The Davy Crockett Horse back riding stables is such a nice place. The horses are so cute and nice, the tor Gide's are really nice and helpful. My horse was named Sheba. The rid has some hills but the horses do not make you fall off. At the end of your ride before you get off your horse they will ask for your phone to take a really nice picture of you and if you are with someone they will take a picture of you and them. Reading the reviews we decided to come here. We did not stay long, the "petting zoo" is a collection of caged animals and not very many. They don't look very taken care of and it was sad to watch. We couldn't do the riding part anyway after one in our party was weighed on a scale in the store where the person working there announced to all within hearing distance about weight restrictions. It was uncomfortable and awkward I could not wait to leave. We found a better location and salvaged our day. Won't be returning ever. read more

The last two years our family has come up to gatlinburg we usually go to Sugarlands riding stables but for many reasons we decided to look somewhere new. We went tubing at River Rat in Townsend a few days before and loved the little town and it's much more quiet and slow pace than gatlinburg. We ended up reserving a ride the same day we called for 5 people and we had an amazing 2 hour ride. One note, we took the 2 hour ride and if you're a novice, that's quite a bit of riding. My 9 year old daughter was really look forward to her first horseback ride when we visited Townsend. We planned on going while in Cades Code but they were closed. She was upset. I looked around and Davy Crockett was recommended. I called and made reservation for a 60 min ride at 4:30. I was told to arrive about 4:15. We got there about 4:00 so we had to wait a bit. All of the workers were very nice and answered the questions my kids had. They were a bit short at times but they were trying to get all of the groups on horses and on the trails. The horses were well behaved and the staffed worked to match the best horse up with the rider. My kids 9 and 12 (first time on a horse)had a wonderful trail ride through the woods. I had a wonderful time too. The trail guide took time to stop every so often to check on everyone. My son's horse decided to act up twice so the guide asked me if she could move him to the front of the line. After the ride, staff took time to take pictures of each group of people. It was well worth the money and I would high recommend Davy Crockett for a horse ride especially if you have inexperienced riders and/or kids. read more

The Horses were clean and sweet, and the staff almost equally as sweet. This is a place where they genuinely care for their animals, and for each other. Davy Crockett riding stables has the absolute best staff, volunteers, and horses. The people are kind, knowledgeable, and work with you to ensure the best experience! The horses are very well maintained and seem extremely healthy and happy! This stable was the nicest when I made the call to ask questions and make a reservation. I called many other places (competitors) in the area and this was the only place that didn't give me a bad taste with attitude, being short, and seemed like I was bothering them. Also, the only stable that took reservations to ensure I could ride! The trail ride itself was amazing. The guide made sure to talk to each and every one of us. Very personable and kind. If you had even the slightest issue with your horse or held back a little, they would help and give suggestions to get to the horse moving, and would stop the group so you could catch up, they'd also ask if you were having issues. No person left behind. The first time riders felt comfortable because the guide had no problem working with them and teaching them. They do everything they can to work with you, if it rains and you need to push out your reservation, they help make arrangements! Their volunteers get paid by tips, they usually full time jobs and work there when they're off to help! Make sure to bring a tip, they can do it on a card as well. In my opinion, they deserve every last cent I gave in my 20 dollar tip and then some. If you go to Davy Crockett riding stables, I promise you will not regret it!!! I couldn't recommend this place more. I'm a bigger guy and they had a big enough horse I could ride comfortably. Strawberry was a sweetheart as were most of the horses here. This is a great place to ride a horse in the "smoky mountains" or near the mountains This place is located in Townsend which is about 50 mins from pigeon forge, so good little drive, scenic drive and shops to stop at along the way, so well worth it to get away from the hustle of town. Once arriving on location, plenty of parking. We were not greeted, we actually had to find someone, which was a downer, this place needs more personal attention to their customers. I would say that was the only problem here....customer service not good. That is the only reason for 4 stars.....lacking personal customer service. Once finally getting some help from an employee, we started the process of signing a waiver.....they picked the horses out you are going to ride. I requested a Tennessee Walker which they made that happen which was awesome! I rode Pokémon a solid black Tennessee Walker, he was 9 yrs old I believe. He was a nice gelding, manners were pretty good, sure footed on the trail. No problems. Majority of their horses are 15 yrs or older. All are geldings. They have a several breeds which consist of quarter horses, helifingers, Tennessee Walkers. The horses are healthy, fat and appeared to be well took care of compared to other stables I checked out in the surrounding area. I rode for 2 hours and 30 mins. Which I'm an experienced rider so I had no problems at all....I just wanted to experience riding in the smoky mountains. The guides are good, they don't talk much but the horse experience makes up for it. My husband stayed behind and was entertained by the horses and the barn staff. It's $30 for one hour, $45 for 1 hr and half. Plus tax of course. They take reservations by phone which is highly recommended! All in all I would come back here to ride and highly recommend this place to anyone!!! Giddy Up!!!! read more

