Dark red IPA Six String 6.6%

Oh yes, you had me at beer and whisky. A rising star in Adelaide's Bar Scene only a few weeks. It is very impressive to see the attention NOLA has received in such a short time. I think this is a good reflection of South Australians really supporting entrepreneurs who are trying to make it independently. Did you know that NOLA have crowd funded their beer tap system? Why? Well, what some of you might not know if you have not worked in hospitality is that most beer taps in pubs are installed with funding by large beer & beverage distribution corporations. When these corporations fund the taps, the venues usually sign a agreement that they are only to serve their beer. So a lot of venues cannot get mirco-brewed craft beers on the tap. That is why you will find a lot of places with craft beer in bottles. By NOLA seeking the help to fund the beer, they can then tap all the lovely craft beers from whom ever they wish to deal with. Great right? As for the beer here, check out the menu! It's great. There are a lot of local beers, interstate and even some special ones they have shipped from overseas. You can really see the potential to showcase some unique stuff here. Just as they are able to change the stock as often as they like. Very exciting. Onto the whiskey, there is a good selection here of American and Australian blends. Which fits in with the idea of it being a more of an American style bar. But, I like Scottish whisky's. Oh well... Still good. As for food, well you cannot go past fried chicken! Oh yes, it is tasty and crispy and juicy. Finger licking good! I also really loved the marlin tartare on house made sourdough crisps. The fish was really fresh and sweet and then paired with the spices on the crisps was just perfect with a beer. Great function space upstairs as well. Quite roomy and can be booked privately. I am a very big fan of this new addition to Adelaide. Well done boys!

Anyone who knows me, or has read my reviews would know that I'm partial to a drop or two of the malted beverages. I'm talking about beer. Give it me in pints or schooners, in a glass or a can, a bottle or a growler. I don't care how you give it me, just give it me. All Adelaide beer aficionados know the best places to find a classy beer in their neighbourhood. As a hills dweller, I'm lucky to have two great breweries not to far away and some good pubs with tasty crafties on tap. However, there's always some dirty smelly mass produced beer in there with the good stuff taking up precious tap real estate. This is because the big breweries subsidise the bars to have their beers in there; quite often front and centre. I don't like this. No sir, not one bit. So, while the Stag hotel has been given a paint job and had what looks like $100,000 worth of copper beer delivery equipment installed to pump filthy dirt beer into joe public's glass, another kind of bar has popped up around the corner. NOLA is a "New Orleans inspired" craft beer and whiskey bar. (Note the "e" is whiskey - this means bourbon, not scotch). The 16 beer taps have been crowdfunded through pozible donations, ensuring that the beers are all from small craft breweries and never locked in with bad contracts with big brewers. There is also a huge bottled beer list, and they do Louisiana cocktails and "Creole and Cajun soul food" (try the fried chicken - it's great) The highlight of NOLA for me though, is the beer. Behind the bar there is a blackboard with 1-16 list of taps. On my first visit I was greeted by SA favourites Pirate Life, Prancing Pony, Mismatch, Little Bang, Pikes and Lobethal Bierhaus; as well as some beers from NSW, Tasmania, USA and Denmark. On my return trip I found that all the taps had changed with SA breweries Clare Valley Brewing, Vale, Barossa Brewing, Little Bang, Brew Boys, Lobethal Bierhaus, Hills Cider Co and Micro Cider Co; as well as NSW, Vic, Scotland, NZ and Denmark beers again. All I can say is wow. It's like having a mini wheatsheaf hotel in the city. Amazing. I'll be back. It's great to see the beers constantly changing and no crap beer on the menu. Well done to everyone involved.

