Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Ordered off the lunch menu but pleased to see breakfast is available until 1 on Saturdays. They were fairly busy, not unexpected; the place always looks crowded when we drive by on our way to Costco. We ordered the queso appetizer, beer battered cod sandwich, honey lime shrimp salad, and fish tacos. Our server was very helpful with the ordering process as we had some questions about the seasonings (sharing food with kids/babies). Food came out in a timely fashion staring with the app. It was impressively served with more than enough seasoned tortilla chips and was enjoyed by all. There's a ton of chorizo but most of it was on the bottom so stir everything up before eating for Best results. This would be great for a larger group (we had three people) because there was plenty! Would definitely order it again. Shrimp salad was large and came with three big shrimp. I'm not sure how I feel about that, the three shrimp. Made it kind of hard to share a taste with others but it didn't seem to be short on shrimp when all was said and done, I wouldn't complain if there were more though, you kind of have to ration the shrimp or you'll be left with just the lettuce. There is quinoa mixed in so you're still getting a good protein dose. The dressing was tasty but not memorable. Would probably not order this again until I've had a chance to try everything else on the menu. Fish tacos came served with black beans and rice. They were lukewarm when they got to the table, almost cold so I was confused about what temperature they were actually supposed to be. I was feeding them to my baby so I didn't mind the lack of warmth but I probably wouldn't have enjoyed them as a side. The fish was blackened and served with a spicy aioli so the tacos were pretty zingy and tasty. My only complaint about about the tacos themselves is they were a bit too salty. I'd order again in a pinch, with a different side. Cod sandwich was the winner. I could smell the beer before I made mouth contact, the temperature was perfectly steamy beneath the crisp beer batter, and the toppings and condiments complimented while not overwhelming. It was served with garlic fries that were enjoyed by all. Would certainly order this again, I think all three of us agree on that. The service was great with the exception being that drinks were not refilled until requested (and empty). We will be back, and that's something we don't say much in this city. read more

Delish!!! Went for brunch while visiting with friends n family and discovered this little gem! Called at 8:30am on a sat. morn for 9am resv. n she said "We are kinda book this morning. How many in your party?" I said "10" and all of a sudden "I think we can squeeze you in." Got there and half the place was empty! Go figure...??????? With 10 ppl we got to taste several diff dishes but I must say that mine by far was the best!!! Pork belly omelette!!!! Big chunks of pork belly with grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms. I got the pepper jack cheese sauce on the side!!! So glad cuz I wasn't a fan of it. We also got a s'mores waffle for the table and the kids really liked that. Biscuits n gravy...thin but taste gravy n the biscuits were very petite but flakey n full of flavor! Corned beef hash is not your normal hash. Big chunks of corned beef (not minced) with tons of big chunks of veggies n eggs your way. NY stripe n eggs...ordered med rare but came a little more on the rare side. Our server Jake was fantastic!!! Would have loved to go back n try more off the menu but we were leaving that afternoon. But if ever in Rochester MN again, we will bed be back! read more

Five West - Smoked pork belly omelette with onions, peppers and mushrooms!!!!!!! Washed down with a Bloody Mary!!!! - New American Near Me - Rochester, Minnesota

Love to come here for brunch. Service is good and fast. Place is clean. Food is good and generous portion sizes.

Good food - good service. They treat their 4 legged guest well too! Went for dinner and brunch

Everything we had this evening was awesome!!! We have been here several times while visiting the Mayo Clinic. Our go to place!!!

I went here for Thanksgiving last week and I also went here for a birthday party the week prior to this. I was very pleased by how nice the staff was and accommodating. The drinks are really good and I like the atmosphere. The bar area looks sleek as well. The steak dinner with pasta is good but a very large portion just FYI. I would definitely like to come back here. Parking isn't hard either read more

Service and food is always great. Both breakfast and dinner have a nice variety to choose from.

