Lazy bar staff can't even be bothered taking their cleaning chemicals off my table!
    Jeremy E.

This has to be one of the worst pubs in Adelaide. Let's set aside the fact it's set in a picturesque location on the beach. Drinks are drastically over priced. The head chef here is utterly hopeless. The food is awful, worst pub food in Adelaide, yet it's priced at the upper end of the market, I've paid similar in upmarket restaurants. Recently I arrived at 9:04pm on a Saturday evening and I was told rudely but a bimbo bar staff girl that the kitchen was closed, despite the staff still all being in there preparing orders from minutes earlier. I sat with my girlfriend drinking our $9 glass of ciders watching people have their meals delivered for the next 20 minutes. When I went to ask again if they would even do a bowl of chips, she said, the staff were tired from working a long shift. Clearly a very badly managed venue, that has a bad head chef who can't manage rosters, kitchen and has absolutely NO cooking skills beyond dunking slop in a deep frier. Recommend stay a away and look towards Brighton or Glenelg for a good drink or meal on the beach.

Well, an afternoon at the beach turned into dinner across the road at the Seacliff Beach Hotel and gee, that was a good move. What a lovely way to end the day. My tummy is STILL hating me for finishing the Beach Burger I just HAD to eat all off, about 3 hours ago! Was I really expected to turn down a burger with the lot? And by 'lot' I really mean LOT! Beef pattie, bacon, egg, beetroot, pineapple, cheese, onion, tomato and lettuce all came out with the hope that the skewer pierced through it would keep it all together. I can't say that I would have enticed people into the place as I devoured the burger that felt like it was the same size as my head. There is absolutely NO WAY to eat this burger without looking like you are doing your best impersonation of the toothbrush character with the flip-top head. It was GREAT! Another BIG plus for me was that the children's meal came with a small salad. When I say small, it really is small; one wedge of tomato, one slice of cucumber, four matchstick sized carrot sticks and a massive amount of assorted lettuce leaves, but at least there was some salad. It really urks me (yes, urks is a word...it is now!) when children's meals are all fried brown food!!! The service was great. We had a table that was at the front of the building so we watched the sun set over the water. Upstairs looked like a more popular area for the 'drinkers' to hang out but downstairs was more 'family friendly'. Would not hesitate for a moment to go back here again.

I've been here a couple of times with an old friend, but he didn't particularly like this pub namely because his Dad used to drink here all the time (there is something about being a University Student that suggests that you can't drink at the same pub as your Dad). Anyway, that was ages ago, and since I have come back to Adelaide for a couple of weeks I decided to go and check out some places that I hadn't been to for a while, and this is one of them. Basically it is a beachfront hotel, so you can expect all of the beach goers to swarm in here after a good swim, though not being near the main part of Brighton Beach it doesn't get as crowded as the Esplanade. It's a nice little place, with outdoor areas where you can look over the beach, and they also have this cool wall where kids can draw on it in chalk. Not bad, and would no doubt come back here.

This place is my local and I have been going regularly since I was 18. Location wise this place is 5 star. I love sitting on the balcony watching the sunset, but be sure to get there early to get a spot. I find the food is a bit hit and miss. It has it's ups and downs and I guess that is based on the chef that cooks for you. There is a new menu, which I recently had the beef burger from. The menu states it comes on brioche however it came out on a Turkish bread of some sort leaving me quite disappointed. The burger flavours were still very nice I just really wanted that brioche bun!

I really like this pub because of its location with views to the beach through the palm trees, adds a tropical feel. Each time we've eaten here, whether with family or friends we've sat on the upstairs balcony to take in the view. Also, come to think of it we've only ever been here during the summer. Food wise I haven't had a bad meal yet, going with the salt and pepper squid or steak has always been a winner. Can't say the same for the pokies though but I am the last of the big spenders $5 being about the limit. On one previous occasion I remember my hubby and I were on the balcony upstairs and started to eat our dinner when some bogan lit up a smoke, obviously couldn't read the No Smoking signs along the wall. I pointed out to him the rules which he ignored until the waitress walked past and told him to butt it out. Na na nana naaa!

