A local friend introduced us to Fives. Such an awesome place! We had amazing drinks. I thought I ordered the Mexican Firing Squad. I may have the name wrong but the drink was intensely spicy which is right up my alley. I could feel a little sweat under my eyes which makes me happy. My friend had the Pepino and the cucumber swirl was a nice touch. We had super fresh oysters and learned some of them came from the bartender's family area. We liked the smaller less milky ones and they took good care of us. All yummy. The caviar was a nice spread. I had only had caviar one other time in my life. I really liked the caviar on the potato chips with a bit of egg white and yolk, plus a touch of crème. Very flavorful! I highly recommend this place. Every spot at the bar is cool. Beautiful space with the bar situated perfectly, affording a view of Jackson Square, Fives has a good selection of spirits, wines and beer. If you're vegan, know there's not a single plant-based option on the menu (I didn't ask about modifications), but I was here only to get a drink and it's truly the perfect place in the French Quarter to do so. Andrea is now behind the stick and expertly will pour you the cocktail best aligned with what you're thirsting for at the moment. I love the old timey vibes, with the gorgeous fixtures, chandelier and marble topped horseshoe bar. There's also several tables if sitting at the bar isn't your thing. This is one of my fave spots for Oysters on the Half Shell in the city. When I dined, there was about 6 options from PEI, California, and local Gulf. The night i was there, Becks, my waitress, was on point, I tried several of the drink options (amazing drinks) and the food was delivered quickly and friendly. My best friend and I came to New Orleans solely to be on a drink and oyster quest for 3 days. We set out to find the best of both in New Orleans and fully expected it to be a competitive market. The humidity remains a true reminder of the swampiness over here and going from one bar to the next was a danger to our survival with the 95+ degree heat, yet, we did not waiver from the mission. We live to tell the tale of our results: FIVES WAS THE BEST GOD DAMN BAR in all of the quarters of New Orleans. The oysters are so fresh, we had dozens upon dozens of them. Their happy hour is from 3-6pm and we were there DAILY. The air conditioning and marble counters were such a cool relief, too. We quickly got comfortable and drank filthy grey goose martinis ..the Blue cheese of those olives was something from the Mecca itself. deliciously creamy and beautifully hand stuffed. They were ordered multiple times as well. Luke took care of us and Kevin sat down with us and even drew up a map of the best places to go now that he knew our standard. 10/10 service from them both and we are so grateful to have gotten lucky enough to have them as our bartenders. We sit here, yet again, hours before our flight because we simply must have one last fresh oyster with their magical pink peppercorn mignionette, and a dirty Blue cheese martini. Cool spot! Such a cool and cozy space with good vibes. Service was fast and friendly. Stopped in to grab a drink while waiting out traffic on a Friday night and ended up trying a couple dishes. How could I pass up an opportunity when the menu had such amazing offerings. I ordered the Gulf Shrimp Cocktail and the Beef Tartare. Both were excellent. The shrimp did have a different texture than I've had before; almost fluffy for lack of a better term. The yolk atop the tartare was icing on the proverbial cake. We went back a year later (twice) and we still love Fives. The bartenders are so friendly and make excellent cocktails. I do not eat raw oysters but they had a wide variety, and many people ordered and seemed to be enjoying them. I tried a gin fizz for the first time and it's one of the best cocktails I've ever had. This is by far my favorite bar on my trip to NOLA. loved the intimate setting with the actual bar taking center stage with a few small tables scattered around. Lively but able hold conversations. Stumbled across Fives when looking for a break from walking and shopping, literally just across the street from Jackson square. Definitely surprised to find this small, cozy, and well non-touristy gem right in the French Quarter. They have a great drink lineup and they also offer some small plates and seafood, with a diverse selection of oysters. What became my go-to during New Orleans - I ordered a sazerac, then a Pimm's cup, and finally their hurricane. All were well crafted cocktails and that hurricane is stout. The Wife and I also shared a half dozen oysters, which hit the spot. This really is a great place if you just need to stop in to avoid some of the crowds or just want a nice drink and some small plates during your French Quarter jaunt. Oh.my.goodness. SO GOOD!! We dined here for happy hour and absolutely LOVED everything about our visit. The ambiance was a chill, trendy vibe with most of their seating around their circular bar. Aside from that, they have about four small tables around the room- so with that said, you may have to wait for a seat but it's so worth it. Firstly, the staff is so friendly and welcoming. Their vibe makes you excited to try their drinks and food. We visited for happy hour and ordered a few delicious cocktails - all fresh and perfect. We also ordered raw oysters that were perfectly shucked, chilled, and paired with great accompaniments of cocktail sauce, lemon, and vinaigrette. I regretted not ordering a full dozen. We also ordered the trout caviar. We were hesitant as we love Osetra caviar but went ahead for the trout and for this, there were no regrets, it was wonderful. Popped in on the first night of our trip in New Orleans and we really enjoyed our drinks. Jonah was our bartender and he was very welcoming. We ordered the pimms cup and Ramos gin fizz. Both of these immediately became new favorites! This place was decorated with a lot of framed art pieces and photography but not overly cluttered. Definitely a vibe as it's a bit dim inside as well. It was also obvious that the employees here enjoy working with one another; they have fun working with each other without making patrons feel left out and that's always nice when staff know how to balance the two! So I have mixed feelings about Fives. It is definitely very snug, and not a family restaurant. Going early with one kid was doable, but I feel later would be more of a bar scene. The menus were either put away wet or cleaned with a horribly stinky cloth, we ran to the bathrooms to wash our hands once we realized where the awful stench came from. Our first waitress wasn't very personable or friendly, but after our first round of AMAZING drinks arrived, we were visited by two other employees (Austin & and young lady who brought a rose over for our little one) that made us feel more welcome! There's probably 12-15 seats at a shoehorn shaped bar with small tables at the front that can seat 3-4. The service is outstanding and the drinks are impeccable. We were immediately greeted and given menus. I ordered the espresso martini and my husband ordered a classic Sazerac. Both were beautifully presented and tasted perfect. Our friends ordered a gin fizz and a hurricane. The gin fizz came with a table presentation for the egg white to rise, which was super cool. I have passed Fives multiple times, been meaning to stop in and finally did on last night w| a friend who is visiting. We stopped by on a Tuesday, that is of course a pretty slow day in the city so it was pretty dead. We sat on the cocktail bar side and we were greeted by a super nice bartender-- I can't remember her name, but she had loads of energy!! We ordered a few oysters and they were hands downs some of the best oysters I've tasted. My favorites were the Mon Louis, such a great, clean taste. My drinks were extremely good. I could have sat there all night stuffing my face a drinking. I wasn't aware that Fives is owned by the same people who own The Columns, makes sense because food and drinks are always perfection there as well. Fives is located in Jackson Square, prime location for tourists as it is centrally located in the Quarter. The space is limited, If you are expecting a full blown out restaurant, this isn't the location. Fives is truly a cocktail/oyster bar. I believe I saw a total of four tables in each corner w| four chairs to each table. This will certainly become a new spot for me to hang. read more