Service and atmosphere 10/10. Yezi was our server she did awesome. We hated the nachos and she took care of it right away read more

Five West - Soup was 10/10. Fries are always good! Thought we would try nachos instead of buffalo chicken wontons, will never do that again. - New American Near Me - Rochester, Minnesota

We had carryout-- mine was spicy shrimp tacos and a side of garlic fries, husband ordered marghareta flatbread and size of sweet potato fries. They left off my fries but the manager brought a fresh order of fries to me at our hotel less than ten mins after I called. Delicious food! Loved the garlic aioli that came w my fries! read more

I was afraid this place was a little too far to make it worthwhile, but we ended up making the trip four times during our last visit to the clinic. We love their dinners, we love their patio, and we also found out we love their breakfasts! Here's a tip...they do oatmeal, but it's not on the menu. You just need to ask for it, and if the waitress doesn't know it's available, just keep asking. We have had a taste of nearly everything on the menu, and we have not had anything that we did not like. It is not over-seasoned, or over cooked. It tastes fresh, and cooked when you order. read more

I have been to 5West 2x this week and I just have to say the server Nicki was absolutely amazing! Always a smile on her face, anticipation of our needs and very accommodating, overall one of the best servers I have ever had!! The food was great as well as ambiance but what makes or breaks a restaurant in the service and she was exceptional!! Thank you Nicki for being so awesome!! read more

You know, I just returned to see if the owner/mgr had responded to my post and in fact he did, with the same rather "canned" response I note is on the other low star reviews. And not one time was a customer offered a refund, a credit for another visit, nada. The complaints seem to be the same across the board, so obviously it's not a priority to be taken care of, and since it's not hitting you in your pocketbook, you'll continue along the same road. In these days of high inflation and everything killing us, spending $120 for dinner is a VERY rare occurrence for our family and probably for most others as well. A little refund or % off if we come back for another try would mean something. As it is, your canned responses do not. read more

Everything about this experience was amazing. I highly recommend, it's a seattle vibe in Mn.

You say you have vegan options but don't have any nondairy options for my coffee and have very little that I can order for breakfast. I recommended even simply adding a baked oatmeal but haven't seen it yet. read more

Amazing food. Awesome service. Feels like the place to be in rochester mn. Go all the time.

Food is awesome, Amber our server is the best, she is amazing at details. I'm picky, my food came exactly how I asked for it!!!

In some ways, this can be called The Loop West because of the common owners and many menu items. But Five West has its own charms and is fantastically located for those living or working a bit outside of the downtown area (or like to frequent Costco - e.g. me). The set up within Five West is pretty odd, with a row of booths along the middle and tables elsewhere. As others have mentioned, it is quite loud too. They wait system using the pagers is pretty convenient but their estimates for wait time are way off. I've been here twice now, the first time about 2 weeks after opening and once more recently after the dust has settled. The difference in quality of service was tremendous so I feel like their current score is heavily weighted towards the initial opening experience, which I was not a fan either. My first experience was with their Wood Roasted Pork Chop, an excellently portioned fall-off-the-bone masterpiece that was among the juiciest pork chops I've ever had. The turn-around time for this was probably close to 40 minutes so the wait was quite long. I was a little disappointed about them skimping out on the delicious potatoes though. Price for what you get though, is very high. My second experience was just for drinks and appetizers, including an excellent herb roasted chicken nacho, buffalo chicken wontons, fried calamari, and their smoked pork belly tacos. These were all reasonably tasty although I'd say my favorites were the chicken nachos and tacos. Portion size for these were somewhat a problem given their prices (most are more expensive than entrees at other restaurants). They'll need to re-adjust their pricing to be in line with comparable options in Rochester because these are astronomical in comparison. That won't keep me from coming back though... read more

This place is fantastic. I hardly ever leave reviews but I went to yelp to see what anyone could possibly say bad about the place. I was shocked to see an overall 4/5. Let's talk service 10/5! Yes 10, and this was a busy Friday lunch hour. Tyra was bolstered flawlessly by all the minions behind the scenes. Drinks came almost immediately. Had the Five West Burger, medium with regular fries. Shared it with my girl. The burger was cooked exactly as requested. The 'regular' fries were phenomenal. Again minions brought it out almost immediately. I scanned what others were eating and the potato crusted walleye looked awesome. Everyone's food looked perfect. One reviewer said something tasted like it came from a microwave. I call complete bs on that. There is no possibility that anything I saw here came out of a microwave. read more

Great ambience inside and a fabulously spacious outdoor patio. They were able to accommodate our group of 25 in a private room for a family lunch after a funeral. The server was kind and attentive. The steak salad was very good. They provide generous portions. read more

Had excellent service today on the patio. The fried chicken lettuce wraps and steak salad were amazing. Drinks are always great here too.

