Strangest experience with a small business owner. Called to schedule a tow. He answered "yeah" which was weird. I asked if I could book a tow and he said could I call him back he didn't have time to talk. Called back the next day and he took my info and again asked if I could call him back. Obviously I went with another company and when he called ME 3 hours later I said I went with someone else. Just strange and unprofessional. read more

My wife and I were traveling back from a trip on our motorcycle when we had a rear tire blowout. We called AAA and they said they don't do tows for motorcycles. We called 5-Star Towing directly and Mark (owner) came out and loaded our motorcycle on his flatbed trailer and brought us home. He was very polite and helped us with this unusual tow, even know he was spending time with his wife on their anniversary. read more

Two stars for the nice driver- but the owner needs a vacation-poor possibly vengeful customer service. We ordered a tow at 9:30AM, told it would come at 10:30-11am. We had just upgraded our AAA membership that morning to a PLUS account (100 miles of towing) because we were in a pickle and 85 miles from home and the local auto service center could not fix our car. The 48hr wait period was waived for us via AAA.. The tow showed up at 11AM , but then the driver was told to refuse us because his notes showed us as having a non PLUS membership and he thought we were scamming the upgrade. He refused to believe that we had negotiated the waiver of the 48hr waiting period. And it was true that the upgrade had not been confirmed on their side, but we had AAA on the phone confirming-it was just a communication glitch that required a few minutes to resolve. The owner refused to negotiate unless we paid him 400. cash. Apparently they get screwed a lot when regular members use their friend's PLUS accounts but here we were, legitimate PLUS members just trying to get home. And yes, our upgrade was just going through but that does not give them permission to treat us like scammers. After we confirmed our status with them , he said we'd get a tow at 3PM. However, at 1PM we saw the same tow truck and same driver hanging out at a hardware shop 2 blocks from our dead car- he said he was on duty but not dispatched! What is wrong with this picture? Just before 4Pm our tow finally arrived. . The actual ride back was nice, and the driver told us the owner can be mean when he is in a bad mood. Apparently, if you are a AAA plus member, the company doesn't make as much money so you become low priority. Not good politics. Also, he is suspicious of getting scammed-clearly! Now for those of you that don't know, Middletown is just outside of Harbin Hot-springs where our car died. (we had it towed to a local garage in town first round) We thinks the owner is in dire need of a long soak! And note to all: get the PLUS AAA membership if your car has more than 100K on it and you plan on traveling more than 5 miles from any qualified service center. read more

Chris had bent over backwards to offer me the tow home i needed. I am a AAA Plus member.... Fine points of a great tow company - F L A T B E D T R U C K - 24/7 service - willing to drive heck and high water (but be sure to reimburse him for any rode/bridge tolls) - super nice - fast - towed my car at least 105 miles. if I ever get stuck again and in the area... 5 Star has given us great service every time. We have been AAA members for 20+ years, many tows over the years. 5 Star is topnotch :-}