Brisket Po Boys and Chicken Wings

Been trying to get to NOLA for a while now based on friends reviews and what I've read myself and with an upcoming trip to New Orleans later this year I was excited to get a taste of what to expect from Louisiana style dining. Today was the second time I've been here in a month and loved it. The Po Boys are amazing and very generous in serving size, I have always gone for the brisket myself. Today we all shared a large serve of the chicken wings which were unbelievable, packed full of flavor and so so juicy. The drinks selection is extensive also with lots of beers on tap and a decent range of cocktails and wine also. Will keep on coming back here for sure to try more of the menu, a great place for a casual lunch and even better to soak up a nasty hangover such as today!! Great to see Adelaide getting involved in the food scene more and more and finally getting some quality places like NOLA

On a Friday night, it was busy and I found tables upstairs. It has a great view of Rundle Street and the vibe here is positive and friendly. It's difficult to find street parking along Rundle Street as it get's really busy so best to find a a good car park and it's easy to walk to Nola. The place is such a trendy and hipster place, it's a small place with booths and stools downstairs or there is more space upstairs with tables and stools. You can order meals and drinks either upstairs or downstairs. What we ordered: CROCODILE RIBS - succulent cajun spiced croc ribs. Looks like ribs, tastes like chicken but the meat looks like fish. Fried and battered, a bit salty. NOLA FRIED CHICKEN - boneless fried chicken with NOLA's sauce of the day. I've had these before and tasted juicy, these however had too much salt. Thumbs down! JAMBALAYA - EGGPLANT (V) spanish influenced dish, much like a paella these rich flavours are combined in rice PO'BOYS - Beef Brisket in a bread roll, lettuce, tomoto and pickles with fresh cut potato crisps. This was delicious, the beef brisket, the meat was shredded and soft, full of flavour, however the bread roll was stale and the potato crisps tasted slightly off. GUMBO - Chicken, Bacon and rabbit in Cajun based Gumbo with rich southern flavours. This was like a stew, very thick and tasty and rich with tomato flavours with vegetables. Thumbs up! BOURBON & APPLE - American Bourbon has an enounter with fresh apples to get juicy on some rocks. Sweet and delicious. Overall, I'll come back to this place, it's hip and trendy the beers, whiskey and cocktails are fantastic here.

I have to be honest here and admit that I generally don't check Yelp for recommendations of places to visit, however I do like to check through the recommendations every so often and as I was doing it while down this end of Adelaide I came across this place. As far as I am aware it must be quite new, but then again I haven't been in Adelaide since April so there are a lot of places here now that weren't here back then. However what caught my attention was that it was a craft beer bar, so it literally jumped on my list of places to check out, and I have to say that I am really glad that I did. They have a awesome selection of craft beer, but on top of that they have an absolutely huge range of whisky. Okay, I'm not much into whiskey, but if you are then this is definitely a place to go an check out.

Great place- long cedar bar means no lining up to order drinks

Loved this place!! Spent a Friday night here untill the wee hours- a perfect place to hang out with friends, nice moody lighting, great drinks list and the best part ALL NIGHT FRIED CHICKEN. Adelaide needs more places that allow you to eat and drink until late, and I think NOLA really fills this gap. Definitely becoming my local

Amazing flavour to the fried chicken accompanied by 5 different beers on a paddle. Great presentation !
Linda D.

Loved the atmosphere of this newly opened Adelaide bar. Presentation of the beer paddle looked amazing.. Even tho' not a beer drinker this was replaced with an interesting and enjoyable red wine . Presentation of the variety of tapas style small plates was fantastic and the mix of flavors stimulated the palate.

Also tasting menu includes everything for $39

The friendly staff helped us choose an ale from the extensive list mounted on the wall. We chose an ESB called 'the dogs bollocks' and a Tasmanian pale which was infused with grapefruit. Both were very nice. The reason we came was to try the fried chicken and oh boy, did they deliver. This is the best fried chicken i have ever had outside of America! It was so crispy and just on the right side of burnt so you get that lovely umami taste. Served with a thin spicy sauce. Which was just the right amount of heat. One comment - as the chilli sauce was thin, i think it might be better served hot. But that it a small point. Strangely they didn't serve any hot chips!? I loved the fried chicken, but i really needed some sort of carb for it to satisfy me. I was full, but not a lasting full (if you know what i mean). I feel as though this was marketed as a bar snack, so that would be the reasoning behind it. If you are American - come and meet your match. If you love fried chicken - prepare yourself.

