They demand bluprints for their jobs, and do credit you $1300 for the plans, if you use them for the job. None of them were what I asked. My first bid to redo my front yard was $38,000. By eliminating things we never wanted in the first place, got it down to $28,000. It took them 4 months from beginning to end. I like the end result however, I did not get an itemized invoice until the end. 1 tree was $1700. The Sega plants were $330. ea. If they had given me this invoice in the beginning I never would have used them. read more

i couldn't be more disappointed with a company. Of all places, I discovered this organization through chat gpt. They were recommended as I was looking for a local business to partner with on a backyard remodel. Admittedly, I was a bit reluctant when I was advised that their upfront charge to procure plans was $1,200 and would be billed across the first three meetings. I paid $200 after the first meeting and felt good about the ordeal until "the designer" arrived. He may be a great botanist but has terrible interpersonal skills as he mumbled and fumbled through the presentations in both meeting. He used tons of industry jargon then seemed to be annoyed when I kept stopping him to clarify things. i was charged an additional $400 after meeting two and the only difference between meetings two and three was that he got my instructions wrong so he brought the same plans out and drew three circles (tree locations). I gained absolutely nothing from these meetings and actually feel less educated. They tell you that you can use your deposit towards the job but with their prices that wont even cover excavation! 10k for three trees and a few shrubs sim doesn't sound okay read more

FiveSTAR was scheduled to come to our house today (2/6/23) at 12pm to look at our backyard and give us a quote for a remodel. I received a confirmation email on 1/31 when I called to schedule the appointment. My husband arranged to work from home today and we hired a babysitter to watch our kids so we could talk with Steve. By 12:15, he still wasn't here, so I called FiveSTAR to see if he was on his way. The lady on the phone said the appointment had been cancelled. I didn't cancel the appointment and I didn't receive any notification that they'd cancelled it. She said she was going to call Steve to see if he could get out here. I told her not to bother. If this is how the company represents itself at the start, I have zero interest in working with them further. I suggest you look elsewhere for your landscape needs. read more

Their rep came to our custom home and spent the entire visit telling us how he was not going to give us a sales pitch. He spoke incessantly, used profanity, and was insulting. As if that was not annoying enough, he said over and over, "this is going to cost you a fortune," as if his clients don't have a sense about pricing (note we are defense contractors and build large scale facilities, in other words, very well informed). He did not listen to what we wanted and interrupted us every time we spoke. Later when I emailed their manager about how we were treated he responded with the fact that they had 30-something year olds as if the complaint was only about age instead of professionalism. On top of that he kept saying I'll make the drawing of your yard myself. I'm not an artist and it won't be great but that's life. In the same breath he wanted to charge a minimum of $50k. For a drawing that's "not great"?? I don't know anyone who wishes to have any service provider come out to their home only to sputter utter nonsense. I'd give them zero stars if the option were avail, not merely for the poorly trained sales associate, but for the sheer lack of professional accountability on behalf of their management, for not taking the complaint seriously. I am glad to say that we sent our $100k+ landscape project to a much better company. Don't accept less than you deserve and don't waste your time with this company. read more

Had my backyard landscaped with artificial turf. There were multiple walkthroughs done before installation. Never was I told that my window would produce a glare on the future turf that would melt it within hours of exposure. Well, that's exactly what happened just hours after the turf was installed. I was told after the damage was done that I would need to purchase exterior window blackout shades to reduce the UV heat reflection on the turf. Now I am being told that I will need to repurchase the turf at another $600-800 dollar with the original project price being $7990. Due to their lack of attention to detail, I am paying the price....not cool! Please beware of artificial turf and home window heat reflection on that turf. It will damage the turf located near window within hours on hot days. read more

Bad, bad, experience. We had someone come to our home and just go hard core sales pitch, yelling and running around the yard. Didn't care at all about asking us questions to see if we had a vision or to understand what we had in mind. Just kept telling us how bad the yard was and how expensive it would be. We were still curious about their quote and he committed to sending us an estimate. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they never sent us an estimate. Very unprofessional and as a result not a company I would trust with a large investment. read more

