's traditional and perfect. If you don't love good ole Texas style barbecue then this isn't your place but if you love epically awesome tasting smoked goodies and great side like the brisket beans and Mac n cheese(s) then get here. Kid friendly - my three lil ones love visiting and checking out the cool smokers, wife loves the specials and I can't go past the brisket. I've eaten here with a group of 15 and they accommodated during a busy service night as well. So you can eat here solo or as a group. Oh how I love Sneaky Pickle! Mac n Cheese bites, Battered Pickles, Brisket Sandwiches... yum! Taste is never an issue here. After having a food truck for so long the guys have finally opened up a store. Food quality is the same as the truck and also like the truck they are doing a rotating menu (if you're lucky enough to go on a night when they've got the Beef Po'Boy or the Double Pickle Mac Cheeseburger be sure to order them). Drink menu needs work though. There was only one drink (root beer) that didn't contain alcohol or caffeine (being pregnant/breastfeeding I can't have either) and it tasted like toothpaste. Putting a few regular drinks (lemonade etc.) On the menu would be greatly appreciated. That's only a small criticism though. Everything else, including service, was great. Oh and be sure to check out Tinkle Town while you're there. My daughter thought it was great. Edit: very happy to see they've expanded the drink menu now, including a couple softdrinks and adding the always amazing Pink Lemonade! read more

The stealthy burger champ. I had tried Sneaky Pickle food for the first time at a food truck gathering, but had been putting off going to the restaurant due to its inconvenient location and fear that the food might not be as good as the food truck. I am now kicking myself that I haven't been there every single weekend of my life. We had to line up and wait about 15 minutes for a table which was both a bad and a good impression. Bad because we had to wait; good because there was obviously a line up for a reason. I ordered a hard lemonade, Classic American burger and some jalapeño poppers. Honestly, could not fault anything. Best jalapeño poppers I have ever eaten. Hard lemonade was amazingly fresh and distinctively homemade. Best way I can describe the burger: It's what a whopper should taste like. All the same basic ingredients that make up a Hungry Jacks whopper, except made with love, care, fresh ingredients and an amazing team of chefs. It really took me back to the first time I ever ate a whopper as a kid and I have never had a connection that strongly with a burger before. Sneaky Pickle is in an inconvenient location, parking is difficult and you may have to line up to get your food, but I promise you it is definitely worth your time and effort. With its unique style, unbelievable food and friendly staff, it's hard to find any fault in this sly American style restaurant. read more

Diners, you may think I like doing reviews where I write about all the things I didn't like but in fact I loathe them and yet I would be disingenuous if I wrote anything but what I'm about to write about The Sneaky Pickle. This place came with a HUGE recommendation from a previously trusted source so hubby and I were quite eager to try it out. It's location on Goodwood Rd is a little difficult to get to and the frontage is quite unappealing. We didn't even know if they were open! From the outside, we couldn't hear or see anything going on inside. When we finally did get inside I felt a little better. It seemed like a pretty cool place - American BBQ is their style. There were lots of decorations on the wall, heavy wood furniture, hipster looking waiters and it was dark. I mean really dark! There was music playing that ranged from Country and Western to Sixties lounge jazz. There's lots of huge wooden benches/booths and hubby and I sat in one. A few minutes later the bearded waiter came and squashed in alongside us so he could explain how the menu works. So they've got BBQ meats on the top of the menu. You pick the meats and quantity you want. That's what they want you to do, and then you pick your sides. You do have a couple of options for sandwiches but they really want you to pick the meats and sides. We didn't have the Chicken thighs or Bourbon wings options on the menu we were given. I don't have a picture of the drinks menu but they mainly have American Beers and soda's here. So I went and ordered one each of the BBQ meats, a side of Texas Beans (+bacon + chili) and a serve of Bread Rolls. Remember when places would just serve you bread?? The menu says that the BBQ meats come with House pickles and BBQ sauce. Well my dear diners, we got a tiny camp platter for $39. My food blogging website (see profile for link) has pictures "All BBQ meats come with House pickles and BBQ sauce." but what we got was a teaspoonful of house pickles in one corner of our tray. Sneaky Pickle indeed!!! The bread rolls were tiny. One bite and they were gone. I mostly stuck to the beans because I'm usually not a big meat eater and nothing there looked appealing to me. The Brisket was ok but it had huge gobs of fat in it. The pulled pork was ok. Hubby really liked the rib but he wasn't sure of the value for money seeing as one rib was $7. ONE. Hubby didn't like the sausage at all. It had a very smoky taste and seemed a bit gritty as well. I had a little of it but wouldn't have been able to eat a whole one. I'm not sure what the herb or spice was in there. I had to wonder why they kept the room so dark. The windows were furnished with heavy black curtains. Is it so you can pretend to be whisked away to Texas or so that you don't see how small the serve is you're getting? I really didn't like those camp style plates and trays they were using either. And they brought us that platter of food to share, but no side plates so we could actually eat our food in front of us instead of having to reach for the centre of the table and hope we didn't drop any. The food didn't take long to be gone, not because we loved it, but because there wasn't much there.... So we left poorer and still hungry... But it was ok, we stopped in at a Maccas on the way home and filled up with a few little naughty things for a fraction of the money we'd spent at the Sneaky Pickle... We remembered the quote "Everything is bigger in Texas" but then were reminded that we were actually not in Texas and it all made sense... This place seems to have a bit of a cult following so please don't just take my word for it. If you do go though, be prepared .... read more