This is the worst pub food I ever had. We had barramundi and snapper special. Omg, strong fishy smell when the dishes came to us. I tried it as I was really hungry. Super over cooked, super dry. Even asparagus were slightly burn. Potato salad with tasteless creamy sauce. It was so horrible. Luckily we were about to return the food. We had T-bone steak and lamb pizza instead. Pizza was ok, not much flavour to it, but eatable. T-bone was supermarket quality and it was slightly over cooked. The chips were as soft as, didn't even touched it. Last, our "value" desert- tri-plater for 5 bucks. 3 weird looking ?cake with sweet cream in middle. Taste like fat and sugar mix, only thing good was that half slide of fresh strawberry. 2 bites, we done. This pub was very busy with families and friends, dinner or beer by the sea. Can't understand why. Will never go back again. Disappointed.

    The menu.

Come here for the views and a chance to drink overlooking the water. This is a typical pub, with a typical menu, but the views makeup for this. Our chips were hot, the calamari fresh and the serving size reasonable. We enjoyed our deserts too! We were here after the #radelaide #storm so the weather meant we had to sit inside. Still we enjoyed ourselves.

I've heard people say that they never change their menu - well, for one, that's not true - there's always seasonal specials floating around - but two, the core menu doesn't need to change. It IS a little formal - you'll be greeted at the bar, and the expectation is you'll settle down for an aperitif before being seated. There's invariably a little dip to nibble on, too. A small serve of the house speciality meatballs will help you through the choices on the menu - and the BEST steak on the day will be recommended. There are some alternatives for non cow lovers, but really Cork & Cleaver is ALL about the best beef in town. I'm normally a mushroom sauce kind of person, but here, go the bernaise, it is an incredible accompaniement to the perfect steak you'll receive - the plate of sauteed mushrooms as a side is pretty top notch too. Desserts are done with just as much skill as the meat - the personal attention of your waiter or waitress will ensure your dining experience is second to none. Approximately once a month myself and some of the lads (there are about 15 regulars now) get together for an onslaught of meat. Needless to say the fairer sex is not permitted due to the manliness required to consume as much meat as we do. My nickname is 'The Surgeon' on account of my preference to cutting all of the fat off before eating. The go is, at the BBQ Inn one must order a minimum of the Mixed Grill which is a porterhouse, lamb shashlik, 3 chevapchichis, a big-ass sausage and some token onion, tomato and potato salad. Any other order must be approved by the Man Meat Members present. Just to paint an even more 'enlightening' picture, mid meal 'dumps' are not uncommon. The first time this wondrous occasion occurred it was my two mates (brothers) and myself. At one point I began to turn white and the waitress was incredibly concerned with my well being. This was my first experience of the 'Meat Sweats', and certainly has not been my last! Anyplace that can give birth to something as amazing as Man Meat Nights has got to be sweet as, and the BBQ Inn is most certainly that! I have noticed the quality of meat has dropped a little in the last few years, but I tend to take a LOOOOONG time to eat my half cow, so if gets a little cold and tough! By the way....if I have inspired you to organise your own Man Meat Group remember that the aftermath is often unpleasant. I'll leave it at that!

Go for the mixed grill as you get a decent selection of meats. You have to get at least one or of chevapchichis as they are amazing. I have never had steak from here, but I will one day. I have, however, tried the burgers. They forgot the kangaroo from the tasting platter, the saddle burner prawns 'served in a tent' sounded intriguing but there was no tent nor anything resembling a tent to speak of when it came. After having several people recommend this place to us during our Australian holiday, we decided to check it out. Since it was a Saturday we called ahead for a reservation-we were only calling about an hour ahead but were able to get a table outside. It had been 100 degrees (40 Celsius) for a couple of days so no one wanted the outside tables but luckily for us the weather changed and the temp was a mild 79 at dinner time. As others have said, this place is about meat so that's what we had. My wife and I split the porterhouse and while it was a bit under our requested medium temperature, it was a wonderfully flavored steak and just enough for the two of us. It is served cut off the bone and sliced which makes it very easy for sharing. We also shared a pear salad which surprisingly was served at the same time as the main dish (which, as we looked around seemed to be how it works). The two others in the group each had a filet (or as they put it "fillet" - pronounced " fill-it"). They actually have two different ones on the menu and the main differences are the size (in grams of course) and marbling (Scotch Fillet is the less lean, more marbled steak). The other thing American diners will notice is the size and shape-about an inch think and round like a small pancake. Nonetheless, these steaks were also quite tasty. You can order extra sauces for the steaks but we chose not to and we're happy with that choice. The dishes are served with roasted potatoes and they also have a decent wine list featuring several nice choices from the surrounding Wine regions. Recommended.