I would actually give FiveStar Landscape 3 and a half stars. The work they did on my backyard turned out very nice; however, I had a warranty issue that in my opinion was not handled professionally. In August of 2019 I entered into a contract with FiveStar Landscape to landscape my entire backyard (new construction) which included building a custom pondless waterfall, complete with lighting. Oscar was the gentleman who built the waterfall, which is still beautiful to this day, and Ryan Driffill was the Project Manager. Both men were very nice to work with. The led lights installed in the waterfall had a 5 year warranty, but, one light failed after just 3 years. I contacted FiveStar Landscape to report the issue to their "Warranty Department." The next day I received a callback from Tim Bell, the General Manager. Mr. Bell quickly told me that there was little information he could provide on the light installed since the company does not keep records beyond 3 years, despite there being a 5-year product warranty. I asked him if he could at least provide the date my project was completed, which he reluctantly did. He told me he would do more research and get back to me, which he never did. I happen to have a copy of the executed contract so I called the lighting company and provided details about my issue, along with photos of the light that was no longer working. Thankfully the lighting company has a lenient policy about replacing lights still under warranty, and they quickly sent me a brand new light, free of charge and free of shipping costs. I share my story as a cautionary note to others doing business with FiveStar Landscape. They may do a satisfactory job initially, but if anything goes wrong during the warranty period, you may have problems getting any cooperation or information from the company. read more

Crew chief made excellent suggestions that we had not thought of, and we took advantage of. Cost for requested additional work was inline with original, and done within the original time frame. I can't enough good things about the work that Fivestar Landscape did for us in creating a back yard and retreat for our new home. Mark, the owner, came by and talked us through the process. He then brought in a landscape designer who incorporated all of my requests in a beautiful design (bird/butterfly friendly plants, turf instead of grass, low maintenance and ready for an outdoor kitchen). Once the design was done, Mark gave us a competitive bid and a great timeline for completing the work, so we agreed to stick with his team. They were all very professional, responsive and stuck to a pretty aggressive schedule, completing the work right before the heavy rains struck. In just a few months, we went from an ugly scrapped dirt back yard, to a beautiful retreat that I enjoy spending time in. We had our front yard completely redone and we are very pleased with the end product, but there were and are a lot of little things that have soured our experience with this company. The project manager (Ryan), the foreman who oversaw the day to day (Taylor), and the work crew were all exceptional. They were friendly and respectful and did their best to make sure all of our needs and concerns were met. Taylor especially went above and beyond for us, and we were very grateful for that. The things that didn't sit too well with us was that the clean up during and after our cement was poured was a little laxed and left this residue all over the side of our garage. We were told it would rinse off, so we didn't pay it to much mind. Once the concrete was dry and we were able to access the area and tried to clean the mess, it wouldn't come off. Even after using the pressure washer it was still there. It left that wall looking dirty and unkempt which was a stark contrast to how pretty our yard now looked. So when we called the front office to have this resolved, no one called us back for over a week and a half. And that is with me leaving three different messages with the front office. I ended up just texting the foreman to ask for help, and then something was done. Then we had a plant that didn't take and an issue with the drip system and yet again no answer from the main office for over a week. It doesn't take but a few minutes to call and touch base with a client, even if you cannot come out to deal with things right away. The communication from the main office is really unreliable and slow, which is very frustrating. I don't see us doing business with this company again because the feeling of our concerns being ignored was not a good feeling. Even though we were no longer an "active project", I still think we deserved decent communication. read more

We hired FiveStar for a front courtyard/patio with a wall and gate, as well as new ground cover and plants in the front and back. We also have been having a flooding issue in our front area when it rains, and FiveStar helped with new irrigation. Overall, everything was done exactly how we wanted it. And the workers showed up every day. Ryan, our project manager, is very responsive throughout the process and has been back over after completion to help with some sprinkler issues. read more

This was a big project and it took a long time to finish. I have a huge backyard and my son wanted to give me a gift of fixing my yard so I would not have to work so hard maintaining it. They dug up the lawn and proceeded to create several mounts with Japanese Maple trees. I bought more flowers as it was pretty sparse with the flowers. Overall it looked fairly good, but they did not put down weed fabric and so I had to hire another person to come help me pull weeds. When I complained about this as I was under the impression that weed fabric would be down they send someone to pull some of the remaining weeds. At that time the warrenty man came and pulled some weeds and put down some weed emergent. I still have weeds and have asked repeatedly for them to put down the weed fabric, but they simply quote me a price to do what should have been done in the first place. Also they gave me shredded bark which has to be the cheapest they could find and it looks horrible! This was not an inexpensive job and they were well paid, read more

