I stop in here maybe once a month when I'm in the area. This chain has elevated the simple burger and fries to the highest level. Pretty straightforward; burgers, cheeseburgers (and a couple other items), fries, shakes and drinks. All, all of the toppings you could possibly want, in the usual range of burger toppings. These are not gourmet burgers, these are great burgers! A little hiccup at the grill tonight, VERY unusual. Gwen, the manager, got everything back in line and made everything right. I'm not a big fan of Five Guys, but there are good and bad qualities to this restaurant. First the bad: How can you pay over $3 for a small serving of French Fries, albeit it is a large small serving. Related: how can you pay over $10 for a burger and fries at a fast food joint?! Secondly, how do you get their double burgers in your mouth--they're too big. Thirdly, how do you keep their burgers from disintegrating in your hands. Lastly, how can I tell them not to make BLTs with a hamburger bun--I expect toast. On the good side: those expensive fries are in fact very good. I am a fan of showering malt vinegar on fries (chips as our British cousins would say) and Five Guys provides it. And there are well over a dozen toppings to garnish your burger with, but watch out, too many toppings means burger fall apart in hands. read more

Don't go, you would expect five guys to be on there A game during this whole covid-19 thing, but they are not. I went to pick up order and got food which tasted average at best. Turned around to go out the door and what do I see but a mouse, yes MOUSE, I had to tell the workers how didn't seem to want to deal with it at all and just looks at it. Since Outback Steakhouse decided to retire the No Rules Burger, I needed to find a good replacement. I found it with 5 Guys. The burger is a standard double. Just about anything I can put on it, I did. I went past "All the Way" (MAYO, LETTUCE, PICKLES. TOMATOES. GRILLED ONIONS, GRILLED MUSHROOMS, KETCHUP, & MUSTARD). I added Raw ONIONS, JALAPENO PEPPERS, GREEN PEPPERS & HOT SAUCE). My only "complaint" is that the jalapenos are not pickled. I say a solid pick up for something fast. Service is good as well. Bacon cheeseburger is the way to go. The fries are a nice change of pace. Quick, fast, somewhat messy but is what it is. A safe 4-4 1/2 stars for me. Straight, no chaser. read more

Ok, hit the one in Crystal Lake a couple of days ago and the burger was very good, exceptional in fact. Tempted to bump up a star for the food quality. Once again, too expensive. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Shame on me. I ordered the exact same thing as last time and paid the same amount. I was thinking maybe I ordered a double and didn't remember. So I asked for the bacon cheese burger large fries and diet coke. Still 15 bucks and change. What? Looked at the receipt. FIVE bucks for a large fry. FIVE. I'm a true burger lover and "Five Guys Burgers and Fries" is one of my favorites. I like that they offer free peanuts while we wait for our food. The staff does a great job keeping things clean and really seems to have a team environment. I like that the music is playing and the cooks are singing along... The onions were raw, not grilled, there were 3 thin green pepper strips and if I had to guess 1 mushroom. Tables were dirty, but the staff was very nice. Ordered 15 meals for a class I was teaching. They complained about having to fill this $170.00 order, didn't mark any of the burgers, skimpy on the usually abundant salty fries. Food is way too expensive for what you get. It was not clear that the cheeseburger was actually a double which I never would have ordered. The fries are outrageously greasy and obscenely too many are served. The Cajun fries are just extra salty. The burger is a total mess to eat. The bun doesn't hold up to the ingredients inside. It always amazes me how chain restaurants differ from location to location. Loved my first visit to Five Guys in Schaumburg so much that I was there on the first day they opened near work in Joliet. So of course, I was expecting the same positive experience here, closer to home. Ooops! You know you're in trouble when the free peanuts are the best thing on the menu...... The burger was so greasy I could barely eat it and ditto for the fries. In fact, I threw some of it away and was still a little queasy for the rest of the evening. I'll give the Downers Grove location one more shot, but after having found the ultimate Smashburger in Elmhurst and the healthiest RevBurger in Carol Stream, I'm thinking I really don't need Five Guys for a burger fix anymore. read more

Boring. Nothing new about the concept or the burger. Five guys, meatheads, that burger joint. All the same. $10 bland burgers. Even Wendys is better, agree with previous poster. Here's the plan, go to the store and buy two pounds of 93% ground beef, one package of kaiser rolls, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. About $16 bucks. The bun has changed! Bun is now a dry sponge. The amount of fries has decreased. Whatever has changed in the process of growth of FIVE GUYS chain in general has once again hurt quality. Food does not travel well...they now use wax coated cup that results in limp greasy fries in less than 8 minute ride home. On my last visit, store was mostly empty, 2 customers asked for burgers to be remade. I have always encountered very friendly and upbeat workers at every single location. They no longer seem to promote potato source as much as they did when they were new to Chicago area. This chain is becoming another McDonald's but at triple the cost. read more

I came for a veggie burger and Cajun fries. I noted the manager doing quickfire interviews on about 3 guys during my visit. I sat close to them because I like low seating by the window. He did not let these interviewers get a word in unless yes or no answers. I heard him speak a lot about teamwork and being proud of working there. He also got up to take a personal phone call. When the last interviewer got up, he looked confused but a smug look. Definitely someone you want to hire right? Lol. So weird. Also, As a manager you should walk what you talk and when there is me and only one other customer in the vicinity when you're done, you simply check in on customers, as any restaurant usually does. That's what you do when you're confident and proud of the business you manage. My food had a possible hair but I was not sure to say something as I would've interrupted the manager's speech during his interview. Cajun fries came out decent. I am overall only coming back here if I have to but there are many other places around, so idk. read more

I am a Five Guys fan and happy they opened this location. Of the upscale burger places that recently opened in the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn area, this is my favorite. The staff is always so friendly and the food is great. I like that they have an open kitchen and you can watch your food being cooked. I am pretty fussy about fries and if I'm going to spend the calories eating them they have to be perfect--served very hot, not overcooked, not undercooked. I think this place may be my favorite burger place out there. Sure, it's fast food, so it's got to be greasy, tasteless cardboard, right? Not so with Five Guys, as it feels like it's not a chain, and the food says it too. Classic burger, salty, delightful fries, and a very friendly staff as well as a very inviting atmosphere(it reminds me of the classic diner) makes my favorite burger place.
