Do not hesitate--order the grilled flank steak salad at Five West. Perfectly cooked and flavor forward steak, crispy potatoes, fresh arugula, and just the right amount of balsamic. Simple, balanced, and seriously good.

Updating our review as we have now visited a number of times and keep coming back as we are impressed with the service, specials, and menu. One of our new favorites is the Nashville chicken flatbread (all flatbreads and bottles of wine half price on Wednesday's). The outdoor patio is also awesome for when the weather is nice! We just stopped in tonight and happened to be there for their 10th birthday so they were handing out promotions and we each got a certificate for free appetizers as our prize! Will be back soon!

The food, ambiance, service and location was excellent! Our only critique is the Southwest Egg Rolls lacked chicken. It tasted like a cream cheese egg roll. There was no texture of chicken at all. The flavor was good but it would have been nice to see and taste the chicken. We would definitely revisit when in town.

Not far from the Mayo campus and next to a Comfort Inn and Suites, so we just walked here. Wednesdays they have several drinks specials and half price bottles of wine and $8 flatbreads. We got a bottle of wine and both got salads. They were huge! I got the Blacked Chicken Quinoa Salad and my mom got the Cherry Almond Apple Salad and added chicken. We also did the $3 bread with a garlic herb butter and maple bourbon butter. Both were great with the 3 warm rolls. Our waiter was very thorough and polite. We sat outside, which was a little warm but cooled down as the sun went down. It seems like the spot to be for happy hour. I'd definitely come back if I was in the area!

I had the beer battered walleye burger with garlic fries and the chef's choice soup. Came in here out of curiosity since I've tried their catering once and salmon was good. The food came out quickly and the servers were pretty quick to come out with water. The garlic fries were nice and crispy though the garlic came in a few clumps so I liked adding them to the walleye burger since there wasn't as much aoli which I felt could have been put on the top bun to add a little more flavor. However the walleye was very crispy and soft inside and the fries also paired well with the soup which definitely hit the spot on a cold winter day! Definitely would probably come here with fr next time and not alone (a little awkward otherwise) but it was nice to check out when hungry. A little pricey but somewhat expected for restaurants in this area and still filling overall. The restaurant is dimly lit overall but I think that's typical for kitchen + bar restaurants and there are lots of candles and overhead lighting.

Definitely recommend! Food was amazing and staff were great. This place is fit for a family or a couple on date night.

Travel day on the way to a family vacation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We booked a room for the night at Sleep Inn and Suites and I noticed Five West was very busy almost next door. We were in a "let's start our vacation" mood so we went and checked it out. I was afraid they were so busy we would be waiting awhile. But they seated the 3 of us directly. We looked at the menus. Friday and Saturday are supposed to be a Prime Rib special, but when our server introduced herself she mentioned they were out already (7:30 Friday night). I would have likely splurged on it for myself but I checked on the rest of the menu. I decided to order the double pork chops with potatoes and spinach. My son had the steak fettuccine, with a filet over pasta and vegetables, and my wife had the chicken and waffles with maple and bourbon syrup. We also ordered the calamari appetizer but ate it before I was able to get a picture. Everything tasted delicious. The pork chops had a lot of red onions in the sauce on the potatoes and the sauce was a little spicy. The pork was obviously smoked and then grilled but very moist on the inside. Our service was very good and timely. I suggest going to Five West for great food and a good atmosphere. Just be a little early.

We love 5 West! The ambiance is fabulous inside and out. You can't go wrong with either seating choice. We really love the patio and they are dog friendly. The calamari is a favorite as well as the flatbreads. Great salads and their Friday night prime rib is solid for the price. Service and cocktails are always impeccable and they have a nice wine selection.

