Terrible from beginning to end. Animal cruelty and horrible customer service. I booked two hours before my appointment for myself and another person. Nowhere on the mobile website does it say to arrive 30 minutes early. I called when I got the confirmation email that states we had to be there 30 minutes early (12:30). I was traveling from an hour away and said we would be there at 12:45. They said they couldn't accommodate because they set people up with saddles, etc. I asked for money back bc it didn't state it on the website. First employee was short and said "it's stated in 4 places on the website." She hung up on me and I combed the website on my phone for this info. Nothing. I called back again and asked if we could do a later ride. I asked a different employee to tell me where on the website this info was. I could hear her slamming her fingers on the keyboard out of frustration and she was very rude during the call. We reschedule for 4:00 instead of 1:00. We arrived at 3:15 and they didn't even call us to get to the horses until 3:57. We could have made our original appointment on these timelines. I got on my horse and they gave me instructions to kick his sides because "he's lazy" This poor old horse was sliding down the hill, his joints buckling beneath him. At one point he nearly fell. It was very scary. When I brought it to the guide's attention and said I felt unsafe riding he told me I couldn't get off the horse because "of insurance reasons". He assured me the rest of the ride wasn't as steep, but the horse did slide again and he seemed to be out of breath. I told the guide he was limping and he said "no he's not, I'm watching him." I was all the way at the end and I could FEEL him struggling to take steps. I could feel the limp on his left side. It felt horrendous to be 200 pounds on top of this animal struggling to walk up and down these hills while I felt his joints buckling at times. In a conversation between my stepmom and the guide asking if it was busy he said "no, it hasn't been at all." But the 11:00 ride was sold out, as well as the 2:00 and 3:00. Seems like these horses are overworked. This horse was too old to be performing these tasks. He limped, slid, and breathed heavily. I was scared the entire ride. The stables where they kept the horses were TINY. A horrible life for these beautiful creatures. I felt like an awful person supporting this business. I wanted my family to take my niece here but it's unsafe.

    Our amazing guide.

Had a great time with our guide. He took great care of us. Beautiful ride in great Tennessee.. I highly recommend this place. Ignore the ignorant bad reviews they do not tell a true story about this place. They were very friendly and helpful. The horses are not neglected, rather well fed and cared for. The first thing I did was check out the horses,, especially their feet. They were in great shape.. after a hard day's work, they are turned out onto the 80plus acres to roam and graze. Thank you again.

Came here for the first time and had a great experience. Well organized, horses are trained very well, since trail ride. Our tour guide was great and friendly. Recommend: group photos before or after. Photos are taken quickly as soon as you end the trail someone is waiting and snaps the photo Thank you

This place was very good! All the staff was really nice! The horses was well behaved, my trail guide Jon was nice, and I was on one of the slowest horses Penny, but she kept up really good ! Jon ( The trail guide) would stop everyone and check if people where good and stuff and that was nice also at the Beginning and the end of the trail ride Jon help you get on and off , and the horses listen good. Also if you have kids the horses are really good with kids. I can't wait to go back their and ride horses again! ( Also my Mom took the pics)

Took a group of seniors on a senior class trip riding. They accommodated our group easily. The guides were awesome making sure everyone was doing ok and having a good time. Riders mount and dismount from a platform making it easy for everyone. The ride took us on beautiful scenic trails on the mountain and lasted about an hour. Had a great time!

Looked like a great stable online. Just wasn't satisfied with the tour guide, not very talkative compared to other trails I've been on at other riding stables. But I had a nice horse named Maverick. He was very lazy and I kept getting behind. Wish there was a tour guide at the back also just for safety precautions.

Update from today's ride: Our guide Logan was great and very attentive to the riders and checked on us at the back of the group a lot to make sure we were all doing ok. However the lady on the front desk today was quite rude and is the first negative employee I've encountered there. She didn't greet anyone, no smile, and was rude to us when we came to check in. As good as the guides are there and they really are wonderful, this lady behind the desk should not be in customer service and we will be looking elsewhere for our next ride. There is no excuse for rudeness or lack of manners that early in the morning. November 2018 - We went this morning on a noon ride, nice trail ride for riders with any experience level. Our guide Jess was great! She made the ride very entertaining with her sense of humor and chatting. My daughter and I were on Dumb Dumb and my husband rode Red. Very sweet horses and some of their horses are rescues which was awesome to hear!! Loved the ride and will definitely go again next time we are up this way.