This review may make me look an ogre. I don't get it. Overly-sweet-but-not-particularly-flavourful meat coupled with creamy slaw. Served with overly-salty fries, and cans of high-fructose corn syrup if you're so inclined*. The beer, I had the FOUNDERS ALE, was nice - with nuance unlike the food. But the food... if this is what American cuisine is like, I'll take Danish thanks. I felt woozy for it. I going to leave this in the each-to-their-own category, but will rate them honestly, as perhaps a warning to people like me. On the upside: the staff were lovely, and obviously passionate. The place, early in the night, is popular with inner south mums and dads and their free range kids. Take ear plugs if you're after an early dinner. *As some parents did and regretted on our visit. Sneaky Pickle's new restaurant is like a western saloon. Can imagine the saloon doors. It's quirky and odd but the food is just as good as the truck. We missed out on the mac and cheese bites which was so annoying. I had the pulled pork burger and a grape fanta for $19. Nothing beats grape fanta. The service was quick and staff welcoming. I'm so glad they have opened up a store! No more hunting down the truck to get that delicious deep fried American goodness. And in a former sex shop too. The inside is decked out with some really classic American bar/diner decor. Love the wooden booths. And the food? Even better from a kitchen. The Southern Fried Chicken sandwich was massive (albeit primed to explode) and the chicken was crispy and juicy. I had to come back and also try the Cuban, went really well the pulled pork and Sneaky Pickle Pickle. Great appetizers too like deep-fried pickles and Mac & Cheese is always a winner. They also have a great range of local and American Imported beers (craft and usual suspects). My main issue is that Sneaky Pickle has obviously gotten a lot more popular than expected; both visits I had to queue up for 10 minutes just to order, and as more people came in it got very crowded very fast. I think it might be time to look into table service or a second POS. But in the end it was well worth the wait. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

Hokay, you want your Gringo fix? You want to varnish your swagger with a bit of Americana? Your first test is to figure out how to sneak into this establishment by snaking around Goodwood Rd. It ain't easy folks. The menu is small which implies everything will be good. I went for the fried chicken sandwich. In a sea of cream and iceberg lettuce, chicken chunks danced. Fries were unfortunately not escorted by ketchup or mustard - this is where the Pickle draws the line and deprives you of your quintessential U.S. experience. Several beers from the U.S. are available, however many are about showmanship and not taste - although you don't want to be caught drinking a $10 PBR. The best way to describe this place would be - bland - easily forgettable. Will I return? I'm not in any rush... there are way better burgers and gringo dishes even in little Adelaide. read more

