Like a really, really, really good hamburger. Truthfully, I don't eat hamburgers a lot, except for the occasional turkey burger. But I had a real deal beef hamburger last night and it was absolutely wonderful !! The dining room was pretty crowded and we saw a lot of families with young kiddies there -no doubt the result of their menu (burgers, dogs, fries and shakes), free peanuts, and family friendly pricing structure. If you want a hamburger at Five Guys, be aware that you have a lot of hamburgers to choose from. Their menu boasts a Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Bacon Burger, Bacon Cheeseburger, Little Hamburger, Little Cheeseburger, Little Bacon Burger, or Little Bacon Cheeseburger. Both of us went for the Little Hamburger, but if you think it was a teeny tiny White Castle sized of a slider, you'd be wrong. At $6.39 it was a pretty good-sized burger and tasted great - fresh and juicy and just freaking perfect! A cool thing about Five Guys is that you can pile on a ton of free toppings, like Mayo, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Ketchup, Mustard, Relish, Onions, Jalapeño Peppers, Green Peppers, Bar-B-Que Sauce, Hot Sauce, and A1 Sauce. We split a small order of their store made fresh cut fries for $4.19 and neither of us felt cheated, their small order is very generous. They have one of those fancy Coke freestyle machines which are always fun to play with, but $2.49 for a Coke Zero Vanilla gave me buyer's remorse. Just a few improvement opportunities we noticed - my wife's burger wasn't what she ordered, apparently her custom burger was tossed into someone else's bag, and when she unwrapped hers the mistake was discovered. They replaced it with no questions asked and said we could keep the one given to us in error. In a high-volume place like this, accidents definitely will happen and it was nice to see how painlessly they addressed it. I really liked the music on their sound system, but OMG was it loud - much too loud. Tone it down a few cranks, please? Anyway, we had a very pleasant experience at Five Guys. My family and I went to 5 Guys looking for a quick, easy, and delicious meal. We all left satisfied, however there were some things about our meal that we were not pleased with. I myself enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich with pickles. The flavor was all there, but the cheese was not completely melted and the grilled cheese wasn't exactly "warm". Another member of my family ordered a cheeseburger and they thought it was well cooked, had good flavor, but the bun was a little soggy. The fries were soft, and lacked flavor. The good news-- the shake was PERFECT! Overall the service was attentive and good, the seating arrangements were perfect, but the food was just ok. I come here when I want to treat myself or if having a stressful work day I love coming here and having a little bacon cheeseburger with fries and a strawberry milkshake. Usually they're off by some bacon or one ingredient.... Used the app - it said my 2 burgers and fries would be ready at 5:47. I arrived at 5:48. My burgers hadn't even been set up yet and were 3-4 receipts behind being set up. I waited 30 minutes in store for my takeout order. When I got home, I found that they couldn't have gotten my order more wrong. I had ordered a hamburger, L,T, ketchup and relish. I got home to a bacon cheeseburger with green pepper, lettuce and jalapeños. Seriously. So I call the place to complain and get put on hold for a manager. For 12 minutes. Hung up and called back. Got their voicemail, but alas it the voicemail box was full. So done with the disorganized set up here as well as the lack of quality control. I called again and was able to place my order . Not my first excursion into the ground meat mecca known as Five Guys, but the first by myself, where I could actually sit and critique without worrying about making conversation. First of all, the appearance...it is white, clean, and open. You don't feel like you have to avoid touching the walls as you traverse to the ordering area. Second, the menu. Someone wiser than I oce said, do a few things, but do them well. Five Guys' menu is burgers, dogs, a couple sandwiches...and fries. that's basically it. The fun comes when you try to decide which, among the 59 or so no-extra-charge toppings you want on your urger. I ama man of simple tastes...I had a bacon cheeeburger with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, and A-1 sauce - one of my personal favorites. I also ordered a "regular" order of fries and a soda. I got to a table and helped myself to the complimentary cold hors doeuvres (in-the-shell peanuts!) Then to the soda machine...one of those marvelous electronic ones that allow you to make what ever flavor you wnt. This time I chose Diet Coke with Raspberry. I wasn't halfway through the peanuts when they called my number. I took the bag back and began to unload all the steamy hot goodness. The "regular" fries were enough for three people, and cooked to absolute perfection. The urger was also hot, and juicy, not greasy at all...and you can taste each topping individually, and as a whole. The highlight for me was the fries, however. It's a wonder how they can turn a profit giving over a pound of fries out like that! The staff was very engaged, always yelling out the number of patties for an oder...or calling out the number of people coming thrugh the door. They really seemed extroverted, in a very nice way. Yes, Five Guys is a Chain (thunder rumbles) but it is a well-run chain, that prides itself on its product, its staff, and its community. Are there better burgers? Comparing this to In & Out, this place has the better burger. It kind of reminds me of a butter burger from Culvers. So tasty and you can feel the burger go straight to your arteries. The Cajun fries are always a plus when you are eating a five guys burger. The spice is perfect - not too much and not too little. At this location, they have one of those cool coke machines that you have a ton of choices of sodas. I always want to try some new soda that I normally don't buy. I travel quite a bit and I always try to visit Five Guys if there's one in the area. This Five Guys might be my very favorite out of 50+ locations that I've visited. They have one of cool "all the choices" soda machines; the bathrooms are always clean; and the staff has always been very efficient and very nice. I end up in West Hartford several times a year and generally make sure that I manage to stop here. The outdoor tables are comfortable and a great way to grab a little sunshine with your burger. One of the better fast casual places to get a burger and fries. Their menu is basically burgers and hot dogs. You get to choose any of the couple dozen toppings that are available. I order the bacon cheeseburger (which is actually a double patty), grilled onions, lettuce, jalapenos and ketchup. The burger was cooked perfect. The toppings were plentiful and the cheese was melted throughout. As a side note, the fry portions are huge. A large fry order was easily enough for two people. The first time I came here, I found 2 beef patties in my regular hamburger. At first I thought it was a mistake. Who needs 2 beef patties in a burger? Isn't it a bit excessive? Also, doesn't it make more sense to cook one large thicker patty? Then again, I'm at that age where I don't grow anymore so one beef patty is good enough for me. For teenagers and athletes, the double beef patties make sense. Anyway, I come here often for takeout when I'm too lazy to make lunch on weekends. It's conveniently located near Whole Foods so I can get grocery shopping done too. I normally order the Little Hamburger (one beef patty) with lettuce, onion, and tomato with small fries and it all costs about $7. The fries can get soggy if left in the bag too long, but they're still good. Another tip: if you take-out, don't place the bag directly on the car seat because the bottom of the bag gets really greasy. The people are generally friendly; the service can be spotty. Once, they completely forgot to put lettuce in my husband's burger. There are peanuts to snack on while you wait and the tables inside are clean enough. read more