I went riding with them once and they were amazing, I tried to arrange a full day ride today and this woman went OFF on me. "We need atleast a weeks notice and we need to call help from all over and we have to trailer the horses and I need a week." Is it that hard to say, "I'm sorry, we can't offer this service at this time?" I tried to do a half day and she STILL went off on me, "No we're not doing half days, we're not even doing 2 hour rides, we're so busy we can't do that, what do you want?" She didn't give me options until I asked, was clearly VERY upset, and I'm just trying to get out and go horseback riding. It's so sad because I really liked my guide last time, and I was told before this is one of their slowest times. I was never told that they needed so much notice for a full day, I didn't want some magic-mystical-mountain hoopla. I just wanted a solid 4-6 hours of horseback riding, we could've done a mile loop and I would've been happy. We were also told they take horses through cases cove before, and she told me the horses can only walk through the trails; yet I've seen hoof prints from horses galloping through the trails. The hour and a half is barely enough time to get to know your horse, and you don't even get to bring your horse to a gallop, you're just walking them through the woods and dodging spider webs. There a lots of other options and I will not be recommending or going to Davy Crocketts ever again, it's not worth it. I was treated like an imbecile for asking a simple question. read more

I've done a lot of trail rides across the country, and I've come to appreciate the little things that make a ride better: sweet, well-taken care of horses, friendly, conscientious guides and comfortable stirrups. We found all of these things in spades at the Davy Crockett Stables. It's a family business and every person we met had a lot of love and pride in what they do. It's so refreshing to find a trail stable that will take the time to adjust the stirrups, make sure you're comfortable and happy. The trail itself was beautiful: emerald forests and sweeping meadows with a grand view of the Smokey Mountains. The guides were so kind, they offered to take our picture at the end of the ride. Loved everything about this ride. We'll definitely be back. If you're new to riding, and you're on the fence about trying it out--get off the fence and visit these guys. Staff were a bit disorganized and rude, they definitely weren't interested in teaching you how to ride a horse or explaining any horse riding techniques, which was disappointing because I was nervous about riding a horse to begin with. On top of that, we were put in the back of the group so we couldn't hear a thing the guide was saying while on the trail. I supposedly had one of the more stubborn horses, so I don't know why they put me all the way in the back, especially after I mentioned I have zero riding experience. Although the horse was stubborn, I still enjoyed riding him. We chose this place because their horses are friendly and clearly well taken care of compared to other stables in the area. If the staff would have explained some dos and donts before our ride I would give them 4 stars. Lastly, there aren't any great views while riding, at least not for the 1 hour trip. read more

My boyfriend and I have been here twice. One last August and again last month. I wish I could give more stars! Everyone there is awesome. We did the hour and half ride. Our horses were Redcloud and Whiskey and the lead horse was Ranger. You go through so much land in that time. We wanna try the half day next time we come. We decided to try for horseback riding mid-morning while staying in a rental cabin. Davy Crockett popped up only a couple of miles away with great reviews so we gave it a shot. Turned out to be a great choice. It was all very informal in a southern hospitality kind of way. We did a 11am 1.5 hour trip and we were saddled up and riding by 11:15. The route was woodsy, hilly and muddy with several pretty vistas after fairly steep climbs. Our guide, Jessica, kept up an informative chatter with a charming Southern twang in her voice. Our horses were well behaved, but definitely had their own personalities. We were back by 12:25 and had time to get photos taken of our little group. If you're on the peaceful side of the Smokies, definitely check them out. read more

We were in town on a family vacation with a large group. My daughter has autism and I was worried that she would have extreme sensory overload and wouldn't ride on her own. An employee offered to put her on a horse and lead her around the parking lot to see if she'd be comfortable. She did great! Our guide toted her horse behind him with a rope. she was content and loving it the entire hour we rode.