This is as close as you can get to tame/wild animals that we have every found. Now with the rain you would think it would not be good to do. However not alot of people came so we had it almost to ourselves. Just were a water resistant jacket and good foot wear and your good to go. The paths inside are gravel and only on a few areas was the dirt exposed on the main trails. Inside the pens is a different story of course because the animals are in there. We were able to feed them by hand of either pellets and corn or slices of apples. Whole apples were like 50 cents a piece and a small cup of feed was 2.50. Very cheap in my opinion for how much feeding you can do with one cup. We started with one small cup (which you get to keep plastic cup as souvenir) and 5 apples. They gave us a bag for the apples so you don't have to hold in your hand loose. My wide was floored at how much fun she had feeding all the animals and so was I. We loved it and will be back. The have the following animals there: large bunnies, goats, ostriches, reindeer, fallow deer, elk, highland cows, small ponies, donkeys, pigs, pheasant, camels, and so much more. A must go for us.

My wife and I have been together for 24 years. In that time we've gone horseback riding 3 times,…read moretwo of which have been here in Pigeon Forge. Our most recent excursion @ Goldrush Stables and the other @ Big Rock Dude Ranch. Naturally, I can't help making comparisons between the two. Simply put, after this experience we've come to the conclusion we really don't like riding horses, even though we love them! It's just not for us, but we are so glad for all the opportunities. . [ THE RIDE ] We arrived 15 minutes early as requested by the stables to sign waivers and prep for the ride. Our trail guides were saddling several horses as we watched from outside the fence. Once ready, we were summoned to the mounting platform, which makes it much easier for beginners like us. Because COVID-19 has given me a little extra girth, I was given one of the larger horses named Blondie, while my wife rode Fanny. It was Blondie's first ride in weeks (they tend to rest their horses for long periods), so she proved to be rather eager on the trail. Fanny, as my wife soon discovered, doesn't like to get her feet wet. Once all the riders were mounted & instructed, we walked across a wooden bridge to a field and began our ride. Normally the ride would begin by walking the horses through the creek, but rain from the night before had water levels up, so we bypassed it via the bridge. We also bypassed another creek walk further down the trail, which was disappointing since it was one of the main reasons we chose this stable over Big Rock. It was one of the best selling points. We then arrived at a smaller, more narrow creek crossing that both Blondie and Fanny decided to jump, startling both me & my wife. Immediately after the creek the terrain goes uphill, which my horse decided to run. She headed straight into some low-lying branches, almost knocking me off. Her eagerness caused her to not listen very well when pulling back on her reigns and my inexperience handling her didn't help. My wife's horse ran her knee into a tree just after jumping the small creek, so clearly we were having a few issues! LOL Our guides yelled out after my wife's accident "steer your horses", but even after 3-minutes of instruction it's hard to do that properly when the horse seems to have other plans. At this point the trail follows a path into the woods and up and down a fairly good-sized hill. On a dry day I think this would have been a very pleasant ride, but because the trail was muddy, my particular horse kept sliding... BADLY, like something you'd see in a cartoon! It was very nerve racking and made it difficult to relax and enjoy the experience. In truth, I felt sorry for my horse. She was seriously soaked in sweat by mid ride and seemed to walk under every low branch along the way! I believe she was intentionally trying to get me off her back, fo'realz... hahaha! Poor thing. My wife remained frazzled most of the ride as she wrestled with her own fears of not feeling in control. At midpoint the trail loops back into itself and we follow the same path back to the beginning. . [ THE VERDICT ] We learned something about ourselves that I suppose we've always known. Some of the experiences we've had were greatly enhanced because of the joy we felt showing our children how to live life. We did so many things in the name of giving them great memories and now we must reprogram to pursue our own like as a couple, not just as parents. We thought we would enjoy the more open fields & smaller slopes @ Goldrush versus the mountainous trail @ Big Rock, and probably would have if not for the muddy conditions. That being said, the ride time was far shorter and there is little else to do here. Overall we felt like Big Rock was the better value. So why 4 stars you ask? Well, for one I believe most of our dislikes for this ride were either OPERATOR ERROR or just conditions that couldn't be helped. It's just the luck of the draw when dealing with nature. Secondly, I think despite the shortness of the trail, it is perfect for beginners and families with children old enough to ride on their own. [ NOTE TO OWNERS ] I would like to suggest regularly trimming low lying branches along the trail, adding colorful signage reminding riders to watch their knees in at least TWO critical areas and/or add a guide rail to deter the horses from walking so close. Most of us city folk just don't know how to handle a horse!!! Also, since the trail is short and most people these days love photo opportunities, why not build a second mounting/dismounting platform at the top of the hill where riders can have a chance to pause & take pics on or beside their horses. I personally think this would go a long way in improving the experience. TIP WHEN PLANNING A VISIT: Currently they do not allow doubles, so smaller children or kids fearful of riding alone cannot ride (unlike Big Rock which allows small children to ride with parents). ENJOY 2020 / 71