incredible experience all the way around. We have a home in sunridge meadows near el dorado hills that fivestar landscape decked out. Our home had a swimming pool that was done in the early 2000's which was lacking some serious curb appeal around it. Our backyard was just a concrete slab and a pool... it worked but pretty boring. We met with Fivestar and from the gates loved their ideas. We now have a super lush and vibrant front yard as well as an incredible outdoor living space. We found FiveSTAR Landscape on the Nextdoor App because the came highly recommended in our neighborhood. Five star was easy to get ahold of and the staff seemed very eager to help and they also seemed just as excited as we were to start our design process. We met with myrah.. Hope we got that right, sorry! After meeting, we were then given our first set of designs. We made a few revisions and then the following week, they started the installation. The crew was super polite and friendly, they also cleaned the yard up the best they could each day. They really treated our yard as if it were their own. It was such a relief knowing they really cared. After everything was said and done, the guys took the time to walk us around the yard and explain each plant, what they do in certain seasons, and how they react to changing weather. FiveSTAR Landscape and Design - CROOKS! We got bids from four companies last month. FiveSTAR was twice and three times as much as the others! They want to charge us $900 for a design, would not itemize their quote down to a level that shows prices per item, came down $2000 from a $30,000 quote and said it was for quotes over $30,000 while gauging ALL the pricing, over measured our backyard, and then promised it would be done by July! All the other quotes were more honest, gave itemized lists, free designs, did not promise us the moon and was half as much as FiveSTAR! We are going with PONDEROSA Landscaping in Shingle Springs. They do not have a website but can deliver all that we asked for and more for half as much. They have itemized their quotes, provided multiple measurements to ensue accuracy, showed us price differentiation between Ponderosa and FiveSTAR and one other just to prove FiveSTAR was gauging! We cannot not wait to see the finished project. FiveSTAR are crooks through and through! read more

Our experience with Fivestar has been amazing. The process was pretty easy, front the initial design to the actual install, everything went really smooth. We had a stained concrete patio poured, spa installed, patio cover built and an amazing yard designed around it all. The plants and trees that fivestar recommended are perfect for our yard and we are so excited to see the transformation over the next couple years. The spa and patio are going to be our "every night" hang out spot and it's so nice to have the added patio cover above it all. My wife and I are over the moon about everything that was designed and installed. What was also really nice is that after the install was done, we got an education on operating the spa and tips and tricks on how to save energy as well as an awesome overview on the exact plants and trees that were planted and how to take care of them. I can't tell you how pleased we were with the service at Five Star Landscape. Every aspect of the process went as promised from design to completion. All of which was accomplished in a timely fashion. Five Star fashioned for us a beautiful side patio with sealed / textured concrete, seating wall and fire pit. It was a dramatic transformation. We were very pleased with their design architect, general contractor and customer service representative. I would highly recommend them to family and friends. We had landscaping work done in our yard last year and the final results have been fine but not without a lot of stress on my part in getting these results. First of all we first contacted them in late June of 2021 but with all the plans, and meetings, and changes it was December before the work was finally able to be completed. This company is very top heavy with many supervisors that appear to do little and at least in our case leave the workers unattended while they disappear for most of the day. We first met with Steve, who turned out to be a salesman. Once we signed up we were then able to get a landscape designer, Paul, out to make a plan for a portion of our yard. We had given them an idea for a budget but the proposal incorporated more areas of our yard than we had asked for and was 5X our budget! This then involved additional meetings to adjust the plan and we came up with changes that we agreed to, but I learned later that poor to few notes were made by Steve and Paul and although they gave me a new contract proposal there was no design plan to back this up when they were ready to do the work. I was promised a plant list by a meeting date a week before the work was to commence, but they showed up without one. Finally Paul came up with a revised plan and I went to pick it up at their offices, after seeing it though I realized that many of the changes that we had agreed to were not incorporated in the plan so this involved more discussion with Paul. Since we were purchasing the plants ourselves I then finally took the list of plants to Green Acres the week before they were to do the work, only to find out that half of the plants were not available in December! I was ready to postpone but Paul hunted around and found most of the plants or made substitutions that we decided we could work with. The only thing missing were two Western Redbuds, which were never found, so they only dug holes for them. Then on the date of the beginning of work on site the workers and their supervisor Andy showed up without a plan for the work to be done! I had to go out and give them some guidance myself as they were unsure how to proceed. Then on the day the plants were delivered Andy and I placed some of the plants using the most recent plan I had been given, which I realized did not incorporate all the changes. We left some plants in the wrong places until the final plan could be brought. But Andy left for most of the day, as he did the day before, and while he was gone the workers started to dig holes and plant all the plants, apparently Andy didn't give them proper instruction. I had to call Ryan, Andy's supervisor about the lack of direction, Ryan then called Paul to come out and help us place all the plants in the correct spots. This was all very stressful for me as I had to keep pointing out the mistakes that were being made. I feel that the work took much longer to complete and was probably more expensive than it needed to be. Perhaps if you have a big project this would be a good thing, but ours was fairly simple and I think we would have been better served by looking elsewhere. read more