Great addition to the Rochester restaurant scene! I will definitely be back. I've tried a few of their dinner offerings. Absolutely LOVE the Pumpkin Crusted Walleye!! Food overall has been good, the only thing that I didn't really care for was the chicken bacon pizza. They piled almost all of the chicken/bacon on the very center, so there were multiple pieces that only had pesto & cheese. The pieces that actually had meat were good, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Ambiance is nice, I've enjoyed the live music both times (not sure if that's a weekend evening thing or everyday). I've heard great things about their patio - will definitely have to try that out! Service has always been pleasant and attentive, although almost borderline overly enthusiastic, which isn't necessarily bad. Location is great. Although there is ample parking, the lot is kind of cramped - especially if you drive a medium to large truck/SUV (there are only a couple of rows I'd feel comfortable parking in without being afraid of hitting other vehicles). read more

I've been coming to Five West for a few years when I'm in town for work. Typically very good food, though a little on the pricey side. Their sandwiches and burgers are awesome, as well as pizzas. Skip the entree of Fish Tacos, for $20 I was expecting something awesome. Instead it was three tacos where the almost all the flavor came from the spicey cream drizzled over the slivers of fish and bland slaw, with a side of "cilantro lime rice" that was flavorless and overcooked. Again, great restaurant, other than one dish I've had from them! read more

Atmosphere: very nice decor and array of televisions. Feels like the loop inside with its modern loft style. Service: wait staff were very attentive. Although we were only drinking water, she refilled our glasses many many times during the meal. She got our orders correct and when I didn't eat much of the burger she took the initiative to remove it from our bill. She boxed the leftovers for us. She did not leave anything more to ask of her. What we ate: Buffalo chicken wontons - stylish presentation. The cream cheese filling was warm and melted, the wonton crunchy with very nice texture and taste, the chicken was unseasoned and slightly dry. The sauce tastes like franks hot sauce. The overall effect was very tasty and I would be happy to eat them again. read more

Restaurant and lemonade was really good, service was okay but the biggest complaint I have is they took away the best meal from their menu, the breakfast lasagna. It was amazing and the only reason I go there, so I've taken my business elsewhere read more

My boyfriend and I were in town, so we decided to stop by here. This place has a beautiful interior! The view was beautiful too! I ordered a turkey sandwich and he ordered a burger with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were super crunchy and not overly greasy, so I practically ended up almost finishing all of his fries. Everyone was super friendly here. I wouldn't drive out of my way to come here, but if you're in the area I'd try it out! read more

Went to Five West for the first time with a big group. We had reservations and all our requests were honored. The staff is great! Super attentive without interrupting our conversations. The ambience is the regular sports bar, but still very open and clean. I had the fish tacos, they were really good. Very spicy and with an amazing crunch from the greens. Also had the sweet potato fries, which were perfectly cooked: crispy outside and soft in the inside. Got 4 solid stars. Nothing outstanding about it, but still great food and good ambience. read more

I'd heard a lot about the brunch here so finally decided to come check it out. This place is clearly popular on weekends but they have plenty of seating. The ambience and decor inside is quite nice and very open, and there's a variety of seating options (booths next to some big-screen TVs that would be great for sports watching, long tables, even outdoor patio when it's warmer). Their brunch runs until 1:30pm on weekends and everything is pretty much $10 or less. I ended up getting the eggs benedict with salmon, which was well done but nothing particularly remarkable. At least the eggs were poached well. My friend got the corned beef hash and the portions were huge. I think next time I would try something more unique like the stuffed french toast or breakfast pizza. Overall decent place for brunch! read more

I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. The food is delicious- they have the best garlic fries! We love coming here for brunch with the family or a night away from kids, it's always a treat! read more

Brunch is good! Lunch/dinner is good but way too overpriced which I don't think it's worth the money I'm paying for. I feel like I'm just paying for the atmosphere which is quite nice. I also feel like some of their dishes are something you can make at home. I had their salmon once and it was so poorly seasoned with no taste, like they only steamed it and served to you. I order a steak with my pasta once and it was very obvious the steak was cheap by the taste. read more