If you value your time and actually getting your food, never come here. I ordered my food at 8:30 PM on Uber eats coming back from Avon thinking I would pick up on the way back to West Hartford. Had I known what was going to happen, I would have probably settled with walking over to Ocho Cafe. I had an ETA of 8:55, waited outside and told the runner I had an order pending. I then waited patiently for another 10 minutes as it was a Friday night and would expect them to be a little busy. After another 5 minutes or so I went inside to confirm with the manager the order was received to which he looked me straight in the eye and said they're working on it. I then went outside and waited patiently for another 15 minutes giving them the benefit of the doubt, while others were getting their food. Another 10 minutes roll by and I actually get a notification on my app that the food is ready (it's about 9:30 now). I see the runner again and show him on my phone that it says my order is ready...he says okay just a second and proceeds to keep running food. I wait another 10 minutes like any person with a great amount of patience would wait and go back inside to ask the manager if there's an issue (it's now 9:45 PM). He asks me for my name again, which I give and tell him it says my orders ready, to which he simply shrugs his shoulders, gestures to the line cooks and says we don't have it....I calmy ask him what can be done about this and his response essentially being they're too busy that's about it....needless to say, I'll never go back here again and hopefully this will save someone else almost 2 hours of their life and a hungry stomach. read more

This burger is amazing! The prices are great! It does come with two patties and plenty of toppings of your choice. Sadly the French fries are cooked with peanut oil and I'm allergic to peanuts, but I do agree with others as the burger is very tasty. The place was pretty clean as well. Food quality is pretty bad even just off the first sight. Not too appetizing. You can almost taste the hormones and everything else that makes you feel like a balloon after eating this beef. Stopped by the other day and ordered a bacon cheese burger. For over $13 with tax I expect more. I expect a burger to be hot! It was slightly above room temperature, I'd call it warm at best. The cold American cheese, which by the way is the only cheese they offer, which isn't really cheese to begin with, was just place on the warmish burger so it didn't even melt, at all. Nothing wrong with the bacon. Obviously, they don't cook these burgers to order. They must just sit in a warming box and they take em out and pop them on the bun. Really just no better than McDonald's or Burger King. But, for over $13? I could go across the street to another establishment (don't want to say which one because it may seem I'm really just promoting them) and for a dollar more I can get a freshly cooked burger served to me by a friendly waiter. There are many burger options out there, but sometimes all you need is five guys. If you haven't tried them, they are worth a visit to come to your own opinion. Disclaimer: I'm a strict vegetarian. I can't eat the burgers or even the veggie option veggie sandwich because their buns have eggs in them. But if I want fries, this is the only restaurant I know of where I can get fries that are uncontaminated with meat products, because the only food they put in the fryers are potatoes and peanut oil. I find the fries often are over-salted. But fries that aren't cooked in the same oil as fish and chicken and who-knows-what are worth the visit for me. read more

I finally had a dose of Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Food was excellent and prepared quickly though there was a long line. The fries were freshly cut and there was even a blackboard indicating the potato type used in the fries. They reminded me of the ones you get at the local fair and there was malt vinegar to drench them with. The meal was sort of expensive for fast food; a little burger, a little fries, and a soft drink will cost $9, but still cheaper than Max's Burger, Red Robin, or the Counter.