When my husband and I skidded on some black ice on Hwy 29 last winter, our van lost all traction, spun out of control and went off the hiway into a flooded pasture. Thankfully we were both ok, expect bumps and bruises. The van, however, did not fare so well as it had been momentarily airborne, gone thru a barbed wire fence and the rear wheels were stuck in wet mud. This accident happened late afternoon during a cold driving rainstorm. I have a Premier AAA card and called them right away. Because of the storm & the deep mud in the flooded pasture we had landed in, we were trapped inside the van, It took more than two hours for a truck from 5 Star to show up even though we were stranded only 7 miles from their garage. Upon arrival the driver, dressed in rain gear and boots assessed the situation from the road. made no effort to speak to myself or my husband, stomped off to speak with the CHP who was waiting nearby, He finally came back within shouting distance. I rolled down my window to shout to him and he shouted back rudely that he wasnt touching it as he would have to walk in the mud to attach chains to the rear wheels and besides that he informed me AAA would not pay for the tow or the "additional labor" because the vehicle was more than 16 feet from the roadway. In fact we were only 7 or 8 feet from the hiway. Still scowling and shouting he said when he got back to Five Star he would send a different driver with another kind of truck to pull us out (in another 2 and a half hours?) and we would have to pay up front with cash or credit card. We had neither. My husband was already on the phone with AAA before this jerk finished yelling at me. My husband yelled to the driver who was heading for his tow truck that he better not leave as AAA told him they certainly would cover the cost of the tow and whatever was involved in pulling us out of the ditch and they were already calling 5 Star to ensure we were properly taken care. After confirming this himself the grumpy rude driver did in fact pull our vehicle out, never saying a word to either of us and we had to almost run to get in his tow truck for the short ride to town. Again he said nothing at all except "Sign here", scowling all the while. I have never encountered such rudeness and outright hostility from a person I did not know who was being paid to perform a service he was contracted for. Yes it was a cold rainy day and a messy muddy job...but most towtruck drivers are aware that these are the situations one encounters in this business. I did follow up with a complaint to AAA, and hope they have dropped this obstinate, unfriendly tow company from their roster. Thursday night while on a trip home from a volleyball match I locked the keys in the school van. I called 5 Star, the helpful women on phone sent a super friendly guy out to help. He was there promptly and helped calm my nervousness and frustrations. He quickly unlocked the door and got my crew on our way. I was so upset I forgot his name but he was awesome. I am a woman alone on the side of a highway. I have been waiting 5 hours for a tow. My insurance company calls these guys who are only 10 minutes away, and only have to take me 10 more minutes further. They refused, even arguing with the insurance company. Forcing the company to get me a tow company in Santa Rosa an hour or more away. I think it is inhuman and cruel. They think they hold all the cars because I can't I can't do anything about it, so they don't have to care about people. Just about themselves. I I wonder how they would feel if their mother, or sister, or daughter was stranded and it was dark out. How much would they appreciate that kind of cruelty. I'd give them negative stars if I could. read more

Unfortunately, there are some businesses that will fare well on the misery of others. My car, recovered from a looter in the mandatory evacuation zone of the Valley Fire was towed by 5-Star late on the night of Sep 17. On Saturday the Sheriff's office let me know my Jeep was at 5-Star. On the 20th Hwy 29 to Middletown was opened. I called and Marc gave me my bad news that $500 cash would get my Jeep back, and that was with a discount and a fee waiver. Many, many people are still suffering terribly, and I am very grateful to the Sheriffs office for recovering my Jeep, but I am truly sorry they had to use 5-Star for this tow service. At $70 a day for their 10x10 asphalt space and $280 tow fee I feel violated in a way the looter was unable to accomplish. I hope this business has since found room in its heart to do a little bit more for victims of this Valley Fire. read more

These guys are lazy, insulting scam artists! They showed up to get me to fill out the AAA paperwork then promptly left without a single attempt at removing my vehicle from the mud patch it was stuck in. Not only that, the driver insulted me and my home before he ducked out! This isn't the first time five star has disappointed. The drivers are never friendly, always show up late and complain the entire time. I will NEVER use five star again! read more

These folks are a disgrace representing CSAA. I called for a tow of my car yesterday for this morning. I live on a county maintained road. When the driver arrived he stated that he will not tow me because he might get stuck. Dozens of cars are on this road daily but since there is a short section that is not paved he would not tow, oh also because there was a 6' section of a road base driveway at the road that had standing water and was soggy as he walked. What a joke, this clown has no idea. So in a driving rain I jumpstarted my vehicle and drove it 200 yards to a paved section of the road so their fair weather driver could get access without getting wet or a little dirty and walked home. Now Enterprise Towing is coming to tow my vehicle. Never use 5 star towing unless it's your last choice. Crappy attitude on the clown driver, no follow up from the office. I hope my complaint to CSAA will pull their contract. read more