A few things have transpired since my 6/27/2019 post. Mark, the owner, reached out to extend his apologies and offered to rectify the situation. Initially, I was hesitant, but he seemed sincere so I agreed to meet at the property where he drew up plans and provided an estimate we were both comfortable with. It's not everyday an owner takes time to personally call or meet potenial clients to correct an issue. After leaving my not-so-thrilling review regarding our experience with the company's rep who came out to our home for a backyard landscaping job quote, I was contacted directly by the owner, Mark, who apologized profusely over the bad experience & decided to take it upon himself to give us the service he believes all potential clients deserve. So, arrangements were made for another estimate to be done by the owner himself. Upon meeting Mark, it was easy to see how personable & pleasant he was. He began by giving me the history of his company that he began over 30 yrs ago & explained how much pride he takes in his company. Good for you Mark! I like & can fully appreciate a person who owns up to his company's faults and also takes his business seriously. We proceeded to explain our vision of what we'd like done for our backyard job. Mark was very attentive & listened to what we had to say, but also provided input & suggestions along the way. THAT'S what we wanted at our original appointment. Mark was very forthcoming about what he & his company can & would do. He took his time in explaining things & processes, and just handled us SOO much better than Ed! When we wrapped up our discussion, he promised to provide an estimate either the next day or the following. We told him there wasn't a rush, but appreciated the timeliness. Finally, before leaving, Mark personally handed us a VERY nice gift of appreciation for allowing him a 'redo'. & This gift was no small thing either......so THANK YOU MARK!!! And kudos for delivering on the promise of getting the estimate to us quickly, as it was indeed received the very next day, at a very reasonable price, I might add! I have much respect for the way you took care of us. All-in-all, if Mark was to be the one to handle our job from start to finish, we likely would've chosen him for the job. He went above & beyond to repair the 'damage' and I could not be more proud of him for doing so. If you're looking for a stand-up guy to do business with, someone you know will take pride in the work provided, & reasonably priced, then I would definitely recommend FiveSTAR as a consideration! read more

Well let me start with the positive things about this company ... they were very nice and professional and did everything in the end to make things right (after several errors had occurred). They were good at helping us design our yard and pic out plants and trees. Several plants had died abs they did come out right away to fix them along with irrigation issues we had. They also made sure to give us the fire pit we wanted after several mistakes has taken place on the execution of the fire pit. Overall good guys and good work but.... we signed a contract on Jan and they weren't done until aug. Their time management was awful. They didn't even get started on our yard till May and told us they under bid us so they are trying to work around things. There were also so many mistakes but like I said they fixed them. Overall our experience was ok but they just needed to manage time better. read more

We can't say enough about our experience with five star. We began researching many companies in Sacramento to do an overhaul on our backyard and choose five star. We are so glad we did. From the many initial meetings we had abut ideas and inspiration to the actual installation and then the final product, everything was awesome. A five star for patience!! We had some original ideas and thoughts on redoing our yard and after meeting with Tim, we switched focus and we are so glad we did. We are obviously not experts in this and Tim made the whole process very easy in discussing different options and was unbelievably patient with us. We did go back and fourth a few times which was our fault, but everyone made us feel so comfortable and had an overwhelming amount of patience with us. All in all, we are so happy with the end result. It's raining today so well update some pictures in spring when things start to bloom and take their own. SO EXCITED to see the yard take shape!!! I Wanted to update my earlier review. Five stars general manager contacted me as well as the owner Mark. They wanted to make things right and make it clear that's not how as a business they operate. Mark came out to my home personally today. Went over the project with me and I will have my estimate within 24 hours. That is the kind of business I expected from five star and that's what I'm getting now. I had one of FiveStar estimators come give me a bid on a Friday of Labor Day weekend, so I knew I wouldn't see a estimate until at least Wednesday. The following Friday comes and still no estimate. I called the estimator and received his voicemail. Hours later I received a call back along with a bunch of excuses. I made it very clear I wasn't happy and would like to have the estimate before the end of business. This didn't happen. Instead I got a email with the same excuses I received on the phone. He then said he could maybe get a estimate to me by Monday. I let him know that wouldn't work. I finally received a estimate Saturday afternoon. It definitely was not what I was expecting. Very vague and roughly 6k more than my other bids. I can only imagine how many more issues would have come up if I chose to use FiveSTAR for my backyard project read more

My wife moved into a new development about a year ago, and of course we had to landscape the backyard. My wife met Amber at a Sacramento Home and Garden Show and made an appointment for a home visit. We immediately hit it off with her. She really listened to what we were looking for. We had some ideas but didn't have a definite vision for our yard. Over the several evenings we met, we collaborated effectively and, at the end of the day, had a set of beautiful plans that work for our tastes and lifestyle.