Stellar service, great food--this place really has it all for a lovely date night escape! We were seated right away, and throughout our visit, our server Nikki B. took great care of us. She was so genuinely friendly, we ended up having a nice laugh and brief chat every time she came around. As a cider-lover, I was delighted to see Cider Boys on tap, and my husband enjoyed trying two different beers. We'd just barely made the cut off to order before happy hour ended, too. I ordered the margherita flatbread; it was really good, in large part because it included a luscious, thick layer of cheese. My husband had the parmesan walleye dinner, which he really enjoyed. I think the only nitpick I can offer is that the high-ceilinged environment was rather loud, even though it wasn't packed with people (though it was sure starting to fill up as we left). I was glad that I could sit next to my husband at our table so that we could talk. We were left with a high impression of the delicious food and the kind service. We'd definitely eat here again.

That's a risk, given that the Mayo Clinic is the primary reason anyone is in Rochester, Minnesota. With all the ailments on display in the city, a visitor pushing that bookcase could drop dead on the spot, and the lawsuit would put Bitter and Pour out of business. I almost broke the damn thing pushing and pulling. Bitter and Pour has all top-shelf liquor, and their cocktail list sounds fascinating. The mixologists are well-trained. Our bartenders on a Wednesday afternoon in September were professional, but they lacked the warmth I encountered everywhere else in this city. Our drinks were great, though, and B & P must be the best cocktail lounge in Rochester. I wish they served some small bites, but that's not their thing.

Searching the immediate area I see Rooster' Barn and Grill. The menu seems to have a lot of variety, sandwiches, wraps, appetizers, desserts and almost anything deep fried. We decided to check it out. It is very centered around a bar, with a sign, Nobody under 21 after 10 pm. There are pool tables, and there are large tables for groups. They definitely are open to family casual dining, though. We sat at a regular table near the bar, of course. The three of us ordered a wrap with sweet potato tots (very tasty), and Po' Boy (fried shrimp, coleslaw and cheese, with a spicy mayo on a hoagie bun) and onion rings, and a French dip sandwich with French fries. My wife drank raspberry tea, I had the house root beer and our son drank Dr Pepper. For dessert we split a piece of 3-layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and drizzled chocolate syrup. The chicken wrap was the club wrap and the sweet potato tots were a surprisingly good side. The raspberry ice tea was okay, but my wife said it tasted like it was fresh brewed tea that was getting near the end of it's "use by" time. (I have worked in professional kitchens, and if you use a fresh tea, we usually tossed it after a couple of hours). My Po'Boy was good and the onion rings were the best kind, battered and cooked to easily bite through them. The house root beer tasted a little weak to me. The French dip tasted good, and looked like a Philly that had the vegetables left off. My son's comment is, for a French dip he thought it would be different bread. And he did have to remind the server to bring the au just. The cake was good and we split it 3 ways. The agreement was, chocolate syrup is something that can be added to almost anything and it is good. With carrot cake, it seemed odd, and either could be omitted or, as my son who works in a similar restaurant in Omaha said, he would put caramel sauce over it. We went searching for variety, casual and budget friendly and they are at Rooster's.

There may be other influences but those 3 in general cover a lot of styles, each on their own! My person and I shared 2 appetizers. We had Crunchy Wontons with birria (slow roasted beef in a red broth that is then shredded - similar to an American pulled pork in consistency). They had a layer of creamy coleslaw slaw dressing and a layer of corn salsa between the meet and the wonton. Since these were open-faced wantons this was important to keep the balance of each each Wonton 's flavors just right. Oh! The red sauce the meat was in was Kung-Fi Sauce. It was very flavored so in that sense spicy and for me any more of whatever brought the heat might be too much, but this certainly was Master sauce. Steak Fries was the other appetizer. A play on words. French Fries ... extra long, well fried to hold up to the steak toppings and not at all oily. In addition to steak there was guacamole, and another sauce. Huh, I was so dazzled by the excellent steak I can't think of the other ingredients beyond guacamole.. I did end up using a fork to make sure that I got everything onboard the fries But they supplied the forks. I stayed at the Homewood Suites and ordered delivery through Grub Hub.