Friday evening and we don't know where to eat and I found out that Sneaky Pickles had opened a cafe relatively close to home. We started with Corn-encrusted Beef Balls and Salsa (very nice!), along with Fried Mozzarella Sticks for appetisers, followed by Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich for me and Pulled Pork Sandwich for the missus. If you have read some of my other posts, you would have seen I was on something of a pilgrimage to find the best American Ribs in SA. Watching Man vs Food as a boy (well a very old boy), I would see the look of delight on Adam Rich's chubby little face as he downed these wonderful looking American Ribs. I ventured forth into the city and surrounds to replicate the same look of delight on my own chubby face. After many visits to many fine establishments, my search dwindled over time as I realised that although we had some fine rib establishments there was nothing I could find that would match the real thing in the USA. I was wrong! I heard of the Sneaky Pickle and found that it was close by in Millswood. So we went to make a booking .. nope. You can only make a booking for six and over. So it would appear those of us that have few friends take pot luck in a lineup. We arrived after 6:00pm on Saturday. Parking is a bit of a pain, but we got there. Walking through the doors, we finally had our glimpse of the interior (as the windows all were heavy curtained). It was BUSY! There was already a lineup of eight groups of two before us and one group of eight that had not have the foresight to book. I thought this was going to take forever and we pondered leaving. Tip - DON'T LEAVE! We were advise by a waiter - who we will call from now on the Maitre D' - that we could get a drink at the bar. Heading to the bar I was greeted by a big hairy hipster who was as obliging as could be with our drinks. The Maitre D' was a phenomenon. He was everywhere at once. This guy was the Usain Bolt of customer service. From letting us know how long it would take to fitting groups of people tetris-like into the available positions, to taking and delivering orders, and then cleaning up - this guy did it all. Due to the hurricane-like nature of the Maitre D', we were seated in fairly short order, given a menu and asked to order at the bar. We were also told about something call "Burnt Ends" as a special of the day. We had already perused the menu while waiting and already knew we wanted ribs, but my partner wanted some sides and I really wanted to try the Burnt Ends. From the time we ordered to the time we got our food was less than ten minutes. I sampled some of my partner's sides. I won't bore you with the details because if you are reading this far you want to read about the meat! First the burnt ends. I was expecting something a little like the crunchy goodness you get at the bottom of your mum's roast dinners. You know, the stuff that falls into the pan and gets a little crunchy and gooey and tastes like heaven. I never thought anything could beat my old mum's roasts in this way .. but this was a SLAM DUNK! It wasn't crunchy at all, but it was the ends of the brisket slow cooked with a special sauce and it was magnificent. It was juicy and it fell apart even before it made it to your mouth. I couldn't believe it. This dish was just an add-on, like a soup of the day! It should be on the menu permanently! Then came the ribs. We ordered a kilo to share. We did this because generally we have found that the bones would make up a significant portion of any rib meal. Nope .. these rib bones were small and there was a lot of meat on them. In fact we only got through 9 of the 12 pieces that came out. The meat fell off the bone, and if you could have seen my face I think you would have sworn I was channeling just a little bit of Adam Rich. It was glorious, it was stupendous, it was exhilarating. I am finally sated. I have found my Nirvana and am content. If you are a connoisseur then this is the place to try. I don't think you will be disappointed. If I could give it six stars I would have! read more

Overdue review! Our whole family have been long term Sneaky Pickle food truck stalkers for years !! We are delighted to find that all our old faves have made it to the Diner without compromise. Delicious rotating menu of southern American goodies Fried pickles, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, PoBoys, Pulled Pork sliders, falling off the bone Ribs...& unbeatable brussel sprouts! ABSOLUTELY the BEST, AUTHENTIC BBQ outside of Texas - and as good as anything from home ( which is - yes - Texas). Juicy, tender melt in your mouth brisket, mouth watering charro beans, and honest to goodness sweet tea! Plus a variety of beers. Oh. And yeah they've got ribs, pulled pork, homemade sausage, and all the fixins. The nicest staff , great music - everyone can't help but have a good time. If you go to one place in Adelaide, make it the Sneaky Pickle! read more