This place is so good that we go every time we're in town for appointments at Mayo. I've had their spinach artichoke dip, wontons, pizza, burgers, ribs, soup, desserts and many other things I don't remember. It's so well flavored that I've never needed to put salt or pepper on them. I have no idea why their score isn't 5 stars. Check it out yourself - you will not be disappointed! read more

Good service and good food. The Smores Belgium waffle is sinfully good and opinions from the rest of my table suggested the veggie scramble, the French toast and the ham and cheese omelette were delicious as well. Wasn't a huge fan of the turkey sausage but it's a side so you can survive without it. Outdoor seating next to a pond space creates a pleasant ambiance. Worth the visit. read more

Bit too generous on the sweet sauces. Had the walleye tonight and it was flavorless. Total bill for two meals with drinks was $70 dollars.

Unbelievably good. The drinks were fantastic, appetizers were on point, and the short rib was out of this world. The service was perfect. There was always someone around if I had a question but I never felt like someone was hovering around. I could not speak higher of this establishment. read more

A great restaurant with good views, vibe, and food. The service was great. Our waitress Heidi was exceptional! She was attendant and very sweet. The food was amazing! We had the poppy salad, honey lime shrimp salad, and the shrimp tacos. One disappointment was that the taco entree only came with two tacos when we're used to getting three but that's no biggy. The frozen spiked lemonade was very tasty. We are very happy with our experience at Five West. read more

Let's call Five West what it is: The Loop North. The menu and variations of the dish are quite similar and I hear from my friends who are regulars that brunch is the meal of choice. Saying that, I recently went for dinner and enjoyed my experience a bit more than my typical trip to The Loop. For starters, the atmosphere has the same modern and cool feel, with white subway tiles and concrete floors, but the space is much larger and it has a massive fireplace right in the center of the restaurant. Upon entering, I was greeted and immediately offered a seat. We asked to go to the bar before and were obliged. I have a fabulous pear cocktail and my husband had the best old fashioned he has ever had. That says a lot. When we finished we were brought to our table where we were promptly waited on by a very professional staff member. For an appetizer we ordered the meatballs. They were fabulous and I highly recommend. We both ordered starter salads, which were basically beds of lettuce with a few croutons. Not worth ordering again. Our mail courses were beautiful to the eye. My husband's short rib was massive with a dark caramelized color on the top. My salmon had an original spin to it, with siracha and pickled peppers surrounding it. Unformtulaty the mail courses end up not living up to the starter. The rib was very fatty and greasy and the salmon was way too spicy, to the point where all I tasted was siracha. We finally ordered berry sorbet for dessert. The shortbread cookie was undercooked, but the sorbet was tangy and finished the meal off nicely. Overall a good meal, but I think the kitchen needs to work on perfecting the main dinner courses. read more

Beware they charge you for extra nugget sauce!!! The grilled cheese and tomato soup appetizer was good. I do appreciate the chicken tenders were handmade or at least tasted like it. The steak fettuccine was good but could a little more flavor, very tender small piece of steak though. The club was a little flakey everywhere. It's decent food that we would probably come back again to eat. read more

Every month, our fantasy baseball group of 3-4 guys tries to hit a bar for food and drinks that we haven't been to before. Five West hit a homer powered by great food, friendly helpful bartenders and a nice atmosphere. I had the Spicy Pepperoni and Meatball pizza. Wonderful crust and the toppings of pepperoni, meatball, jalapeno, roasted red onion, peppers & red sauce were superb! Best pizza I've had in years! We sat at the bar and give a big shout out to our bartender, listed as 'bartender inside 2', kudos for friendly conversation and also helpful recommendations selecting our food. Her fellow female bartender was very good, too. This was on 05/01/2019. There was one guy behind the bar who reminded me of the character Spaulding Smails from the movie Caddy Shack. We'll be back and I'm anxious to try their salads! read more

Dirty. If you can't keep the front of house clean, where guests eat and sit, what does the kitchen look like? Stopped in due to great reviews on yelp and immediately detected an awful burnt plastic smell. Ignored it and was seated in a filthy booth. (See pictures). After our meals arrived we discovered a thick layer of oil over everything. Eggs, hash browns, English muffin all soaked in oil. Really just gross. Staff was super friendly which is the only reason for two stars. read more
