Plan B, Penny University here we come! With walking in to find the place super small but still managing to steal two seats, yay! After browsing at the menu for a good 10 minutes, still undecided walking up to the counter and grabbing the 'today's special', scrambled eggs with feta on thick toast. Now, I'm more of a 'poached eggs' person but I thought you know what different day, different meal? This meal didn't take long at all to prepare with what a plus for a hungry customer. That eggs and the feta worked well together, was a filling meal as well. Will defiantly need to explore more of Penny University, as there window sandwiches and salad look delicious and freshly made.

Penny University is one of my favourite spots in/off Rundle Street for breakfast, lunch and coffee. Judging by the amount of customers the baristas know on a first-name basis, others must feel the same! The hotspot serves two main purposes. There is bar/communal bench seating for around a dozen people who want to take their time, but there is also a quick takeaway window for suits in a hurry. I've only ever eaten from Penny University whilst seated inside as I love the atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the music is always a good suprise (last time it was late 90s/early 00s RnB, the previous time it was old rock anthems) and they've nailed the relaxed Rundle Street vibe. Over the multitude of times I've been to Penny's, I've had the luxury of trying many different things. Recently, fakès has been made a winter addition to the everchanging menu. For those who haven't had this delicacy before, fakès is a Greek soup consisting mostly of lentils. It's surprising filling and very delicious! Previously, I've also eaten the baked eggs, tomato sugo and pork sausage (highly, highly recommend), French toast with rhubarb and ricotta and a variety of the salads from the front takeaway window. Of the drinks offered, their coffee is faaaantastic. I also recommend their dirty chai/chai buzz (chai latte with a shot of espresso) and the iced coffees are to die for! There are a lot of small lunchy brunchy places popping up around Rundle Street and Ebenezer Place, but Penny's is my favourite. The service is fantastic, the food is so good (both in taste and value for money) and the staff always look happy. I like lingering here for as long as I can.

Wanting to avoid my hotels breakfast I hit up Yelp to find a nearby coffee spot that served a decent breakfast; and the reviews led me to Penny University a short 7 min walk away. Arriving just after opening I was glad to have got there early as the regulars queued up fast for their morning coffees; therefore I had a prime spot to watch the coming and goings whilst enjoying my coffee. The eggs and salmon was big & beautiful, I typically avoid white bread, but it was simple and honest in this dish, a dollop of butter left to melt through the middle. The staff were friendly and engaging and never once ignored the tourist in favour of the locals; though it wa snide to hear them ask about their weekend plans etc.

Perfect for the East End - a beautiful cafe with great decor and fantastic food. The breakfast menu, salads/wraps are by far the best in the area. Good job guys!

What a great find! My friend, Mirella, brought me here a few days ago for a coffee and a shared…read moreorange polenta cake. Oh my!! Needless to say it has haunted my dreams since, so today after a hard workout my husband and I biked over for lunch. The first thing that strikes you while approaching from Kitchener Street is the lush, inviting covered wrap around porch; there is plentiful and adequately spaced tables located here (so as not to be forced to overhear unwanted convos). Next, upon entering this clean and tidy cottage you will notice three separate distinct seating areas: the main dining area, a smaller dining area tucked away by the kitchen and pastry counter, and a delightful and welcoming covered deck. We were promptly greeted by one of the friendly staff and seated straight away. Tap water, glasses, and menus were waiting at the table and after an appropriate amount of time our order was taken and special requests confirmed. This place is really busy but it seems well managed; the staff is very attentive without being intrusive. As we waited for our order we noticed the bustling and efficient staff who worked like a well oiled machine - dirty dishes were quickly removed from tables, additional carafes of tap water were dropped off without being asked for, and patrons seemed relaxed, very happy, and satisfied. By meals' end we, too, were among those happy people. My husband ordered a sandwich that I struggle to recall the name ;( it was a hearty sandwich made from perfectly toasted sourdough, grilled chicken breast meat, swiss cheese, garlic aioli, a mix of tender and flavourful greens, and crispy bacon. I ordered the smashed avocado with feta on the same delightfully prepared sourdough. It, too, came with a generous portion of greens. We could not be happier with our newfound neighbourhood brekkie place. AND there is a coffee loyalty card to boot!

You couldn't add Kale even though one dish had it and the outdoor area had a strong bad smell. Still the coffee was great and the juice and food was good. My partner didn't like hers but I would come back and try again.

A large Venue decorated in modern decor, and some space outdoors for groups. Love the booths in the far back corner. The staff are super friendly here. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and seated. At all times you feel welcomed and you know that you will be looked after. I love a all day breakfast menu. I saw a picture of the gin cured trout and knew that was what I had to order before I arrived. It was just so pretty! I was right, it was almost to pretty to eat. I couldn't bare digging into it without taking a few snaps. The trout was cured well. I feel like it could have been cured a little longer to have a deeper flavour. Maybe more salt and sugar was needed. But, that does not mean that it was not tasty! It was really lovely. The egg was poached well, crème fraîche was a great edition and lifted the dish. An added surprise was the sea greens. I really loved them. I think that not many people are used to them, but they are really tasty. The carrots were nice, but felt a little out of place. I think what the dish needed was a sauce. The crème fraîche was great, but something with a deeper flavour or seasoning. The rest of the menu looked great! I look forward to test more items. In fact, be sure to try out the coffee. I think we may have another great coffee destination in Adelaide. They offer a couple of filter options and cold drip. I am looking forward to watch how this business develops!

I can't tell you the number of coffee places I have been to in Adelaide that "close" at 5, but you can't get a coffee after 4:30 because the help are cleaning up to close. Here, the reply was a big grin and, "Sure mate-would you like anything else with that?" The barista then proceeded to make me a great latte (and obviously used equipment that had been cleaned for the evening shut down). I was attending a workshop around the corner and had had a long day-I was in desperate need of a good coffee. I can only describe my first visit here as like those RAA commercials where a knight in shining armour rescues you. I have since been back many times over the last three years and I have noticed that they always treat me the same-great coffee and cheerful service. Another thing I have noticed is that most of the employees have been there a long time too. I think that says a lot about an establishment. I know boutique coffee houses are popular (I like them anyway), but I am always happy to find a chain store that does a quality job. They are located in the lobby of the Calvary Wakefield Hospital and have extended hours. They've never failed me-I doubt they'll fail you. Oh, you can tell by my reviews, I drink a LOT of coffee....... Eat drink and be merry, but not too much. JD

I also find the prices not worth paying for the quality and quantity received. Great improvement is definitely needed, and soon!