Hellllooooooo..... Brklyn! A new kid on the block has set up shop (or you could call it three)…read moresitting above Rundle Street. This bar is really doing something different. Set to feel like a side street in a town, you will notice a subway chair on entry and three small stores. First up a deli prepping cured meat awesomeness, next up a barber and finally a recording studio. And yes, there is a barber set up on Friday night to get a cut while you enjoy a few drinks. It is quite well set up and really does create a different feeling in a bar. You are stepping off Rundle Street onto another street upstairs. In the middle you will find a long bar and a range of booths. Bottles of spirits line the back and four taps for brews. The cocktail menu has some twists to old favourites. I went for The Dreamer as I am a whisky girl. It was a good cocktail, a little acidic and fresh. It was a good cocktail, but nothing that really stands out in a crowd for $20. Next time I will order the Old Fashioned which had some coconut in it from memory. Interesting. What I really like about this bar is the aesthetics. It's almost trying to create an experience that no one else is doing with the shop fronts. I think it's quite clever. The owner here is a real sweetheart and really trying to do something different. Give it a few months and I think that this bar will be pumping! Well done for effort and looking forward to see this bar grow.

We almost walked past it, it is only an entrance door and hidden between two eateries. Up the stairs you face a subway like waiting room and a 'secret' door. Heading through you pass a sandwich bar, barber and private DJ room. We moved on straight to the bar and were greeted by friendly staff and were quick to seat us at the bar, although there was plenty of seating as it was only around 7pm. The bartender knew his stuff and quickly made me 'Pistols at Dawn' a smashing mix of chipotle fused tequila with capsicum, lime and cucumber. It was absolutely amazing and so tasty. We got to talking to the bar staff and they really knew their stuff, making my partner a cocktail off the menu. The ambience was great, music was loudish but set the scene for the NYC style bar. The seats close to the windows offered some great people watching opportunities. The menu looked great, mainly snack food but offering NYC style pastrami sandwiches, they sounded so good-why did we just have dinner!? Definitely worth putting on your cocktail list - 5 stars for service and knowledge a 5 stars for taste and accuracy. Wish I could critique the food - maybe next time. This is a bar definitely on my plus list. This reminds me of the cool funky bars you get in London or even definitely NY and I would be heading back soon for sure.

We decided to have a couple of quiet drinks and to splurge on a cocktail. I chose the Snickers cocktail which was delish!! It cost about $16 but it was huge. There's a good selection of craft beer and cocktails also - I had the snickers one which was amazingly delicious. We also tried some wedges which were perfect and crispy. I found the staff really helpful and friendly (although maybe it was because we were mainly served by a bearded bartender and had an equally bearded friend with us!) and they cleared our empty glasses really quickly which was good as we had limited space on our table. My only complaint was that the live music on the night was way too loud, it was much louder than the normal music playing over the speakers and forced us to yell at eachother to have a conversation. Note: They also accept paywave and credit on bar.

This was my first experience trying moonshine, funnily enough it doesn't come in those stereotypical hillbilly ceramic jugs and there are actually quite a few varieties. I spent a few minutes picking different jars off the shelf to have a smell and get a bit of a story for each one, the staff are definitely experts. The flavoured moonshines go well with soda water, but if you want something a bit more creative, Mississippi Moon offers a few mixed moonshine cocktails including my new favourite; Ole Smoky Apple Pie moonshine, apple juice and cinnamon. Bar staff are the friendliest you'll meet on a Friday night on the west end, even had a few games of UNO with some other punters over the bar. Decor has a cosy, modern and 'Southern' vibe, will probably seat around 20 people at a guess. Definitely a highlight of a night in town, will hopefully get another chance to Mississippi Moon.

The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about all of the drinks on offer and make a point of telling you about what you are drinking, what it tastes like, or giving you recommendations. There are also only 4 food items on the menu - Coriole Olives, Pickels and 2 charcuterie boards made from The Charcuterie (a spin off from Lucia's Deli in the Central Market). We had the duck pate which doesn't sound or look that appetising but is actually not a paste but more of a shredded duck in pork belly fat goodness. The proscuitto platter again only came with bread and pickles but it didn't need anything else because of the quality of meat - it was a young cut of meat so not too typically proscuitto salty, very thinly sliced but still not bland. Now I have to warn all those typical Adelaidians our there who "refuse to line up." At 7pm on a Friday the line up was about 8 persons deep but we were inside within 20 minutes. Because this isn't a bar for spending hours and hours at people move in and out pretty quickly. So suck it up princess because CLT is worth the wait.
