For $80 an hour just for the simulator to say my 7 iron goes 130 and 3 iron goes 150 is not worth it. If I'm spending that much for a simulator, I would at least want the reading to be accurate. I played golf earlier the week and I know how far each iron is suppose to go. The club head speed reading for my buddy and I was all under 80, but the ball speed seemed accurate so there is something wrong with the system. read more

Five Iron was a nice experience. It's a bit like an elevated bowling alley. Pretty fun activity for a week night to grab a beer and hit some balls. I've gone with friends a few times already, and we've all really enjoyed it. (FYI, food was only okay.) They also have pros that give lessons. I took my first lesson with Charles and was surprised at how much I could improve with even one lesson. He pretty quickly identified some key improvements to my swing, grip and stance and we worked on each of them in succession. He had a nice coaching style and was explicit about trying to not change too much at once, which was helpful for me! I've gone here a few times during the day with friends and it's relaxed, modern, and a good place to spend a few hours, get some movement in, have a few drinks and play some golf, even when it's terrible out. I also had a lesson with Charles who was a bit of a miracle worker for me. He fixed my horrific driver slice in one lesson. He was approachable, talked me through good technique AND good practice habits so I can keep doing what I was doing outside of Five Iron. Honestly reviews from other people for Five Iron have made me a little more generous than I otherwise would've been. Clearly other people find this kind of experience more compelling than we did. Food here is average but it's also clearly not a spot to go for a great meal. Their artichoke dip is pretty bland and the pizza is Chuck-E-Cheese quality. The gaming setup itself is fine but one of the greatest things about golf is that you do it outside. Even for more gaming-like styles of golfing (like at Top Golf) you get that experience. There are a number of games you can play and the first one we tried was a "monster-hunting" game where you would "catch" 80+ unique "monsters" by hitting the appropriate spots with your ball. The most bizarre part was that it gave you targets but it kept giving the same ~10-15 so the only way to win seemed to be hitting randomly all over the screen and hoping you'd get a new one since you had no idea where they were. I personally didn't find this experience any more compelling that a PlayStation golfing game. It was definitely worth trying and I'm sure some people would enjoy it, but we got fairly bored of it quickly. read more

I received a great lesson from Alex Race. I am a 10 handicap. We worked with a 7 iron the whole time. The two main things he had me work on was my posture and angle of attack. I have an outside-in swing, creating a really intense draw sometimes (-12 degree). Alex is really good at finding the drill or phrasing that works to make small adjustments. What works for one person may not work for another, which he understands really well when running his lesson. In the end, we got the angle down to -4 degree, giving me a much more consistent shot. It is amazing to have the instant replays and stats. Fun environment too (damn good fries). read more

Lessons with Charles: Man, I wish they opened 4 years ago when I picked up golf. Just a short, 30-min lesson about headspace and set up had such a dramatic impact. I plan on coming back often to make sure I can turn these small, manageable tweaks into second nature. I'd highly recommend. As for the space - it's great. I come during the day and hit balls and work from the bay. It feels like a really cool WeWork or start up common space - upgraded to foosball. But at nights and on weekends it's a party. Went in with a group of friends one of the first nights it opened. We had a great time. The service was great and fast. Also had additional staff like golf pros to help out as well. They also provide nice new golf clubs to use. The simulator itself seemed to be right on distance-wise, and we didn't have any issues and it ran smoothly. I went to Greg to get fitted and he was great. He really went the extra mile to get me fitted into the right shaft and to make me more consistent with my swing. I also needed an adjustment with my putter and he did that quickly to get me in a better spot as well (it was slightly bent due to leaning on the putter around the greens). Charles Lee is an absolute magician. Some people are good at what they do, but it's another thing entirely to be a great coach. Over our first lesson, Charles was able to identify the thing that was causing me the most pain on the course and give me fixes and drills that helped me drop 5 strokes off of my handicap in 4 weeks. Came here on Saturday 2/19 and was shocked to see that you actually pay 20% gratuity for the price of renting the simulator hitting bay. For example, the price for 2 hours peak simulator rental was $130, but at the end you'll see you actually will pay $156 (they don't tell you this). Also, when I made the reservation online, it said the price for the bay was $110 (I have the confirmation email) but at the end when I went to pay they charged me $130 (before the 20% gratuity charge). I have no problem paying 20% gratuity on food and drink, but 20% gratuity for the price of the simulator rental is just absurd. My group felt somewhat scammed. Not to mention a pitcher of beer was $25. This place was a lot of fun and the simulators are great, but it's Disneyland prices. read more

Kind of a brutal experience. Planned my night around going, made a reservation, showed up a few minutes early, and they said my reservation was not in their system and they were booked up. I showed them my confirmation email, and they basically said not to trust the website and offered me a voucher for another visit. So call and double confirm your reservations if you plan on going. Still seems like a cool place, and I'll try back another time with the vouchers, but who doesn't have a functioning website in 2022? read more
